The damage was already unrecoverable when they decided to make the Epic store switch. I'm sure their accountants made the calculations before Epic paid them whatever exclusivity fee they asked for, but I've got to wonder if they're second guessing the decision after the insane shitstorm they've caused.
Doubt it. No one can predict sgit storms lie this. Right now. From the reactions i've seen many will either wait the year, buy on console or refuse to buy the game at all. You're in your right to be pissed, but if you use that as an excuse to legitimate piracy, and not have to pay or support the devs then you are not really bothered, you were just looking for an excuse.

Shame too because the game looked really good. Too bad it got caught in a shit storm of marketing and media intrigue
This uproar wouldn't even exist if they didn't have it in the steam store for pre-order for about 50 trillion years, I feel like that there was their biggest mistake.
As much as I hate it, it's not going to happen. Deep Silver and Koch Media already signed a contract. Maybe if the game bombs they MIGHT be able to put it back to Steam before a year of exclusivity but who knows.
Don't worry about Deep Silver, they already received a large sum of money from Epic in order to do that. Large enough to make them think that they can afford severely lower sales and the backlash too. Nobody is that stupid otherwise.
Dodged a bullet when I decided not to buy Fallout 76 because it was not on Steam. I'm sticking to Steam releases only now. Other game launchers are not as professional when it comes to refunding shit products or allowing blatant honest user reviews. Most don't even have 80% of the features Steam does.
You sir are precious. Steam user reviews are the only reviews you will ever need. It says overwhelmingly positive, buy it. It says mostly negative, dodge it. Average opionion of thousands of other gamers will never dissapoint you
Maybe but the devs are clearly hurting. People dont become game devs because its easy money, they want to make something enjoyable and to see all this happen close to release... cant be a good feeling
I think the greatest offender here is Epic Store for even coming up with such a disgusting scheme in the first place. Sure Koch Media, the greedy bastards, took the paycheck, but it was Epic Store offering it, thinking about grabbing that coveted game as exclusive. Wait a year, buy it on console. Maybe don't even buy it at all. But don't support Epic Store. We don't need a competitor to Steam that employs dirty tactics like that (not to mention it being unsecure, with shoddy policies, pro-corporate anti-consumer and possibly selling data to Chinese).
This will not be their last exclusive if people reward them with sweet greenbacks for their games. If commmunity wants to have competitive companies thrive instead of shitty ones, they ned to check where they're spending. Without sacrificing some good games in the progress, we won't get ethical business practice to return to pc gaming.
StarlightFromAbyss Deep Silver and Koch are just as responsible if not more then Epic. They accepted the deal. We shouldn’t let them get away with this anti consumerism they did to get a quick buck from Epic.
I'd actually blame Deep Silver more... it's hard to fault Epic for trying this tactic, I don't agree with it but they need to fill their store and they want to lead people away from Steam, so they got kind of aggressive about it. Deep Silver on the other hand just wanted some quick money, and basically bent over backwards to please Epic, thinking it was some kind of marvelous deal, not caring about the millions of people they were basically cutting off from the game, and likely destroying the projected sales in the process. The mass market isn't even *aware* of the Epic store at this point so I don't know wtf Deep Silver was thinking when they yanked the game from Steam... yes it's easy for players to go download the Epic store and buy the game there, *if they are aware of the game and the store to begin with* , which is not the case for a lot of people. They basically ensured Metro will continue to be a more niche title, when this was the greatest chance the series had at breaking into the mainstream like Fallout or something... but I guess they're happy about the instant paycheque..?

