Thank you. I have try it in Apple Vision Pro Simulator on Mac. But it show not 3D. Work 8K VR180 only with the "Moon Player"? Other File, recorded with iPhone 15 Pro works in 1920x1080 in Apple Spatial Format without addional Apps.
Wow, just watched the sample video and what a massive disappointment, I need to try it on other media players to make sure its not some weird issue with Skybox, but it looks severely over sharpened, in the sunset scene Keeley looks like she's in 360p with no anti-aliasing. The whole thing looks more like 15 fps than 30fps (maybe a lack of motion blur due to the sharping ???) and the colour fringing is awful when people are wearing white. I'm torn on the colour, its over the top colourful, but that made the sunset scene look really nice, but I'm assuming the R5 bit at the end was closer to the true colour on the day. Is there an 'unstitched' option to get something a little less processed out of the camera ?
Thanks for highlighting this new camera! I'm torn, it looks great in VR cinema mode in Skybox (except the top and bottom blurs) and would be great for that but it just doesn't have the resolution for Immersive 180 VR video, there was no detail in the person coming down the rocks or on the rocks themselves, in the second shot it was better on the sand close up so maybe in scenes with less depth it'll be better but maybe we're just 3-5 years away from a consumer camera that has the resolution for Immersive 180 in the Vision Pro (even the Insta 360 Pro 2 we have at work isn't good enough!). Still tempted but if the effect isn't a lot amount better than my iPhone 15 Pro Max footage for spatial style windowed 3D then I know I'll just default back to using my phone rather than carry another camera! The side by side of iPhone and this camera for the same scene would be interesting!
@@gfunkadelicAus For the record, I just get Spacialify creater answer for 60 FPS with Iphone 16 Pro... And I am waiting Appple technicien call back now. ** For Spatialify, the limitation comes from the Apple SDK, which only supports a maximum of 4K30 when recording with dual cameras simultaneously. As for Apple, I guess it might be because the bandwidth required for dual 4K60 streams is too high previously. However, the iPhone 16 Pro seems to have improved capabilities in this area, but whether it can actually record dual 4K60 will need to be tested once I get the device. Apple might not have updated the developer SDK to lift this restriction, or there could be other reasons preventing this feature from being enabled. If the SDK allows it, the latest version of Spatialify may be able to automatically detect and offer this option on the new model.**
The auto automatic er correction and stiching along with the rear view screen make it really attractive for the general public. That may drive the distribution platforms to seriously support 8k or at least 6k content which will benefit everyone.
Yes one thing in the Cons I forget to mention is their Vision Pro App. Right now it is just a direct Unity Pour. I think they need some software work to make the Vision Pro app more usable and friendly. I think TikTok livestream app might have direct integration with AVP soon. This hardware also supposed to support that. Right now the problem is TikTok can not get into US on the livestream part at least.
Checking your sample footage - the left eye image is noticeably softer than the right one resulting in problems when viewed in VR. I suppose its a lens quality control issue or a pre-production model issue.
Thank you Hugh for this video. This camera can change a lot of things. Finally a tool that will multiply the number of creators in 180° VR, that's great news.
Qoocam3 Ultra with two mirrors can shoot stereoscopic VR video too, but its FOV will be constrained by the size of mirror, I tried this setup today, and it looks good.
Any update on when the full review for this will be Hugh? You had the pre-production unit for the first look? But did you purchase a version that shipped on 9/20? Can we expect a full review soon? Still on the fence if I should buy this and don’t like that they don’t offer any type of Money back guarantee / refund in case it’s not much better than my EVO.
I’m in the same boat. Reluctant to buy it without seeing more footage, but props to Hugh for uploading a downloadable file. Hope we get a closer look before the early bird period ends!
@@AetherSummersI agree. I also downloaded his sample vid on the beach but wasn’t very impressed and hard to judge because everything was further away. I keep checking everyday if there’s any other updates on this 8k camera. Still hopeful that this is better than my EVO but will wait for further reviews / info before I purchase. Keep me updated on what you’ll do.
@@tonysenterprises1360I've been doing the same, also hoping for an upgrade to my Evo. Some people have received their camera yesterday and footage and reviews are now starting to get posted. Thus far it's all negative... It's unfortunate, as I had high hopes for this product. Back to wishing that Canon release their hybrid cam...
