I have a Kona N among a few other vehicles. For the price and practicality it's a pretty unique and solid value proposition. I love the DCT for daily driving but it can still pull pretty hard when I need it to. Props to Hyundai for greenlighting this!
@@brianreardon7700 If the N74 is anything to go buy, I have hope for their future offerings. Hyundai also owns Kia and Genesis, who offer the EV6 and GV60 respectively.
I like how you guys don't even bother with the Nissan Z, as that car would most likely return such a disappointing lap time that it wouldn't be worth running.
I think we’re at a point where Hyundai and Kia with the new N evs on the way and other evs with 0-60 times of 3 sec luxury brands have some great competition.. other than if you need that badge on the front hood lol
Would be nice if the 230i got some love from CarAndDriver. They focus so much on the $30k and $50k cars and just skip over $40k cars. With the 230i lighter weight and better weight distribution I think it would be amazing on the track, definitely quicker than the GTI, WRX and Hyundai N cars.
It's not quicker though... Kona/Elantra N smacks the 230i and 330i on the street and track. This statement is based off facts and personal experience. The Kona N weighs 3340 pounds and the Elantra N is 3296 286HP. F-chassis 230i minimum weight is 3483 for rwd, xdrive weighs more, 248 hp. New chassis weighs even more with 255hp. I know you want a 230i but stop lying to yourself plehboi
the only 30i that is fast on track is the Mini GP3/z4/Supra 2.0 and thats because there either on a dedicated sports car chassis or made to be an uncrompamising track car the rest of the 20-30i lineup are tuned for luxury driving the suspension is sprung way to softly to be quick on track and it not really there fault there they were build to be a decently quick with acceptable perfromance with good nvh and luxurious lifesyle for the road use by excutive and rich ladies to drive around town.
The reason why those speeds seem to be slower is because you have a previously thought of speed in your mind. Both of you need to stop doing that because of what one of you said in that video. Those cars will be whatever speed they'll be, whatever you might think about what it could do on Virginia International Raceway road course. Another reason is predictions bearly ever come true. Neither should you compare the same car's different variations, all because it might have lesser performance.

The kona n is really special. Definitely a car I want to try.
Kona N is an overperformer pocket rocket for the price. The only issue is that Hyundai left out the soft ride adjustment for street driving.

Such a shame they went from sports car suspension to cruise ship suspension on this model. The 370 was much more taut.

All these EVs just look painful to drive quickly at a track. It’s as if they’re trying to hustle a 5000lb limo around.

i4 brakes held up because it's braking partly through Regen.
Would’ve been better to have included the BMW Z4 (vs the Kona N) to make it all BMW drivetrain.