Well, I hate to tell you, Epic, but I have plenty of games to play that do not require the use of your store, I can wait.
You know you don’t have to go all in on a launcher? It’s an inconvenience to the player but as a dev it means MILLIONS of dollars. People accept exclusives on consoles but for pc games to do this is heresy?
@@jaybosher6144 I know that consoles have exclusives as well, and I do not agree with them being there either. What I really dislike though is how Epic knew what features that Steam had, and that the community likes them, yet still pushed the app out. Now that people know that it is lacking in features, the only way that they can compete is with exclusivity. If Epic had held out a little longer, and put those features in their store, then people would not have had such an issue with it. Also, there is only a loud outcry against Metro Exodus, and not Division 2...why? Because they announced from the beginning that it would be on the Epic Store only. If the publishers of Metro had done that as well, instead of switching now, they would not be receiving this much criticism.
Ok you lot should explain to me why Sony or Ninty release their exclusives on any other platform but theirs. Those games give us the consumers a reason to buy their systems. Exclusives on pc that's other matter entirely.
Reisbig2009 I agree with the criticism with epics store and it’s short comings but people are taking out their anger with epics fails on metro. Are steam reviews really the way people get their ratings from? I know I’m not alone watching TH-cam reviews, which epic has no part in, and I judge the opinions of several and the gameplay I see and decide if it’s for me. There is such a thing as reviews bombing and it is a valid point for devs to fear. I still think a review board should be put up but from what I’m seeing is consumers mad about downloading a launcher which can allow the game dev to spend more money on making a better game. Why isnt there any rage for steam charging devs 30% percent cuts? Why don’t they drop their fee so game devs don’t have a reason to leave?
I feel bad for the game, like seriously Metro is a fantastic franchise and i've became their fan since the first installment even love reading the books and hope everyone experience it at least once in their life, but the controversy happen surrounding it is totally a shame and should be dodged since the first time, because this is the result and what happen when a company try to fight back their consumers, no matter you like it or not and how you see it consumers/customers are always the king in any business industry, if you say no or throwing back against them or even worse: threatening them because their opinions then say goodbye to your money and profit, whether you like or don't like their action, you must always in situation where you have to keep your cool and try to not anger them more and try giving what they want. That's why it's so sad and really shame because it's almost for sure that metro exodus sales is going to flop on pc because of this controversy especially since it exactly happened weeks before it's released date, but at least the publisher can take a note from this to learn it was a big mistake since beginning..
ill buy it, next year when its back on steam. if its good and i can bother play it after i most likely have got it all spoiled one way or another.. its shame.
Its to risky having your information on multiple launchers, just look what happened with EA. One is enough and really anoying having multiple launchers updates, just unesesery.
The one good thing that might come out of this is that other Devs/Publishers might think twice about signing these stupid exclusive deals with Epic now (which was the issue to begin with and still is). I get why they decided to take Epics offer at first, at first glance it seems like free money, but they severly underestimated the backlash from that decision and it definitly sucks for 4A games and the Metro series which is fantastic. But sadly you can't support the Devteam without supporting the Publisher that made that stupid decision and Epic who offered this. So I will skip on that game (sadly, I was really looking forward to it) but I'd rather give up on Metro then having more and more of this shit on PC. Paid exclusivity is the worst. End of Story. And if boycotting this great game means that we might have less of this shit in the future I am willing to take that risk.
I'm not boycotting Metro and I have Epic installed but I'm not buying anything on Epic after this for a while. I will buy Metro when it comes to steam. Sadly I was looking forward to getting Journey and Super Meat Boy Forever on Epic but that's no longer happening.

Metro Exodus...not Last Light. That and just about EVERY game these days has Denuvo, and only a very small portion of the gaming community refuse to (or at least claim to) buy a game with Denuvo. Given how well these games are still selling tells me there are more gamers that don't really care than there are those that do.
@@alexubel There are less than 40 games since JAN 2018 with Denuvo. Since 2014, it has been in 119 games. That is hardly every game or even most AAA games. And the reason to worry about Denuvo for this kind of game is the performance issues. I don't think Denuvo harms Life Is Strange gameplay so no harm done... but the lag caused by it in FPS and fast paced games ( Cough Tekken 7 Cough) can lead to frame rate drops.

Let's be honest, saying this is a monopoly is being a little bit hypocrite... Steam has a lot of games that are only sellable there, exclusive games on certain consoles it's the same... The reason people are mad is because they don't like epic store, they don't have many features steam has. I wish people would stop calling the response from Deep Silver an apology. It was NOTHING of the sort. It was an explanation, and a request. It was well-worded, but it wasn't an apology and should never be treated as though it were. This was a publisher attempting damage control, nothing more.

I'm pretty sure Epic will sell data to chinese since 10cent own 40% of the dang company. And 10cent is notorious for doing such dirty thing

I would much rather see actual competition between Steam and Epic. Here they are actually driving people away from them, because they are strong arming the community to go to the Epic Games Store if they want to play the game on day one. Well, I hate to tell you, Epic, but I have plenty of games to play that do not require the use of your store, I can wait.
You know you don’t have to go all in on a launcher? It’s an inconvenience to the player but as a dev it means MILLIONS of dollars. People accept exclusives on consoles but for pc games to do this is heresy?
jay bosher because PC gamers are against anti consumerism more than console gamers. Paid online is a prime example of that.