@@tonysenterprises1360 Just want to voice that i‘m also in this board with you and @LeVacarois . I‘m so hoping it would be a good successor to the EVO. Actually i never owned an EVO before, but after seeing the source material from Hugh i actually looked for a used EVO and snatched one for a resonance price. While at the same time hoping that Calf will acknowledge the issue and provide a fix or at least decent communication. Seeing all the negative stuff now from the people receiving one i‘m glad i resisted the urge to order now. Now i‘ll have to look into upscaling and interpolation to try to get the EVO material to the desired quality instead, but still better than other alternatives i feel. I‘ll better invest some of the money planned for the Calf to go into Topaz Video AI instead :-)
I ordered it just before i saw your video. lol So now Im glad that i did. I was really nervous about that compulsive buying. Haha. Nice video reviews thanks! By the way i buy it with the early bird deal and also a found a 100$ promo code on the net. So it cost me 599$ USD free shipping include. It is already a very nice cam and I'm sure that future firmware update will make it better.
Hey Hugh. Received my Gen.2 Visense today. The Fan is really loud, have to think about it. Can you help with a short post production Video on Davinci Resolve?
Thank you for sharing the samples, Hugh! Is that normal in your experience that both CALF cameras have a very uneven, choppy image flow when filming moving objects? The Canon seemed buttery smooth in comparison?
Wondering this myself, but my guess it will be impossible for Hugh to answer this as, to the best of my knowledge, Canon has only shown him the 180/360 flip around camera once behind a glass case with little info on its specs. Hugh is very much a hand-on guy when it comes to this tech. Even if Canon gave him the specs, he won't give an opinion until he's proven its performance. Personally, I'm holding until the end of the year for Canon to release ANY info on the camera as they said it was supposed to be coming out this year. If I don't hear anything by the holidays, probably getting the QooCam.
Yes, I won't voice my opinion until I get the camera. Even I have the camera - I only list facts - not my opinion. This video I don't even have affiliated links to keep it fair. Qoocam 3 Ultra is a 360 camera btw this is a VR180 / Spatial Camera - completely different cat. They both use the new Android OS - getting popular now in camera. It is nice this is like a cellphone.
Thank you. Ever since my dear EVO scratched one "eye" I've been waiting for something like this to come out. I hope that video stabilization will actually appear and the price won't be "sky-high". And suddenly Insta360 finally releases the long-awaited EVO 2. I'm waiting. Is it possible to make a comparison video of CALF 2 & EVO during the day and evening and post them for comparison in Quest 3.
@@hughhou Yes, I'd love direct comparisons with the EVO too, as that seems to be its main competitor. I'm especially curious about the framerate and low light performance.
Don't see the link to the footage for seing this on my own ? Also Calf does'nt seems to certified on ther website, that it will be 50FPS in 7.2K. 30 FPS is crap in VR so it's hard to preorder without this.
It is coming sorry I have a day job need to go - I am a DoP. Need to make some money first to feed Kimchi lol. These videos I don't make anything - just my give back to the community.
@@hughhou The R5MII is overexposed... xD This happens a lot with my R5C... Thanks to the RAW format for being able to save all the errors of this kind ^^ And obviously the wind makes the tripod move. Calf 2.0 isn't really good at this time in my opinion. 30 FPS is crap, but you already know that.. And it seem's more like 20 at this point (motion blur off ?). But above all, there's a 3D disparity absolutely everywhere. Up close and at a distance, there's a slight 3D duplication of sand and people. It's rather disappointing, unless there was a problem with Davinci. Also we don't seem to see 7.2K here.. Sharpness is really of compare to 8K. I'm pleased that development is continuing. But I'm also a little shocked that Calf is only giving ONE fixed image setting with the Visinse. Why can't we switch between 3 settings? At the moment, even for me, the image is too high in contrast, and black areas are completely drowned out. I love bright colors, but this (and the contrast) is way too much. Make a three-stage selection in the setup and I'll buy this camera.
That is exact the feedback I gave to them - I hope they listen when they see the mountain of comments and complaint lol. Even consumer need some preset.
I‘m afraid this camera is targeted mainly at camgirl usage… beauty mode (that if i understand correctly cannot even be deactivated?) and stationary use - and only very basic settings. I‘m so close to ordering, but the issues revealed by the first tests/users are really pushing me back.
