  • Good ‘ol Route 66 runs straight through part of the Painted Desert Ranch. Join us as we drive the cows on the historic road and into a fresh pasture. We also tease a few mares and finish the day riding a few horses.
    Using horses: Easy, Valentine, Jag, Six, & Mighty Eagle.

    Wow, I always wanted to visit Arizona, only at a ranch, since I am a cowgirl myself, I am a retired Barrel Racer and love Painted Deserts Breeding program. Your ranch has some fine
    horses and babies, makes me wish I was young again and live that life!!! Our ranches are
    in Osage County in Oklahoma, not wide spread like yours, lots of country at your spot, really nice. I am Osage Native American, grew up ranching and training barrel horses. I am so much enjoying watching your video's!

    My wife and I enjoy all the ranching business you take care of. We're on a ranch in Montana, and it's interesting to see what we do similarly and what's different. It's been in the mid-90's temp.-wise here lately, so we feel like we're in New Mexico right along with you guys! I enjoy seeing your branding works, tack, feeding styles and horse handling. Yep, please keep the every-day ranch work and life coming. Thanks.

    OMG this video has been overwhelming and so joyful and fulfilling all at the same time I don't even know where to begin. Mama it's Angie from Ohio again thoroughly thoroughly enjoying this video I believe this is the very very very best video you have ever made. A really really good cook and I can so that's what I have to offer but also I am a very hard worker so here in Ohio the Mellow horse that I would need we refer to as a deadhead and that means a super mellow horse maybe you guys have the same reference out there. Of course I'm totally joking I have a great life here in Ohio but wow am I envious to watch your videos I so love them but this one has been the creme-de-la-creme of videos Jasper well what do I need to say I'm waiting in anticipation for his new big horse for him to get so does that horse come from you guys as a gift or does his papa already have a horse for him in mind. I really enjoyed the old school way of figuring out if a mare is ready to breed everybody else does all this science and everything behind it and I enjoyed your way better and I'm pretty sure you guys know the lock down method on that but once again I'm going to get off of here and thank you thank you and thank you for your videos I wish I was there I would love to help out me and my old deadhead horse that was mellow I would be right there with you. A pony the size Jasper is riding should only carry 80-90 pounds MAX. In fact a pony that small should be carrying less. Not cool. Other than that nice video. Get the kid a bigger horse. It’s not cute him being on that little Shetland. And man I hope it’s a Shetland. If it’s a mini even worse.

    • @PaintedDesertRanch
      @PaintedDesertRanch  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We are not trying to be cute putting an 8 yr old on Mighty Eagle. Jasper just started riding this year, he is 8 yrs old, and that pony has helped him tremendously with his confidence in riding a horse.

    • @PaintedDesertRanch
      @PaintedDesertRanch  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      He can saddle and get on Mighty Eagle all by himself, and as you can see we ride huge pastures, if for some reason we have to go get a cow several feet away we can leave Jasper and Mighty Eagle and not be afraid of him falling off and hurting himself. Maybe if you watch our more current videos you can see Jasper getting his bigger “more appropriate” horse according to you- the pony & Jasper expert.

    • @texanlady4
      @texanlady4 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PaintedDesertRanch it’s nice that it has helped him, but in the video you stated that ride was hours long. That is not good for a pony that small to carry that amount of weight over that kind of terrain for that many hours. With the weight of all that boy’s tack and him it’s just too much for that small a pony. It will give that pony back problems. It can’t all be about how it makes your son feel. The long term health and welfare of your animals needs to be a consideration. By all means teach your son how to ride on a pony that size. Brief lessons. But hours long trail rides in full tack? Wayyyyy too much weight for that pony for that long a ride. I repeat, get the boy a larger pony. Like a Welsh. Still small, but large enough to carry his weight easily without endangering the pony’s back.

    • @PaintedDesertRanch
      @PaintedDesertRanch  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      What makes you think we are his parents? We are not.

    • @texanlady4
      @texanlady4 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I never claimed to be an expert on anything. But anyone who has ever ridden knows about weight limits for horses. It’s one of the bare basics of horsemanship. What is an acceptable load for your mount to carry is something every rider should be considering.