I feel cheated I was expecting double the pencils and memes now.
I'm not boycotting Metro and I have Epic installed but I'm not buying anything on Epic after this for a while. I will buy Metro when it comes to steam.
Sadly I was looking forward to getting Journey and Super Meat Boy Forever on Epic but that's no longer happening.
Wow you guys upload a lot more than I expected! Love the channel!
Might have to pick up a sweatshirt next paycheck😏
It's a nice nonpology but I think the damage was done.
Let us just supporting this time only this time
Your videos are so good I smile and laugh through every minute of them! My friends and I LOVE IT 😆
Yay "Thick Boy Lite" is back.
Ralphy boi, so glad you're back :D
slight correction, they - ( we don't even know is that tweet 4AGames') 4A Games never apologized, just corporate brouhaha that vodka philosopher does not represent whole game and please don't harass developers "more"
Welcome back, Ralph. And congrats on that Brazzers contract, gj gj.
Also, the studio confirmed Metro Last Light will be released with Denuvo... so they REALLY don't want people to buy this game at launch.
EDIT: Exodus... I misspoke and was corrected.

Good one mate
Professionalism. That was the word you were thinking of. He didn’t conduct himself with professionalism.
Why would I buy game on a, at the moment, shitty platform? Plus! Price is the same as on Steam for Europeans. Maybe is gain for Koch Media to have games on Epic, but non for me.
This was only ever going to be a game/series I'd get into with a flash sale on Steam- guess I'll be waiting more than a year for it to be on Steam as well as on sale
Sure, I can forgive the threats, but still not buying Metro. No steam - no buy.
@The Legend of Texas gtfo you moron
Oh my gosh that car bit was hilarious.
Considering I’ve bought the Metro 2033 & Last Light 7 times so far, all digital, I’m going out on a limb to say that aim a fan of the Metro. That being said, fuck this dev’s response. Cultural differences & language differences aside, he/she doesn’t understand the discontent’s origin. Exodus could be the best game I ever played, but I refuse to pay for it until both Deep Silver & 4A address the blatant issue.
I am a huge fan of Metro games just like you
I know it's very hard to support them after what that developer says
I think I will give them a second chance only this time
You don’t make friends with salads!
You don’t make friends with salads!
(Keeps Congo line going)
I dont care about Metro... at all. Im sure its a great game.... However... what I do care about is publishers creating monopolies... That my friends is not very consumer friendly. So dude says, "Why should I care about you???" I say.... Why should they be any different than any other crap publisher? There is ZERO benefit to the consumer on "exclusivity"... absolutely zero.
Let's be honest, saying this is a monopoly is being a little bit hypocrite... Steam has a lot of games that are only sellable there, exclusive games on certain consoles it's the same...
The reason people are mad is because they don't like epic store, they don't have many features steam has. And yes, epic getting some exclusive is better for the consumer, because that will force steam to up the platform and try to get exclusive things too...
@@MaxinRudy Steam never forces developers or publishers to make their titles steam exclusive. They are not found anywhere but steam because there is not anywhere else.
@@MaxinRudy OK let me tell you it this way : If a movie is only streamable on netflix becasue there is only netflix that doesn't make that movie a netflix exclusive. If a movie is only streamable on netflix although there are many more streaming platforms, but netflix fobrids ist, that makes that movie a netflix exlusive.
No developer is forbidden to sell their games on other platforms at the same time with steam. But Epic Store does exactly that.
Who tries to become a monopoly here?
I wish the best for the devs and I really hope they continue their work because we all do appreciate it, but this pr mess is just burying them.
I hope the game can push through this mess
You know what we can boycott without hurting a good game? The division 2. It's also an epic games store exclusive.
Also releasing on Uplay. And Ubisoft didn't really do anything to cause a boycott.
I am not getting Division 2 either.
it will still be on uplay, so no gamechanger for me, i will still be ignoring epic useless launcher, and i have ubi anyway (FC series, AC series...), i have no problem buying game on other launchers that are here for long time, but why the hell should i be forced to install another one? So, welcome division 2, good bye metro, see ya in a year
Yeah no.
I never skip ads when I watch not even when I’m on the toilet
I'm still getting the game on Xbox so...
Xbox Master race
unknown glitch fuck off there is no master race
"Don't boycott the entire product because of this one dude."
100% agreed. I'll be boycotting the product until it's released on steam, not because of this one dude, but because Epic and Deepsilver cut a deal that was textbook anti-consumer.
Epic isn't trying to compete by delivering a superior product, they are trying to compete by locking the rest of the market out of someone else's IP. Until the deal they cut expires, or the Epic launcher itself becomes a real contender, I'll be keeping my money. Which is a shame, because I too think the Metro franchise is a criminally underappreciated series and I really really REALLY want to play Exodus.
