    “Without much effort” *shakes violently for a minute strait*

  • @neeko7878
    @neeko7878 2 ปีที่แล้ว +69

    I counted… 11 seconds of shaking before the ratchet came out… Mmmmm not sure that is normal use at all. Can’t recall the last time I even shook a screwdriver or multitool. If it were tighter… people would complain about that. I feel the pros out weigh the cons. I would own Taiwan made tools any day. Many instances of being better than US made tools and waaay cheaper.

      Honestly mate, it really depends on where you used it and there's lots of cases where you might just pick up the tool by the ratchet or accidentally fall over well it's in your hand or drop it on the ground and the thing will come out. "Shaking" is just there to show that it's too loose.

    I bought one a few months ago, and then didn’t use it much. I recently needed to reattach an 88 key weighted keyboard to its pedestal - which involved laying on my back and holding the driver up over my head, in the dark, to reinstall a bunch of screws. I happened to have that driver a few steps away - so into the Charge it went, and those screws went in very quickly despite my awkward position. At that moment, I was glad I bought it.

    With the Leatherman ratchet and bit kit I have stopped carrying a 6-1 screwdriver and a ton of bits and nut drivers. I EDC a Surge along with the DeWalt double end 1/4" sockets and one driver shaft, that give me 4 sockets 7/16-1/4 along with 40 plus bits I carry a separate flashlight. This set I use at work on a large federal complex daily and as a volunteer fireman. I have used it on several calls one being a dog that under sun room hiding next to the AC duct, I was able to disassemble the floor register and the million or so 1/4 hex sheet metal screws and the hose clamp around the flex duct. The ratchet made it a lot easier in tight spaces. While not for everyone it yeah is about $10.00 more then I would have liked to have paid but it has paid for it self in the 3 months I have carried it. A lot of people dis on the Leatherman flat bits try carrying 40 single bits on yourself daily.

    Thanks for sharing, here is my take on that:
    I'm one of those guys who use their Leatherman Surge a lot. While I thought it was pricey in the beginning, after 2 years of using it I can tell you I totally changed my mind. The practicality it offers and the time you save while you're working on something are priceless. I'm also planning to get the 711L Ratchet for very similar reasons.
    Concerning the "Side tool left in the drawer": Spending 30$ on an accessory that vastly improves the performance a multi-tool makes as much sense as spending 150+$ on a multi-tool under the condition you actually use it. If you leave the multi-tool in your drawer, that means you don't use it. If you don't use, why the hell did you get it and spend a "huge" amount of money on it in the first place? Same thing applies to this accessory. Many do consider a multi-tool so sort of a mere "back up" tool, but to professional and non-professionals that's THE TOOL that can make a huge difference (From making you life way easier to allowing to survive). This is exactly why, given that you actually NEED a multi-tool, you shouldn't be buying a cheap 5-25$ piece of junk, but get the 90-150+ $ and its accessories. You may not need to use it for a very long time, but when you'll need it, your being cheap will come at a cost (Either a broken tool or a tool that can't do what you need it to do.
    P.s.: Do you think 2 years of warranty is little to nothing? Put that into perspective: You can waste it in 10 secs while abusing it. Now tell me if that is still "too litle to you".

    I love it. I use it often and it works great. I have the surge and it's never came out while using it. I have the extention tool and the bit kit to and I can really extend the driver when I have those hard to reach spots. Carrying my leatherman with the accessories saves a lot of space in my edc carry vs a ratchet set.

  • @FuglyStick
    @FuglyStick 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    I've got a Surge with an extension, and I just can't justify buying this. As nice as having the Leatherman and a bit kit are, they're not a replacement for the actual full size, dedicated tool if you're going to be doing something for any amount of time.

I just dropped a G-d awful amount of the new ARC and was considering getting the leatherman ratcheting extension. But I don’t like the fact that it can fall out and it is expensive. Worse it has only a 3 year warranty. And the final blow made in Taiwan. Instead I went with the 711 2 in 1 hex bit & socket extension for $$9 bucks and change. It doesn’t ratchet but it doesn’t cost an arm & a leg.

    Looks like a nice little tool but just like other leatherman tools it's pretty spendy.
    I had a wave but never carried it because of the weight. I switched to the tiny Knipex cobra, a little multi bit screwdriver and a good pocket knife. I can't do everything I can do with a leatherman but I seldom used anything but the pliers, screwdriver and knife on my leatherman anyway. The tools I have now outperform it by far at the tasks they were designed for. If you haven't tried the Knipex pliers give them a try, they are awesome.

    A 2 year warranty is pretty solid, because all other accessories because the high end leather sheath do not have any warranty.

    This has been out for quite some time and I still refuse to purchase a Taiwan made $30 ratchet bit driver.
    I'll buy 3 if LM ever decide to make it in USA

    Hmm...so I have the Skeletool CX. Like it, lots. Bought the sheath with pocket and the extra bit card so now I'm back up to where maybe I should just use my Wave+ or get a new Surge or Signal since I've gone back to a belt carry. The Skeletool is/was just ok to EDC alone in my pocket. Sometimes it was a little heavy so it gets tossed into the truck console. So if I need it I can grab from there....But wait, if I'm back at the truck the I can just grab the EXACT tool I need from the toolbox. Decisions! Thanks for the video! (Yes, I agree on the $30 bucks being a little steep)

    "flick it" slams it on the table so it flies out. Hehe
    Tnx for the upload. I am considering this kind of ad-on for my charge tti combined with a set of bits other than the bits that came with the tool.. Or, regular extension. I really like the solution, seems handy. But, im not sure how much i need it, at least when looking at price. Im not sure how much i would use it, maybe i use it often Vs getting dedicated tool, i guess leatherman could function fine as a rench on some things depending on strengt. Find it to pricy to just have it as backup. The years i used multitool, screwdriver is not a tool i use often. And, when i used it the bit has broken every time. Might add, screw has been oversized. Still, not sure how good quality is. Suspecting leatherman bits metal is hard, but just a tad brittle. So, i think perhaps a diy or knockoff is a better path. Time will tell.. How strong is the bit holder on a leatherman? Anyone blown the holder, or tested it to its limit? Tnx for replie. :)
    One thing i find stupid, leatherman should include bit that fits on the screws they use with tti. Not sure if you get it in dedicated set. It seems, leathermans idea is. You can fix allot of things with tti set, but screw you if you just wanna titen up the screw on a leatherman. Just a detail, not important nor do i care. But, i would include a bit that would fit the security torx leatherman use in a set or what comes with the charge tti. Have no idea what comes with other charge.

    Compared with the bit kit is a waste. If one can afford an expansive Leatherman probably will buy both.

    I had 2 Leathermans through the years and for the money that i spend didint perform well at all. The bits broke very easily , the ergos were not comfort . I purchsed a True Utility for 1/3 of the price , this is my EDC for 2 years now and i m a happy user. I wont spent a dollar for Leatherman any more.

    Maybe don't use it like a damn fleshlight 🤷‍♂️ You had to shake it relatively hard to get it to pop out of the wave. If it stays in the tool just fine under normal use, then it really isn't an issue. I do agree the price is a bit high, and would be more appealing around $20, but in the world we're in, everything is getting more expensive. You can't compare the price of something today to what it should have been 10 years ago. Overall, it's not a necessity, but can be a fairly valuable convenience.
