Been learning from 4 different utubetests an you are definitely th better of them all at explaining how to move your fingers .... a child with incredible memory an super long fingers could do some of these things .. cos my kids has been trying an the finger length definitely play a factor 🤣🤣😁😁🤜🤛♥️🇮🇪☘
4 weeks playing 1 hour every night I'm now enjoying it.. an finding it a challenge an not a mission ... finger tips (3 of them) has hard skin on them already an dont bite them off either cos it will set you back a day r 2 practise ..... need to buy a guitar as iv been staying with my uncle as these 5 comin 6 weeks now an goin home shortly.. an I can safely say that I'm now giving him tips an notes an iv ordered him a good phone so he can use this (mobility) to carry with him to practise instead of a laptop iv learned more In 6 weeks than he has learned in alot of paid lessons... thanks for the help Lauren ♥️🇮🇪☘
Another 'quarantined' person using this time to learn! I've owned this guitar for 10 years and have yet to learn, lol! This is exactly what I needed! Thank you!
A lot of ppl are gonna learn so many new things while in quarantine that they never thought they would..and playing guitar for me is one of them..thanks Lauren!
i am 46 now... use to admire a guitar school in Sector 21 Chandigarh (29 yrs back when i was in class 12 ) at that time had a great desire to learn guitar...but time goes on and on...and now here i am....can't say thanks to Corona....using my son's guitar...and learning the chords...Uuuuu huuuu.. Stay safe..Stay Home..
At 50+, I'd been trying to learn chords in a group class for 7 months (before the "CV" words). I wasn't making progress so I quit the class, bought more books & practiced, watched various videos weekly & practiced, tried to memorize chords & practice but got no where. In less than 15 minutes w/you, I've learned to make 4 chords & transition between them. You made it sensible and enjoyable since I actually have success with your methods. Thank you very much!! You're an awesome teacher!
Lauren, I'm 72 years old, just purchased my 1st guitar 3 days ago and stumbled on your site after trying a number of "beginner" learning sites. What I like about yours is the pace of your lessons. It's just perfect for an old codger like me. It's more difficult than I imagined but I'm determined learn how to plan if it kills me.
Thanks Ralph. I pride myself in teaching older guitar students. Most guitar teachers out there focus on the young bucks but I love my 50, 60 and 70 years old students. We like the same music too :)
I’m self quarantined right now and I ordered a guitar to keep me busy. I’m watching videos like this as the suspense for me grows before the package arrives! 😃😃😃
Julie, thank you so much. Means so much. I get a lot of hateful comments from people from time to time so I really love knowing that my teaching style works for so many people.
Lauren Bateman Thankyou for your reply lauren, I can’t believe people sometimes & why they would disrespect you & yr technique, i would love to have you as my teacher, i find a lot of the clips on U tube get so carried away by their own expertise don’t really show you much, like yourself for instance, you show how to position your left hand on the particular frets, i watch you over & over to perfect my understanding. Wish i lived in USA near you😊
really, really enjoy your style of teaching, me being 74 but young at heart have bought a Taylor 114ce 3 years ago, haven't learned because the strings are hard on my fingers, so two week ago bought Peter Frampton Les Paul Epiphone and put 9-42's on her and much easier on the fingers, auxiliary have tried for 40 years but gave up so many times, what you have shown me is a breath of fresh air with your ease of teaching and dangling the carrot to get the donkey to move is a nice approach, maybe have bit off more that one can chew but really wanting to play also to read music, it would be nice but troublesome for you but it would be nice to have a book by you so one could follow along and make note's on it when watching you go through the lesions, Lauren, thank you, your a ray of sunshine and have put hope in the heart, keep teaching and thanks you so very much. wish you health and happiness, George
Awww George, sell I'm so happy to help. I have a lot of students in the 60s and 70s and they love the step by step approach. Gotta start simple and build from there.
I am also one of those who at 62yrs learning to play guitar in this quarantine time using Classical Guitar which I bought 30 years ago from Yamaha factory in Kuala Lumpur , Malaysia to teach my girls. You are an excellent teacher ! After lot of struggle found easy to understand lessons and follow through to practice.
Just picked up a guitar at 59... a life long dream and playing c d EM and g in a day compared to other tutorials. Your lesson is very well presented. Thx lauren
@@LaurenBateman Yup! I think I should do that. Naturally I stuggle with shifting chords like any random guitar newb. But I think I will practice shifts by learning an easy song since I am the "implement a concept to learn it" type. Thanks
Hi. Out there there are good guitar tutors and very good guitar tutors, and then there is Lauren Bateman. Wow all I can say is this lady is the best. I have a dipped in and out of lots of online tutors and gotten lost very quickly as they seem to assume that we are intermediate or better. This lady is so patient going back and forth so it sinks in, showing how to progress from the two finger chords onward. I wish I could shake this lady by the hand and say thank you. I have picked up my guitar with renewed energy and vigour and hope to progress to being a better guitar player thanks to this lady. Best regards Lauren from Derek.
I’m a guitar player, singer, I have a couple of young grandsons wanting to start playing. I’ve been looking for a simple way for them to play partial chords, and this is great, thanks !
I feel myself comparatively an aged learner, but your teaching method is really fantastic! The way you show the techniques and the way you explain the steps are wonderful. I like it.
Haven't broken my guitar out since high school, and now that I have all the time in the world, decided to pick it back up. I had that same intimated feeling trying to find a good video, but your video is the only one I came across that makes me feel comfortable and breaks it down so clearly. Thank you!
Yet another ‘quarantined’ person who always wanted to learn to play an instrument. Finally at 70 years old bought a Fender acoustic guitar and trying to have patience to learn some cords. I appreciate your video!
My mother (is 81) has had a mini guitar for about 50 years now, but never learned to play. My grandchildren recently turned 7 (boy/girl twins). I took moms guitar in nd had it restrung and cleaned up, and gave it to Haydon for his birthday. He was super excited! I downloaded a couple apps, and we started. I decided at almost 58, I wanted to learn with Haydon! So I bought myself a cheap acoustic to start with, and THIS has been THE BEST COURSE we’ve learned from so far!!! Thank you, Lauren! For helping this ol’ granny and my grandson learn guitar TOGETHER!
I've been studying with other guitar teachers on TH-cam but something wasn't catching on then you came into my newbie musical life and walah. After a few lessons I'm succeeding and feeling like I'm accomplishing something with my guitar. Like the people who commented previously, you are awesome. Been bragging about how much I'm learning from you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
