RWBY means a lot to me and it has brought me an immense amount of joy. I've been fortunate enough to find a group of people who share in that same joy and they're the best bunch of people I'll ever know.
The production of OVA 2 was almost 2 whole years of some of the worst and most unfortunate circumstances, we went through it all. While I'll never be able to explain why it took as long as it did, I can say that we all faced tragedies, illness, obligation and just life getting in the way but we faced it together. It was hard and I'd never want to relive it but those hardships brought us together, showed us how much we mean to each other, that we're a team and more than that, we're family. I'll never find a greater family than in Project ROSE.
This is only the beginning you guys. Keep moving forward.
WEISS ACTUALLY FIGHTING AND NOT JUST STANDING THERE WAVING HER DAMN RAPIER LIKE A MAGIC WAND... Oh gosh, I've missed her so much. You've really captured old school RWBY, and it's fantastic.
Old School is Good School.
idk where the impression that weiss never uses her sword again comes from. she uses it in melee plenty even in the newer volumes, her fights with marrow in v7 and the chess pieces in v8 are notable examples of this. what's really hurting the quality of her fights is how much slower she moves in maya-era rwby. she lacks her acrobatic manuevers and bursts of speed. weiss used to fight like she's dancing, now she just swings her sword like every other character in rwby
@ivefeltworse88 Because she stands and twirls her weapon and lets her summons do most of the work in later volumes. I'm tired of seeing it and tired of RT being lazy and not using my favorite character to her full potential.
Yeah, fuck yeah bro
@@veilegoevery single fight she mostly stands still and uses a summon, whereas before she learned how to summon she was always zipping around and using her rapier. right now, her weapon is literally a glorified wand which she occasionally remembers has a blade.
weiss getting hit by pyrrha's shield was too funny 13:31

It’s still crazy how you managed to nearly perfectly replicate Monty Oum’s animation style.

I think is monty oum he is a animators who make the series rwby and animate rvb

I LOVE how pyrah used her stuck shield to pull herself into the attack. That's a smart move she would actually do.
Best way of showcasing Pyrrha’s ability to adapt her strategies in battle.
Bro they got the voices for Weiss and Pyrrha spot on, legit thought this was an OG episode for a minute
Thank you so much! I voiced Pyrrha and Ruby in this. I also voiced Ruby in OVA 1.

@@TinaMickel You did a great job, I thought you were the actual voice for Pyrrha, shes prob my favorite character, and I jumped at this as so few people like her/do stuff of her, keep up the good work!
same i kept saying "did this happen??"
I love how Pyrrha didn't need to touch Jaune's hand to get him up thanks to her semblance, amazing detail
Nice way to dodge having to fix potential clipping too. I’m taking notes.
I honestly thought that was an animation mistake because the black outline of Pyrrha's semblance wasn't apparent
Love how jaune was one of the last standing not because he was with her, but the fact that he has a lot of aura
He was the tactical punching bag. Bet Yang was too tired to punch after beating him up a bunch, LOL
I know! The fact that he can get away with being less skilled by being tough means that he has a lot of room for growth! Imagine how strong he would be if he could use that aura to its full potential. Man, I love the potential in this show. So many good ideas. It's actually inspiring how poorly executed the main show is post-Monty.
Or because they focus him less, because he is less a threat.

What?! Ren winning a fight? Blake using her ribbon gun efficiently? Weiss summoning isn't boring? Thanks for such a great video with excellent choreography!
WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME BLAKE HAS USED HER RIBBON GUN TO SUCH EFFECT OMG, NOT AS A OVERGLORIFIED GRAPPLING HOOK.
it's not a ribbon gun, it's a kusarigama or chain scythe
His SMGs still sound like they're shooting water balloons though

I wish Blake used her Semblance more offensively tho. Like how she propelled her body to attack in early RWBY.

