    What is hot about Daniel Amen is his gallant pioneering spirit and the tenacious ,dedicated way he went about finding the right care for Andrew, especially while getting so much resistance from the outrageous ignorance in the medical community.The video went viral because it's deeply moving to see a doctor still capable of critical thinking and being a genuinely compassionate ,intellectually competent , effective healing influence .38 million people got that and LOVE that about him!

    Thank you for this great informative conversation. I have memories of my father's abuse that disturb me every day. I will seek out EMDR therapy. Tana I have the greatest peace of mind with random sounds at night by having a dog. I never feel fearful at night because my dog can wake from a deep sleep, and run out the back door (doggie door) in a barking frenzy if there is a person walking by on the sidewalk by my home. Security cameras are a great substitute, but without the love and companionship of a darling pet. I've never had large dogs, my small dogs make plenty of noise to dissuade potential trespassers.

    This started out to be very helpful but became a personal conversation between husband and wife and I felt like I was on the outside looking in. The doctor would talk about his parents and she would interrupt “your parents are great.” How the hell does this help those of us who are desperate enough to look for this information and watch the video. Please remember who your target audience is for God’s sake! This is a conversation that really should have occurred after the video so they could reach the people they were trying to help.

      @@geetergrl46 calm down, they are helping and you are here, watching a very good resource for help. Trauma causes changes in the brain. He does brain imaging. He fought the system that resisted him. He changed the system and now brain imaging is available when before they would just send you to a shrink. I remember 1991. That’s the year I graduated from high school. My dad was an alcoholic. We were all traumatized in that house; one of my half-brothers had to leave and go live with his dad in NY state. My older brother stayed with us for some reason. He always resented my dad. There was no psychological help for us in 1991. We were on our own. Now Dr. Amen has made a breakthrough in neuroscience and psychology. We have better tools now and much better help. This is an extremely important video for me. I am starting to understand things now, why I act the way I do, the reason for my fears and mental afflictions, and realizing: I can change and become better.
      This may not be the best format of presentation for you. That’s ok. Keep seeking out more information specifically suited for you. If you keep looking, you’ll find it. There’s so much information on the internet. We didn’t have ‘the internet’ in 1991. Be thankful for technology!

      Mrs Amen does reach in to attempt to contribute but she unintentionally dominates the conversation with far too many anecdotes. It would be good to modulate volume levels. And for her to practice active listening. Then when speaking say more with fewer words.
      The subject was barely covered. The side streets took over.

    I'm the eldest daughter of an Asian household and my mother was an alcoholic for 30 years (even before when I was born). I'm 23 now but I grew up having to be emotionally responsible for myself and my sister because my mother drank every night and neglected us and our father was aggressive, harassed me, was a serial cheater, and often absent. Essentially I became her punching bag and my sister's shield. The upbringing made extremely neurotic, severely anxious, depressed, and attentive especially to people's shortcomings.
    There is extreme resentment on my part for my parents and I have decided to never get married or have children.

    My mother and father were alcoholics and I was basically an only child (half-siblings were out of the house). My mother was worse. I have dealt with severe chronic depression since I was 13. I have deep shame and insecurity. I have difficulty with relationships even though I have been in one for 9 years, I feel controlled by him because he "parents me." I had issues with substances as well, though I have been sober for 9 years (boyfriend helped me wake up). My parents alcoholism has ruined my life and its hard to change these patterns developed in infancy and youth. How do you repair the brain?

      @bLackstar Abandonment and alcoholic parents cause us so many emotional problems in life. Attachment issues, trust issues and self-esteem issues. I'm so sorry for what you went through and hope you are healing and learning to love yourself for the true beauty you are.

      @c.taylormorgan3668 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @bLackstar Just keep believing in yourself. Even when we feel alone, we are not. Unfortunately there are so many parents that are ill-equipped to deal with life themselves and their children suffer. I think it is our life's journey to learn to fight for ourselves and gain the skills we need to heal. Learn as much as you can about meditation, nutrition and getting aerobic exercise for total well-being. Get as many tools in your tool chest to fight for your mental and physical health. You are precious and you are worth it. Your life has meaning and I want you to have a long healthy life finding out what you are here to do. Just take it easy on yourself and remember one day at time and please please never kill yourself which is a forever solution to a problem you will be able to fight your way through. You're precious, I assure you!

