@@abmac58 1) Blowing air into the card reader 2) With a small prick tool or a small wooden stick (like an ice cream stick), covered with a microfiber cloth or the cloth to cleaning sunglasses, and a bit of glass cleaner. But take in mind that the 450D have other problems with the card reader. You need a compatible card (less than 32gb) and with the right size in wide, because the reader slot is out of standard. The best you can do is to try different cards and keep the ones that works with the 450D.
@@cnnvsr well it's what I find after owning two 450D. For some reason there are cards that work and other don't. As I noted the thick chonky ones work better, but you need to try and keep the ones that work. Remember that 32gb is the limit (SDHC protocol). All brands of cameras had problems with their first models with SD cards, like Nikon and the D50. But as I said, keep the SD card bay clean and keep the cards that work in your camera.
If you have checked your camera manual, and you are sure you're using compatible SD cards, then the issue may be with your camera. If it's worthwhile taking it to a technician, do so. There were a few people experiencing this issue, so I thought I would chime in. 😉
Great video first off. My problem is a little different . The sd card i have in my sony camcorder was working just fine i had a few recordings that are very special to me but i didnt see the urgency to back up the sd on my pc. Well im kicking my own ass right now because suddenly I went to turn on my camcorder and I got a message blinking that the media is non compliant that i need to format sd . well i cant format because it will wipe my videos so how do I get around this ? I have tried everything I know. Can you help with this or have I lost those vidz. Thanks in advance.
Tried everything, guess the card is just defective. Every time I try to take a picture the camera says “card cannot be accessed” and that it needs to be formatted, however when I go to format it on the camera a message says “Cannot format. Change card.”
Came across this issue as well in mine and and I tried everything but I found a temporary or even permanent fix depending on your situation/camera first do a hard reset on the camera (take out the battery and sd card and set the switch to on and let it sit for like 20seconds - 1minute ) then get a can of compressed air and spray in the sd card slot and let it sit for awhile as well, then turn the switch back to off and put the batter in first then the sd card and turn the camera on, you may have to do this process a couple times but eventually mine started to work again, it’s still finicky but at least you can take pictures until you decide to either send it in or get a new camera or this just might fix you guy’s cameras all together
Had tried all but the last suggestion before getting here. Card worked fine on the Laptop but not in the camera. Stuck inside so cannot access a new card. Problem was a small bit of plastic had bent across one pin. Pushed it back and all is good.
My sd card is a few years old but it was working late last year when I was looking through the pictures but then I accidentally took another picture on it and it hasn't worked since. Every time I insert it to my camera that it originally worked in it says that the sd card needs to be formatted and it won't connect to my iMac or MacBook Pro. I'm losing hope and have no clue on what to do. I don't want to delete all the pictures and images that I have especially since I have pictures of my late dogs and videos from my one direction concert. Is there a way to fix it?
You can get data recovery software that should be able to recover your images for you. I have not used it myself, but you could try some of the options in this article www.lifewire.com/free-data-recovery-software-tools-2622893. There are some paid options, too. I have a Lexar 128 GB SD card that I have not been able to format for use in my Canon EOS Rebel XS camera. I even did the format on my computer which said it was formatted. But when I put it into the computer, the camera said it wasn't formatted. Unsuccessful formatting on the camera. Do I have the wrong SD Card? Thank you.
Hello, thanks for this video. Neither my PC nor mac recognizes the (brand new SDXC) SD card with a card reader. I also upgraded the software for both computers, bought a new card reader that should be compatible.. etc... still does not recognize the card, even when I check 'show hidden files' in PC, or in Disk Utility in Mac. What would you advise in this case? Thanks so much
I hope you can help Barry I have a Finepix S100 fs and got a new SD card for it and even after following your steps it still says "card error" I am frustrated to say the least but hoping you can help
Barry thanks a lot for your video. I'm switching from a Rebel T5 to a Rebel T8i and I transferred my old memory card to the new camera. The red busy light takes several seconds to turn off. I suppose I should buy a new SD card? Or is it a camera issue? I have not formatted the card, I'd rather buy a new one and see what happens. Any advice? Thank you again.
Hi Myriam. Thanks for your question. I'm no Canon expert but that sounds like a pretty standard thing to me. The red light simply indicates that the camera is accessing the card. Are you able to take photos with that card in the new camera?
@@photographersfreedom Thank you so much for your reply. I was able to take photos but it took so long from one shot to the other. Finally I bought a brand new SD card, faster, and the camera works without problem. And I returned the old card to the old camera. Best regards.
I recently bought a Minolta Dimage Z6. I used the PNY sd card 32 GB unlock. This camera could not read it. I had do some research for the camera and upper limit is 2GB. Unfortunately I think the camera is still preference for lock SD card. For older cameras you might to look at SD cards that are more legacy than modern card Minolta Dimage Z6 was released in 2006 The SD card can be no bigger than 2GB Use Fat16 for Formatting the card. Transcend 2GB is formatted for Minolta Dimage series of Camera The camera can't be able to read a big SD card such as 8GB.
@@photographersfreedom It didn't work out for the Camera SD card reader is not working. I don't have the money to repair and it will cost more to repair than to buy a new version of it. no, better saying, my 60d shows the protected memory card error, but no way has been possible so far to remove this error, and I can't take pictures, I believe I have to take it to a service center.....: /
@@arthurlima9711 So, you are positive the lock switch on the sd card is not in the locked position? If it isn't, I would suggest going through all the fixes in the video. If you still have a problem after that, buy a new sd card before taking your camera to a service agent. 🙂
I appreciate these 6 possible fixes. One more that might be added: A 128 GB card would not work in my daughter’s Kodak EastShoot camera. Turd out the camera will only accommodate up to 32 GB. Check the manual before trying to upgrade a card.😂