@@heiok yeah, i also tend to not order it. The early bird discount is nice, but the risk is too high. BTW: If i read correctly, it was revealed that the beauty mode isn‘t even included yet. So what we see currently is without it - which kinda makes it even worse :-/
Thanks Hugh! Always bringing us the latest and greatest in VR180 tech. Will probably stick to my R5ii/dual fisheye setup, but may pick one of these up for travel. Would still need to bring the gimbal, but excited about the light weight and in-camera stitching. How is the 7k50fps footage compared to the 8k30fps footage?
It is only 7K30 right now. Will show you the footage vs R5II - I am having the stabilization issue in current R5II firmware btw. Did you think the IS stabilization they claiim right now is complete broken? In EOS VR Utility it does not really work. Even in gimbal is shaky... My R5 C does not have this problem. That is why I stop making video about R5II for now - something is not right. Wonder if you see the same problem and can exchange notes
@@hughhoudon’t do it to me Hugh, every video you tease me with the canon pocket 360/180 and every time you kill my dreams. We will keep doing it until it releases in 2026 as it helps with the TH-cam algorithm on your channel 😂
Well, I did sign an NDA and I am in the mercy of Canon. But I know they will release it. Right now their Spatial line for AVP get a lot more attention. So make sense they listen to the "market" first.
@@hughhou ah the NDA- say no more then! I’m holding out until December then I have to pull the trigger on something, I am taking a squad of athletes to a European martial arts championship and it would be great to capture the action in 180 stereoscopic without having to take a huge setup through carry on luggage or put it in the suitcase and hope for the best 😬
I want to order but I want to see if the 8k resolution update will be dropped on 9/30 before the early bird price ends (and hopefully we would get in depths review at that time. But let's face it, it's the only new consumer priced vr180 camera from a company that already had a decent vr180 camera on the market. And I will use it for family videos) I watched the sample video in quest 3. In terms of visuals, at the moment, two GoPro 11s look better. 3d spatial video is only 1080p per eye at 60 fps? This is due to the sensor? I was hoping it could do 3d spatial video in 4k per eye at 30 or 60 fps like the acer stereo 3d camera or the iPhone 16 pro theoretically.
Great review as always Hugh! Been a user of the EVO since 2019 and it's surely due for an upgrade. This one looks quite interesting, which, as you said, is probably the only VR180 point and shoot on the market in a similar "consumer" price range right now. Will likely wait a couple of more months to see how the Canon point and shoot goes, though. A small question: the new CALF2 only has 1/2.3 inch sensors (I could be wrong, but does the EVO actually have the same sensor size too?). Despite the larger F2 aperture, this still seems to be an awfully small sensor size. Is the better image quality than the EVO mainly due to the processor being better and enabling 7k vs 5.7k, or is it the aperture? Does CALF2 suffer in low light conditions like the EVO?
You are right same size sensor. But CALF use a newer SONY sensor with that size so image quality still a lot better. It is a blacklit sensor with quad pixels.
@@hughhou Thanks for the timely reply! Ah, I see. As you said, indeed perhaps using a better and newer Sony backlit sensor (even if being the same size) in itself would already improve the image quality and low-light performance a lot.
@@hughhou By the way, just want to say that, even though VR photography is perhaps still not entirely mainstream yet (especially VR180), yours is certainly the best and most informative youtube channel on the subject that I know. (I remember watching your comparison video between Evo/Vuze/Lenovo/Kandao back in 2019, and that helped with my decision in buying the EVO a lot, so thanks again!). Looking forward to more great content from you in the future! Also, with more companies including even Apple/Canon in the game, hope that there can be a renaissance of VR180 consumer product lines like in 2019 which hopefully makes VR photography even more mainstream.
I'm a big fan of the Insta360 EVO- on my third one, one lost in a drone accident (yes, you read that right). Can't wait to finish this review- it's already cheaper than a used EVO!
@@hughhou I flew the EVO on Mini 3 Pro- it cut the range by about 30-40%. It was ok as long as you flew gently and not in too much wind. The main problem is the drone is in the field of view and too close. I made a mistake and lost the drone, it wasn't because of the EVO!
hey, I have the original calf and is there a way to stabalize the footage in premiere? The footage is great, but man it is hard to keep stable, even with a gimbal
Re: the external audio jack: I see a headphone out, so is it the USB-C? Does this mean that the camera natively supports USB audio devices, including 4-channel AmbiX output from a Zoom H3-VR?
