The E46 CSL w/ manual gear box (yes, they exist). Regular E46 & the M2CS are my top 3 favorite M3ish cars... I dig the E30 & it's history of racing along with it's origins but... Yes please, I'll have 100hp more w/ my E46. I wish BMW would just stroke & bore the straight six to a 4.2L (like Porsche & their flat 6 4.0L). Might make for an interesting power plant for M car enthusiasts. Smaller body, lightweight (carbon) body panels & a high revving NA 6cyl. The current G8* might drive great but it weighs 2 tons. The 718 GT4 weighs 2900lbs.
Lots of incorrect info here about F80/82. It was actually the only new M3 to lose weight over its predecessor as it weighed less the E90/92. It also featured extensive use of Carbon Fiber(CFRP) for roof, driveshaft, front strut bar, trunk(M4). It also had extensive cooling that made it truly capable for tracking. The standard brakes and optional CCBs were much better than previous M3s and better than the silly rear floating caliper featured on new G80/82. The engineering put into the F80/82 by Albert Biermann and his team was very impressive, thats why its one of the most reliable M cars and can handle so much more power once tuned. The M2 is smaller in size but does NOT weigh less and doesn't have many of the features of M3/4. The driving position alone is enough to not choose it.
F8x platforms is no were near a G8x platform which destroys the F8x platform looks in & out plus speed. I would skip the F8x unless it’s a CS or GTS based on price and value only BUT would prefer the E9x platform and G8x platforms only. Why? you get the best sounding V8 engine and the more upgraded platfrom with the G8x. A regular competition executive package F8x unless it’s a indivdual color is pretty much the worst option but I would rather have the regular F8x over any E46 m3.
Love my e46 m3 Cabriolet. It’s a 15 year old car - and it’s still quick! The looks are timeless. While the newer cars are also good - who knows how we will feel about them in 20 years. The Cabrio is not as stiff as the Coupe, but driving it like an old man on a nice day is amazing, and always will be - long after it’s tech has been outclassed. It’s a classic. We drive from my home in Munich to the Italian lakes all summer and enjoy it immensely. It catches eyes today, and it will in 30 years as well!
Great video! I have to say the E-92 M3 is the best M car. And the S65…wow what an engine! I think it’s BMW’s best engine of all time. There is a reason why the S65 won international engine of the year 4 years in a row. I think they are going to be future classics, just going up in price. Such a thrill to rev out.
The E46 is the best looking M3 (imo) but it's also the most well balanced and most beautifully designed both exterior/interior. I honestly think in 20-30 years, these cars will be even more highly sought after.

Enjoyed the video. I have been lucky to say I have driven e36/46/9x and f80 all multiple times. The e9x is the most special feeling. The v8 just dominates the experience. Felt the most special and more Motorsport than all its predecessors.
I’ve driven them all too they all have pro’s and con’s for me I’ve kept the e46 , but it’s good different gen have been made for competition purposes . The e92 felt abig big but race engine , the f80 snappy steering and sound I didn’t like but acceleration oh and them competition pack alloys amazing , the e46 always felt abit underpowered but I like that (now) . It depends what purpose , I wonder in another 20 years how people’s feelings will change . If I lived in the states I’d defo be saying the e92 was the one for me lol price of gas and bigger roads need that big 4.0 . U.K. winding tight backroads/country roads I just love my e46 even at low speeds the car feels more compared to the rest .
In my opinion the f80 has been the best M3. The creature comforts in the f80 make it a perfect car for a road trip or rip it on the track. But my 03 e46 is my favorite all around BMW in my personal collection
My only BMW has been my 2004 E46 M3 with 6 speed. Fact is, I wanted the ragtop because I had driven/ owned 9 minivans raising my family. I needed something "just for me". So, mine in Carbon Black with tan seats still makes me very happy to own. I have had wonderful reliability and when I replace tires, it is like I am getting a new car, type feeling. I really don't have a context on the other models, I just lucked out buying mine and have always been satisfied with this car. I was going to add an M5 to my garage, but my mechanic for my M3 is not recommending that car. So, if I add another M to my garage it will either be an M2 or M3, newer model. The fun part is going to soon come, testing them and then deciding. Thank you for this video, I really enjoyed the history and model details you revealed. Cheers to E46 M3's everywhere!
