My daughter developed severe anxiety after her divorce, she came to live with her mother and me (her) dad, she had a type of agorophobia and lived on the couch, I shared a tool with her that had set me free of a similar problem when I was in highschool. This is the discussion: Anxiety is an emotion that modulates "care, protection" for one's life, if it has stuck wide open for some reason you have to realize it is up to you to tone it down, it is in effect trying to over-protect you and often shuts you down mentally and sometimes physically, example; she could not drive out of our housing area onto the main highway due to insecure thoughts, that meant her mind was keeping her home, keeping her safe, once she realized what was transpiring she gradually worked through her fears and used that perspective to free her complete life, she actually took a trip a year later to Nepal, liked the culture and volunteered her services helping earth quake victums for almost a year. Very interesting. I am 80, and still learning to let go of things I have carried in my mind, body and soul for so long. This has helped, along with letting go of the past, release things that happen in your childhood. It amazed me of what I had in my subconscious.Again thanks again.

"I'm not a fan of positive thinking. I'm a fan of accurate thinking." Yes! Loved the things he would do if he were an evil ruler- perfect teaching tool!! This has been awesome! Dr. Amen is one of my heroes.
I started my internship as a computer engineer and I told my supervisor that I'm not working productively. He told me that that's just part of engineering. It took a lot of energy just to read documents and datasheets. A few months later I saw a documentary about the effects of sugar. I realised that I consumed sugar almost every day. So I stopped. A few weeks later, I got so much engergy! My productivity skyrocketed!!
I work in tech and the offices are always full of junk food. I take a lunch box but it takes alotta force to sit next to a table full of chocolates and biscuits all day long.
The sight of this man always put a smile on my face. There are so many changes in my life that I owe to Dr. Amen that I can hardly list them all here, but they all made me a happier and healthier person today. It was a long journey but I am truly glad doc was there to show me the way.
My personal favorite: whenever you're in a negative mental state, pretend you're comforting a friend or giving them advice about how to deal with your situation. Seems to immediately make my situation much less negative.
I can’t thank you enough for this videos, I was going towards the wrong path and you showed me how to turn around and change my direction towards an opposite path, it’s priceless thank you so much
Dr Daniel is such a breath of fresh air. Feel so lucky to be alive. Cultivate your thoughts. Enrich yourself with new learning. Don’t ever lose your drive and hunger/desire. Make sure you are treating your body with the right ingredients to be at your best self. One last thing you ain’t your thoughts. Use this tool purposefully to enhance growth. Like dr Daniel said thinking about the opposite thought is a massive step to transform and keep your brain healthy . Thank you
Each time I find a favorite video I think it can’t be beaten. You are the best interviewer on TH-cam because you are able to listen without adding opinion but extracting theirs instead. My favorite one so far! Amazing.
“I am not a fan of positive thinking because positive thinking kills too many people” - Daniel Amen. A little anxiety is good. It makes you conscientious.
I love this channel! I found it by mistake and I have been under alot of work related and financial stress. My old diet I was losing weight but was tired and felt like a zombie. I started keto 3 weeks ago and it feels alot better and I got back under 300lbs. I now doing meditation, a gratitude journal and making it a habit to be in bed no later than 10:30pm every night. God bless all that your doing for the community Tom.
Most thoughts are automatic. And before you know it,thoughts own you!!! Thoughts arise in the unconscious and we are late in being conscious about it.....! Without the deep practice of 'awareness'(mindful meditation),it is really tough to catch negative thoughts and work with them!!!
Tom you are obviously brilliant but you have a super ability to appear like an ordinary person. It makes it easy for us to relate to you. I absolutely love your questions and interactions with your guests. You speak for all of us.
Hey TOm, Just wanted to say a quick thank you to you and your team, you´re really changing the lives of people all around the world. For example I´m flying to Munich today, from a small airport in northern Germany and at the table right next to me sits a person who is watching the Wim Hof Video. That was the moment I realized how many people actually watch Impact theory and how many people you have helped and still help develop a better mindset. I think I can speak for most of the people that watch your Videos from Europe, especially from Germany: Thank you very, very much.
usually what you believe was what you were taught as a child through your parents and if your parents told you you were no good and have used you emotionally for the first 18 years of your life it's really hard to overcome that programming
@Niko thank you Nico I agree 100%, I do all the brain for life and eating for the brain meditation went off deep breathing exercise and anybody from my past that help lay down that recording of me being no good I have told them if you want to be in my life your job is to lay down a new recording that I'm a good person because I've already got enough of the bad recordings so now my playback I wanted to be speckled with good stuff instead of bad it's not easy but if people truly love you and are for remorseful they'll do it
Sorry, I have to disagree. Food nutrients come first. You could be brilliant, but if you have a foggy brain from eating junk or dehydration, you are screwed.
Thank You All Who Pointed Out Byron Katie's The Work and For Calling Out Dr. Amen For Using It. I Have Heard Dr. Amen Before But Never Ms. Katie. I'm Checking Her Books Out Now. Thanks For The Heads Up!!!