Yes it does just like Gen-1. But not sure it can store 4 channels. It is only support Stereo. So probably only USB-C Mic for regular mic - not spatial mic
@@hughhou Good to know, and I'm looking forward to the test result! So far the only VR180 camera that I know of that can record 4 channels into the video file straight from a H3-VR USB, is the Teche 3D180VR. It's very convenient (no worries about sync), but unfortunately the AAC encoding seems to lose some audio phase detail so the spatialization isn't quite as clear and detailed as you would get from recording to A-format internally onto the H3-VR, and then converting that. I've asked Teche if they could make recording lossless PCM audio into the video file could be added as a feature with a firmware update.
Thanks for the test video. The impression is contradictory. 1 The fact that the nadir disappears does not bother at all and this is good. 2 The increase in detail is noticeable, especially in the foreground. Canon visually loses in this. 3 The picture has excessive contrast and saturation. Some oversharpening is also possible. I would like to be able to adjust the image - is it possible to receive unprocessed video from the camera. In general, I have a question about processing and controlling the shooting - does the camera provide remote control from a smartphone via WiFi. Will there be a program on the PC for processing, stitching, stabilization and initial editing of video. Or will everything be limited to in-camera capabilities. Then this is bad and the capabilities of the EVO are preferable in this regard. I hope you can shoot more videos in different conditions (soft lighting, indoors, in the evening and with insufficient general lighting and individual bright light sources) And of course I would like to compare the picture with EVO.
Hi Hugh could I use a gimbal to record on a snowboard using Calf gen 2 and what would be a good one to buy , and would it work to give a smooth video to play back on my apple vision pro .that is my plan if not I would record using a tripod to get footage of the place I'm visiting . I got the Clip of the Calf Gen 2 off your page and down loaded it onto my pc and then uploaded it to icloud to play back on the Apple vision pro to see the quality play back of the Calf gen 2 . very impressed . great quality . I watch your clips all the time for latest updates and news , you are the man in the Know when it come to VR content . many thanks for your videos also as Im due to get the Calf Gen 2 what would be the ideal post edit sofware that is easy to use on pc and can run the 8K VR content back to my apple vision pro. I was looking at Blackmagic Davinci resolve 19 software .
I have not done enough test on stabilization yet as that firmware is not out. I will reframe to buy this if you intend to use on action sports. Let's wait or get old evo
Yes the encoder still has some issue on 1 eye. They aware of that and hopefully can fix it in the final production unit (I have the pre-production unit here)
Review right here: th-cam.com/video/KF8DY2pVLWA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=0uZlAdiccv1uylh1 - it is the best gimbal for small body camera with built-in light. Also very affordable. Not DJI but super underrated.
Thank you for sending the email out with the link. After seeing the video, my purchase was worthwhile. Thank you for all you do - a pioneer in this field. Very much appreciate you helping non technological people.
CALF Gen 2 is CALF Visinse. I think CALF bought VINSINSE? Or the lens is made by Vinsinse. I really don't know Visinse until now. They are a lens maker.
Master, please bring more information about Livestream VR! Is it possible to stream to TH-cam? Which players are on Meta Quest? The live streaming market deserves this support! Thank you for another spectacular video! ❤🎉
Thanks for the video Hugh! I wonder if the camera is 8 bit or 10 bit? And if it is 4:2:0 or 4:2:2? I can’t find any info on this…color depth and chroma sampling
@@hughhouThanks Hugh. Was thinking about getting the R5 but this would save me a lot of $. I’m confused if this is ready to ship now at the early bird price or god knows when it’ll actually ship?
Regarding file format this exports to, are you able to transfer the files directly to the Vision Pro Files app and play directly within the Photos app? Or do we need to use a certain app to view them? Also, i can't seem to find the sample footage in your description. is it there?
It’s in the ping comment. The web service is not out yet so I can’t upload directly via camera but it has wifi features. The file will still need Premiere to edit. Not drag and drop yet but I think that’s their goal eventually
You sideload it (USB-C to Meta Quest) (Airdrop to Vision Pro) on your movies folder and use the TV app to play it. TV app come with your Meta Quest heatset. Watch my other tutorial for Vision Pro
Not until Dec stabilization is out. Also you need a pretty heavy duty one as it will catch wind.

I've been waiting for this video since we met at AWE this year! I already pre-order it. Does it have a built-in spatial video microphone, or is it just stereo? Which plug-in microphone would you recommend to avoid the fan noise?
Anyone know where to find good information on what software and computer platform (MacOS preferred, or Windows) to produce VR180 videos with CALF? I love the look at this one, Thanks Hugh!