Watching this at work on my lunch hour. Can’t wait to get home and give this a try. Bought my first guitar in ‘88... always gave up because I could never switch chords. Going to stick with it this time. Kept one guitar since 2006 and can’t wait to start really playing it. Awesome video. Thank you!
@@LaurenBateman great. Thank you for asking. It’s weird the chords are already clicking and I don’t have to stare down. Just working on getting my fingers in the right place so I don’t deaden strings. But having a ton of fun. Thank you so much!
I have a guitar I bought over 20 years ago in high school but never really learned to play. My boyfriend plays often and is good and can just play by ear. He's bought some new guitars recently and has been playing more so I got my guitar out to try again. This video really helped me learn and practice chords. My fingertips may be a bit sore now....but I just need to keep practicing.
Ditto with all the new quarantine learners, lol. I got my guitar a couple of years ago as a gift because I wanted to learn and the goal is to play something with my granddaughter who takes piano lessons. I think that will be a special memory for both of us. Thank you.
Good vibes of thanks going your way! This is just what I needed. Not only because of COV ID, but because this year has not been good to me. My mom always wanted me to play. She passed two months ago, but I'm sure she's smiling because I finally found someone that CAN teach, and is a female!!! Thanks Lauren. You saved me. Please keep on teaching us out here!! We need it as if our life depended on it.
Sorry to hear about your mom. Let's honor her memory by learning the guitar. I have a free crash course if you want to go check that out too: Http://www.laurenbateman.com/crashcourse
@@LaurenBateman Gracias!!!!!! I will check out the crash course and EVERY link you send or post. You are definately the very best!!!! I will honor mami 💚💙💜
Love your teachings so much. I am a mother of 2 kids but always have a passion for music.I fortunately found you and I found very simple n interesting in ur teachings. I hope I will make the best use of ur lessons.God Bless You...
Without a doubt you are an awesome teacher! I have had a guitar for a really long time and have struggled! I like your pace and how clear you have explained each transition from one chord to the next. You've renewed my hope! :-)
Like thousands of others, I've re-picked up the guitar after seeing your video. Really like the 2 finger approach to create muscle memory for my fret hand. You're message in your videos are clear and your voice is pleasing too. I haven't seen a video on this: Finger or hand stretching exercises to get the angle right for my fret hand. Being a beginner, my left wrist isn't used to bending. Also, if you become a online student of yours, do you have a lot more music sheets that have strum patterns, chords, tempo, etc. I really like the sample music you have posted on your site.
Hi Jimmy, My website has more chord charts. I unfortunately cannot sell songs as part of my course, but I do teach a number of strumming patterns. Glad the two fingered approach is working for you.
Love your approach - leaving the complicated stuff till later. After watching hundreds of videos, you're the first one to point out that one can start playing some chords by using two fingers only. This makes things so much easier and will motivate lots of people to keep going and most importantly, have fun learning the guitar. Those complicated three finger chords make many people give up on learning to play the guitar. Thanks a lot.
God has sent you to help us noobs, I was not able to switch between a single chord, now I can switch between 3 this is just impossible to believe. You deserve more than one like, keep up the good work
Picked up the guitar for the first time ever during this lockdown and this is by far the best tutor and series of lessons that I have watched. Very useful. Thank you so much for making everything clearer.
Hi Lauren, I’m currently working on Oasis Songbird and Eric Clapton Tulsa Time. Going well so far using the cords that you taught in this video. Do you have any recommendations for any other beginner songs? Thanks
I'm over 50 (way over) and have attempted three courses prior to this. Most in too much depth, some I need 3 more fingers and the last I would need a hand like Wilt Chamberlin to cover 4 frets even if I was 20 but a bit of arthritis doesn't help. I am familiar with not playing the full cord which helps but with the four fret coverage I gave up.. I believe your the angel I been looking for .. EXCITED !! I'm not used to being defeated .. You have a mindset to stoop to a beginner level with fret coverage that is comfortable for all . Thanks for being to adjust to all levels ..made my day !! Bill Bryan
Exactly what I was looking for, I am a beginner and I watched dozens of videos in the last month and I was become very frustrated about not finding “a video “ on where to start. I found other channels too complexe or too fast to start. So thank you for this step by step tutorial clip.
Well thanks for watching and I am glad it helped. Many teacher throw students into the 3 fingered chords and while some students can do that, I found over time that most students need a step before that to help them build towards those bigger chords. A lot of guitar player forget that it's really hard for a beginner player to move two fingers at a time never mind 3 or 4.
Lauren, you’re a great help for beginners, I can see your patience is huge and endless. Even so, a beginner is always eager to learn fast and quick. And at this pace they’ll grow some grey hair before they learn how to play a song. Anyway good luck to you and all the future Clapton and Gilmores. Au revoir.
Lauren -I really do wish newbie guitarists had access or knowledge of you lessons (videos). You are a master yet able to teach to the the true beginner in a way that they can understand. Thank you very much.
I just got a new acoustic guitar for my 19th birthday yesterday and I'm practicing my chords. I get to learn while being self isolated, will stop me from being bored for sure
Hi Lauren, Thanks a lot, you made guitar playing so easy. I guess nobody could explain and teach better.. I have been struggling in switching chords and never thought it can be so easy the way you took it through. Thanks a lot Lauren. I got ma teacher :) It feels as good as you teaching in person. Stay blessed. No more diversion in learning it Love you for this :)
Twice a year I go home 2 Europe since Covid happen could not go so my husband bought me a guitar & thanks 2 this beautiful lady I now know how to play it .
I just got my guitar a couple hours ago, literally just got home with it and already memorised these chords along with G major and C major and I'm super excited as I've wanted a guitar since I was two. Update: I now am learning actual songs! I've already done some covers and personal songs which you can check on my channel, but I'm working on multiple other songs♡ Thank you so much for your help
I just wanted to say Thank You! Of all the TH-cam instructors who post beginner lessons you are the Best! You showed me chords I just struggled with day after day and I got them down now Thanks to you. So excited to watch the rest of your videos. Thank You!