Tips for a healthy brain : Use it or lose it Improve your mental fitness by regularly reading, learning, or doing activities that make you think, such as crossword puzzles. All of these help stimulate your nerve cells, and may even lead to the development of new brain cells. Protect your head Always wear a helmet when playing contact sports. Be sure to buckle up when you get in the car. Both of these can go a long way when it comes to avoiding brain injuries. Exercise Doing regular cardio workouts stimulates blood flow throughout your body, including your brain. Quit smoking While smoking is bad for your overall health, it can also lead to cognitive decline. Listen to your thoughts Try to check in from time to time with your thoughts or feelings. Keeping a diary is a good way to get into this habit. Look for any thought patterns or emotions that seem to be impacting your day-to-day life. They could be a sign of an underlying, treatable psychological condition.
I like the phrase "accurate thinking". In the same way, I think we can have accurate emotions as well: fear when there is real danger, joy when something really good happens, etc. Negative emotions are fine, as long ad they are related to real things in the outside world and aren't too strong (or too weak!).
Become WISED UP", LIVE the message means PRACTICE what message U PREACH to Others!!!! Grow UP!!! ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITIES, BE ACCOUNTABLE. ACT MATURED!!! BE WISE. LIVE WISELY . BE 😊 HAPPY!!!
I just stumbled across this video and was amazed. I had an hysterectomy a month ago and 3 weeks later my body is out of control. Unable to exercise and unable to work. No history of hypertension but blood pressure is super high. So instead listening to doctors telling me its part of my genetics I decided to research alternative methods. I have already started back walking twice a day (still healing can't do too much) and I'm exploring the world of meditation. This video popped up on my feed this morning and it has been very helpful. I'm definitely subscribing to your channel and looking forward to seeing more of your videos. For everyone that is saying negative things about Amen 🙏 I have learned a long time ago that EVERYTHING THAT WE KNOW, EVERYTHING was taught to us. Its called obtaining knowledge not stealing.

