Well they spent 3 years together from GOW 2018 to GOWR. Meaning they have probably chat every single day as he does not call Mimir head anymore but instead by his name now and Mimir calls Kratos by his as well. If you really think about it Kratos didnt really have any friends in the franchise prior to this game. He was always basically going it solo and after losing his wife and daughter it broke him even more too.
Ya know...Tyr being a "Therapist" to good ol Kratos actually makes a whole lot sense than you think. It really does takes a God of War to understand another God of War.

I love that Helios was brought back to talk smack lmfao
I loved Helios for this, though honestly I would love to see Hermes for it as well. Or, in fact, I would love to see both Helios and Mimir to be placed in front of each other for a chat
One detail at the end I absolutely love is how young Kratos still has the bright red markings and ashen skin. The fading that has happened on Kratos, weather from dying magic or his healing is so great to see.
I remember thinking his skin almost looked... peachy in spots back during GoW4. Like he was returning to human after all the violence. Sometimes wasn't sure if it was intentional or not. Seeing this, yeah, Santa Monica know and LOVE the franchise.
His healing has nothing to do with it. The reason the ash is fading from his skin is most likely due to him coming into servitude as a god of war, again. But this time it's for a good cause. Redemption. Him being revered & worshipped as a good god & living up to that title plays a huge part in it. The fact that Kratos is coming into servitude & being worshipped is what signifies his redemption & that's counteracting with his curse. Kratos accepting his past sins, embracing who he is, redeeming himself, servitude, being worshipped is what the DLC was all about. Hope. That is why the ash is fading.
@@idkman8520those red tattoos are his wife and daughter ashes, he was cursed with their ashes, and the white to resemblance "ghost of sparta" gaia narrated it
Holy shit, I was not expecting the DLC to be this good. I knew there was going to be a story and some references to Greece but Santa Monica literally blew my expectations out of the water. 10/10 amazing DLC.
I fully expected it to be this good. Sony doesn’t have a history of bullshi*ing us with the DLC on their exclusives. In fact they have a history of putting out great DLC.
and how he sits changed He was arrogant, full of anxiety, full of distrust Now he sits in balance on both sides, calm with the eyes, calm, patient, and tolerance
@TheTH-camG.O.A.T Why is that insane? Media that is considered good, media that is considered bad and the in-between has always existed since the first cave paintings.
I love the dichotomy between the younger and current Kratos. Young Kratos sits on his throne with a sort of indignation, like a rebellious child who is way too in his head to take charge. He’s slumped back with his fist resting on his chin. But the current Kratos sits with a firm dedication and maturity that shows he is fully ready to take on the responsibilities that entail being the God of War.
Younger Kratos also has this permanent vitriolic scowl on him at all times, and his eyes seem to glow in the shadow a bit. Meanwhile, older Kratos's face is much more solemn and softer, with a darker tint in his eyes.
I was fully expecting to hear TC Carson! Man that would have been SO FUCKIN GOOD!! Have them Argue and have Old Kratos Tame that Rage & Pain of Old Kratos to make himself 1 and then take the Throne signifying he has officially forgiven himself and is at one with himself now and is mature and a calm reasonable person but when needed he also has that Rage but it’s more deadly as it’s now in the form to be AIMED & FOCUSED instead of being Wild and basically taking down anyone and anything in the vicinity. I think THAT would have been a beautiful moment.
@@MeowXMeowXBI7CH Yes I was expecting some type of dialogue too! I wonder why they didn't do that. Seeing older Kratos debate with his younger self about letting go would've been the perfect metaphor for his inner conflict. Such a missed opportunity