I've owned (1) E46 M3, (2) E9X M3s and (1) F80 M3. For me it's hands down the E9X M3s all day everyday. The steering, the handling, the power, the sound the glorious sound and the overall feel is just right for me. I love them all though. Great video. Thanks.
I came into the car world 7 years ago with 2 cars from 2 games. The R34 GTR from the NFS UNDERGROUND & The M3 GTR NFS MOST WANTED 2005. Love those legends❤️
I've had an E30, 3 E36's, and E46 and my current E92. The E92 is the keeper, with the last true racing derived motorsport engine. None other than Steve Dinan said the S65 V-8 was the very best engine BMW has ever made on Matt Farah's podcast two weeks ago, and that guy knows his engines.
I own E46 and E90. The reason most people love the latter is because of its V8, however, the lack of torque and weight gain don’t make this feel like a step up vs E46. I love M cars but C63 AMG of this gen did the best V8!
F80 is the most reliable M car I have ever owned. By far! E46 M3 ZCP (I had the legend and sold it) and E60 V10 both needed new engines due to mfg defects. Those special one off engines ain’t cheap to replace. F80 gets too much hate, it feels and drives great. F80 is easy to tune unlike the older NA cars. And M2 doesn’t weigh less. It’s the M2 wheelbase that makes it extra fun. F80 issue is exhaust sound (not the amazing NA engine anymore) and lack of steering feel, but it’s better in every other way including handling (for best results: 2018 ZCP model with Cup2s)
@@Rumblefan i would be looking for my dream spec, ones near me are beat. if i get one i’m gonna get one that’s been taken care of which is out of my price range
@@jaminjared yeah clean examples are pretty pricey. E36 is still the only generation M3 I’ve been able to find regularly for cheap money, like under $10k even, but of course, they’re usually beat on.
I have driven almost all the M3s going right back to the 80s. Very hard to go past the E46, preferably 2003 onwards. Beautiful balanced twist hugging delight. I don't mind the SMG either. You just have to drive it the way it was intended back then.
I love my f80 and all the other M cars that came out. Moving up from two e36’s and a Mini Cooper an M car is an M car they just got more power over the years that’s how I see it. Also my f80 is manual sport + all the time. So I’m doing the driving. Nice video tho
Here's a hot take.. I genuinely think M cars have gotten better in every possible way over each generation. Every iteration is like an evolution to the previous in some way. I've driven an e36, e46, e92, and f82..I own an e92 but I can tell you I'm in love with the f82.
Yep, I’ve driven my e46 M3 for 14 years. I never upgraded because nothing felt like an upgrade. It’s so agile & the gearbox is great. Newer cars feel bloated & big.
@@clu4u yeah, Porsche is still pretty sporty. The M3, M4, C63, RCF, RS5 etc.. are all pretty big & heavy these days. Maybe I should go for a 911 or M2.
This is why I think the 128i is a good modern replacement for the e30 and e36. They're about the same size an horsepower. And its naturally aspirated. The prices are great now on a 128i. These will increase in price.
I've had two E46 M3s, both were regularly tracked. I absolutely loved both of them. Then, I bought an E92 M3 and realized what I had been missing all those years by holding on to the E46 so long. The E92 M3 is an absolute monster compared to the E46 and it will typically run 6-8 seconds faster laps at the road course. I don't miss my E46 M3 at all, except for its curb appeal.
I'd never forget seeing E36 M3 drakkar yellow. Back in late 90s .. always wanted one. I owned e46 m3 for 4 years and f82 m4. All special ... I think one day maybe I should own all 3... E36 46 and f80
E46 with the smg gear box is when M division raised the bar for me , loved the high revving naturally aspirated engine on that car , it made the previous models look weak compared to it .
Man... E46 M3 is my dream car, timeless body, cheap but good quality German, that power and sound really lovely. I have an E46 sedan 318i and that was nice daily car (sedan 2000s)+the interior of E46 is clean, better that E92&E36 dashboard, I love E46 so much
I believe so. Wasn't actually branded as an "M5" but had all the M badges and had the same 5.7L v8 with 6 speed manual. I think they just rebranded the m sport to m5 a year or 2 later but I could be wrong
There are a ton of e9x cars out there, so I think a lot of people don’t like the e9x M3 models because they are not unique enough, but I have the e90 M3 6MT and added a VF SC. Perfect car. Can’t beat the V8 sound.