Extraordinary Guest! Dr. Amen's work has helped improve my life tremendously and it's wonderful to hear him speak and share decades of wisdom. Elimination diet, supplements, exercise... Do it! You don't need to suffer any more. Also, Tom, get that obnoxious text block bar off the screen! It's totally unnecessary for an hour long talk. You're not running down the top ten sports news in 2 minutes here... And don't interrupt your guests!
My company eliminated the free soda machines when we moved to a different office. It was the least they could do, but at least it was a step to help a little bit.
if business actually cared about their workers' health, and health costs; lunch hours would be a full 60 minute hour instead of 30 minutes, on-site food offerings would consist of more than vending machines, vacations would be a minimum of four weeks, and companies would make it easier for employees to commute on bike/foot; and this would be standard not just for the royalty in the executive suite, but also down to the lowliest warehouse, call center, and even the contractors. but apart from their own selves executive suite, they don't care. so enjoy the status quo until you can get something better going for yourself.
please TOM never stop what you are doing... you are so good at it that you are changing our lives...thank you for each interview.... You help me not only to grow but as well looking back at the things that I have put away... and those things are very damaging.... so now I have to rebuild everything... hahah
23:52 - 24:19 This is 100% what happens to me. Injuries can be so debilitating because I tend to choose higher sugar-containing foods specifically for the "feel good chemicals". This tends to inhibit proper healing of the injury as it just promotes more inflammation in the body. Then there is the struggle of having to fight and kick the sugar cravings again too.
As somebody who seems to be addicted to everything, I use a dozen tools to stay in the right zone. The "Is it true?" test that Dr. Amen mentions has worked for me so well for 20 years!
I would love to add here a credit to Byron Katie and ‘The Work’ which is where this guy has got his : 5 questions to to calm anxiety - she is SUPER worth checking out as the way she holds you in those questions is profound and was life changing for me. 💚
I know! I love that he used it in such mainstream media. She's brilliant, wish she'd gotten the credit, but more people who get this is great. Also highly recommended.
One of the best interviews. What I learnt today is you can be an advocate for change by being the example. I realised worrying about my parents and telling them the benefits of a keto typr diet to no avail but if I am not doing it myself why should they listen to me. Good point need to change my lifestyle then hopefully it will inspire and motivate them.
I am totally agreed .. My line is I am not eating what would make me unhealthy or causes me any inflammation.. enough with the environmental toxicity!! More videos like this should be made 🙏🏻💃🏻
"Isis has nothing on our food system." Whoa... I've seen some good ones but this is my favorite one ever. So much good information that is not only useful but practical. I just sat here taking notes and rewinding the whole hour.
I have lost all hope of being helped. Years of untreated mental health issues. Psychiatrists just kept saying different things and finally got detected with bpd. It is too late i think because symptoms are just out of control now. I feel hope when I hear this man but I have no idea if it will help. Thankyou Dr. Amen and Tom to bring in this interview.
true, but not only are foods about attachments, it's hella emotional!!!! it's the one thing you can "control" that makes you "happy" or feel good, when the world beats you up.... it's dependable and always there.... i think that's why it's so hard...
Tom, I absolutely LOVE your content. All these interviews had helped me so much that I wanna share it with everyone I know. But I'm from Brazil, and most of people I know can't understand a full video in English, so if you could enable the "automatic translation" whenever you publish would be so awesome! Thanks for everything, Impact/Healthy Theory is changing my life.
This should truly be the standard for psychiatric evaluation and treatment. We are in such a wellness crisis, and it is my prayer that this country moves towards these practices and education, so that we can actually heal and that other nations stop trying to follow us down this terrible health degrading hole for the sake of making money off of our citizens.
Dear Tom, I listen to Impact Theory Podcast every week. I enjoy the conversations and the information I gain on things that are useful in my every day life. Right now I am studying neuroscience with psychology therefore I thought the above video maybe useful, however there is no structure to this conversation. It's hard to follow what you both are talking about, you are for sure asking the right questions but we are not getting the right answers. So what are the 11 risk factors that destroys your brain?
Agreed. I don't even know how they enumerated these 'factors'. The interviewee seems to me to be a chancer repeating basic ideas and largely promoting his expensive scanning practise. Wow, who'd have thought contact sports would have a negative impact! Well, most doctors, so not particularly new information. The sugar discussion is just a surface reference to John Yudkin's book: 'Pure, White & Deadly'. Wonder why he talked about magnesium and GABA as being so marvellous for depression? Couldn't possibly be because he sells expensive versions of thsese supplements could it...? Con man.
@@tamarajessup1398 I think you can get through it. I'm getting through it. Find a good therapist. Don't be afraid to try a few. And don't be afraid to feel your emotions. The gut is smarter than the brain.
@@SelahSpirit these are the exact five questions Byron Katie teaches and in the same order, so I would say yes. Good to hear it from someone clinical, though, since many people need to hear things from multiple POV before they can integrate it. Perhaps the same inspiration wave that came to her approached him as well.
IIWW 1. Is this good for my brain or bad for it? 2. Is it true? 3. What have I done today to enhance my relationships? 4. What am I doing today that is purposeful?

