- How to recover lost pictures from an SD card Even when its been formatted.
Have you accidentally wiped your SD card and discovered you had not downloaded some pictures? Maybe one of your hard drives has died and you need to find some images. Well don't panic. SD cards, even reformated ones, may still contain the data you want. In this video I'll show you my way of recovering them for FREE.

Both the above links work to the software I have used.
If you just have photos then RePicVid is great. If you have other files (music, audio etc) then try Recuva as it lets you recover up to 1GB of data for free.

What if I’m doing on an Mac
Thanks Gavin , I followed your video step by step and used the GiHosoft software and it worked a treat. I had a 16 SD card with about 200 images on it, that when i tried to download them on my PC they all had disappeared . Even when the SD card was put back in the camera no images could be found. Now thanks to you they have all been restored. Cheers

OMG! THANK YOU!!! We had 128gb of photos from six shoots yesterday for clients (all have already paid completely) and the MacBook ejected our CF card and wiped it. We were terrified for a moment....thank you so much for this!

My family and I were having a fun family day and taking lots of pictures when my phone told me that the SD card wasn't working right and was going into lock mode to protect it and advised me uploading the data to the cloud. Well, I restarted my phone instead hoping it was just a glitch and ended up "losing" 100's of pictures. After a little bit of a panic, I looked on TH-cam and found your video and saw all the other comments on how it worked well for everyone, so I decided to try it out too. All I can say is you helped me to save so many memories and I am so thankful because tonight I can rest easy knowing that those have been restored and I can see them again. :o) I truly cannot say thank you enough.

OMG!!!! Lord, I thank you!!! Somehow my memory card kept saying that it needed to be formatted. In my 7 years of being a photographer, this was a first! My heart literally stopped 😩 There was content from 2 events; a vow renewal and a birthday celebration (over 3,000 photos) My reputation was definitely on the line!! what if the sd card is requesting for format and we actually did that. is there a possibility that we can still retrieve the pictures in it?
As long as you haven't used it and the computer can now see and read the card you should be able to get the data back. If the card is corrupted though this will not work sorry.

So I accidentally deleted pictures by pressing delete all rather than import all on my iPhone when it was connected with a usb memory card thingy. Will this work ???

I'm using this method but it's not identifying CR3 RAW files taken with a Canon 90D which are the ones I desperately need to retrieve. It's only identifying jpeg and CR2 (taken on same card with previous camera) and a couple of other formats. Is there any way to broaden the search? Thanks for giving me hope at least!
I don't use Canon, so I am not sure of the difference between the CR3 and CR2 RAW files. It may be you need to try the other software I have in the description to see if it has updated the RAW file formats it can recover.
@@GavinParsons I gave up in the end. I've been using a Windows laptop while a damaged Macbook is sorted through insurance. I restarted it with SD card attached and it started doing updates. Then went back to the card to begin importing to Lightroom and a folder that had previously contained 700+ RAW files was mysteriously empty. Clients have been good about it but I've had to reshoot all the work. I now have serious trust issues with Windows but thankfully will receive a new Macbook in a couple of days and sanity can be restored if not RAW files. Thanks for your help, appreciate this method has worked for others.

My son passed 3 weeks ago and the hospital took photos for us and gave the SD card well it wasn't working and we thought we lost all those beautiful last moment pictures. But thanks to this video we got them back (minus a few) but that's ok! I'm just glad we got most back!!!

Finally stopped 😢! Vids/pics etc. were fine until I discovered after-the-fact, tht a mobile-carrier store "techie" somehow accidentally "corrupted" my Micro SD.. he's unaware of the issue! I'm a bit up in years, but refuse to be beaten by technology! Determined to retrieve my media! PLEEZE HELP ME FIX THIS!