I know its a relatively small thing but I absolutely love how Tyr uses such different weapons when he fights you, first the macuahuitl, then the khopeshs, then a katana, it really shows how Tyr truly travelled the world and learned from many, which is why hes so well rounded. It's kinda telling that the two gods who eagerly sought out the knowledge of others outside their own spheres were the ones who were most.. reasonable lmao.
@@AD-lh3jk Mimir, Mimir and Tyr are two gods who (from what I remember) travelled the world (or at least left their own realms lmao) and those two are easily the friendliest of the gods
Choosing Helios as the god to come back was a stroke of genius considering his use in gow3 is what inspired mimirs role/head belt position in the new games. Absolutely fantastic writing
Because it's not trying to push a political agenda. It's just telling a good, compelling story that's been building for over a decade! Good storytelling is meant to entertain, not indoctrinate. That's the difference!
@AngiraBlu You may like the lead villain/antagonist of Clash: Artifacts of Chaos, Gemini. The setting is like a prehistoric land full of sapient monster creatures and freaks with few humans, and Gemini herself is feared throughout the game's land for just possessing a Macuahuitl. Or *the* Macuahuitl, rather. Gemini herself is a tall, monstrous multi-headed woman whose heads are slowly dying off. She enforces the One Law throughout the land, which is an important part and theme of the story. It goes that anyone can challenge one another before a physical altercation to a game of dice, called The Ritual. You offer up an Artifact, you and the opponent roll your dice on a circular leather mat divided in four quadrants, and then take turns placing modifiers that affect the dice. Often based on proximity, a circular range, or a straight line. The one with the highest score at the end wins and gets to spend their Artifact. The consequence of this can be stuff like making the opponent drink poison, be chased by bees and stung if he keeps standing still, get tethered to a small pole by a rope tied to their ankle, or be bound to a Pact Artifact and can then be summoned in a later fight through a Summon Artifact. Gemini's Prime Artifact is simple as fup. She gets a free first hit. Most Zenos, the inhabitants of the world, are quite sturdy and rarely if ever does anyone truly get killed. But the local merchant Eo explicitly states that one hit from the Macuahuitl is enough to almost kill anyone. Clash: AoC is pretty small in scale and grandeur compared to GOW, but still very much a story worth experiencing with solid gameplay. Not talking exclusively about the Ritual, which is almost fully optional, but about the 3D melee combat as well, with different combat stances and attacks to switch between. And I reckon that this importance around a Macuahuitl within a fictional setting may have made you quite happy.
After seeing the Modern Warfare DLC that people are calling “Modern Warfare 3” , this redefines what a DLC is . Just like Kratos redefined what being “God of War” is . 10/10 Valhalla . Revisiting Greece , and Kratos coming full circle seems a fitting end

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Lets not oversell this. W3 Blood and Wine redefined what Story Driven DLC was. This is just small addition, doesn't expand Kratos character that much, nor adds to the universe. I mean it is probably good if you want some more GOD of War, but you are comparing it to Modern Warfare which is really a bar set very low.

I feel like there was a missed opportunity to include his first wife and calliope in Valhalla. Kratos always felt guilt after he was tricked by Ares into killing them, and he never forgave himself for it. Much of his vengeance was fueled by their deaths
I feel they brought back Pandora because he didn´t forgive himself for her death, but he did forgive himself for calliope and his wife in the end sequence of GoW 3, so makes sense at least
@@lalitoemocion3863he forgave himself to an extent. But he told Freya in Vanaheim that "the guilt remained." For his own sake he cannot allow himself to fully forgive or forget what he's done, lest he risk letting himself become that monster again. That's why he's so hesitant to accept Freyas' offer. i felt the same honestly. im definitely guilty of much in my past that i regret, but imt rying to be a better person and more true to myself now then i was then.
I love kratos trying to fix the pain and the void inside him and when he tried to open the last door he was afraid to open it and tear tell him you were not ready to face it and in the end no matter what you fought in life your final boss is yourself I think this is the game trying to say and I'm really happy they did that
You can really grab a lot in this game, like the distinction between Kratos and us (the player) is only the magnitude and methodology of our actions, and their consequences
Egyptian, Aztec, and Japanese weaponry (Had to look it up for the first one)... add on Mimir's Celtic origins as Puck and the Irish hint from Tyr's Vault in 2018- though they may put both into one game since Scotland and Ireland are very close to each other geographically, and we got plenty of places to go in future titles
Adding that Atreus is going outside the realms to find the giants and Kratos is probably gonna need to save him. This leaves so much room to expand the framchise.
Man, they really implemented a rogue-like gamemode expertly. Having it tie-in with his past, and him going through this extreme kind of therapy, it's beautiful. I was kinda wishing that the ashes of his family were lifted, and he got his normal skin back, but it does make sense not to as the white skin and red tattoos are an iconic part of him
I fucking love the reaction everyone had to how Kratos got in the first time by just opening the door brute force with his hands. Just a combination of "...of course he did. I don't know why I expected anything different." And "Dude, you could've just asked!" Kratos, I'm glad your outlook has changed. But I'm even gladder that your methods haven't.
The DLC is good, and what can make even better is at the end where kratos can have a conversation with young kratos and even fight himself ask final boss.
I don’t think they could do justice to an Old Kratos vs Young Kratos fight in a free dlc. It would have to be a bigger battle than anything else in the Norse games.
"I guess irony can have you when it earns you, or something..." Lol, love the acknowledgment of how much the fans loved the "Death can have me when it earns me" line by the devs

