im with the E36. its the sweet spot between the e30 and e46. its still pretty and boxy, its fast. its part of my blood though. my dad loved old bm's especially m5s and e36 m3s
i would have an e92 just because of the cool factor you get from driving it but the feeling you get from the old straight six is euphoric in the e36, and the driving involvement is 20x better than that of the e92.
+S Miller Thats gonna be a really tough one between the E39 M5 vs E60 M5. The E39 is simply a gorgeous, amazing, super elegant killer (kinda like a hot ass milf with glasses). The V10 in the E60 should go down in history as one of the best engines ever made. That induction noise is orgasmic........

E36 all the way. The E36 either in its 3 series or M form is probably the biggest icon in BMW history. Looks, the sound, the handling, the sheer pureness and soul of the E36 M3 is unmatched. Everyone, from car guys to casual drivers will think of an E36 the instant you mention BMW. Will choose one over any other BMW.
Be honest. The e46 got that damn camel hump dash coming up too high(behind the steering wheel. ) That combined with the low windshield just destroys vision. You only got like the length of a dong between the top of the steering wheel and the glass. It's also more expensive to fix than the e36. The e36 is the most practical of the bunch.

+Nathan thomas well for one it does have a bad exhaust note. its atrocious. On top of which they are quad tips(rice). Side vents(rice), front bumper is ricey to and looks like a body kit. Its the least pleasing m3 to look at imo. Its lines have been bloated too much. Of course all the kids who love forza love it. But not if you have a clue about clean design. Overall its too gaudy. Thats why its not timeless.
@@dajilus2410 new models (also M4) are just too damn heavy. They got loads of hp and clever engineering, that’s why they are still fast, but on the track the weight is a big issue as they eat tyres and breaks. Unfortunately a real bmw drivers car like the e46 m3 will never come back.
After driving them all myself, it's got to be the E90/E92. So good I bought one. Best handling and best sounding. Also a good looking car. Only downside like was said, MPG. 23 is the best I ever got and that was driving it like a granny. Haha.

I remember cruising through the outskirts of London at 70mph in the early 90's, my dad let me drive his '71 reg Jaguar Etype Mk2. Best part was the gear changes. A rattle with each shift. I also remember my uncle in Cambridge with his e46 M3, driving 60mph, head sticking out of the sunroof in latenight Cambridge. The days..
People don't understand the E36 M3, you can say it doesn't have these pretty fenders or unique body panels; the E36 is about simplicity. It doesn't need all of these fancy body panels to show what it is. Some of you say that the E30 is best M3 of them all, it is just somewhat outdated and underpowered compared to the others, let's not forget the awfully expensive S14 to maintain. Then the E46 is cherished by people from all spectrums of the enthusiast world. It's definitely the prettiest of the m3s, but let's not forget, it barely makes power over the E36, and it borrows most of the suspension components from the E36. It's also much heavier than the E36. We can't forget about its infamous subframe issues( which baffles me because the E36 came with subframe reinforcements). The newer M3s have lost their touch compared to the older M3s, overpowered, too luxury oriented, and a serious weight gain. The E36 M3 is the best of the M3, and the most underrated of the M3s.

I’ve owned three e36 m3s and I totally disagree with his opinion about the e46 being better. Every journalists was unanimous that BMW destroyed the steering in the e46. It is far too light and lacks the feel of the older car which was universally praised as having an amazing steering of any car, on par with 911’s. And even worse was what BMW did to the throttle response. The e46 went to a drive by wire throttle as opposed to the manual cable of the e36. The throttle in the e36 was so linear and communicative. Pure heaven. The throttle in the e46 was garbage in comparison. Car journalists all panned the e46 and thought that BMW totally missed the mark. Having driven both a lot, I agree and I can’t understand this reviewer’s assessment. I say drive them both and see for yourself.
It’s all opinion I’ve had both and in my opinion the e36 never came close enough to compare to the performance of the e46 bmw also said the e46 m3 was one of the best handling cars they made and the s54 was one of the best engines they ever made