Thank you for this video! I did the first step but it put the card in protection mode. I have a 128GB I’m thinking maybe it’s to large for the rebel xsi that i have. I might to purchase a 32 or 64 GB
My Canon RP has had two of those exact same SD cards from SanDisk and their build quality has become so bad lately. Both of them chipped on the sides from normal use (ie swapping the SD card in an out of camera and using a Mac port to read the files. 64GB lasted a little over 2 years, but 128GB didn't last 5 months! Now my camera doesn't even recognise them being inside. The moment I insert an SD card without any chipped sides, it works like a charm. These cards have gone down in their build quality.
What a wonderful person you are. Thank you soooo much for making this awesome video. It is very very helpful, though my problem is my SD Card that's not staying inserted. I am a Nikon user for years, and my husband gave me a new Z7ii 3 weeks ago. But now, I am starting to have an issue with having the SD card staying inserted, and my pictures are not loading to the same SD Card. My husband tried his new SD Card that's not been used, but it will not stay inserted as well. So what's up with this? do I need to tell my husband to replace the Nikon Z7ii to Nikon D6, since I am used to DSLR? LOL. But for real, I am having trouble and I am ready to throw this thing ( both camera & SD Card ) in the pool . Thank you.
Good tips. Recently my wife bought a second hand NIKON D600 and having once been a photographer (many years ago) and an IT Trainer set about to learn, so could I teach her. All went well, impressed with the camera but after changing from the AUTO option to SCENE and Portrait mode found after taking the SIM card out for copying to my PC. I now find the card will not be accepted, ie click in and the little green light close to it keeps appearing. Have gone through the manual done, on/off, checked the SIM is not locked (i.e. little slide tab) and I have used three other matching SIM cards but the camera will not accept any of them to 'fit correctly'. Appreciate any help, somewhat embarrassing with my background :-(

It's an old one, a Nikon coolpix s3300 and had this problem only this summer after all those years.. If you have a lens blower, try giving a couple of blows up into the SD card slot on the camera. There may be dust or grime in there that's causing the error. If that doesn't work, I would suggest getting the camera looked at by a technician.
@@photographersfreedom Thanks yea, I can veiw & import photos through the sony app and use the Remote shooting feature again. You definitely saved the day.
Hi Barry, thanks for the video. Really useful. I tried the first 5 and no joy. The problem I have is that the camcorder turns on without the card inserted. If I insert the card it turns off. When I switch the camcorder on I get the "Welcome" greeting initially then half a second later "Bye Bye" and it turns off. I don't know if the problem is the card of the kit. I don't have a problem with inserting the same card in my old camcorder. For my latest TH-cam video I used the old camcorder but the audio on that is always awful. For this particular vid there was music throughout so audio was more important than normal. I don't want to buy a new card if the camcorder still won't work. Any suggestions.
Have you gone through the troubleshooting section of your camcorders instructions? I've never experienced a problem like this before. I had someone else comment they were having the same issue with their camera. Maybe try Google and see if anyone has found a solution. Other than that, I would try a firmware update for the camcorder. Good luck.