You don't need any software - I think this is the idea of CALF - anyone can use it. So no stitching or 3D calibration is needed. For general editing, we have ton of tutorials on this channel on VR180 editing. I suggest learning Davnici Resolve as it is the most powerful. But we have both Premiere tutorial and Resolve tutorial on this channel can last you month of education and we continue to make more when there is update and newer workflow :) When you get VR180 format, camera does not matter that point
Can you edit 3d video in final cut pro? The workflow seems to be all too complicated. I kind of hope the 3D XR future to be here earlier and disappointed by Apple not letting iPhone 16 Pros to support 4K60 Spacial video
Listen to the words you are using. 3d. 360. VR. 360 is easy enough with a used insta360 VR isn't easy. Even this 1k camera is only 180 vr. Only 360 VR cameras I know of a ~10K You just spat out multiple words, with little comprehension
I just came back from trip to US with my Insta360 . First day I broke lens guard and last day broke camera itself. Hope some of the manufactures will make 180 or 360 cameras more "fool proof".
If it is a VR camera. It is our "day job" to test out all possible solution to offer to our clients as a camera operator / DoP in the film industry. Can't operate without a camera. So yes. Then we can also make review video free for the community - win win. I need to do camera test anyway, might as well ask Kimchi to film me, right?
I believe you primarily create videos for the American market. The Pico 4 Ultra is an excellent VR headset, especially for photos and videos. I find it much easier to transfer media to my Pico than to my Quest 3.
The Acer is better than this cam for sure! If nothing better (Canon) comes out by end of year, I'll hopefully pull the trigger on either Acer 3D cam or ViewPT Realia...
@@hughhou Perhaps other companies will release 180 lenses on Acer and then it will also be possible to shoot vr180, because it can record 8k 30 fps. But this is just a fantasy. The Acer hasn't been released yet, you can't buy it anywhere.
@@Voron_33 Or maybe I would stitch 3x Acer 3D's for 18k VR180 or 24k VR240 with help of some AI 😍 I'm not that picky about the edges, hence VR240 which should be super easy to do with minimal work. It could have 3 "window frames". No biggie... I even envision 2 of the 3 to be easily rotatable so I can change where they point... one could cover the complete back of the stationary one if there's interesting action there...Cameraman (me) will be (less/in)visible on the side, or away (tripod/bike mounted monopod etc)...
I'm confused. the footage you uploading the Calf VR looked much more clear.. much much much more clear than Canon R5M2. surely the difference can't be that huge? or is it?
Mmmmm... Not sure what you mean Calf VR looked much more clear - The R5M2 is very sharp as well. Those are just direct camera output. Be ware the Canon is 8K but I have to render it down to match Calf.
@@hughhou The R5M2 looked like trash on ur video. looks grainy, can't make people out. The Calf VR looked great and very impressive. could you instead upload sample footage to do both devices justice but separate files?
Thanks for this Hugh, I will likely buy it on release.. I wanted to ask on a scale of 1-10. Where would you put insta360 EVO and where would you put Calf Vivinse?
The lenses look bigger then that of EVO or that new EVO-like canon model - so I suppose this camera will be better in low light conditions? What's the photo quality? 12MP is low compared to 18MP of insta360.
The lens, the native 60fps sensor support, and better professional control that Gen 2 will lack. Gen 1 you can set everything - ISO, Shutter, WB, Saturation, even sharpness and vibrancy. This is kinda important for spatial livestream when you can not do post color grading. It is full metal housing and heat sunk and more ports. The Gen 1 I heard there is firmware to make it into 8K but personal I have not tried it yet.
@@hughhouBig question if the firmware brings 8k via interpolation (crap), or actual optics (sooo good). I can use Topaz to do better upscaling tyvm....
Thanks for this preview. It looks very promising to me. But you also have to be realistic. If the image quality could keep up with that of significantly more expensive cameras, then this camera wouldn't be so cheap. However, if the image quality is better than that of the Insta360 Evo, then it would be an attractive offer for many newcomers to VR 180, myself included. The only thing holding me back from ordering at the moment is whether Canon will deliver something better soon. But Canon shouldn't take too much time with their announcement.
Yes that is my point. This camera is not mean to complete with Canon or its own Gen-1, it is more a replacement of EVO as it sit around the price point. Pro user will need camera control which this camera right now do not have. And the quality still need some works - but hopefully they can iron it out. It takes Gen-1 several updates to finally good to use. So it will take some time I believe.