    • @c.taylormorgan3668
      @c.taylormorgan3668 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @bLackstar A good technique for practicing gratitude and self-worth is making a list of your inherent good qualities, the kind of qualities that do not vanish. Like you have a good sense of humor, you are a kind person, you are a hard worker, you are willing to help other people when they need it. You are lovable and you are worth other people's love and attention. Every day, look at this list and repeat these qualities to yourself. I had a therapist once who told me that I should hug myself and stroke my arms and soothingly tell myself that everything will be alright and I am loved and lovable. No one said this life was gonna be easy, but I think its the lessons learned along the way that make it worth it.

    • @kensurrency2564
      @kensurrency2564 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @bLackstar you’re making me cry! Someone DOES love you! There ARE good things about you! You are NOT alone in this struggle. Your feelings are only the result of your trauma. IT’S NOT YOUR FAULT. YOU DIDN’T ASK FOR TRAUMA. IT WAS INFLICTED UPON YOU. You are a good person! Talk about it with your girlfriend. You have to talk. Let it out. Deal with it! It may be hard. So what? You want to get better. Just remember that. You matter, and you want to be a better man. That’s all you need, my brother. I’m right here alongside you. We fight the battles of life together, NOT alone! ❤️☮️

    • @kensurrency2564
      @kensurrency2564 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @bLackstar I also wanted to say that my parents are both dead, my mom from cancer treatment in 1991, and my dad in 2001. I also have no parental support, unless I count my older brother who has silently taken over mom’s job of protecting us over the years. I have been with a covert narc for 20 years, and unfortunately I cannot stop the cycle happening with my kids right now. I’ve tried to be their protector and stability (my oldest is 18), and I just ran out of gas (Jan 2021). I have to leave the chaos and get myself healthy so that I can be a better father to my children. While dealing with my own childhood trauma. Wish me luck, brother - I just found a good house to rent! ❤️❤️

    I have had an alcoholic dad since I was little he was always an alcoholic and still is and him and my mom would always fight practically 24/7 and it was what I grew up with. My dad punched holes in the walls broke chairs and hit my mom and I this one time there was a pocket knife on the staircase and me and my sister grabbed it because we were scared of my dad stabbing himself or my mom and that's something little kids should never think about and all three of my sisters would sit next to each other just watching hoping that the fight would stop. My mom called the cops on my dad 2 times and my dad has left multiple times to go to LA after a big fight (still drunk) he would pack up and go. My dad also said once that he was going to drive off of a cliff and my mom called suicide hotline and he got taken away for a couple months and when he came back he looked skinny sad and unhealthy and worst of all my dad blames everyone else and never has he ever thought that maybe the fact he and my mom got divorced or why he got kicked out was because of him and when he calls me he tells me that it's all my mom's fault or that my mom is evil and brainwashing me . I'm sorry for typing this I just have no one to talk to.

    Children who have alcoholic parents should be removed from their care pronto. The religious institutions, schools and law enforcement most always side with the abusers. Most alcoholics are the most vicious, violent people on earth. Many commit crimes too. Alcoholics need their own compound where they can drink 24/7 no kids around for them to destroy. After working in the schools have no empathy for alcoholics.

    So my mom grew up with alcoholic family and it was abusive. My parents drank and again there was abuse they have been doing this 47 years. I had a brain tumor and had it removed. My mood is still low and have memory problems. I have brain scans every year. My dr tells me I'm fine I know I'm not. This is to be the best dr in my area. What should I do?

    Dr. Amen prescribes a lot of Adderal which is amphetamine. Is that a solution, to be on a stimulant drug your whole life? Just asking, I wonder about the long term things like losing your teeth and teeth grinding and on and on and on…my source is Lee Ann Rimes who publicly stated on video that he gives her Adderal for her emotional problems.

    This wasn't a helpful video re: affects on the child brain of alcoholics parents. Mostly off topic, where's the info on the subject? Makes me leery of Dr. Amen intentions. The video was mostly about Dr. Amen.

    So... the vid does not answer the question in the title. Last 2/3rd of the vid is just an ad of the clinic or memories of the doctor's past. :x I feel disappointed 😞
    The nurse interrupts the doc every time he is going back into the
    topic with someofftop bs...