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! You teaching technique for beginners are absolutely amazing. I have been struggling for 3-months. As of last night, I could not make a chord change. After watching your video for just 10-minutes of so. I quickly grasp the easy 2-finger chord formation, Starting with E-minor. The rest is history. BAM! I am finally and actually switching chords and strumming at the same time.
I’m 68 and so hoping to play guitar but need someone who is very patient as I have trouble understanding and need things repeated over and over and I feel you could be that teacher for me ..
Hi Lauren, I played guitar thirty five years ago. I had to stop after suffering a very bad injury to my left hand. I have lots of nerve damage and my left thumb dose not bend anymore, it fused in a straight position and is one half inch shorter. Anyway about three weeks ago I came across a beginner lesson video while I was surfing TH-cam, not for guitar lessons, but I watched your video and it got me to thinking maybe I should try to learn to play guitar again? So I started watching more and more of your videos and decided to go out and buy a guitar and give it a try. I’m so glad I did and that I came across you. I’ve been playing for two weeks now and slowly things are coming back to me but I have to figure some different angles and how to grip the guitar as my thumb does not bend I have to use more pressure from the meaty part of my thumb at the base which changes some of the angles for my fingers. But I’m figuring it out as I go. Thank you for the way you show multiple angles and finger placement and close ups. You are a wonderful instructor! Thank you
Oh my goodness. This is such an amazing story. You are a perfect of example of where there is a will there is a way. You will develop your own unique style. Good for you. So happy to have helped you pick it back up again.
Hey, Lauren thank you for your videos. I used to go for lessons some years ago and I can't say I've learned as much as I have been learned by watching your videos! The part I love the most is how easy you make it, by switching your fingers from one note to the next, and how you zoom in on your hands. That is so helpful to me. Thank you so much.
I bought a guitar myself , always wanted to play, and am so glad to watch this video ... you made it sooo simple and thank u for zooming in.:) such a great teacher!!! Thank u so much.
I think you have the very best guitar lessons on TH-cam. You explain everything so it is easy to understand and your teaching of the correct positions is excellent. Thanks so much for the outstanding lessons.
Hi. Lauren. You are no doubt an amazing teacher gifted by God. I was into singing songs and music but without knowing guitar. So before buying a guitar I gave a thought to learn the chordes and to strum. I went thru your beginners lessons and you really gave me an inspiration to buy a guitar. Thanks to you Lauren. Hatts off to u
I love many things about your teaching style, but what I appreciate the most is that you don't go in to "show off" mode right from the start. Many online instructors go all out with riffs, cords and impossible solos, right before they teach us/me how to play a 1 finger note/cord. Yeah, they're good, but it just makes me feel like I'm going to suck before even picking up guitar. Thank you again. Triple.
Awww, thank you so much. I'm not really a show off, noodle type of player. Glad I can make you feel better about playing guitar. Confidence is the first thing every guitar player should develop in a student.
Thank you Lauren !! you are brilliant and a great teacher. you know how to make a non-musician a guitarist !! You are too good in this lesson, I always got stuck on C and G and this somehow stopped my guitar learning. you made it easy !! I read a couple of comments and see people love your lesson and then I saw your comment that you get some hate as well...trust me "tigress"---this world is being run by "good people like you". Indeed, there are some handful of people who cant see good things when they open their eyes..but leave them Big thank you- keep spreading good learnings in the form of music !!
You are so helpful! I've dusted off my 8 year old guitar and have been searching through so many beginner tutorials on youtube for weeks now. So glad I came across yours, super easy to understand. Thanks so much for posting! Love from Sydney, Australia! :)