A lot of great games don't make for very good game movie edits. And there are only so many obvious ones like God of War and Last of Us. I'm looking for the ones that aren't so obvious.
@@carpeimodiem Got you! Considering the caveat of time management that you describe, and thus game *movies* more specifically making a better time for you, the suggestions i could give get shortened down a bit. (Writing this as i've almost finished my comment: I've written this all from the assumption you mainly look up cutscene videos rather than gameplay videos of a full game. And be warned, the comment's a biggun) I think Clash: Artifacts of Chaos may count. It's got a similar perspective to Norse Era GoW, but is set in a prehistoric fantasy world full of sapient monsters and rarely a human in sight. Great art direction and design, well voice-acted too and really incredible music. Story's about a martial artist hermit named Pseudo, who comes to take a boy under his care after a mercenary for the local tyrant killed the Boy's grandfather. So now he tries to help the boy find a new safe home or a caretaker, but the tyrant's mercenaries are a recurring threat. (At different instances in the game, you can hear a mercenary talk about their reasonings why they do what they do, provided you don't have their attention yet). Pseudo and the Boy's story doesn't have a lot of big conversation moments like in GoW, but the moments together that they do have are good and heartening stuff. Some philosophical musings between the two as well. No Straight Roads is very good as well, being set in a world where music powers the city the game is set in and said city is divided in different districts governed by a different artist-- all of which are under employ of the main record label. Very colorful, cartoonish, characters are representations of why people make music and shows different downsides of music as an industry. It's at first shown as a Rock vs EDM type thing, but the game itself bleeds love to music as a whole. Perhaps... Soulstice. I'm placing an asterisk with that one. Soulstice is a character action/hack-and-slash type game that has a lot of cutscenes, and there's some optional dialogues with the merchant character that expand upon the world beyond what we get to see. General throughline is a "save the world/prevent calamity" type deal, but the lead protagonists are sisters of each other, with one of them being dead and the other carrying a huge boatload of baggage over it. Reason for the asterisk is that the "in-the-mind" memory segments, and aforementioned chats with the merchant (if you can find a video that included them), don't have a lot that is visually interesting going on. Otherwise, the presentation, cinematography and cutscenes are super well done, especially for being the first real *big* game by its respective dev studio. Others I would have recommended would have included the games by Ska Studios (Charlie Murder and The Dishwasher: Vampire Smile) and Cookie Cutter. But Ska Studios' games are much more focused on action than story, played well in short bursts, with in Charlie Murder's case the story being clarified through other means than cutscenes. And Cookie Cutter's not actually out yet. That one's a deliberately over-the-top, irreverent, at times edgy cyberpunk/sci-fi metroidvania about an android named Cherry on a quest to save her beloved from a perverse tyrannous maniac, set on a world surrounded by a sapient energy source. But it seems like not all cutscenes are voice acted (some side NPCs for example have no voice acting) which the dev hopes to undo with enough sales. There are some philosophical musings, such as Cherry and her companion Regina discussing what gods are and why humans have them, are based on an instance from a two-year old demo. So for all its over-the-topness it does seem like it wants to offer some food for thought as well. Even if the games mentioned here may not be up your alley, i hope there's interesting bits to them for you and that you may spread word on them. *ALSO! The Darksiders games may prove interesting in terms of game movies. Especially Darksiders 1 seems to be strong in cinematography. 2 less so, but not a bad story by any means. (main character Death in 2 has a bit more sass than War from Darksiders 1). 3 is a bit divisive, seems to be somewhere between 1 and 2 in terms of quality of their cutscenes. Does have a great scene of Fury confronting the Deadly Sin of Lust, in a way that isn't reduced to being mainly sexual desire. And there's also Darksiders Genesis. Cutscenes are more like animatics, though well-drawn and great voice acting. And each level has one more intimate conversation between the two playable Horsemen (War and Strife) about their current mission, their place in it, and how they view themselves. As those happen somewhere within the level, they're not nearly as interesting to look at. From that view, Darksiders Genesis and 2 may generally be more enjoyable for you to listen to while working, rather than making time to actually look at what happens. But i can't say for sure. Also also, the Lords of Shadow games. Yet again greatly voice acted, and 1 has each chapter introduction narrated by Patrick Stewart's character from a storybook. Cutscenes are generally good too, but the Patrick Stewart narrations may prove nicer to just have up in the background while doing something else. 2's story has no narrations, does have great voice acting and good cinematography, but the story's generally not held in nearly as high regard as 1's. I personally liked it, but there are confusing elements to it. Though yet again, like with Darksiders 3, very strong moments as well. Very big comment on my end, apologies for it taking up a lot of your time, but if you took the time to read through it all: Thank you very much for doing so. Yet again i hope the games mentioned here may at the very least prove interesting, even if they're not fully up your alley, and hope you may share word of them to people that you think may find them neat. Especially Clash: Artifacts of Chaos, Soulstice and Cookie Cutter.