@@hughhouHi Hugh! Thanks for all the info and what you do to keep us updated. But I still don't get how the Calf Gen-1 could be better than this new one since the specs of the Gen-1 (especially the 6k versus now 7.6k and soon 8k) are lower than the new model... How do you explain that?
6:27 7k* video 😂. Great video, this camera looks really good. I think maybe this is the one to finally bring VR filming into the mainstream 🤷🏻♂️. Any overheating issues when livestreaming etc?
Hi Hugh, what would you say about Calf Visinse versus Acer SpatialLabs Eyes ... Which (format) will become more popular? Afaik the Acer does not do VR180, right? Just as iPhone15Pro and iPhone16 don't do VR180. Do you think the iPhone format will be the choice for the masses, because that is what the iPhone captures? And if I want to capture in that same format ... is therefor the Acer the 'better' choice? Just trying to figure out what is ahead of us:)
Yes. Acer is only 3D or Spatial Video. I can’t predict that as it depends on how successful AVP will continue to be. There are big announcements coming up on Meta Connect I can’t share yet. So the landscape might change. More on that later hehe
Based on the comments I decided to wait a little longer purchasing a 180°VR camera! I would like to use it mostly for family videos , celebrations etc.
Ok, so it has a card slot but it's unclear if you can move recordings from the internal storage onto card from inside the camera without a PC? I don't want to have to take a laptop everywhere I take the camera for whenever I record more than 20gig.
It is 32G and 64G option is coming and prob you want the 64G if you only want internal. 24G is usable memory as the Android system took some space. The SD card is just like normal Insta360 X4. It will work. But not sure the future 7K 50fps or other higher resolution option. Right now 100Mbps can work with TF Card. You don't need to take a computer. That is just for people really want to record forever (mostly like live production / boardcast) you can have the option to storage locally for backup. That is boardcast requirement not really for consumer. It is nice to have tho. We will test external SSD in our next video.
I pulled the trigger on this bad boy.. anyone here have the prosumer calf cam released about a year ago? If you do, how have they been with support and firmware updates etc
@@tonysenterprises1360 just got a shipping notification last night (9/25)... Hopefully it will be here in time for me to get some sample videos up before the early bird sale ends. To help others decide to if they want to give it a try.. (I'm upgrading from a Evo also)
Hello I just received my camera and I have a problem creating an account, I have the message "captcha is incorrect" that appears, what should I do to solve this problem please? Thank you for your help!
Love it, seems no brainer to buy pre production version at $$$, question is will the production model be very different from pre-production in terms of software(opening up the image controls), or any last minute hardware changes for better performance, saving couple of hundred on pre-production seems like a debate, if answers are not coming from Calf(I emailed, they did not reply).
It has some nice features, but the color is horribly off, so I wouldn't be interested until they fix the coloration, it also doesn't look 7k of sharpness, and their website does totally advertise 8k, thanks for pointing that out, my Qoucam Ultra 3 I got last month looks way better
exciting times! i wonder how the quality compares to a diy setup using 2 GoPros or Insta360 Go 3 cameras, which currently seems to be the way to go for a low-cost solution. the calf would be so much more convenient to use though as it does all the post-processing for you…
Time is money. I'd rather hone on $-enhancing skills, or boost biz/profits in some way than waste precious time constantly syncing right and left eye.....
OMG, from day 1 I am pitching to SONY. But I don't know them and don't know who I should talk to first. If you have hook up, let us know. We build a VR180 camera with SONY Venice 2 for some major production before. But we can not do it without SONY blessing.
I find the top and bottom of the frame distracting. Will wait and see if Canon ever release their consumer VR 180 camera, or maybe Insta 360 will update theirs? Funny how after years of waiting, I'm no longer in a hurry to get one. Love the 3D with the Qoocam Ego, that I got 2 years ago, that will do for now.

On which platforme ? And have you ever try to publish a live stream in 6K or 8k (@30fps only) with standard tools ? ... for my part, we can publish at 4k@30fps .. with a subsecond latency, but it's the maximum. I don't undersand how to go further (perhaps using pro solutions but costs are too high).