Thank you so much for these simplified chords. I am past 73 and left-handed but I have to force myself to play right-handed and it works Just love your lessons . God bless.❤️🙏
My mom helped me buy my guitars 3 years ago while we were fighting her cancer together and at some point I was just afraid to be a failure. Your class helped me. I am working with it every night before bed now!
Thank you Lauren for your concise and effective lessons. Your interpersonal style while getting to the point along with the close-up video of chords holds my attention and easily drives the lesson home...
Really nice video Madam. I searched many videos for finding the correlation between struming and fret & string selection. And switching between the strings. And finally got the answer from this video. I'm a very very very beginner in guitar learning. I tried Em and G chord. But I'm feeling pain at back of the left hand palm and even in fingers. Is there any warm up exercise do I need to do to free up the muscles.? Kindly suggest.
Just subscribed I just got a guitar as an early b-day present from my sweet husband. Im 45 and I’ve been wanting to learn for a while. My brother played the guitar. He committed suicide May 18, 2013. I miss him and I’m learning for not only for myself but in homage to him. He tried to teach me when I was little but I was too sidetracked and got mad when I couldn’t learn it right away and gave up. I will not give up now! Thank you for this!!!!! ❤️
Hi Lauren thanks for the tips I bought a guitar nearly a year ago and went through some videos and got confused and put it aside but after watching yours I felt that I can go back and practice..
Honestly speaking I love how simple and hands on practical your lesson is, I have been searching throughout youtube for the best first lesson for guitar and all others are not suitable for beginners! Thank you for this lesson this is working for me I find this so much easier than any I have come across! You highlighted the relevance & importance of these 4 basic chords! Perfect starting point you are a great teacher! Sending you thanks from Durban South Africa! 🙏🙏
Lauren, love your videos. Mind if I add a quick suggestion to the conversation? A guitar tech was stringing my Martin accoustic years ago, when I was at the Guitar Center, in Tucson, AZ, where we once lived. I was just beginning and played really bad, but kept practicing and had it in my head to at least learn a few songs to play privately. I really like country music style of playing, and he did as well. His advice to me was this: "Remember, John, the BEAT drives the song. You have to work on getting the beat down, then you will see improvements in your picking, and open up lots of songs to play. " Well, I did work on what he suggested. If you check my playlist, a song I posted is one I have played for years, using only two chords, CG, and sone open picking. The CG chords are played with the thumb and index fingers only, but I use the other two fir open string chords, and the pinky is always just on the 1E lowest string to balance my hand. The pinky finger helps keep my right hand in position. Anyway, the song on my list, "Trusting Jesus," is a two chord CG song, but any of your viewers could probably do it any way they like, in any style, with better riffs than I do. Anyway, just thought I would share this with you.
I've had my guitar about a week now and have watched a lot of guitar lessons videos even before I got my guitar but you have the most helpful video I've seen thank you very much
Thanks for the help turned 60 always wanted to just strum a few cords and it feels fantastic gotta a long way to go but enjoying every minute with your teaching, it's all about having fun look forward to talking more lessons
Paul, absolutely. That's what my channel is all about. Keeping things simple. I have a few intermediate songs that I'm adding in to give people a challenge, but I find most people want to have fun and feel like the guitar is accessible. This method helps do just that! Thanks for watching.
This is a great tutorial. I wished I had found you when I first started learning. So many teachers out there that do not give clear instructions. I have subscribed and will follow you. Thank you.
Hi Lauren Could you please show a few songs using these chords, that would help with my strumming practice, hopefully a few songs I might know and have an idea about the correct sound I should be making .. Love the way you teach and thank you 😉🇬🇧
During the time I forgot my dream of learning to play the guitar because I couldn't learn to learn even by rehearsing on my own. because no one teaches and I am ashamed to teach others. besides, I don't have time to visit my acquaintances who know how to play the guitar. it's good to have such content for learning to play guitar. and I greatly admire her teaching. very clear, simple and easy to learn. I really like her. . little by little, i am learning. maybe I'm not good at playing. I can only play the guitar properly. this is a huge pleasure to me. Thank you so much. Keep it Up 😊
Brilliant instruction, thank you! I’m in my 50s and relearning the guitar after over 40 years thanks to your guidance. My guitar teacher back in 1976 never told me to only strum 4 strings on a simple C chord. What a moron!.....My only issue now is that It hurts my fingers after a few minutes. I have metal strings but can’t get out to buy new strings during this quarantine. Any suggestions?
First, welcome back to the guitar. Second, that's totally normal. You will build up calluses over time but don't be discourage if you can only do 5-10 minutes in the beginning. Thanks for commenting. Don't forget to subscribe and like the video.
One of these evenings after few days into the quarantine I surprised my father watching you with my Gibson SG on his lap... We discovered he missed his calling as a rock star......... Thanks
Super easy and very logical fingering of the E minor chord makes all the others easier even if you use three figure chords...excellent beginner lesson .Two thumbs up from Marblehead ,Ma. !
Oh really?!?!?! I live in Lynn on the Swampscott line. We're neighbors! Yes, I call this the pivot point method. Makes learning other chords much easier.
Wow just checked your TH-cam page and I like all the songs from your lessons ! I am a P.T. taking a break from working in nursing homes for past year during Covid . I've been locked down here teaching myself guitar and mandolin building, my woodworking skills exceed my playing skills but now with new songs from a new teacher...I might go far ! I too played piano but was denied the chance at guitar. Now I'm going all into strings ...cigar box, guitar, mando, heck even broke out my old fiddle ! Must be driving the neighbors crazy but I,m having fun ! P.S. my sister used to live at Eastern Ave. where it meets King's beach ! Keep the good music coming and stay safe. Mike W.
Wow!! I wish I would of found your lesson 6yrs ago. You go in to great detail w/these chords! It took me weeks to learn them, but now, they are fairly easy! Great work, thank you!
You are a superb teacher for the beginners. Well explained Lauren. I wish you were a teacher in my city. I would have learnt from you. I really like your way of explaining👍👌
This is great so far Lauren, you are an amazing instructor, my left hand 3 fingers are suffering now, but it's a great satisfaction so far.....Thank you!!!!!
Lauren, I've played a little before , but didn't understand, Later bought an eletric Guitar , my friend told me his friend dropped it and put a dent on it and don't know if it works , I ask him sell it to me , he sold it for $60 , and it works and that is what I use along with You , Thank You 😊
You really are top notch in all your ways of delivery Lauren. Many thanks for everything you give to all of us. I am amazed how simplified you manage to make things. Dropping the little finger out of a C Major chord? Wow! Whod've ever thunk? Love it. :) I am so green to all things guitar related, but you are an exceptional introductory guide through all of it for me for sure. Thank You! P.s. those spider exercises you have in another video are tough! Look'n forward to getting better all the time. You provide a GREAT foundation to build on. Just like teach'n a horse, good things take the time they take. Patience is a wonderful virtue. You exemplify all traits of proper teaching Lauren. Much obliged to you my Dear. Endless appreciation for your lessons.
Aww thank you again. There are many different ways to play a C chord my friend. Those spider exercises will help you with getting dexterity in your hands so that you can play your chords faster. :)
Thank you for sharing your talent with others. The acoustic guitar is my passion as well. Playing guitar privately and writing a few songs really opens up the creative life of ordinary people, and why not enjoy playing, as well as listening to music. The chords you taught here are roots found in so many beautiful songs, but may I also say you can also try the variations like DGAD, ADAm, CFGAm, and experiment at your leisure. Keep on practicing everyone, and enjoy time spent with your guitars.
I am a professional musician. I found your link and I have shared this tutorial with my daughter who is a beginner. Your tutorial seems very simple and not intimidating. Thank you.
Thank you so much for your video. I have written songs and poetry all my life but never learned an instrument. I bought a guitar yesterday and I am determined to figure this out. Your video was very helpful, and unlike other videos I have watched, I don't need a major in music theory to understand. Thank you again for all your help. I look forward to watching more of your videos
Daniel, that's awesome. Thank you for taking the time to comment. So happy my teaching it helping your. I actually don't have a degree in music, so that's probably why a lot of people like my teaching style. LOL You should have to have a degree in music to understand it, use it and love it.
in isolation so no excuses not to learn thanks so much lauren, had this guitar for years now determined to learn it and also because I'm left handed it's always that bit harder to compute between brain and finger placement whilst watching a right hander your videos a fantastic help,(one day ,maybe just one day )
Thank you - this is a great help - I am a senior and I have child-sized hands so trying to stretch to some of the chords was almost a deal breaker....at my advantaged age, I don't mind taking a few short cuts as this way I can at least play a few tunes! Also, thank you for the video about the proper pic to use - the one I was using was way too rigid! I have a Baby Taylor guitar...which I love!

