You have gone from one of my least favourite reviewers to being right up there with the best and you've done that by being the real you rather than some Top Gear clone. Great review!
Not everyone is against "fake leather". Even super car manufacturers are realizing that. It's dated. It's cold in winter and burning hot in summer. Definitely a mentality thing that an actual need. Plus, resources. Give me the fake or even alcantara and I'll be very happy. :) Great review of the car. Usually I've just seeing reviews about how great this car is. You gave some practical viewpoints that make things more realistic.
That "fake leather" in the luggage compartment floor is called "Superfabric". It's basically scratch resistant which is why it's been used there. Do your homework.
My favorite part of your reviewing style is that, yes you go through the tech and numbers and all that, at the end of everything else, you answer the important question: "Forgetting everything else, are you going to enjoy driving it?"
You know, it would have been good if they had refrigerated the back compartment, used slightly smaller wheels and used the proactive hydraulic suspension from the 720S in the super series platform so that it got the dihedral doors. IMHO turning the 570 platform into a GT wasn't the best Mclaren could do.
Rory, you satisfy my car fetish in the grandest way. You drive my dream cars and test drive them as if they are rentals from Hertz. When I die, if there is a such thing as reincarnation, The Man Upstairs will Bless me by returning me to this very plane as YOU!! You have my dream job and your obvious love of cars really gets my heart rate up. Thank you so much. If you need someone to detail these cars, I am your man. Just to touch some of these cars will satisfy my love of the artwork that is inherent in a truly well-built automobile.
To me this is one of the most desirable cars because of its sober yet impressive styling.Yes may be the GT is the only car in my dreams but as for my personal experience this is not a real grand tourer : my 911s were what a gt commuter should be and I guess that still today I'd go for a standard Gt3 or a Turbo S offering amazing performance reliability and unequalled practicality.
I like this car, a lot. If only it had different doors. Leave it in a public car park and you are at the mercy of whoever parks next to you. Maybe had they installed the BMW / Tesla system of remotely calling the car it wouldn't be such a problem. As things stand, it's an enormous one.
To answer your question about fake leather: I think we should ALL have fake leather these days in order to help the environment and animals. Love this car though.
How about focusing on depreciation build quality and rubbish dealer back up. These are things that effect real world buyers and that why people stuck with 911’s.

They shouldn't have marketed it as a GT, but rather an Inbetween and or everyday supersports. The word GT has weight behind it and if you're gonna change the game, you'd better be able to beat it.
It's quite the opposite, the front looks great it's the back end styling that ruins it as it's like any other McLaren (ugly) and certainly not GT like.

McLaren missed a trick, they had the perfect opportunity to delivery the version of the SLR everyone wanted i.e the SLR without all the Mercedes. I'm still not seeing the appeal of this car over the 570S spider, I'd pick the latter every time.
@@MatteoFitness I've completely U-turned on this car, it is very classy but I still think it was a missed opportunity to make a unique GT platform instead of reusing the same monotub chassis
From all the videos I’ve seen of the Tesla Roadster and C8 Corvette, these two industry disrupters are going to give the current crop of supercars and hypercars a serious run for their money once they show up in Europe. Whether you agree or not, I’ll guarantee you that at least Mclaren is seriously worried.
Oh the Tesla Roadster that everyone likes to compare cars to as if it’s something you can go out and buy but may never actually come fruition. Let’s wait till you see the finished product to see if it actually delivers. As far as the C8 Corvette, I agree that it appears to be an amazing value, but it is such a generic looking “supercar” with knock off styling and the odd proportions of an El Camino in order to have a trunk big enough to hold the targa roof and golf clubs for its 40,000 buyers per year that they plan on (and I’m sure will have no trouble finding) that buyers of cars like Mclaren/Lamborghini/Ferrari won’t give it a second look or consider it a purchase alternative
jameswillard1 Totally agree. It’s like comparing a Rolex to an Apple Watch, there will always be buyer for each one. But it would kinda suck that the only way to get a watch was to buy a Rolex. Apple has made something impactful accessible if you save enough pennies. Same with these cars. But as you say, let’s see once first deliveries occur.
Victor, so you mean all the roads in the world are narrow and all limited to 70 mph apart from UK you say? Well it might be good for you to travel more and loose your stupidity side! 😉
The review is good but the car, not really. To me, Mclaren tried to stick their leg into the doors of GT class and did not succeed. GT acronym is way too vague at this point, one manufacturer says it's the speed and handling that's important, the other one will claim it's power and comfort and so on. This would not be such an incomplete car if they would invest into a good simple infotainment system that would just work, on top of that, seating should be supreme and it's not. 150k ought to buy you some of that old leather chair comfort. I'm not gonna go further into problems, one thing they definitely did right is the looks, IF you want a "conservative" Mclaren, this is the one to get. Still, not a good effort and I would be hesitant to pay such a big sump of money for a car that feels like it's old in a bad way and outdated right out of the factory.
