As far as suggestions for the next video: I think it would be cool to learn about the MIB corner in USF. Wasn't Jurassic Park originally set for that corner, and then there were other concepts that were suggested before MIB? It would be awesome to get some great details on Universal's thought process of that area from Swamp thing to MIB.

Don't get me wrong, IOA is still a good place, and some of the ideas were implemented quite well into their current state, but a world filled with Disney's rivals, especially WB, at Universal's Florida grounds would have enticed me much more than Adventureland if it took over the entirety of Disneyland.

Your coverage of the talks with Warner Bros was fascinating, but the convoluted history of these licenses could've been a self-contained video. (As Six Flags has the DC and Looney Toons licenses, I went down a Bugs Bunny hole to discover how Time Warner was even able to sell the license.) Some highlights:
    - Marriott's Great America, a two-chain park located in Illinois and California, was the original owner of the Looney Toons amusement park license.
    - Six Flags bought the Marriott's in Illinois in 1984, but NOT the one in California, which was odd since the Six Flags SOP was buying already-existing parks. They had gotten Magic Mountain in 1979 and, at the time, Marriott's was the only amusement park in all of Northern California, not counting the rinky-dink Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. (Six Flags would eventually buy Marine World-Marine World Africa USA-New Marine World Theme Park-Six Flags Marine World-Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in 2007, which Premier Parks was hired to run when it was just a zoo.) The California Great America was instead sold to the city of Santa Clara and Six Flags somehow ended up with the Looney Toons license.
    - Time Warner didn't enter the Six Flags picture until 1990 or so, when it started buying up Six Flags stock. It had a 50% stake in 1991 and 100% in 1993. The question here is why they did it. This was a period where media companies owning parks was all the rage. Paramount had just bought a bunch of parks. Universal Studios was expanding into Orlando. MGM had just teamed up with Disney for their own Studios park, though Disney's was a hot garbage rush job born from Michael Eisner stealing Universal's ideas and fast-tracking them in hopes that Universal would give up (there's another video for you!). Time Warner was merging and buying all kinds of companies, trying to keep up with the Evil Empire (Disney), so maybe this was a case of just keeping up with the Joneses.
    - Or maybe Time Warner was just interested in that Looney Toons license. As stated at the beginning of the video, Universal was already looking into a second Orlando park in 1991. They wouldn't have planned these elaborate Looney Toons and DC lands without talking to Time Warner first. Why waste all that time if the licenses weren't even available? This was the same year Time Warner started buying up Six Flags stock, so the timing seem very suspicious. Yes, Looney Toons characters were already all over the Six Flags parks, and Batman had just been introduced into several of them, so why would Time Warner want to throw all that away for one park in which they'd only have a single-digit percentage of the take? In 1993, Six Flags only had seven parks (I believe), so 8% of an Orlando park was easy money. Universal apparently only wanted the Batman and Superman franchises, so Six Flags would still have a stable of other superheroes to name rides after. And the success of Tiny Toon Adventures appeared to be leading Time Warner into a lucrative partnership with Steven Spielberg. Plucky Duck was coming in 1992 and Animaniacs in 1993, so all the Looney Toons attractions could just be rethemed to those characters that would be around forever! (Cough)
    '
    - Time Warner got out of the amusement park business shortly after this deal fell apart. In 1998, Premier bought Six Flags, only five years after Time Warner had bought it. Which gives a little more credence to the idea that Time Warner only bought the company to get that Looney Toons license. Six Flags was sold to Premier Parks for under $2 billion, which was chump change to Time Warner at the time.
We can't know who to blame, or even if we should. It would be great to have some of the most iconic cartoon characters of all time in Islands. Certainly Bugs and Company deserve better than what they are getting in the Six Flags parks, which is basically themeless flat rides. There are loads of Warner Bros characters - Bugs, Elmer, Daffy, Porky, Marvin, Tweety & Sylvester, Roadrunner & Wile E Coyote... - more deserving of quality attractions than Popeye or Dudley Do-Right. They're all more deserving than many of the characters over at the Disney parks, like Casey Jr, Gadget, Roger Rabbit, Monsters Inc, Cars, Remy, the Guardians of the Galaxy, the Incredibles, Aerosmith, whoever is currently featured in that horrific Disney Jr show... I'd even argue their importance over Alice in Wonderland, the Little Mermaid, Mr Toad, Frozen, Pinocchio, Peter Pan, etc... but at least those characters have long literary careers before being used to sell merchandise.
But what would we have lost? It looks like the Looney Toons land would have been mostly in Lost Continent's space, which means we would never have gotten Sindbad or Poseidon. DARN! While Poseidon's Fury had some great ideas, it never became a complete attraction, so maybe saving those ideas would've resulted in a better attraction down the road. But we also would've never gotten Dueling Dragons. Or all the theming in Lost Continent, which was the greatest theming in a theme park at that time. Moving even further into the future, what would've happened to Harry Potter? They certainly couldn't have taken over the Looney Toons land, or even put it into a park named Cartoon World. The obvious choice would've been to replace Jaws even earlier, which means both Harry Potter lands could've ended up in USF, meaning the Hogwarts Express would've been a motion simulator, if it existed at all. And there would certainly be no room for Hagrid's motorbikes. All the Harry Potter stuff being located in one park would not have been good for Cartoon World. The only "inexpensive" option would be to replace Toon Lagoon, which would mean getting rid of the only two water rides in the entire Resort AND a renaming of Cartoon World. Of course there was always the third gate...
The DC side would've probably been an improvement over the Marvel version in both theme and ride selection. Dr Doom and Storm Force Accelatron would certainly not be missed, and the Batman/Penguin coaster would've been thematically better than Hulk, and might have been a great alternative to Dueling Dragons. But can you imagine a world without the Spider-Man ride? As cool as the Superman version seems, it was still not what Spider-Man turned into. MAYBE it would have eventually morphed into a Superman version of what we ended up with, but there's also a very good chance that our first form of this ride system would've been the far-inferior Transformers version. Also, most of this land and part of Looney Toons would have taken up the space that turned into Jurassic Park. While the world could've lived without the River Adventure on the East Coast, this ended up being the most pleasant land in the park, due to its jungle theme. And dinosaurs are always a plus. Besides, Jurassic Park was being built in Hollywood as a stand-alone ride, so it probably would've ended up next to Back to the Future over at USF. Which means no room for the fantastic Camp Jurassic or for the upcoming coaster.
All things considered, I think Universal would've been far better off had they just ponied up the extra cash for Time Warner. When it opened, the three big coasters, the drop towers and the two flumes made Disney fans think of this as a park for teens. Furthermore, at the time Marvel characters weren't a selling point and the other cartoon characters were't big draws either. Due to this, and a bad marketing plan, the park performed poorly. Had Universal been able to advertise Batman, Superman and Bugs Bunny, Disneygoers would have been far more willing to try out the new park, which would've had way more family-friendly rides with these IPs. The other problem was its lack of attractions. The following year Universal added two flat rides to the park in an attempt to quell this line of thinking, but neither lived up to the theming surrounding them. The DC and Looney Toons lands not only would've brought more attractions to the lineup, but switching over to Jurassic Park and Lost Continent forced the Dr Seuss and Popeye lands to lose much-needed attractions. The Warner Bros lands also had shows planned, something this park still needs. Shows fill out a day better, and Cartoon World would've felt like a complete park from Day One. Then came 9/11, which only ensured IOA would remain in a holding pattern until it got the Harry Potter license. Had Cartoon World performed well upon opening, it would've weathered that recession better. With this park chugging along, and Hogsmeade lifting USF to great heights, chances are we'd already have the third gate, as Universal probably would've fast-tracked it so Diagon Alley could be its main selling point. WE COULD ALREADY BE RIDING UNIVERSAL MONSTERS RIDES!!! Sigh...