I understand there are not the traditional 3 fingered C and G chords most teachers teach. This is a BEGINNER GUITAR LESSON. Do don't be mean about it. Not everyone can jump right into 3 fingered chords. :)
Don't forget to like the video too!
Have you got something on how to hold a spectrum and strumming? You teaching technique is stellar!
Yes, on my chanel there is a section on guitar basics:

Another 'quarantined' person using this time to learn! I've owned this guitar for 10 years and have yet to learn, lol! This is exactly what I needed! Thank you!
Glad to be of service. Hope you learn alot.
same here!
Do share your experience Barry.. I'm trying to learn that too
I’ve had my guitar for a year and I have t learned also
Barry, Me too!! my guitar has been on my wall for four years ! Its never to late to learn:)
A lot of ppl are gonna learn so many new things while in quarantine that they never thought they would..and playing guitar for me is one of them..thanks Lauren!
I hope so!
i am 46 now... use to admire a guitar school in Sector 21 Chandigarh (29 yrs back when i was in class 12 ) at that time had a great desire to learn guitar...but time goes on and on...and now here i am....can't say thanks to Corona....using my son's guitar...and learning the chords...Uuuuu huuuu.. Stay safe..Stay Home..
Glad to have you here.
Thank you. Glad you found my channel!
I’m a 53 year old truck driver and I’m learning more from your videos than I’ve learned from any other teacher. Thank you
Glad to help Damian. 😊
I’m 67 and am gonna get it too
I’m self quarantined right now and I ordered a guitar to keep me busy. I’m watching videos like this as the suspense for me grows before the package arrives! 😃😃😃
This will be a great video to review when it comes in!
Dragòn Flame same!! I just got my guitar today, disinfected it and started playing. :)
Same here
I did the same thing. I’m in my first few days. I got mine Thursday evening. I wish you all well with it!
Have you gotten it yet?
This lady is brilliant, i find she is actually showing you whatto do with the frets & where to place yr fingers unlike other tutors
Wish i lived in USA near you😊
Thank u for this guitar lesson. I watch and follow.
(March 06, 2020)
really, really enjoy your style of teaching, me being 74 but young at heart have bought a Taylor 114ce 3 years ago, haven't learned
because the strings are hard on my fingers, so two week ago bought Peter Frampton Les Paul Epiphone and put 9-42's on her and
much easier on the fingers, auxiliary have tried for 40 years but gave up so many times, what you have shown me is a breath of
fresh air with your ease of teaching and dangling the carrot to get the donkey to move is a nice approach, maybe have bit off more
that one can chew but really wanting to play also to read music, it would be nice but troublesome for you but it would be nice to have a book by you
so one could follow along and make note's on it when watching you go through the lesions, Lauren, thank you, your a ray of sunshine and have put hope
in the heart, keep teaching and thanks you so very much. wish you health and happiness, George
Awww George, sell I'm so happy to help. I have a lot of students in the 60s and 70s and they love the step by step approach. Gotta start simple and build from there.
Jeremy Parr i am 65 and I just brought a acoustic guitar I always wanted to play a guitar thank you for showing theses cords yours truly Jeremy Parr
Glad it helped!
So happy that it helped you! Lauren :)
Just picked up a guitar at 59... a life long dream and playing c d EM and g in a day compared to other tutorials. Your lesson is very well presented. Thx lauren
Joanne, thank you so much. I appreciate the positive feedback.

