Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart v1.727.0.0 Hotfix
Patch Notes
Resolved visual issues with characters occurring on certain GPUs, including AMD Vega based models.
Improved the visual quality of vegetation in ray-traced shadows and ray-traced reflections.
Implemented a fix to make the Texture Filtering option work as intended.
While it would still ruin the pacing of the scenes with the change in dimensions, they could make it so he continues falling until the level loads. Basically making this hidden loading screen adjustable in its length
Thats pretty much what they did. Only the background is frozen so it doesn't look as good
Experimenting with creative loading solutions is actually really, really fun + effective. It depends of course on the scope of your game [how much resources it hoards] but most games now can easily be 100% devoid of loading screens with a little ingenuity. For example in Skyrim: load the player's immediate environment in the main menu, if the player is afk load the proximity locations, make a visual transition when entering a cave to mask a load event, load lower res textures first to expedite loading, largely imperceptible, etc.
They were comparing PS4 and PS5 regarding the instant loading rift jumping segments. I've seen tons of comments stating "Sony lied!" because the game doesn't instantly crash without Sony's fast SSD. It is a compromised experience if you have to sit and wait for noticeable loading right in the middle of an action sequence. You can play it that way, but I wouldn't want to.
@@Nick930 reminds me what they did with Spyro back in the day where going through gates it looked like he was gliding to the next area. Although he wasnt moving, it was just camera trickery
In other words, you're saying re-design the game back to old designs, ok, I believe that is the point of the PS5, a different way to design these new games
Great job on the Direct Comparison. Man, this is why I would love to see you cover Ratchet & Clank in a future documentary one day, because i think it is a great idea if you take a look at Insomniac Games story following other PlayStation Studios you covered in your previous documentaries like Naughty Dog & Santa Monica Studio. This what I would like to suggest but I know it’s going to be a long time before you can do that because since you have other ideas for future documentaries, but I can’t wait to see what you have planned for your future documentaries.
I can’t wait to see what you have next for gaming in the future.
I wanna say, I got the game recently, and have not experienced the low resolution textures and stuff, I think they fixed those bugs pretty fast, good on them. I would like a new comparison video :)
I would also like to see a new video ^
I’m playing this on a 3060 TI and I’m very impressed with it. The game does get intense during the action set moments but I had no slow downs on my SSD especially during the first rift moment.
what settings are you using? mines struggling a bit but i have a ryzen 5 3600x idk if thats why seems pretty cpu heavy
@@sosahaus5999I’m running everything on medium settings with DLSS set to performance. Only using textures on high. Game is very intense especially during the fights
@@sosahaus5999I'm hoping my threadripper 3960x can handle this
3060 Ti gang!
@@sosahaus5999The answer is right there, you're using AMD products. they dont really run good in certain games.
Those issues with textures were noted in Digital Foundry's first impressions video as well. Definitely a bug and hopefully something that is fixed quickly. Though for their experience it wasn't nearly as frequent as it was for you which is interesting.
They just released a hotfix to fix texture filtering. Might even be the fix already
@@LosAngeles234 Hopefully! That didn't look like a texture filtering issue to me though.
Do you know if it has been fixed by now @@LosAngeles234
Hi,
What type of SSD do you have ? The games loads best with NVMe 1.3 or NVMe 1.4 drives (with over 3000 MB/s read speeds)
You may also check with the Xbox Game Bar that Microsoft DirectStorage is supported on your system (it should according to your specs)
With a good NVMe SSD, there should be no "hanging in the air loading" issue :)
I'm running a Ryzen 7800X3D, 32Gb Ram and a RTX4090 with a SN850X 2TB Gen 4 SSD. I encountered around a 1s lag in the showcase scene where you fly/fall though many dimensions. It is almost perfect... besides the crashes
😂
This game was so much fun! The visuals stunned 😮
One of the more detailed comparisons I've seen of this game.
Great job!
Nice that you got a review code for this video and despite that didn't compromise on mentioning the issues!
I get review codes for almost every game i cover nowadays. But i often buy the games too because they only ever give out digital codes, and i prefer a physical collection
This remains one of my favorites! Hope they keep making them.
The game really is a technical showcase of the PS5's hardware. In fact, I remember seeing this a few years ago, it almost made me want to buy the console, I was so impressed. Hopefully Nixxes can iron out the bugs on the PC version. I'll wait until the game has been patched some more before I buy.
