- The ending scene of Star Wars Episode V: Empire Strikes back [1980]. This film is widely regarded as the best and most iconic Star Wars film in the saga and with scenes like this it is no wonder why. The video has been rendered in 4K HD for your viewing pleasure.
I always cry at the end of this...the music is so powerful...but there is such a strong message of hope, getting up off the canvas, going again.
The musical score at the end of this film is epic!
It’s my personal favorite of all the Star Wars themes.
The Rebel Fleet theme The Empire Strikes Back is The Mightiest theme in the franchise
Épica sensacional demais
Moment at 1:37 represents the Heart and Soul of Star Wars. The Characters. We Cared. Where are these people going and what's going to happen to them? These were burning questions because producers, screenwriters, directors, and actors had taken care to instill character virtues and flaws we would recognize in ourselves and others. The audience had become emotionally invested.
I love how Lando and Luke immediately have a mutual respect for each other. Luke met him unexpectedly when he was saved.
That's how we knew Lando wasn't really a villain, just a guy who got himself in over his head. He never wanted anyone to get hurt, least of all for his friend to be frozen in carbonite. Thankfully he found the courage to get himself and his friends out of their plight.
@@billnumber3324 Lando was being threatened by VADER. Any man who says they can stand up to and refuse Vader is a damn liar. Lando played his cards right and made the most of a bad situation.
@@danieltobin4498 Even so, Lando was quite assertive towards Vader at least twice; true, he backed down both times, but even *those* gestures were impressive.
@@danieltobin4498 Lando is still part of the reason why both Han and Luke ended up in that situation.
@@Ragitsu um no he wasn't ?
Never get sick of seeing this film. Period!
@Club Soda, It’s more than a masterpiece. It’s a flawless masterpiece. There is really nothing wrong with it.
Lando pronounces Han weird,/and Luke pronounced Tatooine weird.
Nope. Me either. Since the first time I saw it in 1980.
Epitome of Hollywood magic and epic movie
Lol in my country no one says period. Other than its other meaning. But it’s like not a word here. We say full stop
The most operatic, beautiful one of them all. Sublime from start to finish. Star Wars will never, ever be this good again.
"The Alliance's fleet is limping along at a slow pace. Another visual similarity could be, like, a beat army heading back to its base in defeat. The music is mostly somber. Our heroes are licking their wounds, so to speak. The music is still slightly hopeful, but with a twinge of melancholy. Just perfect." - Plinkett
Mr. Plinkett the critic? 🤨

Yup.
In 1980, few films until then generated so much expectation for their outcome. Possibly none other before TESB. Imagine, after two movies our heroes were disintegrated and we had to wait 3 years! so that they meet again, and we see the end so dear. Nothing Disney did will top this masterpiece.
Nothing Disney put the Star Wars on it will even top "the black hole!!""
Rogue ONE i think gets a bit close
Such beautiful music, and by some distance the best Star Wars movie
RIP Carrie Fisher
AMAZING FILM,THE BEST OF ALL STAR WARS
Yes! This and Revenge of The Sith are basically tied for best Star Wars movie in my opinion
Definitely one of the bests in general.
... and one of the best films ever!
Closely followed by Star Wars (A New Hope) but yes Empire is the best
Ya, indeed.
One of the great Hollywood endings. Magic.
This is how defeated we all feel about ending 2020
This is the best ending, close second could be the ending scenes of LOTR Fellowship of the Ring too.
Everyone: The nightmares, they’re all finally over.
2021: Hello there.
We all feel? Define "we"