I don't know why but my camera SD card was giving me errors tried all the suggestions you gave including formatting in windows, was about to chuck the card as nothing worked when my brother suggested trying to format in Linux so I did. When I put it back in the camera it asked me to reformat in the camera so I did and now it works fine with no errors😃.
Thanks for that suggestion. 🙂
Thank you! I think I might need a new as card. I do photo booths and I’ve recently experienced the cameras not syncing with the Photo Booth program because the camera gives me errors with sd card. I will try purchasing a new one. Thanks!! And subscribed!
I totally recommend the tip Nr 6 😅 after a numerous errors topped with anger I was about to threw the camera away too not just the cards 🙄 I have 5 SD cards and non of them are recognized by the camera and I can't format any in the camera either so I feel like in my case the camera is the drama queen. Thanks for this video, I'll format them all and hope for the best 😅
Thanks for watching. Good luck with your problem. Let me know how you go...
I have the same problem rn
You already fixed urs?
I have the same problem. The cards all work in other cameras, so now i assume the camera has physical damage and not the card
Well it would help if you told us if it worked or not.
Thank you, I just needed to reboot the camera when the micro sd card was in it and it worked.
Most common problem: dirt into the card reader. My old Canon 450d has this problem.
How do you fix that then in the card reader
@@abmac58 1) Blowing air into the card reader 2) With a small prick tool or a small wooden stick (like an ice cream stick), covered with a microfiber cloth or the cloth to cleaning sunglasses, and a bit of glass cleaner.
But take in mind that the 450D have other problems with the card reader. You need a compatible card (less than 32gb) and with the right size in wide, because the reader slot is out of standard. The best you can do is to try different cards and keep the ones that works with the 450D.
This is true. I tried cleaning it with soft eraser and now the sd card works.
n not
@@cnnvsr well it's what I find after owning two 450D.
For me, turns out SD card adapter for microSD broke off at the top corner. Canon T6i and computer reads it no problem, but Canon RP doesn't.
I have tried different SD cards but still getting this error. To me it looks like the issue is with my camera.
samee, did you find out how to fix this?
sameeee were you able to solve it?
Me too
So I can’t take photos with any sd card
Thanks for the compliment. As far as your problem goes, have you tried putting the card into a computer or laptop?
thanks so much! im new with all this camera photography stuff so this helped a lot! :))) oh and it was the formating that worked for me.
No problem. I'm glad this video helped. 🙂
The reformatting step worked for me thank god! I kept getting the error "Image database file is full". Thanks for the help!!
No worries. 👍
Tried everything, guess the card is just defective. Every time I try to take a picture the camera says “card cannot be accessed” and that it needs to be formatted, however when I go to format it on the camera a message says “Cannot format. Change card.”
You did check the lock switch on the card didn't you? Sorry to ask but it's sometimes the easiest thing to miss.
I have a canon eos t7 rebel
Same here😓
Have you tried the card in a different camera? Also check to see that the card is not too large for your camera, some only take 8GB or 16GB cards.
Had tried all but the last suggestion before getting here. Card worked fine on the Laptop but not in the camera. Stuck inside so cannot access a new card.
Problem was a small bit of plastic had bent across one pin. Pushed it back and all is good.
Thank you!!! You're the best.. I was going to buy a new camera🤦🏾♀️
Glad I could help!
If you do a Google search, you should find something to help you. You could also Google "data recovery service near me" and see what comes up. Good luck. Let me know how you go...

Thank you.
According to the info I got from a quick Google just now, that camera is only compatible with cards up to 32GB.

Thanks so much
Does the card work in your camera?
I hope you can help Barry I have a Finepix S100 fs and got a new SD card for it and even after following your steps it still says "card error" I am frustrated to say the least but hoping you can help
Make sure you check the sizes of SD card that are compatible with the S100 fs. You may be trying to use a card that is too large for the camera.
For older cameras you might to look at SD cards that are more legacy than modern card
Minolta Dimage Z6 was released in 2006
The SD card can be no bigger than 2GB
Use Fat16 for Formatting the card.
Transcend 2GB is formatted for Minolta Dimage series of Camera
The camera can't be able to read a big SD card such as 8GB.
Thanks for sharing this. 🙂
@@photographersfreedom It didn't work out for the Camera SD card reader is not working. I don't have the money to repair and it will cost more to repair than to buy a new version of it.

Hi Barry, my 60d doing all these procedures, the recording still appears on the protected card. If you know of any other alternatives. Thanks
Sorry Arthur, I don't quite understand what you're saying. Are you trying to format a protected card?
no, better saying, my 60d shows the protected memory card error, but no way has been possible so far to remove this error, and I can't take pictures, I believe I have to take it to a service center.....: /
@@arthurlima9711 So, you are positive the lock switch on the sd card is not in the locked position? If it isn't, I would suggest going through all the fixes in the video. If you still have a problem after that, buy a new sd card before taking your camera to a service agent. 🙂
Hello Barry, can you do a video on the best gimbal stabilizer for a Nikon D5200?, Thanks.
Thanks for your suggestion Reinaldo. 🙂

I appreciate these 6 possible fixes. One more that might be added: A 128 GB card would not work in my daughter’s Kodak EastShoot camera. Turd out the camera will only accommodate up to 32 GB. Check the manual before trying to upgrade a card.😂

Thank you so much! This helped me save myself from buying a whole new SD card! Appreciate it!
You are so welcome. 🙂
Thank you.
Are you sure that you are using SD cards that are compatible with the camera? Maybe check to see if this might be the case.

Appreciate any help, somewhat embarrassing with my background :-(
Have you checked that the camera will accept the capacity of cards you are using (eg. 16GB, 32GB)?
Hey Berry I have Nikon D3400 and was using genuine Sandisk card and all of a sudden it was taking pictures showed it once and when camera was turned on again the picture was nowhere found even in PC , i than bought a new card and took 70 photos camera worked well but again same issue happened

If you have a lens blower, try giving a couple of blows up into the SD card slot on the camera. There may be dust or grime in there that's causing the error. If that doesn't work, I would suggest getting the camera looked at by a technician.

Good luck.
@@photographersfreedom Hi Barry, thanks for replying. I took it to a PC repair shop. The owner did a really deep format and now it works. Will cleaning the card slot with contact cleaner damage the card reader? What should be used to clean the card slot?
I would just blow it out with a lens blower. I would not suggest putting contact cleaner into the card slot.