When you do get it I recommend getting a PS5 controller as the game is also an exceptional showcase of the controller's features, notably the haptic vibrations and triggers which honestly add alot to the experience to the point I'd say it's worth getting it for this game and any future PS PC ports.
The PS5 controller works with PCs out of the box and are supported by the game natively or via Steam Inputs. The only catch is it must be used via wired cable. The good news is the cable is a standard USB to Type C connection that most smartphone chargers use.
Is controller worth getting for rachet alone? After the performance with ray tracing enabled for a 3080, I was almost alittle upset I didn't just buy a PS5 2 years ago 😢
playing it on pc rn and im amazed how it loads in new environments so quickly with the rifts
the loading is still impressive even with stutters
@@justifythewinner It's the main reason I got my PS5 (both the controller and Rift Apart).
Given the PlayStation ports going forward are PS5 games you'll get some use out of the controller for those.
It's ultimately subjective but if I didn't have a PS5 I'd at least have the controller for my PC. It's one those "you don't realise how a difference a feature makes until you use it" things. I thought haptic vibrations and triggers was a gimmick but the vibrations are very granular to the point it can make it feel like a wave of water is follow through the controller and the triggers can have differing resistances for effects like resisting at the half-pull so you can hold a chargeshot before fully pulling for the shot itself or adding micro-resistances as you fire an automatic gatling gun to mimic some of recoil felt through the trigger.
It's also just a great alternative to an Xbox controller for games that don't use the PlayStation specific features.
great video, really helps me nerd out
iv noticed it has some strange performance issues. sometimes when i load the game it works fine, but other times its a stutter mess. have to keep reloading it until it fixes
I'm playing on a Gen4 SSD (same as PS5) and it lags while shifting through dimensions. Using a 4090, i9-12900K, 23gb RAM
5:16 Only way I found to fix the missing reflections is by using SSAO. Any other form of ambient occlusion glitches screen space reflections.
I was waiting for your comparison, like I said before, you're the best doing this!
Wonder if this game will utilize the fancy "RTX I/O" feature to get around the loading problem, seems that is not the case still
I think there is a patch already out, that addresses the RT reflections.
No seeing an update on my end. Same issues
@@Nick930 Well, ther raytraced grass shadows now look like they should.
And there has been an update.
@@Nick930 Just downloaded a patch a couple minutes ago.
Did you Test the Game with ah normal SSD oder NVME SSD 4.0? where to travel between dimensions?
There's a surprisingly large difference in the audio mix with the PC sounding much "chunkier" with more bass.
PC version feels sabotaged to make ps5 more appealing to purchase 🤣
No the PS5 version was made specifically FOR the PS5, so all of the coding and stuff was made to suit the consoles custom hardware. To even get it to work on PC as good as it is now is pretty impressive.
LMAO no it's really not as impressive as you think. Any PC could run it with no problems @@NoCluYT
The coping is insane in this comment 😆
@@deepabyss2816 How I'm coping when I'm spitting the facts and facts alone lol
how ? the game is for console anyway pc is not game machine
I want to ask. Am I the only one, who when playing this game on PC, after longer sessions like (3-4h) would get an error in the weapon shop where it would just not let me preview the weapon (it was fixed after I relaunched it) but often I had to even restart the whole PC because when quitting the game the sound from the game kept on running after the game was closed.
I platinumed this game last week, what a technical and graphical masterpiece! I recommend everyone has PC with good SSD try this game. Now I understand why it is not released on PS4.
I could be wrong but the PC version’s audio seems to have a wider dynamic range especially noticeable in the bass. Whether or not it’s better is up to the individual but I think it’s a slight upgrade in that regard
I noticed this when the balloons got shot.
I think on Playstation spatial audio might be enabled vs stereo on PC.
So you lose the processed 3D sound and effects might seem more "raw" on PC, not sure though.
The issue is that we don't know if that is exactly how PS5 sounds because we don't have the 3D audio.
From what we heard the PC version has more bass. Some can find it annoying while others will like it and find it more cinema like.
I wonder how the game runs installed on that old school AMD RAMDISK. Where it uses your DDR as a hard drive. Curious if that's faster than PCIe 4.0 NVMe drives. I think so. It may run those transition scenes as well as PS5.