I don't usually comment on videos, but this was something special. Thank you for the enormous amount of effort I'm sure was required to make this. Monty Oum was a huge creative inspiration to me, but I was always unhappy with how RWBY turned out after his passing. This video gave me back that show and that time of my life for about 15 minutes, and that's a priceless gift I wasn't expecting to receive today.
The comedy is actually pretty funny. Yang losing her temper and swearing in class is very in character for her
And on the match's board, Weiss Sneeze (OVA Ep N°1 : Names and Nonsense).
Also the part where Nora steals pancakes from Ren
Let's all be honest... REN ATE and he LEFT NO CRUMBS
My excitement is immeasurable and my day is made.
Freaking same XD
HONESTLY SAME
“i heard yang say a bad word” is one of the most in-character things I’ve heard come out of ruby in ages, like she’s still my fave through the whole series but as time went on I feel crwby forgot to let ruby be a little silly sometimes
Okay, I'll be honest I was watching this and thinking "Okay this is pretty good, very similar to how Mr. Monty did stuff" but holy shit, when Pyrrha used the fact that Weiss had trapped her shield in order to propel herself forward to it? Like that was absolutely insane, that's the stuff that I miss from Monty's work. Not necessarily the look or the style, but the attention to detail that he brought with his animation, the little quirks and cool interactions with how the characters fought. In that respect I think you nailed it perfectly.
He cared about his characters and made the effort to make them look cool. Monty and Kerry have outright stated they want the show to center around different characters and they clearly struggle to make the girls look or act cool.
So try that part was an amazing attention to detail and I loved it. I miss small things like that in fight it gives them more rewatch value, physics and world building
I agree. That was real effort, creativity and attention to detail shown here. Reminiscent of early RWBY under Monty. A real breath of fresh air.
Especially when compared to more recent tripe like Yang throwing her body at Neo instead of just shooting her, all for a BB moment.
Or that abysmal RWBY v AceOps fight.
Neo getting sucker punched by a farm boy, and so on.
Creativity and attention to detail have been out the window in recent volumes. Replaced with plot driven contrivance, lazy choreo, power scaling and lack attention to things like details, lore, etc.
i haven't been glued to the screen with a rwby fight since volume 3 . Amazing job
I'm so glad Ren is actually fighting like a mix of a martial arts master and a gunslinger. His fight vs. Blake has to be the best dual-wielding weapon standoff I've ever seen!
Also, I love the emphasis on the weapons. The way they unsheathe, reload, change forms, and fire in multiple ways really embodies what RWBY is all about. A show full of unique weapons that also HAPPENS TO BE A GUN!
They reload?
Fr
I think what kills me the most about RT is how they basically had a unique, visually outstanding world concept dropped into their lap and they turn it into the world’s least interesting dnd standard fantasy setting over the course of 9 seasons.
@@Appletank8 They don't really do it mid-combat, but you can see Nora loading in a new barrel of grenades at the beginning of the match. Details like that aren't even shown anymore, aside from the occasional spinning of Weiss' sword chamber.
@@malikoniousjoe Fr idk why they HAD to make it into a DnD adventure. Beacon can literally be written into anything with the benefit of it being a school. It gives the writers an excuse to show off multiple characters and concepts at the same time because they're all at school.
Whoever made 11:55 - 12:02 as well as 12:21 - 12:42 needs a raise. This is the kind of creativity, passion, and effort in animating a RWBY fight than what I see in the actual show

Okay, but the fact EVERYONE shone in that fight! Weiss using the glyphs to hold Ren in place, Blake's use of her ribbon, Ren's agility and strength, AND PYRRHA'S POLARITY POPPING OFF??? This entire thing ate, 11 out of 10.
Also appreciate the fact this managed to get across a pretty solid arc (heh) with Pyrrha's insecurity in only 15 minutes. Now that is superb.
I absolutely agree! I literally just got recommended this video randomly today, I've never heard of this channel or of this project. I'm so happy I got recommended this video as a Monty Oum Fan who really misses the OG RWBY Show with Monty Oum running it. I'm so happy right now lol TvT
FR
My mind was blown
Only thing the story lacked was somebody (Jaune even, woulda been great character growth) pointing out that she's been doing this at a competitive level for YEARS while he's at most a single year since he first picked up a sword. Like, his growth in skill is impressive, but no shit there's a gap, babe.
Not gonna lie the only one that didn't shine was Ruby herself, which I understand since her fighting style is hard to animate. And I can sacrifice that for some quality Weiss animation
...This feels like a fever dream in the best possible way. I'm floored by how well done everything is; animation, VA, choreography, dialogue, camera work, semblance usage, weapon usage! It's ALL so well-thought out and fantastic. It's obvious a lot of love and passion was put into this full-length episode (which is incredible in itself as well!). Several times during the episode, I thought to myself, 'wow, this should be in the show proper,' which I thinks speaks to how amazing this is.
Not everything is perfect; some of the walking animations were a tad janky and Yang's VA sounded off a couple times, but that's okay. Nothing is perfect in this world and I think you all have captured the heart and soul of early RWBY in a way many have attempted, but few have succeeded.
I can't wait to see more in the future (however long that takes.)
Bravo.
(Also, Ruby's line 'I heard Yang say a bad word.' is easily my favorite and sounds identical to Lindsay! Easily could have been an acutal line of dialouge!)
I voiced both Pyrrha and Ruby! I love any time I get to hop in the shoes of either but Ruby will always have a special place in my heart! I also voice Ruby in the fan project Dust Queen. -Tina
Thank you so much for the hard work everyone put into this. I'm always so honored when I get to voice Ruby Rose but even more so to get to lend my voice as Pyrrha as well for this. This was recorded so long ago but still so cool how it all turned out!

