    Wanted to say thanks for the driveline work on my 2011, so glad to have it back to driving smoothly. Still watching for the video of the transfer case, really interested to see what went wrong inside of it.

    As far as checking the torque converter, you can eye ball across the face of the transmission case or put a straight edge across the bell housing and the torque converter snout should be behind the case. You should normally see half an inch to a inch clearance if you do the torque converter is all way.

    What is the difference between that 3.5 and a raptor 3.5

    • @skymaster9484
      @skymaster9484 ปีที่แล้ว

      My understanding is the 3.5 Raptor motor is a high-output engine with more horsepower I think its built stronger also like a racing engine.

    • @OnlyDigs
      @OnlyDigs ปีที่แล้ว

      They are mostly identical. Same block/heads/internal strength. Main differences are that the HO is actually lower compression at 10:1 vs the standard 3.5s 10.5:1, the exhaust manifolds are cast stainless vs cast iron, and the turbos use some different materials in the wheels. For the 18-20 trucks the turbos are identical in size, for 2017 the turbos are slightly smaller on the standard trucks. Most of the differences between the engine options aren’t even actually parts of the engine, such as true dual exhaust, higher output fuel pump, tuning, etc. The difference in power between the two is entirely due to the factory calibration of the ECU.

      me too, people don't understand simplicity is key...these engines have a lot of failure points on them. Neither my 2V v10 or 2V 5.4 have over 250K and haven't had this done. Sure, there are some that can last 200k + but the failure rates of the failure-prone areas are too high for me to ever own one. This era of trucks are getting to be some of the worst quality.

      I have have a 3.5 eco boost and have only had to change the turbos because one sprung an oil and coolant leak at 140k miles. Like anything else that is mass produced, they could or could not have issues. I beat the crap out of my truck and keep the fluids changed on schedule. Still running like a powerhouse with almost 200k. So keep yours and I’ll keep mine.

      My first truck was a 2001 f150 with the 5.4l 2v. It got 11-13mpg (7-8mpg towing), had 260hp and struggled to pull 5k trailers up grades at the speed limit
      My current truck is a 2019 f150 with the 3.5 ecoboost. It gets 18-21mpg (8-11mpg towing), has 375hp and pulls a 10k trailer at 70mph on a 7% grade with enough power to go 80+.
      The difference in power and efficiency is massive. IMO, it's worth the added complexity.

      While 200,000 is considered high mileage by many consumers it’s just getting broken in for me. With the amount of driving that I have to do I expect at least 500,000 miles relatively trouble free. Ecoboost technology does not fit my needs . Their reliability and durability has been too poor. A well taken care of 6.2 will easily give 500K miles of hard work without reliability issues. I’d much rather pay the extra price in fuel costs than to have it down and not running.

    What gives 6 years old and needs a new motor. Ford is really dropping the ball the 5.0 has a belt driven oil pump that will last the warranty out of that good luck a 8 hour repair on a good day out if your pocket if you did it before failure. Why the 5.0 and 5.4 3v used crank driven oil pumps never a failure why now a tried and true method kicked to the curb crazy. Ford your innovation on this mechanical failure will be the end of you.

    Oh the pain of watching you drag that engine crane around with those crappy cheap chinese wheels on it. They are awful. I invested in quality bearing wheels twice the size with rubber coating. What a difference. Makes the crane another inch or so higher, but that is no big deal.

      One day maybe, right now it works well and the hydraulic cylinder has been very reliable which others may fail. Part of the problem is the amount of work we are doing so the floors are not as clean as they could be so it drags.

    Here is a great concept, how about getting rid of the turbos and adding two more cylinders to the engine!

      I worked on the development of the ecoboost line of engines and people don't realize how much fuel they actually burn.....the 3.5 EB consumes more fuel than the 5.0 when it's under boost. Too many failure points also...I dont care how fast it is or how much they say it can tow, I'll never own one.

      @@PeeterPuncher you are correct sir. There’s still no replacement for displacement if you really work a truck. I suppose if you’re going to the grocery store and Home Depot for a sack of mulch it doesn’t matter as much.
