Worth pointing out that Holly used down strokes almost exclusively.
Yes, that's very likely on this song. Which is why that first strumming pattern sounds so good. For beginners, doing that many downs can be tricky from a speed perspective. If you can pull it off, do it!
Holly played it as recorded with a capo at the 5th fret,.........easier to play and remember the chords that way.
@john emeigh The capo was just after the fourth fret,...before the fifth,......the fifth fret becomes the nut at that point

Hey, Lauren. Do yo have a video about how to practice playing single notes in sync - like when playing a scale and minimizing a gap between two notes so that the transition sounds nice?
What you are talking about is playing legato. I don't have a video on that yet. Great suggestion.

Hi Lauren, I just love your teaching style. I'm a rank beginner and trying to learn basic chord changes. I find using the pick at this point is just too difficult. Should I even try strumming without one? BTW two friends who play have suggested I buy an inexpensive 3/4 size like the Yamaha JR 1. Would that help my short, arthritic fingers to get cleaner notes?
Keep working on it. But you can use your fingers.
@@LaurenBateman Thanks for the fast reply and encouragement. I just bought a Fender FA 15 steel string 3/4 acoustic guitar. It feels comfortable but I now wonder if I should have specified nylon string. Is either better for a beginner?

How long will it take a hearing Impaired to learn this song I can sing it really well. But I'd like to play it.
That's a good question. I think it will come down to the muscle memory in your hands more. Do the best you can. Go slow. Might be a few weeks, but it's worth it!

@@LaurenBateman FYI, I have learned about 5-6 songs with your videos. I’m 56 and started playing in May 2023.These apps and thing that advertise saying that you can’t learn from a TH-cam video are dead wrong.
Great, but just before the end of tuition, it would be helpfull to play it all the way through!! So annoying when you don't do this!! But thanks anyway!
Kevin, you're right. It is annoying when I play through songs and they get reported to TH-cam or sometimes blocked completely.
