A brilliant review on a Car i never really took a fancy to compared to the Mark 1 KA, it just seemed at the time a ford clone of the rest of the range. Now it looks a sensible choice of car on the secondhand market for something looking to get into Ford Ownership.
Yes, back in the day, I don't think a lot of people would have found these particularly appealing, as they would have just said they can buy a Mark VII Fiesta instead, which has a slightly nicer interior. However, in today's secondhand market, particularly the ones with the four cylinder Zetec-SE engine, these are really appealing!
I had a 66 reg with 1.2 4 cylinder engine. Had a flat spot when pulling out into traffic, not nice. Now have a 69 reg one with 1.2 3 cylinder engine, much more drivable, no flat spot.
That's very interesting. I didn't notice a flat spot when driving this 2017 Ka+. I don't even know if a lot of people would have been aware that they even changed the engine in 2018!
@@lloydvehicleconsulting it was a strange one, but was there, felt like a slight hesitation. 3 cylinder much better, pulls well for 1.2 85 hp engine. Had a Ford Cmax with 1.0 ecoboost 125 hp, before the 69 Ka plus. No longer needed such a big car.
@@MarkHickman-y1u , I think that you are better off without a car with an Ecoboom engine, to be honest! The slight hesitation was probably to do with the ECU software...
Thank you for this video. Interesting car to review, I don't think that any of these Kas came to New Zealand! Strange, given the popularity of the first Ka here!
I am not sure that New Zealand really warranted the import of cars like these, as they are too similar to the Fiesta in some ways, but I am aware of the popularity of the Mark I Ka over there.
Hell Joseph , I like em in white alot , I don't think I would buy one over a fiesta as I'm not sure about build Quality. I've had many a Fiesta and always been happy with em and still have one now ( MK7 )
Sir, we have a lot of experience of Mark VII Fiestas. In fact, the basic channel membership level is named after them... This is definitely more spacious than one of those, and drives in a similar manner, but I understand why a lot of people would just stick with one.
Like a fiesta but not a fiesta Never saw that many on the roads here…..I always wondered whether people expected the KA to always be distinctive & little, like the first 2 versions and its rivals. If you’re thinking about this KA, did people think…may as well buy a poverty spec fiesta? Also, the front looks ok, but the design goes a bit wrong at the back…but, that does make it more useable for boot space and rear passengers. It looks a bit odd in some ways, but having said that, the dashboard & front cabin styling is very nice-like a fiesta. This reminds me of when VW replaced its proper city car, the Lupo, with a poverty spec Polo called the Fox. They came against the same problem, a lot of people just bought the cheapest actual Polo. So a strange so called city car, but I would drive it.
Yes, the Ka+ was not much of a success over here. Lots of people did just buy a low specification Mark VII or Mark VIII Fiesta instead, which were available with substantial discounts at the time.
It's hard to say. They have a bit of a different philosophy. There are definitely some yellow ones around. I do really rate the Picantos, but I like these too.
Would certainly be very cautious considering this model heard some horror stories concerning parts availability especially exhausts being horrendously expensive and hard to obtain. Can’t see the situation improving given its been discontinued now. Excellent review as always sir.
Ford didn't make this car for nearly as long as they originally intended, hence why there was a facelift in 2018, and then it was discontinued less than two years later. Prices of these and the Mark VII Fiestas do seem to have risen recently....
You clearly weren't paying attention during a crucial part of the video, sir, as if you had been, you will know that it doesn't matter at all, since it's almost impossible to get it wrong.
Kind of a more modern take on the Ford Fusion, sir. Can’t stand the majority of the Ford range at the moment, other than the Focus I wouldn’t touch any of their mock SUVs with a barge pole, and the EcoSport must be one of the ugliest cars ever made.
I don't think that they market the EcoSport over here any more, actually. This Ka+, with its good old Zetec-SE engine and Fiesta Mark VII platform, does seem to be more and more appealing as a secondhand buy these days, doesn't it?

Good Afternoon Sir, probably one of the best second hand cars available in this price range. Especially with heated seats as an option
Sir, an incredibly sensible secondhand car, these make even more sense now than they did when they were new!
An underappreciated modern classic.
They are certainly more appreciated than they used to be, I think.
Thank you Mr Lloyd.
We aim to please, sir!
I always wondered if the design of the Ka+ was initially a proposal for a new mark 7 or 8 Fiesta that was rejected.
Yes, quite possibly! These are much more spacious than the related Mark VII Fiesta as well.

Superb review, but where are we finding these for £5k or below?
I had a look online in the usual places the night before filming and found several under £5,000 for sale.

My wife has got a 2018 ford ka+ 1.2 zetec and the windscreen scuttle leaks water on top of the engine really bad
That sounds awful! Sorry to hear about that.
Hi Sir, I always used to see lots of yellow ones but I hardly see any now at all . I wonder if a Kia Picanto would be a better car ?
