100% correct... i don't understand the obsession with high iso either... when I started my professional career as a newspaper photographer 40 years ago... 1600 asa or iso :-) was max... i honestly believe it's something for TH-camrs to talk about and nothing else... good video!
Yeah, I agree but you can't beat very clear photos and video and ISO4000 on Lumix S5II/S5IIx. It makes life so much easier a lot of times. Thank you for watching!
If you use the right lens, you don't face real low light problems,as long as you can see the object .This is my experience with the G9. The mark 2 ,is much more capable, so there shouldn't be any low light issues in most cases. Can not wait to buy the mark2.
Thank you for a very comprehensive video. Very helpful.I am convinced now to replace my G9 with the new mark2.I think that you have not mentioned the 100 mega pixels hand held option. Great feature in my opinion.
great review! Got me excited again for m43. I wish lumix would release a smaller variant of this in a premium body, GX8 style. Do you sell your luts yet btw?
Can't wait for the next GH camera ! I can't have any limitations on my main camera ( like on recording time and lack of hdmi output setting) . I have many amazing m43 primes that can't wait to be driven by a good AF (oly 1.8/75 or leica 1.4/25 for example)
Thanks! Just got back into the MFT system again and looking forward to this one. It's expensive for a MFT camera but has a ton of features. Will rent one first I think
Actually, Pav, that's NOT why it's called Micro Four Thirds. "Four thirds" refers to its sensor size, meaning 1.33" sensor. The 4:3 aspect ratio is actually a convenient coincidence. "Micro" refers to the flange distance as opposed to the "four thirds" DSLR frange distance. Hope that clears it up for you.
I have seen reviews that point out that this camera can take quite a long time to boot up or turn on. Did you find this to be the case ? Also when trying to acquire a moving bird it will ' search ' before the camera locks on to the subject when in continues focus mode. Yes - no ? Thank you. Because of your vid I will consider getting the kit Leica kit lens if I chose this camera - depending on firmware up dates. I have the FZ2500 & the G9 camera. Ray from Sacramento, Cal.
I’ve currently got one on hire. Can’t help you with birds, but re: boot up times - the first boot of the day takes a while (about 5 seconds), but the subsequent boots are quicker at about one second. It’s like even if you turn it off, it’s more asleep than off. It’s running the latest firmware 2.1. For comparison my OM-1.2 takes c.1.8 seconds at all times, and my X-H2 is steady at c1.5 seconds. What I will say is that in my very limited testing, the battery life seems poor.
I enjoyed your review tremendously, and tomorrow I’m going to download all of those photos you generously posted. Thank you very much. I look forward to more G9 II content.
I downloaded those files and using DXO Pure Raw. Those ISO 12,800 photos looked terrific. Except for film-nerds, most of the public would have no idea those were "bad" photos. Cameras have become incredible.@@PavSZ
Like most of my purchases I'm going to wait until these have been out for a while and get one second hand. I'm holding on to my 25mm and 45mm 1.8's for when I return to m43 in my old age.
Thank you for the great review!!! I have a question: ssd recording is only possible when I use dummy battery? What if I use regular battery inside the camera. Cannot use external ssd at all or the time gets way shorter than in case of recording on internal SD card? Or what? Thank you in advance!!
You can use SSD with normal battery. I don't think the recording time will be shorter than if recording onto SD card. When testing recording onto SSD, the camera was generating far less heat, probably using a little bit less battery as well because of that
Thx for this great review, I have a G9 first edition and would love to have an II as well, but I bought a Fuji XT4 a few months earlier, should I have known that this was coming out never would have done that.
Yeah great video & photo, but it has a HUGE overheating issue, Canon R6 overheating looks amateurish in comparison, and IBIS, well I think Fuji did not understand the point of it, IBIS should reduce shaking to a video not add to it... handheld half of my shots look like I'm a junkie in dire need of stuff. @@PavSZ
some formats are not available to record onto SSD when powering the camera from the battery. It needs to be powered from the main via the dummy battery adapter to unlock all formats
1:50 You would think that's right, but it's not. The "Four Thirds" has nothing to do with aspect ratio of the sensor. Wikipedia has the correct explanation: -- The name of the system stems from the size of the image sensor used in the cameras, which is commonly referred to as a 4/3" type or 4/3 type sensor. The common inch-based sizing system is derived from vacuum image-sensing video camera tubes, which are now obsolete. The imaging area of a Four Thirds sensor is equal to that of a video camera tube of 4/3 inch diameter. --

PAV, it’s the opposite. The current s5ii body does feel smaller and cheaper than the original G9. They knew the sales were going to be very low and they wanted to keep the cost down. They even removed the lock button on the mode wheel and decided to go without a top LCD panel instead of making it up to the competitors top tier models. It’s a pity, because G9 was a great camera and deserved a proper continuation.

I am happy it feels smaller than the original G9 and I never ever used the top LCD panel either. This is the perfect continuation. The original G9 was a photo/video beast and G9 ii pushes it even further finally with great PDAF.
A lot of users like the S5-II body. It's designed as a small, more stills orientated camera and it's a great idea to use it as a large, more stills oriented body for MFT. A new body that looks more like the old one from the G9 would have approximately the same size and the camera would be more expensive. Also I'm sure the designers did a lot of research about what features people are using in the G9. I'm sure that is the reason they dropped the top LCD.
I can't see the point of MFT anymore especially for photography , the S5ii is the same size and FF, sure if you shoot long telephoto you save some weight with MFT, but apart from that... nope.
what about if you have been using MFT system for awhile and you have a collection of lenses, love the look of them and you are used to the format? It's just a personal preference. If I had no FF cameras right now and was just starting out, I'd seriously consider this.