YEAAAAAAAAAAH! Absolutely sublime 1v1.

One of the better fights in this Fan Animation. 😊
Gave Ren more justice in like... 30 seconds than the show has in 10 whole years. Dude was cool for 1 scene in Vol1, had the best dialogue scene in volume 8, and nothing else. Even him being cool against the King Taijitu was one upped in vol2 by Fox doing the same shit using an Ursa as a grenade.
HA! Pyrrha's ponytail just spinning like a windmill!
I mean hey, that's how hair was in the early volumes. Yang's and Blake's in particular were...yeesh. I remember a moment where she was messing with her hair (Yang was), and it just all moved as one chunk. I turned to my friend who, like me, has very Yang-like messy hair, and we both were like "Yeah, that's about how it goes. Must be hell to brush."
@@TheCrazydude17It’s funny how I actually remember the specific scene you’re talking about.
I didn’t think it left that much of a mark on my psyche LOL
In Volume 1 the hair and cloth was all animated by hand, volume 2 was when they had Physics. Its probably why Noras Bow disappeared in the Action Scenes for Volume 1 and then was never brought back for Volume 2 onwards.
Ren was with it. He was on some sort of timing.

I really miss the OG art style, this is so cool!!
This really brings back the feeling of old school RWBY perfectly!
Full-marks on character through and through for everyone. VA’s varied in quality, but it’s a fan animation, so it gets a pass. What matters is that the characters shined through the dialogue and I was able to immediately get that original feel of older RWBY.
There are so many details about that last fight that I’m not sure if the animator and writer even intended, but the recognition of character just flowed so well that it probably just flowed in naturally. Or maybe the writers and animators are just that detail oriented. I don’t know, but it works.
Ruby was the fastest at the start of the fight, so she had the easiest time outmaneuvering multiple opponents and grabbed the flag. Her being in the fight meant we saw Team RWBY doing more teamwork vs when she gets taken out and they become spread out without proper leadership.
Jaune’s brains was shown perfectly in the capture the flag segment. And I believe it was Judgmental Critter that once said that portraying a character fighting poorly on purpose is difficult to do. The animator accomplished this with flying colors and fully conveyed Jaune’s progression, even if he is failing. He is still thinking on his feet and coming up with plans that should be feedings for his team, even if he himself is unable to perform at the same level at this point in his character.
This was possibly the best I’ve seen Ren fight in RWBY since his debut, which is crazy since this is a fan animation. Yet, I can totally see the skill gap between him and Blake easy, which is evened out with Blake’s semblance and her weapon’s reach. Perfection!
Nora’s every hit felt powerful as she is supposed to be portrayed.
Pyrrha getting a main character focus just fits right in fleshing her out more pre-volume 3 beyond her crush on Jaune, which we could still hints of there. Even mid-combat, we can see a difference between Pyrrha’s focus and Pyrrha being distracted and holding back.
Weiss was probably my favorite in how she was handled. The summoning is a departure from the original show canon-wise, but I can easily accept it considering the animators utilized it better in her fighting style vs how the original show does it. The flair and graceful flow that they give Weiss in her fighting style that semi-show-off-y yet also fluidly done as if practiced.
I would say only Yang was probably the least displayed, which just tends to happen with so many characters. I would say what was shown best about Yang beyond her hot-headed nature is her focus on raw power to a fault and her ability to roll with the punches (or sword strikes?), which feels like something Yang would do and something Pyrrha could take advantage of.
Everyone did their homework it gloriously shows in the finished product. Well-done!
it's one thing to mimic animation style, and it's another thing to replicate the fantastic fight choreography, but the fact the you are able to capture the characters and the tone of the early seasons is simply remarkable
Damn! Nora hit Ruby so hard it replayed 3 different times!😭
You know it hit hard when they replay it many times (combat sports/restling style)
Bro, the fact that this video did not get 1M views is a crime. The choreography and dialogue is god-sent. Earned a subscriber!
Just gotta share it around. It's still pretty early in. We weren't aiming for a million we hoped to get 100k at least
Man it's been a while since I've seen Ren do the palm strike thing yall did every character justice.
Hydro killed that section. I was so happy with Ren this whole project
The show's writers decided he would be more "interesting" without advanced Aura use, I suppose.
1:36 or so is one of my favorite moments of this fight, because it feels like a hit that *should* knock Pyrrha to the ground for a moment before she recovers and gets back up. Instead, she hits the ground in a roll, bleeds the momentum almost instantly, and rushes back in--which really sells the whole "invincible girl" thing just on an instinctive viewer level, I think.
I can not tell you how ecstatic to see everyone being used to their full potential, especially Weiss. Also Pyrrha tussling with her overwhelming skill is just such a nice touch. Man I just miss Pyrrha so much, I need more of this it's great.
I think I've unironically died and gone to heaven. This is incredible, and makes me feel a way I haven't since we lost Monty. You didn't just create something as good as the actual Rooster Teeth team, you massively surpassed it. Every character felt like who they were supposed to be, what they were supposed to be, and were on display with incredible animation and sequences.
Though it is a pipe dream, with the fall of Rooster Teeth I hope that perhaps a door is opened for incredible fan animators like yourself in some way.
The choreography in this Is amazing. You let every character shine with their strengths and weaknesses while letting their personality show through. But not only did you use their powers in the creative ways we know, you also found new ways to use them.
This team made something amazing.
Playing that little bit of Forever Fall while Pyrrha and Jaune were having the talk mid-battle really welled up those tears 😢😢😢 Amazing work!
THANK YOU Cake Station, Ren hasn't been cool since his first fight, and you guys brought back his danger sense and palm strike

