Kratos only ever accepted therapy when he was in combat lol.
I understand Helios now, he’s a manifestation of Kratos’s self-hate and criticisms.
Yes. That is uh, it. I'm not going to say obviously. But because they say it in the game, haha 😅
Yeah helios is one of many possible symbols of kratos's merciless violence in greece, helios's death being a more meticulous and uneccesary one, along with his and kratos's complicated relationship, etc.
Right. It shows Kratos that if someone else treated him how he treats himself he would identify that person is being unreasonable and unfair. It undermines the idea that his low opinion of himself is justified.
Love how they finally did Tyr justice. Couldn't have picked a better way to do it, either.
very fitting, as he is the god of justice.
Tyr is the god of war
@normanmai7865
It's all the kore fitting that the "myth" of tyr comes to us not a God or war and battle, but of treaty and justice.
@@normanmai7865 More like the God of Therapy
"Blood, Sweat, and Tyr"
Goddamit that's good.
51:58 So that Journal Kratos is writing, he is writing it all for Atreus, so that he can learn about his father's journey in Valhalla
I loved the perspectives of kratos writing in a journal for atreus
It would be really interesting to see atreus come to learn about this sister. And his stepmom
So glad I'm not the only one who noticed that... In this DLC Kratos goes to god therapy and writes a journal about his feelings for his son. And its amazing.
Not only that, but journaling is a known therapeutic technique.
Mimir: Given Zeus' reputation, I'm sure you had plenty more of them to spare...
Kratos: I killed them too.
I have read somewhere that this was a love letter to the community and it truly is. In a time where most games are made just for money or technical awards, this is a relief, a comfort. It brings me back to good times playing in my PS2, but also makes me love the memories I'm making right now with this new games and I can't wait for the future of this characters, whatever it is. ❤
I love how Mimir never really judges Kratos, despite the stories and the terrible things he did in the past.
Mimir joined in just as much atrocities as Kratos. They're both on the road to redemption.
@@BladeoftheImmortal2005 what he do?
@@josephpa05 most of the things you correct in both games. Lol. He's the one that made the peace treaty with the dwarves that ended with their subjugation. He's also the one that trapped the whale you can help save in the middle of the map in Ragnarok.
@@BladeoftheImmortal2005He also played a big role in Odin gaining as much control as he had over all realms, and had a part to play in the death/disappearance of the Giants.
Arguably most of the games wouldn't have happened without Mimir doing what he did.
@@John.McMillan yea, I think he's the reason Freya married Odin as well.
"Master yourself!" is what Kratos yelled at Fake Tyr which is what got him to come with them when they found him again after running away after being found in the Nidavellir/Svartalfheim mines.
I love how Kratos, Mimir, Týr, Sigrun, all speak to each other within this. It really helps us learn more of their stories
being someone who goes/went to therapy they managed to almost perfectly represent it; For traumatic memories first you do what the fights were, re processing. remembering the event whilst doing something else to let your brain process; Then at the very end with the talk that's the re-defining part, realizing you did wrong and accepting the memory then re-defining it. 10/10 dlc
I know it’s a game but damn When he mentions he would trade decades in hopes of even just spending a few hours with his daughter in Elysium….shit actually almost brought tear to my eye
"Now *I* am mad at you"
Well. R.I.P Mimir.
Again.
Kratos' experience in Valhalla was a journey of self-reflection. It seems the nightmares of his past haven't left him even after leaving Greece and starting over in Midgard. Valhalla served as an effective form of therapy for Kratos. It helped reconcile his past. We learned he was much more than the monster we've come to know over the years. He does express remorse for what he's done. He even had a chance to speak to his younger self, a scenario I often pondered. He's a complicated man to say the least.
The voice acting man... this job really doesn't get the respect it deserves. Just hearing the voices is enough to give me goose bumps
Crispin Freeman as Helios is just perfect.
1:20:23 ouch dude......whoever wrote this REALLY understood how to hit home with the moments in the game long past.
Back in the day God of War was not this damn deep or introspective but looking back on it, I can only imagine how someone could really reconcile and come to terms with the decisions that were made like this.
Edit: 1:27:18 is HILARIOUS, when KRATOS of ALLLLLLL people in the Pantheon is pissed at you you've truly fucked up immeasurably.
The way sigrun , eir , gunnr sync their voices when singing ‘’layfa’’ sounded beautiful
Kratos been mad at Mimir because he said "I am not enough for her" is a true Brother Moment.