Not really free, but the effort Kratos is putting into it is the sort of thing he legitimately enjoys. Just fighting and cutting loose in a relatively safe environment. That's gotta be cathartic.
Kratos has been an inspiration to me since I first saw him in “PlayStation Allstars Battle Royale” (note: all the characters have inspired me). When I first saw him, I could tell that there was something interesting about him. While he did do some terrible things, I didn’t see a monster; I saw a man with a wounded heart and a broken dream. He was consumed by anger, despair, fear, and hate; but, I always knew there was good in him. Seeing him grow into a better version of himself who protects others is amazing! Through him, I’ve learned to stop feeling sorry for myself and be a better version of myself!!😊
The change from kratos’ old throne being dawned with gold and magnificence changing to his new throne which has none of that and more humble, shows the character development well
Kratos sure went from God of War to God of Patience, how he didn't squeeze Helio's head into a pulp at first sight really shows how much he's changed and grown
Tyr the god of travels and therapy. Kratos, the god of self reflection. 😂 Kratos' lines are the most thoughtful and epic lines I've ever heard. No words were wasted. Each word perfectly capturing his heartfelt emotions. Fantastic writing and amazing delivery.
It was an absolute joy revisiting the old monsters in god of war. Even the banter with helios was fun. I wish he got to face off against the gods he had slain from olympus but this was def a very enjoyable DLC.
Cant believe how the creator of god of war doesnt like the direction of all this. He has to be mad, because this is just pure excellence. Its so great that even side characters could have their own movie. This game is on another level. Truly.
I think coming to terms with his past made this dlc one of the most heartwarming feelings ever and it finally gave a good end note to who kratos truly is. I wish they would have said the reason why he should be God of war again is because war is not his first resort anymore it is not a threat but a promise it is not tyranny but duty. Thankyou for making a character that has grown with allot of us ❤
This dlc was such a love letter to everyone who grew up with this series. Most of us were kids when we started playing this game. Now the same bunch of us have families and responsibilities of our own. It’s almost like a good chunk of us have matured with Kratos all these years. Most of the series and franchises I’ve stayed attached to started feeling worn and old but man I could eat this up forever I think.
I was expecting to see Ymir, Kvasir, Idun, Vidal, Niord, Hodr, Bragi, UlIr, Hela and especially Sinmara I guess we won't see them which this is awful how could they forget about them
This was perfect. I loved everything about this DLC. Revisiting Kratos' past and watching him grow and accept the actions of his younger self. There are many words that I would use to describe this feeling, but I think that I'll just leave it at that. P.S. - Good to know that Tyr was a tourist.
God, they just keep making this series better. I am very satisfied with this as an ending for Kratos. Also, It was unbelievably badass watching two gods of war spar using weapons from a myriad of cultures.
This was dope! Kratos finally coming to terms he is not the same guy he once was he’s grown wiser and finally understands that he is needed for the people as a beacon of hope and not their ruler
Kratos feeling genuine remorse over what he did to the Boat Captain and for everyone else on the doomed fleet is actually nice. I've always felt that the Boat Captain & passenger's deaths were just so unnecessarily cruel & nihilistic, even comparing it to the consequences of Kratos' actions in GOW3. Its good to know that Kratos truly does have a conscience and didn't just forget about the first onscreen casualties in the series.
18:06 "A symbol can't be slain, destroyed or ignored. The best measure is often to reclaim it. Redefine it. Remind us it's not the throne but the god who sits in it." That is best quote I've ever heard and the most truthful one if you think about every symbol we've seen throughout history.
I didnt even know this DLC was being made or was released.. and it was great. Apart of me would've like to see more of the Greek gods one last time but I guess that's just me.