It’s almost done in Japan. But won’t be opening for a few months. No official word on an opening date has yet to be made. Nearly every detail of this land has been covered on the channel, including layouts for the rides, and a few videos about the interactive elements. A video for the future Donkey Kong ride will be made later, so stay tuned for that. You can see the most recent construction here: twitter.com/aliciastella/status/1265999653855735811?s=21

I think this was talked on another channel like 1 or 2 years ago, but is funny to see like a lot of this theming ideas became part of the Warner Bros Park in Madrid, Spain. THE DC area idea is VERY similar, with the same planned buildings and everything, except for the rides inside being different (turning them into coasters with cool queues instead of universal level dark rides). The Looney Tunes area had a similar concept, though instead of Tiny Toons theres a small mix of Hanna Baberbera and Cartoon Network in the entrance.
And of course, all this with sadly A LOT less budget, but some of the original concepts of the madrid park for this areas look even more similar to the Universal ideas (before Six Flags started to cut everything lol).
The Batman stuntshow at the lake also looks eerily similar to the stunt show that the madrid park had in its first years, about Lethal Weapon instead of Batman.

Almost ALL of the characters featured in Who Framed Roger Rabbit would have been together. This would have been awesome!
As we see in Who Framed Roger Rabbit, many characters from other animation studios live in Toontown. I feel bad that most of the non-Disney characters can't visit the Walt Disney World Resort. Why can't they? Don't all the citizens of Toontown love each other? :'(

Too bad about Cartoon World, but it's great to know that Dr. Seuss, Jay Ward, King Features, and the idea of a super hero land managed to make the final cut for Islands of Adventure. Even Comic Strip Lane ended up merging with Toon Lagoon, feeling like an unofficial main street for the Toon Lagoon.
Plus given that Comic Strip Lane, DC Comics, Dr. Seuss, and Toon Lagoon all started with stories, I'd say Cartoon World was destined to be Islands of Adventure sooner or later.

Awesome and insightful video. I wonder with the Universal new theme park would they make a try at this again, Knowing Six Flags pretty much is going bankrupt, And going to close a majority of there parks. I wonder if they are in discussion with Warner Brothers. I know they already have a deal with Nintendo, I know this theme park is going to supposedly have a whole lot of land so what else is Universal up to.

Crazy to think how this could have effected DC comics. DC is basically dead now, boy did they miss a MASSIVE marketing possibility. Man if only cause sf has a contract with WB and has done absolutely nothing with it but name there rides after them and make a section of the park but nothing like what Disney or universal would do with the que line and theme of the park if only I wish universal would try again to get the rights because Disney will want marvel soon at there parks so universal will have to change that side of the park but dc is making a comeback so Superman and Batman is huge market!

DC and Looney Tunes properties and Universal Monsters like some scrapped Toon Lagoon, Seuss Landing, and Jurassic Park attractions become fully realized and maybe Toon Lagoon can utilize the Nickelodeon Nicktoon properties and Universal’s own classic cartoon library!