this was excellent. A suggestion to producers of the show, imo, it would be great to have key points written in text on left of screen and things like actions and supplements.
“I’m not going to be in love with something that hurts me” It’s true, but I’m in love with MMA and Thaiboxing. Training everyday I’ve had 1 very mild concussion and just from that i feel the small effects today. I’m 15. But I love it, it’s my drug. Can’t live without it. It’s not the best for your brain long-term but I’m willing to take the gamble because I love it so much. After my concussion I taught myself to train and compete SMART. You CAN do contact sports IF you are smart. I train every single day and I’m not gonna stop until my body or something else stops me. Just started taking omega-3 and I’m hoping it’s gonna get rid of my small headaches I have now and then. With good intentions/ A.B
Also do Mt and I love fighting, for over a year been doing some serious research on the brain and realised these are best for your brain: fasting, fatty foods nuts/seeds, meats, fish, avocado, supplements, eggs Good low glycemic carbs :root vegetables, oats, barley, wild rice, fruits, vegetables, maca root Proteins: lean meat, eggs, spirulina, nuts, seeds, clean protein powder (preferably plant like hemp, peas protein, NOT SOY) Eat diet to increase hormones such as GH, Testosterone and lower estrogen(avoid soy, flax, inflammatory oils, stress, alcohol, SUGAR) I wanna try : hyperbaric oxygen therapy, research that its great. Good brain foods are obviously Fats carbs proteins, but also things like lions mane mushroom, chaga mushrooms, spirulina, hbot, high antioxidants food such as berries, dark chocolate, cacoa, black seed oil, shilajit Increase blood flow with hiit training, heat therapy, certain foods like ginger, watermelon, cloves Anti inflammation : no sugar, turmeric with black pepper in hot water, green tea, omega 3 in fish nuts seeds etc There's probably more but truly focus on these things, eat healthy, exercise, and do these techniques

Hi Tom - doubt you will see this, but just in case you do...want to see if I can help a bit: Love your work and your interviews; they have given me so much knowledge / insight / understanding from people who are leaders in their respective fields. Want to share something I see with you, as an engineer who has been on my own significant health journey with anxiety. Two things that might help actually eliminate your anxiety, from what I can see with you are these: 1) Upper Airway Resistance Syndrome - a sleep breathing disorder on the spectrum of sleep apnea which puts the mind and body and in a chronic state of fight / flight / freeze every night, and causes inexplicable and hyperaroused nervous system activity during the day. I know this because it's something I seem to deal with. I see it in you, as you have a similar craniofacial profile to me, which correlates with airway size...roughy. 2) Vagus nerve function - definitely worth looking in to whether your vagus nerve is working well; again, this can be due to STRUCTURAL factors, believe it or not, but not always. Tricky one, and you will need to find a clinician who deeply understands structure and function of the vagus. The latter is hugely implicated in chronic anxiety. Anyway, mate, I sincerely hope this helps. You're a champion. Thanks, Tom.
I love how Tom does the research on his interviewees (reads the books, listens to the podcasts, etc). It vastly increases the quality. Keep up the great work!
One of the things he says towards the end of the video is to write down what you want (I've done that), and everyday see if what you are doing supports that. That is powerful, and something to add to my daily life, thanks!

Very interesting. I am 80, and still learning to let go of things I have carried in my mind, body and soul for so long. This has helped, along with letting go of the past, release things that happen in your childhood. It amazed me of what I had in my subconscious.Again thanks again.
Good luck to you
May you continue to live longer.

Having a group connection is vital. I recommend Al-Anon meetings. We are about to become the companion of a Holy God, we should have some good stories. There's a bunch of them at Al-Anon
Whatever you do, just don't turn positive 🤣
Love that!
Cost.....what is CD the cost to be treated my Amen Clinic ??
I work in tech and the offices are always full of junk food. I take a lunch box but it takes alotta force to sit next to a table full of chocolates and biscuits all day long.
I stopped consumed sugar every day and my hair loss and inflammation of my body stopped and I lost weight too!
Reaaallly appreciate this comment 👌
The sight of this man always put a smile on my face. There are so many changes in my life that I owe to Dr. Amen that I can hardly list them all here, but they all made me a happier and healthier person today. It was a long journey but I am truly glad doc was there to show me the way.
My personal favorite: whenever you're in a negative mental state, pretend you're comforting a friend or giving them advice about how to deal with your situation. Seems to immediately make my situation much less negative.
I can’t thank you enough for this videos, I was going towards the wrong path and you showed me how to turn around and change my direction towards an opposite path, it’s priceless thank you so much
Tom, first off I also have the confusion of cold and anxiety. Second, THANK you for being so human❤. You ask great questions for all to relate to.
“Genes are not a death sentence, they should be a wake up call” absolutely brilliant!!!!!
Literally was about to find something to watch, and this popped up in my notifications. Could not have ask for more perfect timing. Cheers Tom!
Amazing.
Just enough of the right questions- let’s him speak without interruptions. Excellent interviewer.
“I am not a fan of positive thinking because positive thinking kills too many people” - Daniel Amen. A little anxiety is good. It makes you conscientious.
Just go work out and anxiety disappear
@@romanianhustler3309 clearly you didn’t listen and missed the essence of this.

