There’s no one else like JMG who can make a stressful Monday feel like a relaxing Friday 😌
Side note: I hope we can figure out what dark matter is soon. You’d think we would’ve figured it out by now, but we don’t even have it narrowed down to a select number of possibilities yet. I can imagine looking back on ourselves from the near future, at us during this time period, and just laughing at our caveman-like lack of understanding of dark matter lol.

I always get a weird existential crisis when watching these videos. The universe is such a huge and empty place filled with strangeness we understand nothing about.
Our existence is a huge sum of lucky breaks and coincidences.
Yet I'm still a lazy slob doing absolutely nothing with my life.
But i justify it as a chance to have fun, regret nothing, and study the universe, our planet, life, patterns, and science.
Trying to make our world a better place by loving and sharing this insane experience called life with animals, doggos, plants, humans and everyone who are along for the ride (and maybe even continue the cycle of life some day).
Sharing experiences, knowledge, and laughs. Embracing positivity.
Life is way too short to worry about superficial things.
Make an impact, leave your mark on the universe.
..That type of an existential crisis.

I wish JMG would be able to just crank out videos like these all day long(sadly, that isn't possible). Not much in this world excites me anymore... except when JMG uploads another super awesome and informative video. When I get that notification, I feel like I'm a little girl on Christmas morning all over again 😋
I'm starting to get my husband and our 7 year old daughter hooked on these videos too. They don't get into astronomy, astrophysics, etc like I do. I'm doing my best to get them into it. I have also been emailing links to JMG videos to my dad too(he enjoys astronomy). We always get together to watch meteor showers. He's been very lonely ever since my mom passed away and he retired from his job, so I've been trying to get him into more than just backyard astronomy. It's a great way to keep the mind occupied and spend time together. JMG videos are a great way for the amateur backyard astronomer to cross over from basic objects in the sky to much more complex astronomical topics.

John i've been subscribed to both of your channels almost since their inception. Event Horizon since the beginning and this channel since you only had 20k subscribers. I am so happy to see how well you are doing, besides from the numbers, the quality of your content has been getting better as well. It was good to begin with but especially with regards to Event Horizon, i am always impressed by how well you prepare for the interviews, your understanding of the subject matter at hand always shines through in the type of questions you ask of the various scientists you interview. Not only that, i can often tell that the various luminaries you have on enjoy talking about their fields of expertise with you as well. PBS Spacetime is good in the sense that is very technical and analytical, however it lacks something that your channels have in abundance and that is, if you will, soul. Mathematics, rigorous analytical thought and high abstraction are a good way to conceptualize The Universe and all that is within it, but you always bring the human element to the table something so important yet rarely seen in the more technical oriented content of the genre. You manage to put out a balanced blend, and for that i think your channels are among the best of their kind in this field of study.

What does it mean that the galaxies of our supercluster are linked if they aren't gravitationally bound?

    • @dystorl2907
      @dystorl2907 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hi, I may have an answer to your question. The galaxies in a supercluster are of coarse linked through gravity.
However, considering the universe is expanding in all directions, I think this expansion has more effect on galaxies than the gravity of other galaxies.
If gravity was the only force, all galaxies would more or less merge. In our case, all galaxies would disperse from this expansion.

One of the hypotheses that me and my dad have on the existence of dark energy is that it is basically scar tissue that is the result of the superluminal expansion of the universe, and regions that expanded at slightly higher rates have a higher density of dark energy, causing matter to be pushed out at a higher rate. This could potentially explain the existence of the massive voids that exist between clusters.