Hades would've made sense to show up, Hades had actual, legit grievances with Kratos, regardless of context, Hades had done absolutely nothing wrong towards Kratos, but Kratos basically wrecked everything Hades cared about, all Hades was doing, even while infected with the evils of the Box, was taking revenge for all the wrongs Kratos had committed towards him.
Mimir: But you've put your past behind you. We all see it. Kratos: You don't know everything that I am Mimir: that you *WERE* Man, Mimir is that homie that just brings light in your darkest days.
Good times brings bad people. Prosperity in the lands made people selfish, hateful, arrogant. Kratos in all his wisdom chose not to control directly, like the mistakes he did in the past, but rather, try to guide and influence people to be good, to allow them to learn and be better. Thus so he sent down his son, Loki, to lead the flock to the righteous path. To teach people to turn the other cheek, to teach people not to cast the stone at others, to show magic tricks like turning water into wine or necromancy like that lazarus guy idk.
This feels like a dream come true for me. I had always hoped they would cover Kratos old past and go more in depth into how he feels about what he did, and how his friends would react. The fact they go into so much detail for all the old characters, finally answering questions I wanted current Kratos to answer. It's great!
19:39 "Hello Helios" Kratos said calmly But for real though Helios did that to himself, imagine owing Kratos and he would be willing to spare him if he just pointed him in the right direction, but instead tried to trick him lol
Was kind of hoping that we’d get a voice cameo from the OG VA of Kratos at the moment he saw himself. A simple few words if not a full conversation, but this is good too. 😊
God it would of been so cool if they got the old voice actor of Kratos to come back for that one scene to talk to himself, it would of been so cool to see the Banter between younger and older Kratos
I watched the GOW and GOW:R game movies from here, and seeing this one is just as good as those were. Christopher Judge gives Kratos so much depth, so much soul, emotion, even with things as simple as an affirming grunt or his speech there at the end of Valhalla...There's raw feeling in everything said and done. He did Kratos justice.
He didn't just do Kratos justice. He and the scriptwriters gave us the perfect quintessential Kratos. Still who he always was, but now with wisdom of experience and loved ones around him to help him not sink into his former depths.
Recreating the Sacrifice of Poseidon in the new GOW engine is just beautiful, and having Crispin "Alucard" Freeman be the constantly yammering captive in the cage is just the most delicious touch!
I feel the lesson here is self-forgiveness. I don't know a thing about therapy as the next guy. But I feel the catalyst of using the Title of God of War (and the personification via the Throne) helps to visualize the process of self-forgiveness. Where no matter how heinous, or cruel, or terrible things you did. People you betrayed. Things you regret. Feeling bad and realising it is the first step. But truly coming to terms that you were who you were. And albeit hesitant, are still willing to again pick up the Title, sit on the Throne, learning to love, and just being kinder to yourself for your own flaws... Is the process of self-forgiveness. And it is beautifully portrayed in Kratos.
Damn, a really well done DLC. Though I really wish they added Pandora as substitute for Atreus. I would say that Kratos's therapy would go on alot smoother had she appeared with him, kinda like a contrast with Helios condemning him....Then again I imagine were that to be the case, he'll probably grabbed her and just hightailed out of there, general be damn. If she could make young Kratos go "find another way" to kill dear old dad. Old Kratos would dote on her so much Atreus would question his own legitimacy. And instead of Magni and Modi (kinda lame tbh), they could've added Heracles, Hades, Poseidon or even Zeus himself and just when he's about kill them, they changed into Athena taunting him (Pandora would be a GREAT help in this case)
Helios is interesting because while he's echoing Kratos own doubts about himself, he's also voicing most of the common criticisms of Kratos as a character in the original series. he's there to help contrast how Kratos has always been more complicated than people think even if not exactly justifiable in his actions and choices.
Should be 4K soon!