Giving Kratos the blade of Olympus is so cool
Im trying to see Mimir get handed off to Sigrun and just fly away. Kratos story was amazing but Mimir and Sigrun part 🙌❤ wish my guy could get his body again! 😢
I really don't see any reason for why they can't get Mimir a new body. Just use magic to make him a new one. Even if it's not as strong as his original god body, at least he'd be able to move and interact with things again.
Aiyo you deserve a million views and likes for this! Thank you so much. I loved the fact that SM gave us a free DLC but I was too exhausted irl to sharpen my skills for the storyline and dialogues. Afraid I'm getting too old, my gamer friends.
Thanks for putting this all together!
Great as always!
Finally beat the main part of it after beating Tyr for a third time.
Now I'm going for the epilogue of it. So fun but still hard.
Thank you sir
Mimir: "Take your time with the flute brother" *Proceeds to ask him about it at the first opportunity*
This DLC was fun and was a nice love letter to the older games
tyr is so sick, tyr kratos and mimir could have a sick adventure
and thinking about pandora, you can tell kratos was angry about knowing pandora was just used as a pawn in their war
What's more interesting to me is the concept that Kratos is a destroyer, and the fact that he finds clarity in combat, basically means that the ONLY way he would've ever found solice and acceptence was via combat
I haven't beat Valhalla yet, but this is a good reminder of everything before from where I'm at now.
1:52:07
literally the deepest and best speech ever
Tyr is indeed a good mentor for kratos
well the most importantly the same title, *God Of WAR*
and yes he does became a myth now to another, but kratos...he is the hero
in cold northern land Kratos finally make peace with himself and reborn a new. And in a foreign land instead of pantheons that used him, he found a companion, an ally, a new family and a friend, and a brother. He come along way indeed
This is the greatest Therapy Session of All Time.
Can yall imagine if they ever made gow 3? Kratos goes to another pantheon to help Atreus, and when they need help, portals open up like the endgame for Freya and her allies comes through to help? That would be badass!!
oh my god it’s the therapy dlc
Helios' VA reminds me of Pegasus from Yu-Gi-Oh! LOL
He sounds familiar - think he voiced Togusa in the Ghost in the Shell anime.
He also voice Alucard in the awesome dub version of Hellsing Ultimate
Happy they brought Crispin Freeman back to voice Helios. I was wondering why his witty trash talk/character seemed so familiar and it's because I main-ed Wizard in Diablo 3, voiced by the same guy. Basically the same character, too. To think that's Kratos' own impression of him is hilarious, given his stoic nature.
They should come out with a graphic novel detailing ALL of the Valkyries origins. Gunnr seems to be that Ride Or Die chick, she ain't going down without a fight
Layfaaaaaaaaaaa🔥
39:29 Bro, I never understood how meta this is
God of war DLC: Kratos gets therapy
Fair winds, my love~
I like how the berserker armor is canonically the strongest armor
I was glad they never fell into the trap of making Kratos and Freya a couple, but it's starting to look like they've went back on that.
Hope they go back on it. They'd make an interesting couple.
I don’t think so. The lead writers confirmed their relationship will probably never be romantic as long as they are working on it. They’re just really good partners I don’t know why that’s not enough for most people
@@themaseofspades6857 I hope you're right. I'm so sick of every male+female lead in fiction having a romance based on nothing, other than the fact they're both attractive
@@PaddyRoon7 I couldn’t agree more. Kratos and freya are essentially “the last 2 people on earth” so everybody automatically assumes they will be romantic but it doesn’t fit either of their characters. It’s a good thing that fans don’t write the story.
on the god of war wiki it says that Theseus was mentioned in the dlc but I can't seem to find that
Ngl if kratos wanted to get something done he'll probably fall down in Valhalla and somehow find himself flying out
Very interesting that they canonize that Mimir and Puck from A Midsummer Night's Dream are one and the same. Not something I'm upset with for sure, its an interesting "twist" of sorts
I hope you trip and spill your spaghetti
1:36:59 wait, Mimir been to Athens? Interesting
that's a shakespeare reference - Mimir is Puck from A Midsummer Night's Dream
Kratos mentions his brother, his wife, daughter, the freaking boat captain... But not a single mention of his mother, Callisto. Why, Kratos??
So valhalla is kratos, safe space to fight and not have to coop up feelings of wanting to fight
No mention of Deimos? Dang.
Not in Valhalla, but in the main game
One thing they never really addressed in the newer games.... Did the curse that forces Kratos to relive the horrors of his past whenever he sleeps get undone?
IIRC that curse was supposed to be as permanent as the Blades of Chaos.