I have the e36 m 345 ( euro spec) I also have a e39 540. They are so different from each other, I love them both. That said, for the the driver interaction experience, the e36 ftw.
I own a 2020 M4 Convertible, a bit too heavy for tracking but a fun daily. I recently purchased a 2021 X4M Competition with is an absolute beast.Yes, it has the 503 HP S58 engine that the new M3 and M4 Comps have.
I own an e92 manual with sunroof and iDrive, it's really cool. I drove once a e46 SMGII and felt really good but it was like 18 years ago when that car was brutal... but what I really want a new M3 Comp Xdrive so I can have the best of the 2 worlds. To me, the e92 is a better looking car than the e46... thank you so much for your video!
Had an 85 325, coup it was a factory package car and came standard with koni shocks and body kit in limited numbers. Sold it 20 years ago, They are worth a fortune now.
I like the E36 M3 looks better than the standard E46 , that looked soft to me , the CSL version on the other hand is something else absolutely stunning and looks way more muscular.
I had an e46 I miss it and regret that I sold it. Despite it being a RWD si drove better in the snow than any other car out there. The balance was impecable
I am on team E36. Something about those hard lines, I personally find it to be the best looking of the bunch. Sure it is underpowered comparing it to all future generations but it is still so much fun to drive.
I have e90 330i with n52b30 M/T 254bhp (euro model) and I think it's the best car I had from what I can get for under 5k. No I-drive system, no fancy things, just solid driving mashine and it feels so good.
Nice story. You lost me at the E46 ZHP is a detuned M3. Uh, no. Not even close. Anyway, appreciate you like the e46 M3. Not the best M3 tho. I’ve owned 4, including a purpose built road race version that I completed in. Lovely car. But I’ve also owned every M3 made except the newest one. My daily is an 2018 M3 CS. Easily the best overall M3 I’ve driven. Hands down. Even better than my e36 and r46 race cars. Yes it has its faults (just like all M3s) and it’s bigger. But at the limit, it doesn’t t feel like it at all. Blows every other M3 away (have yet to drive the new one tho).
Great video but I've owned both e46 m3 and f80 m3 both Awsum cars but f80 wins hands down in all aspects brilliant to drive on track and day to day tech in that beast is unreal brilliant engineering and they took a lot of that away on the G80 like carbon fiber tail shaft and also the engine bay on the G80 could have been finished a lot nicer f80 engine bay work of art close 2nd e46 best sounding e90 i would still love all the m3's in my garage still great video thumbs up👍💙
The things is that not all of us are looking for a more comfortable and refine ride, that’s why the e30 is my favorite is the more raw experience between all of them
YES!!!!! Im partial to the e36 chassis, but I daily an e46 323ci! Don't be scared that its not the 3.0 guys! 2.5 M52 handles boost better and also sounds way different (deeper, and higher pitched over 4000, similar to like a sport bike or something rather than the crazy rasp with a 3.0) It's honestly not worth spending the extra few thousand for a 330, as you are only about 35hp shy with the 323, and for about $1000 you can make 325WHP easily with some simple mods and a tune!!!!!
e46 m3 all day long. Prices are going up but still relatively affordable considering how amazing the car is. In a few more years time, people will regret they didn't buy one because they will sky rocket.
Yes, the f87 is the best f generation M and more true to the M3 history. Production just ended for the M2 Comp so I don’t think we will see prices drop until the G87 comes out.
The E30 M3 was a racecar made on the track then sold the public becuase of the homologation rule whilst the rest were fast production cars put on a track to race. Looks like the orignal becuase of this will always be the most special.

Then get exactly that, I wanna s54 swap my prefacelft 330i e46
I have the e36 m 345 ( euro spec) I also have a e39 540. They are so different from each other, I love them both. That said, for the the driver interaction experience, the e36 ftw.
Yep, for the few who know the difference!
i've owned an e46 M3 and a e92M3......preferred the e92......especially after SCing it
I own a 2020 M4 Convertible, a bit too heavy for tracking but a fun daily. I recently purchased a 2021 X4M Competition with is an absolute beast.Yes, it has the 503 HP S58 engine that the new M3 and M4 Comps have.
