Saw Blade for This Project: www.hisglassworks.com/shop/bla...
Turn an alcohol bottle into a pendant light! This fun tutorial will bring lots of light to your room! :)
    Supplies
    To Cut the Bottle:
    Wet Saw
Diamond Blade from His Glass Works Inc (online store)
    Bottle
    To Make Pendant Light
    Cut Bottle (or other vessel)
    Pendant light kit
    Plug
    Wire strippers
    Multimeter (optional)
    Wire Cutters
Select an awesome alcohol bottle to cut. To cut glass with a wet saw you need a special kind of blade. I purchased my 10” diamond blade here.
Cut your bottle by applying even pressure and slowly rotating it.
Clean up the edges if necessary by running it through a second time.
    Soak off the labels.
The cord I bought would not fit through the neck of the bottle. So I cut the cord near the plug. Make sure to thread this part through the bottle before you attach the new plug!
After cutting strip back one inch to expose the wires. There may be two or three wires depending on the type of plug.
I bought a nema 5-15 plug with screw terminals. Since this is a simple electrical job you don't need to worry about matching the black and white wires to certain screws. If you have a third wire (green) it must be matched to the green terminal (ground).
To connect the wires lossen the screws on the terminal, make a hook shape and loop around the screw. Once the wire is around the screw tighten back down for a secure connection.
Now pull the socket threw to the neck of the bottle. Insert a light bulb and you're good to go! Make sure that you choose either a low voltage light bulb or an LED that doesn't get too hot. They even make LEDs that look like the vintage filament bulbs.
To mount to the ceiling in drywall you can use a spring toggle bolt.
DIY projects don't always go as planned. I was plugging this in and one rolled off the table and shattered. Good thing I made two of them!

It does matter which wire goes to which screw, the neutral white wire goes to the silver screw otherwise the shell of the socket is hot instead of the tab at the bottom of the socket.

For the wiring...black to brass and you won't go wrong. Inside the plug, one screw is silver, one screw is brass colored. The black wire (hot) goes to the brass colored screw. Yes for a light it doesn't really matter but I always try to practice doing it right so it just becomes second nature.

I am interested in how to make a outdoor, wall mount version. Any thoughts?

Love the bottle pendant idea. Switching rooms with my daughter and I will be making use of this cool DIY! Good to see you doing projects! It's been a while. Thanks for the link on the glass cutting blade as well. Where did you get the colored cords?

Glad you liked the project! I bought the cords from Color Cord Company (www.colorcord.com/). Hope it goes well! You should post a pic of your project when you're done to my DIY FB page! (facebook.com/diywithcaitlin) would love to see it. Cheers.

But I don't want to cut a bottle! Where's that? It looks like the bottles have the bottoms cut off.

Your audio for this video is messed up, voices only come through right ear, can't hear anything.

Don't need a multimeter. "Black on Brass or it's your ass" - keeps your polarity correct.