The 10900K does not support Gen4 SSDs which do hit double the raw read speeds and allow way more bandwidth for resizable bar.
i had the same probelm of tectures rending in low-resolution on diablo 4...the solution was to the upgrade the DRAM from 8GB to 32GB...therefore I'd assume if you upgraded from 32GB to 64GB the textures would load in just fine in this game
Fantastic video as always
I recall hearing that Windows 10 would have Direct Storage as well, but it wouldn't be as efficient as Direct Storage on Windows 11. Have you tested with Windows 11 to see if things load faster overall?
Not yet. I have a win 11 pc with better specs in the office but still need to figure out how to set it up without disrupting work
There’s this bug on PC when using the first gun it should rattle the R2 trigger, but it doesn’t on PC
They must have fixed those issues because I beat the game today on PC and I didn’t experience any of the issues mentioned. The transition between dimensions was clean and fluid and all that.
Played on maxed out settings, DLSS set to quality, frame generator.
16 GB RAM, Ryzen 7 3700X, RTX 4070
Its possible the stuttering was because o installed it on a secondary SSD instead of an m.2 primary. I cant remember now
I have an WD BLÄCK SN850X NVMe 7300 SSD installed on my PC and the gane stutters between dimensions similar to your video. Moved the game to my inferior Windows C Kingston NVMe M.2 3,500 SSD and now the game travels smoothly between dimensions. So weird.
Maybe it's been improved over time, but your loading times within rifts amaze me. I ran the game on an i5 4460 with 16GB RAM and GTX 1660, off a RAID 0 array of spinning 2TB 7200 RPM drives and a small SSD cache that caches small reads (that's where the harddrives struggle) and it's about as smooth as on the PS5 in this video. Most of the settings (no RTX card) are maxed out, iirc I just had the textures set to high to prevent running out of VRAM which caused insane framedrops whenever that occurred.
Thats the biggest load of BS I've read all day.
What resolution? Average FPS? FSR settings?
@@PloopChute 1080p of course on a 1080p card, though that doesn't really affect how smooth those transitions are. But if you're after framerate mostly 50-60 fps (vsync limited). And in the first part of the game occasional dips to the mid 30's due to the CPU strain of all the NPC's around the city.
Odd enough on a CPU strained system smashing a huge amount of boxes with bolts has no noticeable effect on framerate. That really surprised me 😂
I played this day one on PS5 as a HUGE Ratchet and Clank fan. It blew my mind in almost every way. The fact that PC gamers who don't have a PS5 can enjoy this game is something that I hope breathes even more support into the already amazing series.
I played it in the 30FPS fidelity mode since I played all other Ratchet and Clank games in 30 frames.
my only complaints about the game are that I wish it were longer, and I wish the trophies were harder and had higher difficulty trophies as well.
thanks bro :) as a pc gamer i appreciate the niceness and that youre not toxic maybe we can all get along quite well
It won't. The game flopped hard on PC as usual. 8.7k peak players lmao.
@@user-bz9fw9bo4uMost people are probably waiting for sales. A lot of people already played it on PS5 (I did not since I do not have a PS5) as well, so there is less double-dipping.
@ChudDin exactly, we all have a love of games and what platform we use is personal preference. I'm a PC gamer as well so I see the pros to both sides. Have fun!
Rare to see a console player not bash us for their exclusives. You are a good one.
@@user-bz9fw9bo4u I didn’t even know this was being ported till last night. Bought it immediately and no one else I know knew about it either.
I thought the surround sound in this game on pc was pretty terrible I had my pc set up to 5.1 and everything just sounds mushed together there's no proper sound separation.
8:47 You can see very clear ghosting on her feet while you were saying there was no ghosting lol
I am from Brazil. I like watch so much your videos of comparation, are very complete and well made.
I am running on 980evo and only had one stutter while going through a rift.
The first time i played the game i had a game breaking bug that i needed the start the game from the beginning again, and that the logo at the start lagged, but they have fixed that one, but i dont know if they fixed that game breaking bug tough
So with a 3070ti 3900X nvme ssd and 32GB of ram will it run at 60fps 4K. I just need to know so i will get the ps5 version otherwise
What people don't realise is it's the same game just imported to PC!