16 years suffering from an autoimmune disease thank you for your information Dr Amen
Ditto.
I actually went and saw Dr Amen and had a brain scan and diagnosis , it changed my life , I feel better than I have ever felt .
Dale Chang Very cool! Do you have any tips for a healthy brain besides exercise?
Our brain can be our greatest asset or our greatest weakness depending on the beliefs we filled it with.
usually what you believe was what you were taught as a child through your parents and if your parents told you you were no good and have used you emotionally for the first 18 years of your life it's really hard to overcome that programming
You can tell Dr Amen is genuine as he is coming around to what really is a healthy diet and how bad sugar is.
Thank You All Who Pointed Out Byron Katie's The Work and For Calling Out Dr. Amen For Using It. I Have Heard Dr. Amen Before But Never Ms. Katie. I'm Checking Her Books Out Now. Thanks For The Heads Up!!!
If you haven't seen this interview with Byron Katie already it's astonishingly profound: Byron Katie - 'The Story Of The ONE' - Interview by Iain McNay (on youtube).
I was going to mention BK and The Work. As soon as I heard the Dr say 4 or 5 questions I knew that's what it was going to be.
I love the person interviewing he makes people feel comfortable. You can tell hes actually interested in evrrything people have to say
Tips for a healthy brain
:
Use it or lose it
Improve your mental fitness by regularly reading, learning, or doing activities that make you think, such as crossword puzzles. All of these help stimulate your nerve cells, and may even lead to the development of new brain cells.
Protect your head
Always wear a helmet when playing contact sports. Be sure to buckle up when you get in the car. Both of these can go a long way when it comes to avoiding brain injuries.
Exercise
Doing regular cardio workouts stimulates blood flow throughout your body, including your brain.
Quit smoking
While smoking is bad for your overall health, it can also lead to cognitive decline.
Listen to your thoughts
Try to check in from time to time with your thoughts or feelings. Keeping a diary is a good way to get into this habit. Look for any thought patterns or emotions that seem to be impacting your day-to-day life. They could be a sign of an underlying, treatable psychological condition.
This Tom Bilyeu is the best interviewer ever. In a league of his own. Got to give it to him. Wow
The questions he proposed are from Byron Katie. I highly recommend you guys read her book!! Changed my life!!! ♥️♥️♥️
I love this Tom. I've always wondered why even in good times I've always had a feeling of uneasiness, anxiety and lack of peace...
"I'm not going to be in love with something that hurts me " 💞
I definitely caught that gem 💯💎🙏🏼
Sr. Amen is not only a great scientist but a beautiful caring soul. He's the Mr. Rogers of the brain! Thanks for having him on!
I just love how real and genuine you are, Thank you for being you and for what you do.
What a superb guest doctor. Such a great communicator.
I’ve had his book for years. “Unchain your brain” it was a great read.
I just gotta say, people have turned me on to several podcasts and TH-cam channels. But your intros are second to none, phenomenal! They always get me excited to hear what's going to be said. Great Job.
Kre8or333 That's so true. This is why I really enjoy watching Tom Bilyeu. Bringing Dr. Amen on your show was also brilliant. I learned so much. Thanks a bunch.

These 5 questions are the inquiry questions from Byron Katie- - and they’re so spot on and helpful.
“You have to live the message. If you don’t live the message then you suck as a messenger.” So simple but so profound
Dr.Amen is such a GREAT personality. I read a lot of books from him. He's really unique...
Probably my favorite episode. Love your show and love Dr Amen"s stuff. So both together is "Legendary."
Tom, you are such a good interviewer. And humble showing your excitement and curiosity.
Wow! THIS is extraordinary! Watching from UK 🇬🇧 who else is watching in 2022?
Health is definitely and underrated topic when it comes to Business.
I believe that Health, Wealth and Happiness all go together. One who lacks in one of those 3, is not successful.
Tao Lopez was definitely onto something