It's still here I believe, but he looks less pale as he moves on and become a better person. If it is the case, than the curse could also be a symbol of his guilt, fading away as he comes to accept what he has done and grow as a better man.
The nightmares were a result of him being unable to forgive himself. With Pandora's guidance when he was in his own psyche as Zeus tried to infect him with Fear, Kratos accepted his crimes. However, here in Valhalla is where Kratos fully forgives himself and accepts what he was and what he now needs to be.
@@kwstas92 I'm pretty sure those dreams were powered by a curse/divine punishment from the Gods.... I mean, wasnt that literally one of the biggest reasons why Kratos could not forgive the Gods in GoW2?
Despite already earning the seat of a God, they still made him suffer those nightmares as "penance"?
@@KimiruLVR It wasn't really a curse, just Kratos being unable to forgive himself. Iirc, in the novels Athena wanted to remove those nightmares but Zeus thought otherwise. Anyway, the gods didn't curse him, the nightmares were a result of his personal guilt.
Thanks a lot for posting this! Had finished the main story of Valhalla, but did not want to spend my time doing countless runs to get the rest of the secret lore, but did want to know what more would happen in the story. So this video is the perfect solution :)
Glad I could help!
Wish they showed the journey from midgard to Asgard before they made it Valhalla
I don't understand, at 1:33:15 why do they mention Jörmungandr "sunning himself across the mountaintops?" If he's been sent back in time, he shouldn't be around anymore.
And also, why was the older version of Jörmungandr sent back in time?
It should have been the younger version that Atreus and Angriboða created. He would have had the time to grow to his giant size then.
Instead, the one that gets sent back is already big enough to span Midguard. The timeline doesn't make sense.
Ok this is the first time in years I'm writing a comment anywhere, but you're just wrong.
The World Serpent that got sent back in time WAS the younger version Atreus and Angrboda created. Throughout the main story she told Atreus that the snake was rapidly growing in Jotunheim and in the final battle, when the World Serpent appears, it appears from the Jotunheim tower and not from the Midgard tower, which is also mentioned by Mimir during the action.
I'm not entirely sure if they bothered using a different model for the younger one fighting in Asgard, but I do think so as he does look smaller than his counterpart in Midgard imo.
@@fusrodah6662 when Angriboða said the snake was growing, I wouldn't expect her to mean to such an extent lmao.
But regardless, after making this comment, I went through the game and wanted to see if they used a different model.
And they actually do! His beard isn't nearly as large as the Jörmungandr that stays in Midguard.
So it does actually make sense.
@@blaniac6591 She sounded so ominous saying it. So I was like "How big did it get already?" xD
Oh, that's cool. I'm glad that they took that extra step, even if it is not that visible from the distance from which we as the player see him.
Have a nice one 👋
guys ima confess, i can't take this anymore, when this dlc came out, my dumbass thought "the matter we must discussed, I am!!" i thought she wanted a baby, i swear. All the memes brainrotted my brain.
Eir's dad is an antivaxxer
BRO FUCKING ADS
When dlc is better than actually games like AC Mirage. I still hate Freya but I can see that Kratos really wants to be better. Only please not with Freya. I will never forgive her for Baldur.
This would be best without subtitles, but whatever.
It's unfortunately rare.
What about people that have a hard time hearing? Come on man. Or people Ike me who never get to see the faces close up
The irony is that most people upload with subtitles, even though we typically watch tv and movies without.
So, no subtitles is in the minority and hard to find, unlike your video.
I personally prefer no subtitles for full immersion, without distracting subtitles and no issues not having them.
In the meantime, this is fine though, even if some moments of your video lag.
Thanks for the upload, including your other GoW videos I've watched.
... I'm still watching this while I now struggle to beat the epilogue portion.
@@VideoGameSophistry Nah man you're right, subtitles are key for me. If what they want is immersion they should play it for themselves, nothing more immersive than that.
I am, but it's nice to look back through clips, you know.
Nah, subtitles are good for people who are deaf and people who learned English as a second/third language and therefore have trouble understanding what someone is saying when they start talking fast/loud and using bigger words.
Why did the player keep choosing the perks that take away perks? That makes it harder. I hate challenging myself in a game. I’ve never played a game that wasn’t on its lowest digital setting. I want to enjoy a game. Not get angry because I’m getting smacked around by every enemy I come across. Where’s the fun in that?
Did they unironically say a woman needed to "find themself"...
On some occasions I lie alone quietly on my bed and watch this before going to sleep. This free DLC is just better than thousands of dollars of therapy. Thank you so much, Santa Monica Studio 🤍♥️