One thing to note about the e46 is it’s throttle response with independent throttle bodies. It also is VERY aerodynamic vehicle. Because of the instant power, smaller size, and aerodynamics it pulls out of a corner like a monster. And if you go on a track that is the key to winning a a race, not 0-60 and top speed
I have driven an E92 as my daily driver for 7 years and have had a permanent smile on face ever since I turned it on at the warehouse and had no idea what to expect of that V8! Not too many around where I live which makes it even better! I recently added the F80 to my garage. Still getting used to it vs. my E92. E92 is an analog scapel, where the F80 is a bit more brutish. But having them both and being able to drive them back to back anytime, is the stuff of dreams. Patience and time might have to find an E46 my way! I was never a BMW fan, but those M3s, they become an extension of you. A rev loving, all-out, corner-carving smile-inducing, extension!
M3 or not, I freaking love the body style of my 2000 bmw e46 4door sedan, the way I keep it up, it turns heads and get loads of compliments. I guess what I’m trying to say, I’m keeping this car for generations to come. My 16-year-old loves it she loves the way it drives and feels smooth I’m passing it on to her which I made her promise me that she will pass it on to her kids as well, it’s gonna stay in the family for years to come no matter what.

It's not a cast iron block and can't hold as much power as the E46, it's does sound great but when you mod the E46 M3 exhaust, it sounds like a formula 1 car. Check out the straight pipe videos of it.

This is tough. The E30 is a badass car. The E36 is such an iconic automobile. The E46 changed the game and is still likely the best looking M produced. The E92, come on, natty high rev V8 😍 ...but the F80 shits on all of them by a long shot with regard to performance and interior sex appeal. Tough tough call.

Leader IM ϟϟ oil changing and inspection are simple things..should be 20-25 dollars more than a Japanese car...tires are a little more expensive with German cars..run flats are ranging from 500-600 per tire if you need to replace them..so none run flats should be a lot cheaper
The F80 is matched in performance by an SS Camaro, and it gets stomped by a Z28 or a GT350. The E46 would never allow itself to be outdone by such inferior brands back in its day.
i got an e46 thinking i was just going to keep it for a year. Now i'm restoring it since the original owner didn't give it the proper care it needed, and it's my pride and joy now.
+Aidan red It´s a pity that M3 doesn´t mean 2-door coupé anymore, right. But BMW has a quite important heritage of even-numbered coupés, namely 6-series. The only car that´s named totally wrong in the BMW range is the 2-series Active Tourer, has nothing to do with the 2-series at all.
Vanos ist NOT at all like V-TEC! With a V-Tec you have genuinely two different cam profiles build into one engine, so a mild, almost 2-Valve cam for low RPMs and an extremely agressive one for higher RPM. Vanos means Variable Nockenwellensteuerung (varaible camadjustment): All that is doing is changing the lobe separation and or installed centerline to some degree. But the actual cam profile allways stays the same.

Completely disagree with the E36 vs E46. The E36 feels tighter and more direct, easier to feel. No throttle by wire either. The E46 is awesome but the E36 a little bit more raw.

In my opinion: e30 > e46 > e92 > F80 > e36.

I’ve owned three e36 m3s and I totally disagree with his opinion about the e46 being better. Every journalists was unanimous that BMW destroyed the steering in the e46. It is far too light and lacks the feel of the older car which was universally praised as having an amazing steering of any car, on par with 911’s. And even worse was what BMW did to the throttle response. The e46 went to a drive by wire throttle as opposed to the manual cable of the e36. The throttle in the e36 was so linear and communicative. Pure heaven. The throttle in the e46 was garbage in comparison. Car journalists all panned the e46 and thought that BMW totally missed the mark. Having driven both a lot, I agree and I can’t understand this reviewer’s assessment. I say drive them both and see for yourself.
It’s all opinion I’ve had both and in my opinion the e36 never came close enough to compare to the performance of the e46 bmw also said the e46 m3 was one of the best handling cars they made and the s54 was one of the best engines they ever made

Great video, made my Monday! I love the sexy E30 and the iconic E46. I own 2 E46 (330 not M3) and if I had more garage space I would buy even more of these.
I drove an E36 yesterday and I had a smile ear to ear when I first depressed the clutch.
The Euro Spec E36 is underrated. It's nearly as fast as an E46 and it looks so good, and it sounds better than the E46 in my opinion.

You forget the extra weight that came with the e46. They didn't bring much in the way of performance increases.

