I think you're trying to connect dots between the outrage/censorship culture today (which I agree sucks) with his latest specials that aren't there because I don't think Chapelle really gives a fuck. Bill Burr was on his podcast the other day saying how much he admires Chappelle for not bending to the will of the hypersensitive.
Plus, he has been doing stand up over the last few years, he just bans phones so there's very little footage of it. I thought the specials were really good myself but each to their own.