How about NOW?
I'm not sure what the current canon says about this scene, but a lot of the older expanded material interpreted the galaxy in the distance as meaning the rebels were beaten so bad in the movie they were forced to retreat outside the galaxy itself, and I think that interpretation really captures the low point the movie ended on, even while showing that the fight isn't over because they're still alive.
Is it a galaxy?
My personal favorite Star Wars film. Excellent storytelling, character development, and of course special effects. Great filmmaker (Irvin Kershner) taking over the directing duties from George Lucas.
Lucas was still the man in the high chair for this one though, like for all his 6 movies
@@nickolas18769No he wasn't at all. It's been shown over the years how little he actually had to do with it. He was often standing in a corner moping while others were working on it and making it great. He also argued against almost every great scene in the originals.
The reason why this came to light was because of the disastrous shocking prequels and special editions that HE made later.
@@jonathanliddane4144 Y'all have made this entire mental gymnastics mythos to pretend the creator of Star Wars didn't make Star Wars lol. And it's all just about whining about those movies you didn't like.
@@nickolas18769 You are literally denying reality. Educate yourself before coping for everyone to see
@@KurasakiBleachigo1 Bruh chill get your head out of 2010 😂😂
Ah yes, The Empire Strikes Back is one of my absolute favorite sci-fi films, it is the second best Star Wars film along with Star Wars 1977, and The Empire Strikes Back had stellar direction by Irvin Kershner. The Empire Strikes Back was the sci-fi film that came out after Star Trek: The Motion Picture and Disney's The Black Hole in May 1980, the cliffhanger ending of The Empire Strikes Back was satisfying, and I also love both Star Trek: The Motion Picture and Disney's The Black Hole from 1979. The Empire Strikes Back had an excellent John Williams music score, Star Trek: The Motion Picture and The Black Hole both had brilliant music scores by Jerry Goldsmith and John Barry, and Star Trek: The Motion Picture along with The Black Hole with Robert Forster are both the most underappreciated sci-fi films of all time.
Watched this on release and at its finale the entire audience stood clapped and cheered until the credits finished.
The Greatest StarWars Score John Williams ever Recorded..!
Without him, flush the trilogy
Without Empire Strikes Back, flush the franchise.
This video ended just when Williams was getting started.
Luke looked so adorable in the thumbnail
Great film. Perfect ending
Yeah, and quite meaningful, too. It's about thought they've lost, but hope remains and fight another day.
The best of the best.
Empire is the absolute sci-fi GOAT.
In my opinion Star Wars V is the best of all the films in the series
Still gives me goosebumps!
The last 10 minutes or so of "Empire" is the best part of the original trilogy, and therefore obviously better than the entire prequel and sequel trilogies put together, doubled and squared. It's amazing. It burned onto my memory when I first saw it on TV at the age of about eight, then when I got hold of a VHS in the mid-1990s I watched the last act on repeat. Just magical.
And this final scene... I love "Jedi", but if the entire series had ended here, it would have been a magnificent end.
Empire could be the only movie of any franchise where the sequel was the best film of them all.
@@sadeaton I suppose Aliens and Terminator 2 are the two obvious candidates. I tend to discount T2 from this debate as I see it more as a remake of The Terminator than a genuine sequel, but that's just me. It's pleasing that Empire has gradually got the recognition it deserves over the last few decades - it took a while, but people got there in the end.
@@robicenco1and dark knight
It would have been a terrible ending. This ending only works because of jedi
Cinematic perfection
I was knocking on the door of being 5 years old when I saw this in the theater. Near the end of the movie, I looked at my dad and said something along the lines of 'it can't end like this. Luke lost'!!!!.
To Those of You who are criticizing the Cliffhanger Ending of "Spider-Man ATSV" just watch this film or better yet the ending scene of this and understand that people in 1980 who saw this probably thought the same thing too. sure, that Across the Spider-Verse's Cliffhanger ending was too quick than Empire Strikes Back, but it sets up the finale in a totally masterful way, just like how this one did in 1980.
…and Star Wars never got better than that
Well, no. Revenge of the Sith is nearly there.
The prequels exist
@@Lucas_Sanjara You just proved his point
Luke's hand was severed at the wrist but 2-1B actually cut half of his forearm to accommodate the mechanisms.
As great and popular as the sequel trilogy was, this is a perfect ending to a perfect film, it was no doubt as awe inspiring and shocking to audiences in 1980/81 as those today, certainly almost as impact as the ending to Close Encounters of the Third Kind, after all the trials and failures our heroes have gone through, the audiences discovers that they are not out of the game just yet and are safe and sound for now.
The sequel trilogy wasnt popular and great 💀💀💀💀 it sucked
Who in the world thinks the sequel trilogy was either great or popular? What did I just read?
Perfect.
The Rebels should have put the We Brake For Nobody bumper sticker on that ship.
Pedazo de película...histórica...

Me the only one caring that not only is Lando flying Han’s ship but he also stole his clothes
Brain from family Guy really cares about it... He will tell you himself
Tied with The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring as the greatest cinematic cliffhanger of all time.

Why is Lando wearing Han's clothes?
To get the audience used to the idea of Lando being the new Han archetype if Harrison Ford refused to come back for the sequel.
@lewstherintelamon244 Did it work?
@@stephenbyrne2170 As Harrison Ford did in reality come back for Return of the Jedi, there's really no way to know how the audience would have reacted had he not.
