  • I was honored to have been asked to present at the 2024 Touratech Rally. This is the fourth year in a row that I've been invited back and I always have a blast checking out all the great demo rides and interacting with other riders. This year's presentation was an hour-long question and answer session. I fielded questions about my history as a rider, craziest motorcycling stories, my thoughts on Chinese motorcycle manufacturers, my favorite TH-camrs, and a ton of other stuff.
    If you missed this year's Touratech Rally, here's a chance to get a taste of what it was like to be there in person.

    Ben I just spent 1 hour and 4 minutes on this video. It was so enjoyable. I had no idea you did improv but once you mentioned it , I had that ah ha moment. This video just makes me want to make the trek to a rally you will be attending just to say hi. Ok All that being said it’s late and I’ve had a few gin and tonics. So maybe the video was just ok. I still want to come to a rally you are attending, so maybe the next California rally if possible. Your channel is the number one I recommend to newish riders or ones just getting into off road. I feel you and Ian do the best job of actual non-biased opinions. Keep the content coming. FYI in my opinion Billy Musick ( AKA Billma ) was the Godfather of Motorcycle Vlogers. His BWOM videos are classic (by way of motorcycle) keep the content coming and I will be watching. Thanks for being real.

    Ben, you nailed the mega-dealer situation! Revealing my age I was riding when it was mom & pop dealers that I frequented. And the mega-dealers bought them up (The franchise rights). The kids didn’t want to run it because the day of actually making a small dealer be able to provide the money to raise a family had passed. Also, mom and dad couldn’t just sign it over because selling it was their retirement. But, I’m going to blame the consumer in this as well. I know an individual that tried to start a small dealership and customers wanted him to sell everything at minimal profit! He quit after a few years. I know a small single line KTM dealer that quit and was over “The Dream”….The mega-dealers depend on high volume and sticking it to you when they can sneak it in. You know why Walmarts and their cheap stuff is in every town? We put them there and we have facilitated mega-dealers!

      I went over and tried some of the flying eyes. I loved them but they are EXPENSIVE. When I went to give them back I wasn't questioned on why I wasn't buying them or anything like that which hugely increased my respect for them as a brand. Really wish I had the budget for a pair but I simply dont.

    45:00 that brief touch on FortNine could not have been said better. I feel like their older videos were super informative yet artistic, and they developed a really good reputation, but their CE Armor video was the first one I actively disliked and I haven't been able to take their more recent opinions seriously because of it.

    Way cool 👍 I really enjoyed your video I recently stumbled into your videos and enjoy all of them but you definitely made a good point about motorcycles having good off road capabilities and not being so heavy and also the price is very important I would rather buy 2 or 3 motorcycles for the price of a big expensive motorcycles and everyone is definitely looking for that unicorn the do all bike sounds like the 450mt has come close but like you said some bikes do certain things better than others thanks for sharing your God given talents

    i have a silly but serious question. Here is a short back story of my situation back in 2020, I flipped a Ford 3000 farm tractor over on myself and was trapped under it for roughly 3 hours of it laying on both of my legs. which has resulted in me having to get a metal plate in my left leg, it is in the top left of my shin bone, the break was called a tibial plateau break. My left thigh muscle was also crushed, But here is the big question, is my moto bike riding days over? when I say over, I am not meaning the slow putt -putting around, I am meaning more of light enduro, single track, a little more on the intermediate side of the house. I come from normal road riding Harley ultra limited, Harley sportster, then back in June of 2024 I got a 2022 KLR 650 adv, and have been wanting to get into the off road riding style of the house. I hope all of this is making sense, because only I truly would know if I can do it or not. But I do not want to get into something that I am only going to be setting myself up for failure if you know what I mean

    • @DorkintheRoad
      @DorkintheRoad  5 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Honestly only you can decide that. I've seen people come back from worse injuries but your priority should definitely be your physical well-being.
      Fortunately, there's a ton of amazing places you can get to without having to do any crazy hardcore off road riding. If the leg is an issue, then maybe a lighter bike than a KLR would be better for you?

    • @Traillesstaken
      @Traillesstaken 5 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@DorkintheRoad Hi Joe here, thnx for the reply, I have had to lift the KLR a few times already it hurts the leg some but no more then when I lift the big ole Harley's I sometimes lay them down here in the driveway and lift them a few times, just to keep leg strength. The silly thing is that the KLR is 300 lbs lighter but feels like the same amount of weight. I might get CRF 300 or the KLX 300 next spring / summer I am leaning more to the KLX do to the taller 1st and 2nd gear box load and lane tracking over the CRF. Although the CRF has more aftermarket product choices. The wife says I have to many bikes as it is. I would trust your judgement on on which would be the better bike since you have ridden them all for the most part.
      and to tell you the truth by watching your channel is what got me into wanting to do the off road bike riding. I know I do not have everything built up yet but i have gotten a few things that you have mentioned as I use to be one of those take nothing but a stick and a wool blanket type campers but I have gotten a few items O' Neal rider boots, the big ole ugly green and yellow echo park 0 degree bag, I went with a Paria 0 degree down sleeping bag, the Arto pillow, nelson rigg soft saddle bags, i got a Paria 2 man hiking tent but l like to have room if im going to have a tent. so I like the cheap bass pro shop tent for the room aspect. but any who I am going to bounce did not mean to talk your ear off here.

    Dude didn't even ask that question about Chinese bikes in a political way. He just seemed to be asking if you thought they were going to blow up like Japanese bikes in the 80s and become mainstream or not. Given that a new rider strapped for cash can order a CSC tt250 for like $2k and have it dropped off at his door, I believe this is just the beginning. Plus as you stated, many big names build their bikes there, or at the very least source a good many parts from China.
