I'm a Tausug but I know how to speak Chavacano. Zamboangenyo Chavacano to be specific.. I was born at Jolo but I started schooling at Zamboanga. The difference between Cavite and Zamboanga, when the chavacano dialect is concern, is that Zamboanga City really uses Chavacano every day. When you go to pueblo(Town proper), almost all can speak chavacano fluently and even the city officials would highly encourage all the people of zamboanga to speak chavacano. That's maybe why the chavacano in cavite is slowly dying out, which I think is a loss. Being a person who can understand and speak chavacano, I' am quite proud of it and I have grown to it. And I' am a proud that I can speak a language that some of the zamboangenyos speak in the old days.

@@vinzell725 because in year 1635, during the building of the Spanish fortress in Zamboanga, the military authorities decided to import labour from Luzon and the Visayas. Thus, the construction workforce eventually consisted of Spanish, MEXICAN and PERUVIAN soldiers, masons from Cavite (who comprised the majority), sacadas from Cebu and Iloilo, and those from the various local tribes of Zamboanga like the Samals and Subanons.

To bring back Spanish language as spoken ones in the country and as official language alongside English, the Article XIV, Section 6 of the 1987 constitution or the language policy, has to be amended by removing unfair designation of Tagalog as the basis of national language at the expense of others like Cebuano or Ilocano, make English and Spanish languages as official languages be used in government administration and public education purposes, and let regions to control their language policies, thus preserving regional languages.
After amending the language policy provision, to really revive Spanish, the Philippine government should reach agreements with Spanish and Latin American governments in sending Hispanophone professionals especially teachers to the Philippines to teach Spanish to Filipinos from all walks of life in public or private educational institutions and in exchange to that, the Philippines should send professionals to work in Latin America and Spain, so that if they return to the country, they can further teach Spanish to the people.
In order for Spanish language not be limited its usage in schools, Spanish and Latin American professionals should infiltrate entertainment and journalism industries, so that the spread of Spanish language would be continuous and become mainstream especially among masses through proliferation of Spanish TV and radio broadcasts, periodicals, tabloids, movies, and internet websites because through this, people would start to speak Spanish in daily basis and have their children be trained as native Spanish speakers.
If my recommendations were to be followed by the government, the Philippines would become 100% Spanish-speaking country like Mexico in 50 years after implementation. Of course, this is not our priority for now, but when this thing happen, Filipinos can have another edge to a wider oppurtunity!

It is unfair, we province people have to learn 3 languages while the ncr only 2. If spanish and English were the main languages and each region have their ethnic central languages. We will all have 3 languages to learn and will help the local languages live while retaining the language that were the proper lingua franca. I've been trying to learn spanish recently and it's a lot easier than english thanks to the deeper connection the local languages have with spanish.

'Tis sad that few people in Cavite these days speak the language. My maternal relatives speak Chavacano, and I do make an effort to learn the language more or less at my own pace. The situation with Chavacano also reminds me of the controversy with Irish usage being put by the wayside in favour of English in Ireland. Some felt this resulted in a loss of cultural identity, and it is the same thing with Chavacano.
