20 odd years ago I DJ'ed in a castle. Everyone was dressed up in medieval gear. I was playing some house music and it wasn't really starting that well. My mate had told me to bring some Abba, Boney M and the like because the crowd liked that. People were asking for stuff like that right off the bat. About 20 minutes in I just stuck on Dancing Queen. Everyone dancing. After that I played only house (this was late 90s so things like Needin U and the like). No one cared after that that I played house. The strangest sight was seeing people dancing on tables looking like Henry VIII to Paul Johnson's Get Get Down. None of this was possible without the magic of Abba.
thats fair people in charge subscribed to being in debt for a piece of paper and feel others should as well even though the reality is the job is something someone without the paper could do and in some cases better then the ones who do have it.

I interviewed the keyboard man for an Abba tribute band a few years back. This fellow was himself no slouch at the ivories, yet he spoke of how challenging it was to learn their material. Kudos to anyone who can play it!

Much of that is thanks to sound engineer Michel B. Tretow. He worked intimately with Björn and Benny to create their sound, and mixed most of their tracks. Tretow was a real old-school studio wizard and polyglott. Insanely knowledgeable and talented.

Funny thing about Abba is most people have no idea how many hits they actually released. They sold a TON of records in the 70s and early 80s and don't really get respect because of their style. If they were less disco and more just mid tempo pop, they'd be mentioned with the greatest bands of all time more.

Hi there, Im a stage manager and I've worked with ABBA and many ABBA coverbands. There's a crazy thing called synths and keyboards and the person in charge of "the grand piano" sound is also playing the synth/keyboard which every one of their songs require (unless they have a live orchestra, which when I ran their shows it happened twice. I hope that helps.
I want to see a full concert of this gentleman doing songs that need this much piano or less... and he's up there the whole time, while the rest of the orchestra plays, doing different things to fill the time. 😆 Reading a book/news paper, cleaning house, cooking, working out, napping. 😂