I mean her name is literally 'Pyrrhic Victory' and is based of Achilles so I don't know how anyone didn't see her fate a mile off
I don't know, I think her death was necessary for the future of the show. Speaking from personal experience, you need the mentor character to die or leave the narrative so the apprentice can become independent and rise to the occasion. I disagree with the direction of RWBY's story post volume 3, but Pyrrha dying was a shocking and emotional twist that would have benefited the story in better writers' hands.
I can´t imagine the amount of work behind this, but the result is pure eye candy. Well done!
Love the tiny motions, I appreciate the care you put into this. It’s also good to see more of Ren, the guns make him seem very annoying to fight, he’s good at maintaining pressure while Nora does Dps.
Pyrrha: I am the Invincible girl!
Cinder: I'm about to end this woman's whole career
On one hand, this reminds me of what I had such umbrage with early on in the series---the main characters taking a backseat to Jaune and Pyrrha getting the lion's share of character development, and relationship development. On the other hand? Everyone cooked in the fights and it was just a joy to see everything I loved about the show also on display here. Y'all put on a show and really made my weekend seeing that. Made me wanna go back into making OCs for this and taking part in this thing again. Kudos to the artists, actors and everything between!
Crazy how a small group of fans can capture both the choreography and the characters' charm drastically better than the official studio.
Hoestly I actually am kinda curious on y they can't do much because I know it probably a time issue but it still kinda dumb to me like just give yourself more time I don't think people would mind waiting 3 months for a single episode like if the episode good then it should be able to support the next and the next and so on like I kinda don't like the newer rwby like you know how hard it is that a 15 mins episode just make someone tear up and cry I felt more emotional in this fan rwby than the official
@@maxrosefoxanime7225RT has been cheap on the show, funneled money into other projects, and failed to find and support the talent they need to make the show successful.

The animation is incredibly well done, the humour is on point, and the story feels like the first 3 seasons.
"Alright, that one felt personal" - Yang, after Pyrrha obliterates her for being mean to Jaune
The quality in the action is one thing, the characterization is something else when talking about how good this is. Everyone felt true to who we know of them in their writing, their performance and how they move in and out the battlefield.
A hallmark piece of work that I hope all involved are proud of, cause this is some of the best work I've seen of any RWBY fanwork in my lifetime as a fan, massive props all around.
Bro, that felt like the Ren Monty had in his mind but didn't get to show off much. Reminds me of his scene in the forest in Volume 1 when he fought that giant snake.
This might just be a fan project, but everyone understood their assignment. Great action, wholesome slice-of-life, and some fun/comedy. This is the stuff I stuck around RWBY for for the first few volumes. First found you with the Monty animations analysis videos however the heck many years ago that was. Now look at you. 👏👏
Thank you forever to the team for creating this wonderful piece and letting me be a part of it. And thank you to the audience for making our work feel special. ❤
Somehow you've managed to fix all of the issues ive had with rwby in one animation video. Weiss not being useless and popping off with her glyphs, Ren being a total badass and using both melee and gun attacks, Blake just being AWESOME because her fight style drastically got worse in actual rwby seasons, the whole choreography just being so seamless and well put together... thank you
This is peak fan animation right here, gave me pure nostalgia and made me feel the excitement I felt watching rwby for the first time ❤
this is really well done! i especially liked weiss’ bout with ren and pyrrha’s finishing move!
This captured the look and style of early RWBY so well, and it's not just the models making me say that. You've got an incredible eye for Monty's combat and animation style, and the little character beats ring true to each character. Even little bits like Yang's flippant attitude, Ruby being horrified at Yang's language, or Nora being a bit of a troll. You've so perfectly captured what made those early seasons feel like something special.
Rooster teeth shutting down. This will be legendary
Definitely should have got this in the show, I'm hyped!
this is too beautiful to relive Mounty's work, the original Vol1, the original fights and especially Phyrra :') thank you so much for making this.

