I bought a PS2 slim a few years ago and I still have it here working perfectly, just gave it a cleaning yesterday and it looks good as new. I tried out Rachet and Clank a few months ago and got pretty far but ended up dropping it, after watching this video I feel like going back and finishing it.

i've been having a ps2 spring myself. a 30001 with the network adaptor and the 40gb hdd from ffxi loaded up with games played using freemcboot and opl. the load times are so nice from the hdd.