@nick930 what SSD do you have? a gen 3 nvme or just a 2.5 ssd?
I'm slightly disappointed you didn't mention the unique hardware integration with the Dualsense... You mentioned the exceptional FPS of the PC version, that would've been a good place to add it.
Idk the loading is instant for me on PC just like on PC and I dont even have a high end SSD. It is Gen 4 tho but my CPU is Gen 4 only so im not getting the full speed yet loading between rifts is instant. Read speed spikes anywhere between 1000 MB/s and 1600 MB/s. Did they fix this in the last few days or like idk its nothing like in this video.
How quickly does anyone think it will go on sale? I’m pretty willing to pick it up full price , but if it goes on sale and has all the bugs worked out, that sounds like a fantastic deal?
My best guess would be sometime around september, maybe $10-15 off. Maybe 50% off for the holidays later.
@@Nick930 might as well pick it up!
no stutter or texture loading issues on 7900xtx
What model of your ssd to run this game?
i havent really seen that much graphical issues except for when i was using the rhyno some models weren't fully loaded in but i was spamming it anyway so i didnt really care that much and overall the game was a solid 10/10 for me gameplay wise .graphical was more like a 9/10, it looked great but tiny texture bugs showed up sometimes.
What kind of SSD did you use?
you're talking about difference in speed in SSD's. Whart are you running? NVME or SATA? or worst case sccenario an ancient HDD.
Obviously not hdd. It was a sata SSD. Never once has a sata ssd been too slow for something like this. Future games will be installed on my nvme only to avoid this going forward.
Perfectly demonstrates why insomniac said this game would "not be possible" on ps4, simply because of their heavy reliance on the new nvme ssd feature of the ps5
I wonder if an M.2 is quick enough for the portal loading, has anyone tested this out?
Shouldve mentioned what SSD you were using and its read speed.
any ssd would do. From what ive seen there's only 1-2 second difference from sata to nvme
What you say about Ratchets fur must be a bug on your console cause hair gets wet on ps5 too.
what kind of TV you playing on
I had the game at day 1 and it couldn even go to 40fps with mid settings. I use a rtx2080... . Was this a known performance issue without patches they gave later or is it my system somehow?
Oh buddy. the 2080 is an ancient graphics card. You'd be better off with a 3060 if you can afford it. I would recommend the 3090 but they are ridiculously expensive.
Problem is it's tricky to optimise for PC from a console because there are 100's of hardware variations. So eventually the PC version will look real nice but it's lots of code and resources to optimise for PC but I am glad it's come to PC.
Some lighting setups are bugged or glitching right now, I'll wait for fix
3:14 nvme or sata ssd? a cheap pci gen3 nvme should do the job
i dindt notice any of the texture loading probs on my PC. But its a port so you can't expect it to be perfect
@03:06 i had no such issues with my machine, that whole sequence of play was smooth, im using a m.2 samsung 980 pro, 5900x,4090 combo with 32 gig @4000mhz ram, so this is not a general pc problem and yes im playing @4k native no upscaling everything ultra
As i mention later in the video, its a combination of ram, ssd type, and cpu.
The 5900x is faster than the i9 10900kf if I remember correctly. And your ram is a faster speed too which helps. This was also on a normal sdd rather than an m.2
@@Nick930 a sata ssd? thats like 500 vs 7000mbps here, no wonder it lagged
@@Nick930well there ya go . No wonder it wasn’t working as intended. Your being hard bottlenecked by your sata drive .
Rift Apart is the most impressive piece of visual art I have ever seen. I know that aesthetics are only part of the whole - but of variable contribution. There are glorified tech demos like Crysis 3 which inspire no one - and then there is Rift Apart, and it truly is a rift apart.
That’s subjective, crysis 3 is still beautiful to this day imo it has aged well compared to other games from that gen.
yes we have learned we cannot judge a good game on graphics alone but when graphics are done correctly it totally adds to the game. it helps with great gameplay with rift apart, its just so short, which for me tells me it was a tech demo, but a fantastic one, and maybe a chance for insomniac to fiddle around on the ps5 perhaps refining an engine whilst making an early game?
On the topic of Crysis 3, we need a Crysis 4. How about we make a Go Fund Me page for Crytek and donate them money so that they can get started making the game
Crysis 3 was quality...Using bad talking points from like 6 years ago. What a tool.