Kratos got in the same way a D&D Barbarian would. Forcing the door open.
It’d be funny if vox machina was able to open the door with no problems.
One detail at the end I absolutely love is how young Kratos still has the bright red markings and ashen skin. The fading that has happened on Kratos, weather from dying magic or his healing is so great to see.
It’s his healing, Kratos is still going strong
Those red markings r tattoos he had gotten to resemble his brother's markings... Tattoos fade over time... but yea good observation

Did you forget what made him that way. The way you talk makes seem as so.
Not of war...
Of Hope, Rebirth.

You also missed the Aztec macuahuitl he pulls out.
I would shit bricks if they make a new God of war with new characters in different cultures.

(Writing this as i've almost finished my comment: I've written this all from the assumption you mainly look up cutscene videos rather than gameplay videos of a full game. And be warned, the comment's a biggun)
I think Clash: Artifacts of Chaos may count.

So... a God of Hope. Shown as an old man, strong still. With fading scars of old battles and chains. I like it. Has a certain poetry to it.
Honestly this DLC was great and really helps tie everything together within the whole series. It’s fantastic to see Kratos grow as a character

That is best quote I've ever heard and the most truthful one if you think about every symbol we've seen throughout history.
I didnt even know this DLC was being made or was released.. and it was great.
Apart of me would've like to see more of the Greek gods one last time but I guess that's just me.
I’m glad just to see one. Just any OTHER one.
@@finalfaw I agree 100% no mention about demos or calliope out of all to show up it should have been hades,Zeus or even Hephaestus.
39:34 Tyr showing he too is a God Of War is soo badass😮
Mimir: But you've put your past behind you. We all see it.
Kratos: You don't know everything that I am
Mimir: that you *WERE*
Man, Mimir is that homie that just brings light in your darkest days.
It's great!
What weapon should tyr use from the Celtic lands, sword, axe, spear.
Literally the best channel. Doesn’t leave their terrible logo in the corner the entire movie. LOVE YOU GUYS
19:39 "Hello Helios" Kratos said calmly
But for real though Helios did that to himself, imagine owing Kratos and he would be willing to spare him if he just pointed him in the right direction, but instead tried to trick him lol
Mimir: *"So this tall amazon woman loves the fact that I'm a short king, but I couldn't get over the fact that I am short."*
Was kind of hoping that we’d get a voice cameo from the OG VA of Kratos at the moment he saw himself. A simple few words if not a full conversation, but this is good too. 😊
the og va passed i think
@@halalmemesdaily AW WHAT?! 😨🤯 No way! 😣😔
@@KJetixsSuccessor my bad
@@halalmemesdaily It’s ok 😓. Better to have known.
@@KJetixsSuccessor don't worry, he's not dead
God it would of been so cool if they got the old voice actor of Kratos to come back for that one scene to talk to himself, it would of been so cool to see the Banter between younger and older Kratos
It wouldn't work, there's nothing would old kratos say make any sense in him.
Hope is what keeps us alive. But hope alone is not sufficient. We must take responsibility for our actions. This game has taught me a lesson.
Tyr busting out what appears to be a two-handed divine macuahuitl was just AWESOME.
Wish they'd had a conversation - young & older kratos. Both with their respective voice actors
That ending was awesome man, how can you not love Kratos 🥲
really hope there is an alternate cutscene if you beat it on the first run