@@nowandrew4442He's a pro, so in his eyes you need overlap for 3D effects on the side-views. That would also be insanely cpu and human labor intensive. I'd stick to having 3D effect straight foward and straight back only (2 cameras)... In fact, I would probably do something like that myself one day... I have no problem using two cams simultaneously... Due to inherent low pixels-per-viewing-angle on vr180, I can see myself using the Acer 3D ("VR80", not 180, in 8K) together with some decent quality 8k VR180 camera for front shot, possibly together with my EVO for back view. Yes, three camera setup. If the later workflow can be automated, it'd be worth the effort. I enjoy carrying gear around... It's good physical and mental exercise too 😂
If only insta360 comes with an adapter so I can have two x4 at eye-distance and then make single lens video and photo's syncronised later to be integrated in software.
I build an adapter for that. But syncing is the biggest issue. You need frame level genlock sync. All these are rolling shutter camera - so it won't be prefect sync. In 3D - this is what make people headache. I will make a tutorial soon on 2X Insta360 X4 solution if you are interested. It is not that hard as long as sync is not bothering you that much and you aim at 1 min recording to avoid drift

@@Vargol Yeah it was strange and very choppy.

I think it’s the ISP problem they just need to solve in their production unit.
Awesome review! But why is the gen 1 version 3x more expensive than the gen 2?
Because it's not Gen 2, it's Gen ½... A devolution... It's not even 10% better than my 5 year old EVO...

Hugh, will you recommend waiting for the Canon or going with two QooCam 3 Ultras or is this gonna be the best around $1K option?
Wondering this myself, but my guess it will be impossible for Hugh to answer this as, to the best of my knowledge, Canon has only shown him the 180/360 flip around camera once behind a glass case with little info on its specs. Hugh is very much a hand-on guy when it comes to this tech. Even if Canon gave him the specs, he won't give an opinion until he's proven its performance.

Calf 3DVR180 Gen1 is so friendly to everyday content creatorsI need it!!!

@@hughhou ok but can you blink twice in your next video if you think they are going to release before the end of the year 😁😁😁
I want to order but I want to see if the 8k resolution update will be dropped on 9/30 before the early bird price ends (and hopefully we would get in depths review at that time.
Greetings frm Sydney , enjoy your work , a very engrossing body of work .
We should test that in my next video. But just according the specs - it does not support more than 2 channels input.
What gimbal do you recommend?

Great review, Hugh! Are both this unit and the higher priced one from a year ago 8 bit color? Do you know if log will be added as an option?
Yes they are all 8-bit. There is no log option unfortunately. Color science is one thing lots of the Chinese company never get it right.
I hope you can shoot more videos in different conditions (soft lighting, indoors, in the evening and with insufficient general lighting and individual bright light sources)
And of course I would like to compare the picture with EVO.

I already pre-order it.
Does it have a built-in spatial video microphone, or is it just stereo? Which plug-in microphone would you recommend to avoid the fan noise?
No just back stereo mic. I won't bother even record internally. Use the Lav and mic jack instead
@@hughhou Thank you, very helpful.
Can we film in normal 3D format with this camera or can we only do 180° vidéos ?
In theory yes! But the firmware is not out yet for me to test. So I will follow up on this.
@@hughhouok thank you 🙏😉
Can you edit 3d video in final cut pro? The workflow seems to be all too complicated. I kind of hope the 3D XR future to be here earlier and disappointed by Apple not letting iPhone 16 Pros to support 4K60 Spacial video
Nope. 3D editing is only on Davinci Resolve - we have indepth tutorial on that topic - it is not that hard.
For budget 100-300 is there anything out there that gives you 360 3D VR
360? Used one maybe
@ think will try qoocam 3 ultra and hock one you choose qoocam 3 ultra or calf visene and why be major reasons
Listen to the words you are using. 3d. 360. VR.
360 is easy enough with a used insta360
VR isn't easy. Even this 1k camera is only 180 vr.
Only 360 VR cameras I know of a ~10K
You just spat out multiple words, with little comprehension
I just came back from trip to US with my Insta360 . First day I broke lens guard and last day broke camera itself. Hope some of the manufactures will make 180 or 360 cameras more "fool proof".
Still within warranty? Yes, those camera do need to handle carefully. It’s not a GoPro lol
How are you uploading directly to Apple Vision Pro??
do you buy all these pricy items by yourself? without sponsorship? :O
What you think about acer SpatialLabs eyes? Good cam?
The Acer is better than this cam for sure! If nothing better (Canon) comes out by end of year, I'll hopefully pull the trigger on either Acer 3D cam or ViewPT Realia...
Acer 3D is a 3D Spatial Camera not VR180 - so not the same category lol. I don't have the Acer but SAME SENSOR btw!