One thing to note about the e46 is it’s throttle response with independent throttle bodies. It also is VERY aerodynamic vehicle. Because of the instant power, smaller size, and aerodynamics it pulls out of a corner like a monster. And if you go on a track that is the key to winning a a race, not 0-60 and top speed
I have driven an E92 as my daily driver for 7 years and have had a permanent smile on face ever since I turned it on at the warehouse and had no idea what to expect of that V8! Not too many around where I live which makes it even better! I recently added the F80 to my garage. Still getting used to it vs. my E92. E92 is an analog scapel, where the F80 is a bit more brutish. But having them both and being able to drive them back to back anytime, is the stuff of dreams. Patience and time might have to find an E46 my way! I was never a BMW fan, but those M3s, they become an extension of you. A rev loving, all-out, corner-carving smile-inducing, extension!
M3 or not, I freaking love the body style of my 2000 bmw e46 4door sedan, the way I keep it up, it turns heads and get loads of compliments. I guess what I’m trying to say, I’m keeping this car for generations to come. My 16-year-old loves it she loves the way it drives and feels smooth I’m passing it on to her which I made her promise me that she will pass it on to her kids as well, it’s gonna stay in the family for years to come no matter what.
Great video! I'm a massive E46 fan and I'm soon to buy my third. Having started with a sweet and gentle 318 and then upgrading to a 325, the next (and last) one is going to be the gorgeous E46 M3.

E36 was always under rated between the e46 and e30. But I find it to be super sexy and a car to just slide around.
E30's front end is simply gorgeous but overall E46 is just amazing even after 19 years it still looks modern.
The E46 aged like fine wine even today in 2021 the timeless design it has looks great even 20 years later

It's not a cast iron block and can't hold as much power as the E46, it's does sound great but when you mod the E46 M3 exhaust, it sounds like a formula 1 car. Check out the straight pipe videos of it.

This is tough. The E30 is a badass car. The E36 is such an iconic automobile. The E46 changed the game and is still likely the best looking M produced. The E92, come on, natty high rev V8 😍 ...but the F80 shits on all of them by a long shot with regard to performance and interior sex appeal. Tough tough call.

Leader IM ϟϟ oil changing and inspection are simple things..should be 20-25 dollars more than a Japanese car...tires are a little more expensive with German cars..run flats are ranging from 500-600 per tire if you need to replace them..so none run flats should be a lot cheaper

It´s a pity that M3 doesn´t mean 2-door coupé anymore, right. But BMW has a quite important heritage of even-numbered coupés, namely 6-series. The only car that´s named totally wrong in the BMW range is the 2-series Active Tourer, has nothing to do with the 2-series at all.
The rear arches on the M3 are so much better than the 4, though.

Vanos ist NOT at all like V-TEC!
With a V-Tec you have genuinely two different cam profiles build into one engine, so a mild, almost 2-Valve cam for low RPMs and an extremely agressive one for higher RPM.
Vanos means Variable Nockenwellensteuerung (varaible camadjustment):
All that is doing is changing the lobe separation and or installed centerline to some degree.
But the actual cam profile allways stays the same.

Completely disagree with the E36 vs E46. The E36 feels tighter and more direct, easier to feel. No throttle by wire either. The E46 is awesome but the E36 a little bit more raw.

I like your true honesty about every single M3!!! You seemed to be non biased about the information you gave out on every M3!!! Your information was true and to the point!!! I personally myself owned a 1992 325i and I loved it!!! I know it might not have been as fast as an M3, but it pretty much gave you an idea what an M3 would be like if you upgraded to buying one!!! The M3 is a lot better in performance, Hores Power, and interior upgrades of course!!! Then again it's the top of the line of the 3 series!!!Now for this video comparison purposes, to me 1st place goes to the E46, 2ND would be the E36, 3rd would be the E92, 4th would be the F80, and finally the E30 would be last!!! I never was a big fan of the E30!!! It just seems and looks way to boxy and very very outdated!!! It just doesn't have that BMW look that the other M3's seem to have to them!!! If you would take off the BMW and M3 badges and also that front grill you probably wouldn't be able to tell that it was a BMW in my opinion!!! Maybe because it's just the 1st generation of M3's I don't know!!! It's hard to say!!! The over all looks of it just doesn't seem to appeal to me!!! Once again great video!!!👌👌👌