I love the look of all the m3s, but I would say the f8x and e9x look the best
You’re soooooo correct. I’ve made this exact explanation to everyone I know. I have an e90. Naturally aspirated is true M performance.
Can’t wait to get my hands on either a E46 or E92
You won’t regret it mate🔥
I love the F80's and WANT a G80 but my favourite is e36 Light weight and the e92 base model
Always enjoy your videos ! Keep up the good work man!
G80, I bought and love it in and out. Amazing car.
It’s a great car for the blind
It really is amazing. I love it and i am not blind
My STI says otherwise. But the E46 is def a gold bar car for sure. Ive actually thought of selling my STI for one
E46 4Lyfers
E46 M3 GTR "V8 & Looks and Design" Best Looking M3 (at least in my eyes)... Absolutely love those Bad-Boys...
Congrats on 700k WOOO!!
My favorite is a E39 M5 now that’s the best BMW by looks
I am on team E36. Something about those hard lines, I personally find it to be the best looking of the bunch. Sure it is underpowered comparing it to all future generations but it is still so much fun to drive.
The E46 is and always will be the all time winner.
E36 m3 has been a favorite of mine since i was a kid
Some are making small grills for the newest m3
E46 M3!
I LOVE my E93 M3, yeah nowadays there getting farther from the original but it’s still an M car, and the last NA engine BMW used in the M3
Had both the e46 and e93. Love both. My favorite is the e93 but I really miss my e46.
great vid, brad:)
Wow I quest everyone has the duck now
I have e90 330i with n52b30 M/T 254bhp (euro model) and I think it's the best car I had from what I can get for under 5k.
I don’t like how you explain the f8x m3 m4 I owned all by far this one is a game changer
Great video but I've owned both e46 m3 and f80 m3 both Awsum cars but f80 wins hands down in all aspects brilliant to drive on track and day to day tech in that beast is unreal brilliant engineering and they took a lot of that away on the G80 like carbon fiber tail shaft and also the engine bay on the G80 could have been finished a lot nicer f80 engine bay work of art close 2nd e46 best sounding e90 i would still love all the m3's in my garage still great video thumbs up👍💙
I really want an F80 , E90, and E46 M3 😍
F80
My favorite car my dream too is E36 and E46
Love M3 GTR in NFS game...😍
Always beautiful
When I was younger I liked the m3 gtr and. Did not know the name of it soo I just searched up m3 gtr and it came up not I’m more of a e90 m3 🤤
@@Trxp__p I didn't know the name either....
GOAT means Greatest Of All Times G.O.A.T
The F80 is the best M3 ever and so underrated the older ones are overrated
The things is that not all of us are looking for a more comfortable and refine ride, that’s why the e30 is my favorite is the more raw experience between all of them
Add the 1M that was something unexpected and really special , from E92 the M3 started to turn into boat , it was no longer a compact sports car.
My favorite M car is the M140i with the B58 engine.
Greetings from Austria 🇦🇹

M3>>>>
E36 M3 is the reason I fell in love with BMW
I’ve also own 4 e36s!!! Best cars for anything/everything. The e90 is basically the new e36. IMO 💁🏾♂️
YES!!!!! Im partial to the e36 chassis, but I daily an e46 323ci! Don't be scared that its not the 3.0 guys! 2.5 M52 handles boost better and also sounds way different (deeper, and higher pitched over 4000, similar to like a sport bike or something rather than the crazy rasp with a 3.0)
It's honestly not worth spending the extra few thousand for a 330, as you are only about 35hp shy with the 323, and for about $1000 you can make 325WHP easily with some simple mods and a tune!!!!!
Great vid! M3 GTR that looks exactly like the NFS model would be my dream car.
V8 in the e92 sounds great but the engine noise coming out of the E46 M3 is amazing and if your throw in the CSL airbox, forget about it, eargasms….
Everyone crapping on F80s.. I love driving mine personally. Do agree E46 (the first M3 I ever drove) is fantastic.
@4:00 ... Hilarious! Good drop lol (DO IT!)
I totally love the E46 and the F80
e46 m3 all day long.
Looks like the orignal becuase of this will always be the most special.
the M3 is litt