@@hughhou Perhaps other companies will release 180 lenses on Acer and then it will also be possible to shoot vr180, because it can record 8k 30 fps. But this is just a fantasy. The Acer hasn't been released yet, you can't buy it anywhere.
@@Voron_33 Or maybe I would stitch 3x Acer 3D's for 18k VR180 or 24k VR240 with help of some AI 😍
I'm not that picky about the edges, hence VR240 which should be super easy to do with minimal work.
Photo is okay. But a lot need to improve as I did not test photo mode that much.
Where can I get your sample video?
It is coming!
@@hughhou thank you 😊🙏!!
What are the pros/cons of calf gen 1 vs gen 2, what makes gen 1 better than 2?
Any update on when you’ll receive it? Would love to hear your thoughts on it so I can make a better decision if it’s better than my 6k EVO.
Any idea what release date it…anyone?
Sep 20th the earilest but they might push. It is festival there everyone is on vacation.
on the first generation of the CALF camera there were artifacts on low light shots and on moving shots. what about on this new generation ?
Yes that is still a problem. It’s cause by small sensor and it’s the exact same sensor as gen 1
@@hughhou thanks for answer !!! I will keep my two insta360 go 3 for the moment.
It has some nice features, but the color is horribly off, so I wouldn't be interested until they fix the coloration, it also doesn't look 7k of sharpness, and their website does totally advertise 8k, thanks for pointing that out, my Qoucam Ultra 3 I got last month looks way better
The specs and price on this 180 3d camera seem to make it the best option for non pros. Will they update the poor color saturation??
the Gen 1 had some terrible artefacts in low light and movement shot, is that one have the same issue ?
exciting times! i wonder how the quality compares to a diy setup using 2 GoPros or Insta360 Go 3 cameras, which currently seems to be the way to go for a low-cost solution. the calf would be so much more convenient to use though as it does all the post-processing for you…
Time is money. I'd rather hone on $-enhancing skills, or boost biz/profits in some way than waste precious time constantly syncing right and left eye.....
So, more stretched pixel junk at nadir & apex? 😩 Waiting for more updated info from you.
Yes just like the CALF 1 - it is the look this brand always has
They could have an option to simply make that area black? Or maybe just blurred to give your peripherals something to sense.
@@Octamed There is an optional mask built into the CALF-1 I believe.
You get raw fisheye BTW! Just mask it yourself in Resolve. Just a black mask will work. Easy!
Wish Sony also makes a VR lens too. Sony market is huge.
Look forward to see comparison with iphone 16 pro.
OMG, from day 1 I am pitching to SONY. But I don't know them and don't know who I should talk to first. If you have hook up, let us know. We build a VR180 camera with SONY Venice 2 for some major production before. But we can not do it without SONY blessing.
can you public a Calf 8K VR180 video for download?
Yes. Here you go. Just posted in ping comment: www.patreon.com/posts/calf-visinse-vs-111812676
can you public a original file from the camera. i have see in video settings fisheye and ERP. what is ERP?
what format is prefered for apple vision pro?
这项8k.VR180攝像机真的很好用,也很实恵,。讲述明白谢谢!
Ive heard you say that on quest 3 when using youtube we should go through the meta browser but couldn't figure out how to get more than 720p as this was highest quality offered in settings but video showed 180 immersive at 4k in description....please help. ❤
Footage of this new camera looks BAD... like realy blury and oberations at the edges... SO please be careful... i hope it will be fixed
i will wait for Canon
It should be something coming up soon as well.
@@alersito Or maybe whatever SLAM is working on. 🤞
Is something new coming from Canon?
I'm also waiting for something to come up by Xmas...
@@ramiefathy Allegedly something that is reminiscent of the EVO, much better specs.
There is a new firmware update. Hopefully it will solve all the problems. Download for Gen2 (10.31.2024)
Nice. Decent price too. Looks like a possible nice replacement for my insta360 evo
Nice product and it's good to finaly find more and more solutions to create VR180 content. If I understand well, this cam is also design to produce live stream up to 100Mpbs (in VR180 ...) !
The obvious question: is there enough FOV leeway for stitching to snap two of them together to make a 14K/16K 3D 360° cam?
oh no... You need 4 not 2
@@hughhou oh? Why is that?
It's good physical and mental exercise too 😂
3:41 Just a LITTLE bit thicker... it's like 5 times the thickness
Lol, okay it is. But mostly it is the lens. Still I stuff this in my pocket in a concert once - totally fine as it look like a phone