@@BillyBob_McSanchez Crysis 4 has been announced for more than a year already
When I played and 100% the game on PS5 back then, I always thought how amazing it would be to run this game with 100+FPS maxed out. Now I can say its absolutely amazing. With my 4090 and 13900k I can run this game without upscaling (using DLAA) in 3440x1440 +HDR maxed out and with max RT at 100+FPS. Mostly its around 130-144. Using an M.2 SSD ofc. If I want some extra frames I can always turn on Frame Generation but there is no need. Definitely doing the 100% on PC again now, thats for sure. It looks and plays so much better than on PS5. Other developers should take note. This is how you optimize a game.
i really dont believe you that you are running every setting maxed out at 4k with ray-tracing on max. without dlss at all. What is your gpu utilization like? Surely you're not getting above 100fps. Also what are your 1% lows?

Why don’t use Windows 11 on your PC setup?
Inconsistent sound volume on pc version Many sounds in the game play at a very inconsistent volume. For example the burst pistol sound and environmental destruction sound one second playing much louder than when moving an inch and trying it again. None of the in-game audio options can fix this.
PC audio seems like it's not playing some sounds at the volumes it should. hmmmm.... weird.
I don't understand... Why is the audio night and day better on PC? It's just audio, right? Like, it doesn't render like graphics?
I think PCs have better drivers in general for stuff like audio, especially if you have an excellent motherboard like from ASUS where the functionality works out of the box.

I’d love to see you show your PC specs compared to the PS5 before the comparison starts. Good video, I just think there’s a few “asterisks” considering the PC version you didn’t talk about, like RT for all AMD cards is currently disabled.
only i notice a difference in audio quality ?
Just considering the VAST amount of different PC configurations that need to be accounted for it’s not surprising the PC platform has so many issues as so many pc builds need to be tested compared to a single PS5 version.
idk what kinda issues the PC has playing at above 60fps gave my eyes relief from looking at the left side of my screen, also if you have a faster PC why not use that one? kinda feels like its thry to show the PC in a bad light

Sandisk extreme sata III i think.
This is honestly so beautiful :,)
Would be really neat to get a release of Into The Nexus (Rift Apart's prequel) on PC, later down the line. A version that doesn't lag at the slightest inconvenience 😂
It's still very much a beautiful game, and i'm sure that if they do decide to port over and release the older games, that they'd be akin to the HD versions of the original trilogy we got on PS3 back in the day.
Am sorry, just freaking out that a Ratchet & Clank game is ACTUALLY on PC, lmao.
I wouldn't call Into The Nexus a prequel, it just hints at the Dimensionator being fixed.
If you're going to use that logic then Tools of Destruction should also be ported because it introduces the Dimensionator to the series.
@PlebNC Oh, no, i worded that badly, my bad. I'm aware it's not fully a prequel, i was just made aware where it its in the timeline by a very rude spoiler. Though the story is half-connected, i do understand what you mean. :)
Well, i'd honestly shit my pants if we even got just one port of the older games :o But yes, Tools would be a hell of an experience on PC.

But since I'm not a Graphics Geek like most PC Gamers, so as long as the computer runs most games fine without any issues, I won't be upgrading the Graphics Card anytime soon.
Which games can also lag on some laptops, at least mine, WHEN THE BATTERY IS LOW, NOT WHEN HIGH, SOMETIMES, LITERALLY JUST SOMETIMES.
To give PS5 more fighting chance performance wise, connected it to a 120Hz TV with VRR supporter.
Make sure you have HDMI2.1 certified cable.
At Performance RT performance should occasionally go over 100fps,but on averages 75-90.
At 4K it will go waaaay beyond 30.
It should always be above 40 , but more than sometimes go past 60 if I am not mistaken.
Fighting chance my friend the ps5 player is already finished that game past 2 years and the PC player feels like a virgin about the experience we already know a year year before you taste...
No it won't lol.
Huge lies in this. Have a 120hz tv and the 4k modes NEVER go WAY BEYOND 30. They mgith go 2-3 fps higher but that's barely even noticeable. Half the time the console struggles to do the 4k modes which is disappointing and makes you want to say why did they bother...
