Converting to Tubeless Using NOT Tubeless Ready Wire Bead Tires

  • Axel's rims and tires are not tubeless ready, but we did it anyways without anything but sealant. Ya, it's harder to do than using tubeless ready gear, but we pulled it off without buying the expensive stuff.

We've since done this with a pair of nobby nic wire bead tires and it worked even better.

It will work with a track pump if you wrap 25mm width gorilla tape around the rim. I had to wrap it around the rim 3 times before the bead was tight on the rim. Inflate the tyre to 25 psi & you'll hear the tyre snap onto the rim. Then let all the air out & flex the baggy enough to let you pour the sealant in. Inflate it to 25psi & spin it to seal any gaps. Bingo! Obviously take it easy whilst the tyre beds in & do it at your own risk. Worked for me

I might have to try this. My front tire, which is a TR Ardent Race went on easily, but the rear tire which is a TR Ikon fit's so loosely around the rim I can't get it to seat. I've tried air compressors and everything. The Ardent Race fit around the rim loosely also, but the bead popped on pretty easy with a hand pump.

Definitely gonna have to try this! I had no idea you could get away with just using the spoke tape!

don't crank that valve stem nut down with pliers unless you carry the pliers with you on trail rides, since you will not be able to remove it with just your fingers. tighten it only to finger-tight.

I attempted to do an id 30 mm rim and 2.2" tire but gave up, and went and bought a tube...If I did it with the original id 18 mm rims that came with the bike no doubt it would have worked...most TH-camrs only did it with tubeless tires but rims that were clincher...

i have the same tire and rim and it worked but you just have to check your tire pressure every 2 days

Non tubeless wire bead seem to do better trying tubeless. The kevlar bead non tubeless may not have enough strength to not blow off when running higher tubeless pressures. How I know, I used a compressor to bump up the pressure over 40 psi. Bam! blew off and stretched the bead.

How long did this setup last?

If rims pop, they are tubeless ready, so it will work. Older type of rims don't "pop" when seating tires. Those won't work with this method.

1:20 - if you can’t run tubeless cos the bead will not cooperate just squirt 40mls of Stan’s in your butyl or latex tube and basically NEVER get a flat, barring running over some kind of tire shredding obstacle (that would blow a tubeless tire as well)

Thx for this vid. Just did the same on my son's Giant Talon with the same rims and non-TR MAXIS IKON tyres. Worked fine.

Hi bro, does it still works after 5 months?

    • @arnaldo35
      @arnaldo35 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@aldovandenhaute2488 It works to a degree. They do deflate after a week or so, and some sealant does leak around the rim. But it's fine if you keep them topped up. My own bike (with TR rims and tyres) deflate over time also, but not as fast.

It works for awhile but your just wasting supplies. Might as well get cheap tubeless tires and not worry about the tires at all.

You need an air compressor for that high PSI burst to seat the tyre nicely
Otherwise just go to the local fuel station with an air pump. That should be enough hopefully
