Like I mentioned in the video, my release schedule for the time being is probably going to be more sporadic for the near future, so be sure to subscribe if you wanna be on top of anything that comes out, or go to Patreon for an even further heads up: patreon.com/kaiafterkai
Thank you for supporting the show and making this video! This series is full of amazing character development, and I’m having the time of my life voicing Senpai! Having read ahead, I’m desperately hoping we get a S3!
The greatest romcom manga of them all! it started as hardcore bullying. But its the wholesomest thing i have ever read. We are at Chapter 122 rn, they are so in love with eachother that i can feel in the air. Senpai grow sooo much, the community refers ro him as chad-pai. Hayase finally accepted his feelings towards him. This and Kaguya-sama is the best in the genre.
Don't know if I've seen enough if the genre to definitively call it one of the best, but Nagatoro is certainly one of my favourites, as is Kaguya-sama.
From reddit :) Nagatoro is one of my favourite romcom series. At first, I checked out the manga simply because I saw Nagatoro's character design and wanted to know more. I could have easily forgotten about it early on, seeing as it seemed to just be about her bullying him. As a victim of bullying in school, it gave me mixed feelings, I felt weird reading it. But early on in the story, she apologises and asks Senpai why he isn't getting mad at her. That small act of humanity got me genuinely curious as to what direction it was going to go. Those small moments where there is a break in her facade kept me going. I wasn't fully on board until we got our first look of Nagatoro being genuinely flustered. From that point on I understood what was happening and I've kept up with the series ever since. I love Senpai's character development. Even though she took a sledgehammer to it at the start, it's great to see his confidence slowly grow because of his interactions with her. The supporting cast is great aswell, literally everyone is fighting to get these two together. Once you get past the harsh start, there is a genuinely wholesome story here.
I love those small moments too, they really go a long way of endering her. And yeah, seeing Senpai's confidence grow and grow has been fun as well. Excited to see the rest of S2 and their further progression!
Thank you for the video, I appreciate someone explaining why Nagatoro is more than a lot of people assume on the onset. Good job (love the manga panels edits also).
It's always interesting to see how different people have their own winding paths they take towards the point where they come to truly enjoy a story. Your voice is ridiculously enjoyable to listen to, and your script is fun and I really felt like I came to understand where you are with Nagatoro and how you got there. I remember someone linking me the original image gallery for the series a very long time ago, and thinking it wasn't for me--cut to a couple years later and the author publishes it as a full fledged manga. What started as me reading out of morbid curiosity over time became an experience of genuine fun as I watched the characters grow and the romance progress... this is a fun manga for sure. Thanks for the fun video, good luck with your Uni, and cheers!
Admittedly, i had the same preconceptions about Nagataro. Was genuinely surprised when i found the story was just more than the MC falling in love with his bully who any normal person would avoid like the plauge.
Nagatoro does not experience the same kind of grow? Are we looking at the same story?. The Nagatoro that we met was just giving up in judo, bored out of her mind with cool boys, she was concerned with her own expectations of judo and puberty. Now she's facing Orihara in a tournament to feel worthy of a kiss.
I believe I started reading right about when ch10 came out. My friend told me to read it, and I'm sure he started reading it because of r/manga. He insisted that it got less mean-spirited after a few chapters, so I read it, and I'm glad I did.
Lotta Rom-Coms gotta compete on increasingly insane premise hooks (remember Mysterious Heroine X and spit or Sundome...just period). But again, I definitely agree that the entire genre really does show it's soul in just how good the romance proves to be mutually (if not equally) beneficial. Good chemistry is still very much appreciated, but the core can shine through, in spite of it's weird fetishy nature (or perhaps BECAUSE of it's kinks) that it does still give an honest and vulnerable room to grown for the characters involved. Also just reminded a lot of plenty of vanilla and dramatic smut that still knows how to tell a good romance between two leads, so even if they try to scrub it out for public consumption, "sexuality" shouldn't be considered separate from "platonic romance"
This kinda hits the nail on the head on why I kept reading too. *Something* was there, and its honestly refreshing to see I wasn't alone in that regard
@@KaiAfterKai I will also say Nagatoro's development, while not as drastic as Senpai's, is smth I love. Seeing her go from a bully into someone more considerate, compassionate and open about her feelings is something I loved seeing. The two of them miraculously share a bond and its honestly surprising just how much chemistry they have and how their "weaknesses" (Senpai's softer side and Nagatoro's abraisive side) counteract each other to make the other a better person
What's going to be a surprise is at some point, I have this feeling that we're going to get a flashback of all of their relationship progression, but we'll finally see that she had fallen for him a long time ago
yeh literally what initially drew me to the manga was just me seeking out "femdom-esque manga that's not straight up hentail" - although I'm more here to look at the submissive guys acting all cute and flustered while coming to terms with their own perception of masculinity, but sadly (and unsurprisingly) it's alot easier to strike gold if you search for female-centric tags when it comes to this kind of stuff [sighs]

Man I dunno what it is it’s romcoms starting off with weird plots but becoming genuinely amazing

Talk about a surprise; thank you for your fantastic job as Senpai! Glad you enjoyed the video, and yes, also hoping for a season 3!

Indeed. Guess some series just suprise you with their hidden depths.

Bare in mind, I'm basing this video off the first season of the anime. I might have read 80 chapters at one point, but I barely remember any of it ^^;
I already love the title. 😁
Something about it just felt genuinely human.
It's been a long and strange journey indeed ^^;

Honestly the latest chapter I read just has me feeling like the story should already be done
Also ashamed that I'm up to date on the manga smh 😔
There literally is only one or two chapters left now
Idk if it's brought up in the video

Me too, glad to see I wasn't alone on this weird journey of mine.

Wait shit I think I am into it fuck I'm a weirdo
Oh no we wore the same stock footage to the TH-cam party
How embarrassing
😳