If you are using a camera rather than a phone the one photo will not have overwritten all the data, so run the software and see what you can retrieve

OMG!!!!!!!! YOU ARE AMAZING. THIS ABSOLUTELY SAVED MY LIFE. We had taken photos at a family dinner, and my father passed away the next day. Before he passed, he had tried to upload the photos to the computer, but deleted them all instead. Thanks to this video I was able to recover the last photos I have of my dad. Sir I used my sd card before 2years and now after two years my photos are disappeared please tell the reason and I how to recover photos what can i do from india
If you didn't delete the photos or format the card then it sounds like the card has malfunctioned.. if your computer recognises the card then run the software in the video and see if it finds the photos. But I suspect the card has broken. Never just keep one copy of important photos on an SD card.

the software recovered the files but they are not opening. they have a .jpg extention. what do i do?? hepl please
Firstly sheeba, Don't panic :-).
So the files are there, great. Were they originally jpgs? If so try this, it may sound odd, but change the .jpg extension on one file to read .JPG. Try opening that file. If it works, just change them all.
If they weren't jpgs change the file extension name to what they were originally.
Get back to me if that doesn't work
SO pleased with this, I lost just a half dozen photos (I thought I'd downloaded them all but must have just missed a few) including a couple of my best ever shots of a seagull - small thing, but special to me! I've now recovered them successfully, thank you!
Sometimes the seemingly insignificant subjects can be our best images and I am glad to hear you've recovered them. Well done

OMG! My mom was really sad when the SD in her camera showed empty, ive been telling her for years to move them to the computer or change to the cloud, who knows why the files suddenly dissapeared. ive been looking aaaalll day trying to find a way to get them back YOU ACTUALLY HELPED ME RECOVED THEM OMG THANK YOU SO MUCH. ;;

Thank you!!!! Most helpful TH-cam video ever! It worked! It recovered almost 3000 files in total and took under an hour to find them on the card and store them on my laptop.
The only strange thing was that it identified my NEF files as TIF files, but I don't think it made any changes to the pictures. 🤔

For reasons unknown, the software was unable to recover the "current" photos visible on my SSD card, i.e. the ones I accidentally deleted (but which thank God I found saved elsewhere), but I've been able to recover some really precious memories from my old cards that I thought were lost. Thank you!

Many heartily thanks, dear Gavin! Thanks to your suggestions, I could recover all of the photos I had on my sd card which had been deleted!! I used the Gihosoft recovery tool. Anyway, the tool wasn't able to recover the original Panasonic Lumix raw files but, I am glad to have my jpg!!! Great suggestion, Gavin!!

Hey Gavin, tons n tons of Thank you. I had been on photography tour n lost one of the folder mistakenly while transferring to PC. RePicvid worked and i recovered my pics. I felt i was in ICU when i lost them. Thanks again, it worked.

Wow! What a blessing - after FIVE hours of shooting today... I accidentally wiped my SD card, pressing on the "All" button, instead of "the current photo". Man I could cry. However, I remembered someone telling me there were programs to recover wiped stuff, so when I got home I surfed around and I found this tutorial plus the links, I chose Recuva and lo and behold, there were my 169 files - thank you a million times for this vid! Made my day!

Thank you Gavin--this saved my butt as well as a 150 mile drive to re-do the photos. I didn't recover every photo but more than enough to finish my work. I had even re-written over the disk and it still found quite a few of the deleted photos.

I was just in a panic! I LOVE photos but always have some freakish event happen where I lose my photos. I recently bought the nicest thing I’ve ever owned and had a new $ 2,0000 Sony and it was stolen still new! I just got an old beat up Nikon going again and was checking to see if the settings were still where I’d put them when I used it a year or so ago and just deleted all the gorgeous photos I rediscovered. Thank you so much! I did a major stupid thing, not sure why my finger did that, while I was importing images/photos into Photo for Mac. Every search I found for recovering images from SD card went to apps/programs that only had purchase options. No real demos or trials. I found your TH-cam, downloaded the RePicVid program, and was able to use it for free to download/recover the lost/deleted files from tonight! THANK YOU!!!! All the other programs wanted $50 to $90! THANK THANK THANK YOU! Worked like a charm, and FOR FREE!!!!