Absolute cinema. Everyone who worked on this cooked their hearts out. Seeing an honest to goodness RWBY vs JNPR fight (while playing Capture the Flag no less) is something that has been sorely missing outside of the food fight. As far as I'm concerned, this is canon and takes place at some point between volumes 2 and 3. Bravo.
As someone else mentioned, I loved that jaune was a tactical punching bag . And was one of the last ones standing , he actually traded blow with black a fair couple times and even though he went down fast the fact there was an actual exchange shows improvement, and then he snuck yang like twice seemed to wear her out trying to deplete his aura .
Commenting to help engagement. This is video obviously is a passion project from true RWBY fans and makes me realize how much is missing from recent volumes.
The fight choreography on this is wayyyyy good!!!!
Its so nice and refreshing to know that you know the characters so well that their fighting styles really show within this fight! amazing work!!!
Lamenting over the loss of soul the OG series. This helps repair the cracks.
The animations, action and even the camera movements are SO reminiscent of seasons 1-3. Also the sound design is so polished and well done!
This is absolutely insane! I was NOT expecting this level of quality, the fight choreography was 11/10.
Pyrrha was done so dirty in RWBY, she was my favorite by far and this was such a great way to remember why that was.

This is just incredible. The love and nostalgia for the first three volumes came back hard with this episode. All the animations, the choreography, the acting- just everything; you all did great with it. What a splendid job ❤
While people are comparing this to Monty's work, I want to add that there were a lot of stylistic angles and ideas that exceeded even old school RWBY. Like at 11:08 how Blake's clone comes in the background at an angle instead of purely in the foreground at a different angle. She then proceeds to circle into the foreground. When Ren jumps over her and she steps back, she only moves back far enough and tracks Ren's attack with a behind the head block, to setup for the arm cut and followup leg cut. These moves are not only stylistically cool, they're tactically sound and stuff I've used in swordplay IRL (I do historical fencing).
Like the finger pointing angle at 12:38 with a camera slightly tilted for style is SO damn cool. Seriously love the personal flair given to her.
this is severely underrated. a full 15 minute episode, amazingly animated. you guys captured RWBY fight scenes better than RWBY themselves ❤
I wish Ren was like this in show
The way the fighting moves literally called back to the ORIGINAL “White” Trailer told me all i needed to know about this. And the voice acting is PHENOMENAL.
12:20 Bro! This is the best Choreography I've ever seen with Weiss like holy hell!
These fight scenes are the most Monty-coded animation I've seen since volume 3. Incredible animation that catches the flow and momentum of classic RWBY. Excellent writing, too. This would've felt right in place with the early volumes.
When the final battle started up around the 7-minute mark, I was in disbelief. Like, “are we seriously about to get HALF an episode of pure combat?? No way; they couldn’t...!” :O
And yet they did, and it was GLORIOUS! You and your team did an incredible job; I just hope it didn’t take too much out of you. ^^;
I especially liked Nora’s combat; I don’t think I’ve ever seen her fighting style look so “technical” before. I also thought, although the facial rigs weird me out a bit (I don’t like to watch Jaune’s mouth move...), Pyrrha’s expressions during her dialogue were particularly cute and well-animated.
This couldn’t have come at a better time for me; I’ve been thinking about finally doing some new-and-improved RWBY animations, and this amazing video is just the wellspring of inspiration I needed. ^^ Definitely gonna rewatch often while I work~
With this, you've beautifully captured the spirit of the first three volumes. You and your team here have done such a good job with this. I don't know how much farther you plan to go, but I'm here for it. Rest assured!
This is the best rwby content ive seen in almost a decade sighhhh the actual show could never return to its former glory and that’s so sad
THIS IS ACTUALLY THE OLD SCHOOL STYLE WE'VE BEEN MISSING, YOU'RE AMAZING.