Me: *Learns Em & G chords*
My Mind : Aight! I am David Gilmour now.
D & Cm Chords : Allow us to introduce ourselves
Ha ha ha. Cm is no joke. Stick with Em, G, C and D for a little while. Lots of songs you can play with only those 4.
Oh my goodness. Thank you so much. I truly appreciate that. Means a lot. ♥️ So glad that this helped you.
I’m a guitar player, singer, I have a couple of young grandsons wanting to start playing. I’ve been looking for a simple way for them to play partial chords, and this is great, thanks !
Awesome. Glad you found it helpful.
I feel myself comparatively an aged learner, but your teaching method is really fantastic! The way you show the techniques and the way you explain the steps are wonderful. I like it.
Glad that this helped. Yes, I developed this teaching strategy particularly with older learned in mind.
Haven't broken my guitar out since high school, and now that I have all the time in the world, decided to pick it back up. I had that same intimated feeling trying to find a good video, but your video is the only one I came across that makes me feel comfortable and breaks it down so clearly. Thank you!
Rock on! Glad you like it.
Yet another ‘quarantined’ person who always wanted to learn to play an instrument. Finally at 70 years old bought a Fender acoustic guitar and trying to have patience to learn some cords. I appreciate your video!
Lillian you are so welcome. Glad you found the video and so happy to be helping you.
Debra, thank you so much! I truly appreciate it. I have another super easy one for you:

Your lessons are very easy to follow and by far one of the better guitar teachers on TH-cam!
Thank you! Appreciate the kind words.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
Lorna, so glad that you found me!
Watching this at work on my lunch hour. Can’t wait to get home and give this a try. Bought my first guitar in ‘88... always gave up because I could never switch chords. Going to stick with it this time. Kept one guitar since 2006 and can’t wait to start really playing it. Awesome video. Thank you!
Yes I love it! How did it go?
Keep practicing and build those calluses.
Ditto with all the new quarantine learners, lol. I got my guitar a couple of years ago as a gift because I wanted to learn and the goal is to play something with my granddaughter who takes piano lessons. I think that will be a special memory for both of us. Thank you.
You're welcome :)
I have a free crash course if you want to go check that out too:

Lots of practice needed to move from. E Mi to D. Kicking my butt!!!
Love your teachings so much. I am a mother of 2 kids but always have a passion for music.I fortunately found you and I found very simple n interesting in ur teachings. I hope I will make the best use of ur lessons.God Bless You...
Well thank you so much. God Bless and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
@@LaurenBateman A very happy Christmas to you and to all your family..
Without a doubt you are an awesome teacher! I have had a guitar for a really long time and have struggled! I like your pace and how clear you have explained each transition from one chord to the next. You've renewed my hope! :-)
Oscar, thank you so much. I'm glad that you are finding this helpful as a first step in learning guitar. Glad to have renewed your hope!
I am 64 yrs old...very good and easy guitar chords. Will continue to learn from your site.
Awesome, thank you!
Glad to help Denton. That's why I teach the way I do :)
God has sent you to help us noobs, I was not able to switch between a single chord, now I can switch between 3 this is just impossible to believe. You deserve more than one like, keep up the good work
Awww thank you so much!!!!!!! I appreciate every single like I get 😃
Picked up the guitar for the first time ever during this lockdown and this is by far the best tutor and series of lessons that I have watched. Very useful. Thank you so much for making everything clearer.
Oh that's awesome. Glad to hear it's helping you.
Hi Lauren, I’m currently working on Oasis Songbird and Eric Clapton Tulsa Time. Going well so far using the cords that you taught in this video. Do you have any recommendations for any other beginner songs?
Thanks

Thanks Lauren. Great help.🎸👍🏼
I am starting to play at 73 years old and I found her site and she is very good. Can't wait to start playing tunes with her help.
Love it Larry! Glad you found me
@@LaurenBatemanI really love your you tube videos I am going to watch them every day to get better. Thanks for doing them Lauren.
Bill Bryan
William, you're very welcome! I'm glad this helped you. Thank you so much for watching and commenting. 😃
Au revoir.
Really accessible teacher. I'm 57 and just starting out.. Trawlled the web and decided to stick with you. I'm a slow learner!
So happy to have you as a student!
Lauren -I really do wish newbie guitarists had access or knowledge of you lessons (videos). You are a master yet able to teach to the the true beginner in a way that they can understand. Thank you very much.
Awww. So sweet. Well I was mostly self-taught and I don't have a music degree so I teach from a different perspective than most.
For the G chord, shouldnt there also be a finger on the 3rd fret first string?
4 Basic cord:Em,G,C,D for Success
Wonderful lesson💙Thank's , 🌅 morning.
Thank you! 😃
I just got a new acoustic guitar for my 19th birthday yesterday and I'm practicing my chords. I get to learn while being self isolated, will stop me from being bored for sure
Millie, welcome aboard the quarantine guitar trail. Good luck!
I love the way you teach like me as a begginer, may one song with chords precious Lord.
Thank you Mariette
Hi Lauren, Thanks a lot, you made guitar playing so easy. I guess nobody could explain and teach better.. I have been struggling in switching chords and never thought it can be so easy the way you took it through. Thanks a lot Lauren. I got ma teacher :) It feels as good as you teaching in person. Stay blessed. No more diversion in learning it Love you for this :)

