Chavacano is not a language, it is a dialect. Our language is called Filipino 😊
Chavacano is still existing guys specially in Zamboanga, Isabela, lamitan and some part of Cotabato.

I didn't even know Chavacano existed until I started my Beginning Spanish class this fall semester. It's so cool! Like it's Spanish with some Tagalog words and has the Tagalog cadence and accent. I'm trying to get the hang of Tagalog and Spanish right now, so maybe Chavacano in the future?

Thanks for trying to speak atleast some chavacano words i know its hard to speak straight chavacano because philippines is such a multilingual country. I am a chavacano (from zamboanga city) and i have worked 5 years in manila before and 6 years now overseas but i can still talk chavacano atleast about 90% ( i know chavacano is a mixture of different languages and dialect but the chavacano (spanish creole) adopted and standardized certain words that are considered as legit chavacano words) such as in your vlog you said "pursue" in chavacano we can say that "pursige"

It's such an enchanting dialect, Chavacano! I hope someone out there (or if it's a project you think is worth doing) would create something like one season of episodes celebrating Chavacano through storytelling videos, vlogs, or podcasts. I'm not a speaker of the language but it would be great to learn and understand the experience through listening to something like what you have done in this video. More power!

Michael Santos chavacano is not an ancient language, that was an invented language dated back during spanish colonization.
Es parecido al español, pero la chica lo mezcla con el inglés..It's similar to Spanish, but the girl mixes it with English
Yes! It's kind mixed up already because I had to adopt 2 more different languages when I moved to Manila. And that's English and Tagalog :)
Chavacano is a creolle and you'll expect a creole language to be mixed, but because of the greater influences of Visaya/Cebuano in Mindanao and of Engligh and Tagalog/Filipino through media and education, the real Chavacano slowly mixes with more loanwords from these languages. Still many Zamboanguenios and the local government is trying to preserve it and enrich it through media, education, and in speech, songs, literature, as well as our Hispanic cultural influences. Some of us in Zamboanga even studies Spanish as second language, some tries to incorporate Spanish words and archaic Spanish words in modern Chavacano. We are doing it slowly, and I know in the future, we will be able to do it, because among all Filipinos, we are so proud of our Hispanic heritage. :)
I too myself am using and speaking Chavacano with a lot of loanwords, because the city is a cultural melting pot from Tagalogs, Visayan people, Muslim tribes, Malays, Indonesians, Indians, Chinese, and other foreigners. So, I need to speak in the modern version wherein they (my friends) will be able to understand me well. But through social media, and with my parents, I still try to speak in straight Chavacano as much as I could and even add Spanish words with it. I am also curious in Spanish language, so I always use the Google Translate for some word translations to know some word's Spanish equivalent in order to adapt it in Chavacano. I also really want to learn Spanish in the future.
Plus, if I'm not mistaken Tagalog has Spanish and English mixed in. Chavacano is as close as you can get to Spanish in Tagalog. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Oh my I found you again here.... I am formerly known as I am Successful (that's my previous account) who is from Zamboanga...... Why can't we all Chavacano speakers from all over the country (Cavite City...Ternate, Cavite.....and Zamboanga City) help each other to promote our dialects of the Chavacano language and revive those languages that are becoming endangered due to the influences of Tagalog, English, and Visayan languages. In that way we can also promote our culture and Hispanic-influenced language.

And hope to learn them too hehe ako naman I can speak Bisaya :) I noticed some words sa Chavacano are spanish kaya mukhang ibang language ang tunog, kahit dialect lang sya. Sa bisaya may mga spanish words din like "mercado = palengke". Sa video mo napansin ko may "alegre" same din yan sa bisaya may alegre din hehe
Chavacano gaya ng Tagalog, Cebuano, Waray, Hiligaynon, Kapampangan, Ilokoano, Bikolano ay isa ring wika o lenguaje ...... iisang wika lang po iyan, pero nahahati ang Chavacano sa iba't ibang dialects gaya ng Lenguaje de Bahra ng Ternate, Cavite...may Cavitenio ng Cavite City. (na unti-unti nang nawawala)...Chavacano de Zamboanga ng Zamboanga (na buhay na buhay pa rin).......Cotabatenio ng Cotabato City, Davaoenio, at Castellano Abakay ng Davao na kung baga extinct o dead languages na ata. So, Chavacano is a language, while Chavacano de Zamboanga is a dialect....linguistically speaking. :)

Chavacano in Zamboanga has different accents. Sa kanya ay medyo pang pueblo o pang lungsod, meron ding iba sa rural barangays at iba pang mga accents o tono ng Chavacano de Zamboanga. :) Taga-Zamboanga po ako.

too much English now. Chavacano is basically dead. Sounds more like Taglish with just a few Spanish words. It's not your fault though
nagiging ganyan na ang Chavacano ngayon at tama ka po. Taga Zamboanga po ako at tila unti-unti nang namamatay ang wika dahil sa impluwensiya ng Filipino aka Tagalog, Ingles, at Bisaya sa aming lungsod mula sa edukasyon, sa mga dayo at iba pa. Pero hindi naman sa "basically dead" ang Chavacani dahil unti-unti rin itong binubuhay, inaayos, at mas marami na rin ang gumagamit nito. In fact, mas buhay pa ang Chavacano sa Zamboanga City kaysa sa Cavite City at iba pang lugar sa Pilipinas na may Chavacano dati.... mas ika nga nag-survive pa siya sa lugar namin dahil ginagamit namin ang wika sa mga kanta, sayawin, media, telebisyon, govierno, escuela at kahit na sa calsada, calle, tienda y oto mas pa (pamilihan at iba pa)etc. Ako nga ay patuloy na nag-aaral, nagre-research, nagsasagawa ng personal na pag-aaral at comparative studies about sa iba't ibang Chavacano sa bansa at sa wikang Kastila. Kahit papaano ay tumutulong din ako para ma-promote ang wika at kultura ng aming lungsod. Sadyang lumalaganap na lang talaga ang Taglish, Englog, at malaking impluwensiya ng Ingles, Filipino o Tagalog at ng Bisaya sa Mindanao eh, kaya hindi na nagiging puro ang wika. :)

3 Zambonga is not on Luzon it is in Mindinao - Which is quite isolated and far...

Yes, our national language is Filipino which is just a formal and standardized version of Tagalog. Tagalog or Filipino is our national lingua franca or the language used by all people from various tribes for communication. It is used in government, education, and in formal and eve informal sector. It is taught in schools from elementary and even to college. That's why even Zamboanga is not on Luzon, the Tagalog language still influences the Chavacano language of Zamboanga, making Chavacani mixed with Tagalog. :) Yes, we are far and isolated from Luzon, but still, the Tagalog language through Filipino influences the language of the city of Zamboanga. :)