23:52 - 24:19 This is 100% what happens to me. Injuries can be so debilitating because I tend to choose higher sugar-containing foods specifically for the "feel good chemicals". This tends to inhibit proper healing of the injury as it just promotes more inflammation in the body. Then there is the struggle of having to fight and kick the sugar cravings again too.
I'm addicted to sugar and chocolate
Thank you Dr Daniel Amen for helping all of us around the world
Those 5 questions are from Byron Katie's -The Work. He should have credited her. Byron Katie would be a great guest. Please get her on your show. X

Zahara Love - my thoughts too
Exactly what I was thinking! I definitely credit BK whenever I refer to her work!
I heard the toilet training example in a Sapolsky video before.

I would love to add here a credit to Byron Katie and ‘The Work’ which is where this guy has got his : 5 questions to to calm anxiety - she is SUPER worth checking out as the way she holds you in those questions is profound and was life changing for me. 💚

A really holistic approach to the human being with invaluable insights and health information! Awesome!!!

Dr. Daniel Amen is a very clever and talented speaker. Especially I like the "If I was the evil ruler..." part at 24:45. Very well said.
While watching, I was writing lots of notes, because this interview is so useful and full of nutrition information 🌹
I was drinking a bottle of coke, a glass bottle if your wondering and yes it was ice cold.
Con man.
Thanks a lot Tom and Dr. Amen
"I'm not going to be in love with something that hurts me"
Try coming from a home where physical abuse is equated with love. Screws you up.

@@SelahSpirit these are the exact five questions Byron Katie teaches and in the same order, so I would say yes. Good to hear it from someone clinical, though, since many people need to hear things from multiple POV before they can integrate it. Tom: I must say, you produce the most effective informative presentations I have ever seen. I do hope that you have been taking notes on all of your guests because I am looking forward to the most Best Selling Book on this planet...love what you do.
this was excellent.
Also do Mt and I love fighting, for over a year been doing some serious research on the brain and realised these are best for your brain: fasting, fatty foods nuts/seeds, meats, fish, avocado, supplements, eggs
Good low glycemic carbs :root vegetables, oats, barley, wild rice, fruits, vegetables, maca root
Proteins: lean meat, eggs, spirulina, nuts, seeds, clean protein powder (preferably plant like hemp, peas protein, NOT SOY)
Eat diet to increase hormones such as GH, Testosterone and lower estrogen(avoid soy, flax, inflammatory oils, stress, alcohol, SUGAR)
I wanna try : hyperbaric oxygen therapy, research that its great.
Good brain foods are obviously Fats carbs proteins, but also things like lions mane mushroom, chaga mushrooms, spirulina, hbot, high antioxidants food such as berries, dark chocolate, cacoa, black seed oil, shilajit
Increase blood flow with hiit training, heat therapy, certain foods like ginger, watermelon, cloves
Anti inflammation : no sugar, turmeric with black pepper in hot water, green tea, omega 3 in fish nuts seeds etc
There's probably more but truly focus on these things, eat healthy, exercise, and do these techniques
Arian B. - You won't love Thaiboxing when you are older with serious brain problems. Find another hobby that doesn't damage the organ that handles your health, wealth and happiness.

Hi Tom - doubt you will see this, but just in case you do...want to see if I can help a bit:
Love your work and your interviews; they have given me so much knowledge / insight / understanding from people who are leaders in their respective fields.
Want to share something I see with you, as an engineer who has been on my own significant health journey with anxiety. Two things that might help actually eliminate your anxiety, from what I can see with you are these:
1) Upper Airway Resistance Syndrome - a sleep breathing disorder on the spectrum of sleep apnea which puts the mind and body and in a chronic state of fight / flight / freeze every night, and causes inexplicable and hyperaroused nervous system activity during the day.
Lovely speech Dr Amen, I can listen to you all day, thank you.
One of the things he says towards the end of the video is to write down what you want (I've done that), and everyday see if what you are doing supports that. That is powerful, and something to add to my daily life, thanks!
I have watched this a couple of times, tons of great info! Recommend watching it several times. I have read some of DR Amen's books and. applying this knowledge is wonderful! I have learned more great things today that I missed before...... hats off to both of you for your interactions and chemistry in this video.THANKS