Twice a year I go home 2 Europe since Covid happen could not go so my husband bought me a guitar & thanks 2 this beautiful lady I now know how to play it .
Glad to help!
I just got my guitar a couple hours ago, literally just got home with it and already memorised these chords along with G major and C major and I'm super excited as I've wanted a guitar since I was two.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! You teaching technique for beginners are absolutely amazing. I have been struggling for 3-months. As of last night, I could not make a chord change. I’m 68 and so hoping to play guitar but need someone who is very patient as I have trouble understanding and need things repeated over and over and I feel you could be that teacher for me ..
I like to go slow.
You're welcome Rob. Glad that you found it helpful.
I bought a guitar myself , always wanted to play, and am so glad to watch this video ... you made it sooo simple and thank u for zooming in.:) such a great teacher!!! Thank u so much.
Rock on!
I think you have the very best guitar lessons on TH-cam. You explain everything so it is easy to understand and your teaching of the correct positions is excellent. Thanks so much for the outstanding lessons.
Wow, thanks! You're welcome. :)
Hi.
You can do it!

Thank you Mauricio. Congrats on picking up the guitar.
Indeed, there are some handful of people who cant see good things when they open their eyes..but leave them
Big thank you- keep spreading good learnings in the form of music !!
Aww thank you. Glad it's been helpful. There will always be negative people. But that's OK, because my efforts come from that which is good. :)

You're so welcome!
You are probably holding the guitar too tightly. You don't need to squeeze as hard as you think.
@@LaurenBateman Thanks Madam...Will try today.
Awesome! Glad to have you
That's so sad that he died keep trying and never give up!
That was seriously by far the best video I’ve found

Hi Lauren thanks for the tips I bought a guitar nearly a year ago and went through some videos and got confused and put it aside but after watching yours I felt that I can go back and practice..
Elias, glad that you have picked it back up. Hopefully more of my videos help you.
Jordache, so glad that you found me. That's amazing!
I support your point ..she is really doing perfectly especially to the begginers like me .. excellent teacher Lauren Bateman
I love two chord songs. There's not enough of them. I should make a video on 2 chord songs.

Thank you.

Keep it Up 😊
Glad that you found my content helpful
Me tooooooo!!! Thank you so much Lauren!!
One of these evenings after few days into the quarantine I surprised my father watching you with my Gibson SG on his lap... We discovered he missed his calling as a rock star......... Thanks
Oh what a cool story. :) You're welcome.
I love your teaching! It is easier to follow and quite easier to follow. Thanks a lot. May God richly bless you. Am Robert In Zambia, Africa.
Wow, Zambia. Amazing. So glad this has been helpful to you.
Thanks Stevie!
You are a superb teacher for the beginners. Well explained Lauren.
I wish you were a teacher in my city. I would have learnt from you. I really like your way of explaining👍👌
Michael, thank you so much. I really appreciate you're taking the time to comment and I'm glad my explanations are helping you.
This is great so far Lauren, you are an amazing instructor, my left hand 3 fingers are suffering now, but it's a great satisfaction so far.....Thank you!!!!!
Gabriel, good to hear. The fingers will feel better over time :)
Lauren, I've played a little before , but didn't understand, Later bought an eletric Guitar , my friend told me his friend dropped it and put a dent on it and don't know if it works , I ask him sell it to me , he sold it for $60 , and it works and that is what I use along with You , Thank You 😊
Fantastic! You are welcome!
Sim just learning and have been watching teaching videos for 3 weeks. This is the best teaching I have come across. Thank you for this!!!
You are very welcome. Appreciate the kind comments.
I love your simple way of teaching!!
Thank you thank you thank you very much.
You're very welcome!
John, thank you for sharing your wisdom. Lots of stuff to experiment with on the guitar for sure.
Thank you!! Was what I was needing and looking for. Very doable and easy to understand
You're very welcome. Glad it helped.
wow over a million viewers!!! You must be an excellent teacher because you draw these many!! I'll be one of your fan!!
Thank you so much 😃

You're welcome rose!
Glad it was helpful!
You are excellent. I was wounded in the war and forgot many of my chords. Thank you for being so patient and understanding. God Bless you.
Robert, thank you for your service. Glad that I could help.
I've learned more from Lauren in 2 minutes than I have in 3 years from tons of videos!!!
Louise, thank you . Glad to help.
Thank You Ms. Lauren Bateman, You Are The Greatest Guitar Teacher.

in isolation so no excuses not to learn thanks so much lauren, had this guitar for years now determined to learn it and also because I'm left handed it's always that bit harder to compute between brain and finger placement whilst watching a right hander your videos a fantastic help,(one day ,maybe just one day )
Michelle, so glad that it's helping you :)
I am 68. Years the method u teach is really wonderfull to catch up madam thanks 👍
It's my pleasure
Thank you - this is a great help - I am a senior and I have child-sized hands so trying to stretch to some of the chords was almost a deal breaker....at my advantaged age, I don't mind taking a few short cuts as this way I can at least play a few tunes! Also, thank you for the video about the proper pic to use - the one I was using was way too rigid!
I have a Baby Taylor guitar...which I love!
Hey LJ, glad you enjoyed the video and found it helpful.