But my 4k computer can go to 60fps (dont have the 120hz monitor) with ease and no issues and looks 20x better as well. But of course it did cost double that a ps5 does but still the ps5 feels like a really low end PC to me.
I've had no loading issues with ADATA SU650.
The loading times and textures are an issue with PC in general. I THINK the reason is the PC version can't optimize for all the different possible hardware combinations and will have to spend time compiling shaders and textures on new environment load the first time. Consoles dont have this issue since it's computed once... By the devs... On almost identical hardware as the end user. This is currently the biggest advantage consoles have over PC.
I've played for 10 hours so far and I'm at 36% completed (i am a potato after all 😅). I've only experienced a single crash to desktop early in the game. Main bug is that most of the weapon preview videos wont load in the vendor. Even with my 6GB/s .nvme ssd, it also lags in those transitions. Hopefully they'll fix it
i don't know if they can, unless direct storage has an update that make sit faster. I swear Nixxes said Direct Storage 1.2 was the ONLY reason they could do a port
I sold my 4080 and only play ps5 again. just happened to start Rachet and Clank. it looks so good and is so much fun. and that on a €500 console!
You need a nvme drive to get the rift sequence like PS5.
The PS5 itself has read/write speeds on bar with a gen 4 nvme drive.
There’s simply no nvme fast enough to compete with the ps5 that’s why the pc struggles
@@chasethechosenone8478 well you definitely own one lol.
Not true, you can get drives like the 990 pro that beat it and you've got gen 5 drives now which are nearly double the speed.
Gen 3 Vs Gen 4 makes nearly no difference in the rift sequence, you're talking tenths of a second.
The reason for the hitching is just the port to pc which will improve with patches, PS5 running a version of Linux as OS helps.
There was no texture loading problems when I played it on pc but ray tracing wasn't available
Its possible you are using a card from before the "20 series" nvidia gpu line. Those older cards dont support ray tracing.
If not, then maybe its a bug you're experiencing?
@@Nick930 I'm using a 6750XT tho I think they said ray tracing wasn't going to be available on amd cards for some reason, probably because it's bugged or has performance issues.
Got it from my nephew and I absolutely love the game and have been playing it to 💯. But I definitely enjoyed the photo mode. But now I’m playing the games I personally have been anticipating on 2023. Really hope the pc will get updates on frame and textures. Really hope insomniacgames will making a new ratchet and clank game. (Please insomniac bring Talwyn to the next adventure)
The same textures issue happens in Metro exodus enhanced Edition played in Geforce Now..
Lol I didn't get any lag during the rift scene...sounds like a skill issue.

They just released a patch to fix the texture issues. go figure!
Wow. It’s insane how comparable or better some of these games appear on the PS5 when compared to high-end PCs. Seems performance is the only thing that truly sets them apart. Won’t be long until platform choice is completely dependent on user preference.
cope
Ofcourse it looks comparable if the most you get is the option to let the game look the same as it looks on the PS5.
If they went out of their way to add even more enhanced graphics settings for high-end PC's the story would be way different.
Look at games like Cyberpunk 2077 for instance. Maxed out path tracing on an RTX 4090 blows the PS5 version of the game out of the water. They could've just made how it looks on the PS5 "max" settings for PC and people like you would be placing that exact comment.
In reality this game runs 100+ FPS on a RTX 4090 which means the RTX 4090 could've handled way better looking graphics settings than the PS5 ever could.
And sir, ofcourse it looks better on the PS5 if the PC version is bugged. I would like to see a PS5 side by side of CP2077 path tracing with any RTX 40 series pc. 100+ FPS on one side while 1 FPS on the other. But somehow everything's so comparable now. Soon you'll be enjoying ultra realistic unreal engine 5 games on sub 30 fps, 1440p on a PS5, while the PS5 Pro (you'll have to purchase) can run it natively on 4K 30 FPS.

@@DBTHEPLUGcan you tell me the price of 4090 please?
why would you assume that more RAM would enhance your performance??
Amazing, just two games i wanted a PS5 for, This since loved the PS3 ones and Returnal, Thanks, Sony.
OMG this is a dream. Never would I thought I'd see the day. That is an instant buy.
the graphical glitches are caused by nvidia gpus as the original gpu on the ps5 is RDNA2
