    I think the ms breaker would have gave you less chatter on the 316 with how much stickout you had on the bar, but long term if it didn't chatter bad enough to chip inserts the chatter is just a harmonic chipbreaker. titanium sounded perfect and im glad to see the world has moved beyond .05 max depth of cut, i know that was still a thing last time I ran Ti

      I wouldn't count on that. I wouldn't expect any other milling/turning toolmaker. It seems to be Kennametal exclusive for years.

      I'm sure many tooling brands are waiting for their contract with kennametal to end so they can capitalize on titans reach. Just a matter of how long the Kenna contract is for.

      Since Sandvik have bought mastercam, and CG tech (vericut), I could see this happening.

      @@PlinkingLePew same with his machines. At this point they probably pay him to use their tools/machines. Not that there is anything wrong with that. We get content, brands get exposure, Titan gets hardware.

    You guys should try out the high density alloy boring bars. You can stick out 10x bar diameter and not chatter. You will have to fine tune it but I know you guys are good.

    Great Video , that cutting speed is perfect on the Titanium . Its just back from the edge of chatter . Excellent chip control too . Are you roughing these out on both sides first to relieve the internal stresses in the material before setting them up later for the finishing cuts . It looks like there is a little internal stress in the part on the turned surface finish of the bore .

    At 600SFM how long does your insert last? My usual tooling for 316 I run at 300sfm.

    I know stainless can string up and cause nesting but how does titanium act when cutting? Like stainless and string up or more like aluminium chips?

      Titaninium is very tough, so chips do not break very easy, even with more feeding.
      It's nesting very often and can cause your tool cutting edges to break just by getting slapt from nesting chips.
      I'm using high pressure coolant system breaking the chips to avoid that.
      But that doesn't always work.

    Just our of curiosity are you doing .130 a side or .130 total so .065 a side? The machine I run programs per side not total cut which is why I ask.

      Generally speaking, DOC when spoken is radial, even if the machine receives the word-address as diametral. Like, I’ll still verbally say .1” DOC, and then program .2” when required.

      @@joelmacdonald6994 ok so he is actually taking .260 is what you are saying. I program my machine using the shop floor but would deffinitly not call myself a programmer.

      @@wendull811 at least on my area/region, a .13” DOC would be .26” diameter. But I’ve learned that different regions speak and program differently. I’m in western Canada, we type T_ M6, but I can spot someone from Ontario in a heartbeat as they type M6 T_. Just a dialect difference really.

      Cutting tungsten is not fun at all. I worked at a shop where were making tungsten counter weights for a robotic surgery company. Even the EXTREMLY simple geometry was hell on the tooling. Basically we just made the parts rounder and rounded the edges. The were two small drilled and tapped holes in the part. One one each end. We didn't dare tap them on the machine. We had the manual department do it as they had a better feel for how the process was going. We didn't want to scrap one because they were so nasty to work on. The manual guy would put small notches in the shank of the taps as he used them. This was his way of keeping track of how many parts he'd used the tap on. After 5 parts, so 10 holes total, the tap was junk. He always hated when those parts would come around.

      We know and use both systems. It is not our fault that we were taught both systems in school. We will never get away from the imperial system cause too many things have always been measured in it, in the states.

      I still struggle sometimes with converting between the two systems, but they both have their own benefits.
