Everything felt so odd. Ancient technology, sandy ruins, parasitc life, mystic statues and altars. It felt like being Indiana Jones in space. Perfection.
Metroid Prime felt so odd and somewhat uncomfortable, it really did capture the vibe of "You're on a dangerous alien planet and you don't know anything about it."

The Chozo Ruins are where Prime knuckles down. Everything goes eerily quiet during the elevator ride... then the drums kick in as you step off, and it's go time. The reality of this place takes a while to fully sink in, but right away, you know you'd better keep your wits about you.
I was always uncomfortable in this area of the game. I felt like I was being watched or judged at every turn in the ruins. And to a certain extent, I think I was. War Wasps were the least of my worries once the shadows that prowled the ruins materialized and the ghosts of the past took up combat. One of the creepiest and intriguing areas in the game.
Tbh, I felt the same way. I first played this game when I was much younger, and I refused to play after dark because of how afraid I was. Revisiting this game more recently, I find myself preferring to play in the dark simply to better immerse myself in a beautiful world, not lacking in detail despite being over 20 years old at this point. The music can really add to the atmosphere of a location. It isn't all in graphics. I'm glad that most games in the series seem to understand that.
I re-played the whole Metroid Prime trilogy during this quarantine and got 100% items in each game. I can't wait until Metroid Prime 4. Metroid fans are fam, love you guys.
This music tells everything about the civilization it depicts: the otherwordly-sounding whistle for the shroud of mystery which surrounds the Chozo's disappearance, the chorus-like background for the spiritual heights they reached and what they held sacred, the percussions for their everburning desire for progress and knowledge, inevitably clashing with the greed for power. Majestic.
Got Metroid Dread for my birthday as my first introduction to the series, I loved it so much I went and bought the prime trilogy on my Wii U, gotta say the first game has really held up well to the test of time, its so much fun so far! Chozo Ruins is an absolute BOP.
What people forget is that this was the golden age of console gaming. Competition wasn't anything like it was or is now. SEGA was out of the picture. PS2 didn't suffer from a limited library like the PS3 did. Xbox didn't have the hardware problems that the 360 had. GameCube didn't fall into any of the advertising mistakes that the Wii U had. All it was was a competition to see who could make the best games and man did they deliver. Metroid Prime, Mario Sunshine, Melee, Sly Cooper, Halo 2, Midnight Club... Those were the days. No one falling behind for the other companies to boost themselves: just good games being made regularly.
I would agree. Not "the" golden age, but, definitely one of the best cycles. GC was a horrible underdog with its mini DVD format but had fucking amazing games!! Eternal Darkness, Metroid Prime, to name but a few. Who would have thought a US studio could do this title justice....
Holy shiet. You're right. 100%. Every game you mentioned are in my top games of all time. (Don't forget time splitters too) What an epic era of gaming. I really miss those days, man.
Señor Criticon You're misunderstanding. Yes, better games have been made, but what I was praising was the era. EVERYBODY was making good games, games that still hold up today. Competition was actually competitive, as companies had to do more than just mooch off the failure of another brand. And it shows with really solid games from the ERA.
I'm pretty sure his main argument wasn't that all the games were better, but that the gaming industry itself was better back then. It was a time where 3D games were just being perfected and developers were expressing their creativity with new technology. A time where reboots, military shooters, and pay-to-win shovelware weren't flooding the market like it is today. Almost every multiplayer game had splitscreen, every console had a variety of exclusives unlike today, and expansion packs actually added value to a game unlike DLC and micro-transactions. Also, Payday 2 and Warframe don't even compare to the games Armydillo62o mentioned above, or Metroid Prime for the matter. You could of picked some actual good games that aren't pay-to-win, like Dark Souls or Wolfenstein TNO.
I love how when you first enter the ruins its very quiet and eery, but after you leave and return this track comes on and it's like ok girl you got this. Tallon over world does the same thing, and its fantastic about boosting your confidence and showing that you have made progress. I think if phazon mines had a similar soundtrack after beating the last boss people would be more likely to revisit it again.
Lol, I was very afraid to die every time I played this game. Eventually, I kinda avoided it, but then i came back to it. Loved it! the immersion was so good. I remember when I was at the Phazon Mines, I would shiver and get a little nauseous when I had to travel from the beginning of the Phazon Mines to the area where you fight the invisible security drone.
+Kevin Anaya I experienced the same thing. This game was so creepy in the fact that all of the creatures were hostile and in some way disgusting. Like how everything in the Chozo Ruins was toxic such as the Toxic Tangleweeds or the Blastcaps. Such a great game
I would have loved to beat the game. Unfortunately, my game had a glitch where one of the chozo artifacts was replaced with a power bomb upgrade, so I never got all of the artifacts and couldn't finish the game
Pretty much every track from this (greatest game of all time) is insane i remember when i was a kid i got stuck in the chozo section for days because the music makes you think that there is a big mistery( way bigger than just clearing out rooms) that i was searching in places where it was impossible to do anything just because the music made me think something had to be found.
Though your profile pic was zoro from one piece for a bit I was ready to compliment you about the nice profile pic Then I looked at your name and realized it was the scout But that's still pretty cool so nice profile pic
came back to listen to this. I still love this theme to pieces for so many reasons (the way "sandy" sounds are mixed with animal screeches and techno-y sounds, that permanent echo at the back of the song that's almost like the wind blowing, the mysterious vibe it has since you're basically discovering Samus' s past while you search for lore and know more about the Chozo...). This song talks to me, it tells a story and has such amazing progression.
If you listen carefully, you can hear a two-note chanting theme (and a phyrgian melodic theme) that reappears in the darker/scarier portions of Chozo ruins (slower and more ominous of course). GOD I love this game.
This tune sets the scene so well- 'everything's dead' it seems to say. It's moody and, like the level itself, full of promise of mysteries to come- an excellent accompaniment to the Chozo Ruins.
We were blessed in those days, great games with unlockable content, early internet without social media throwing 5 millions different things at us per minute. The three consoles Xbox, PS2 and Gamecube had different designs and libraries each. It's good to come back here every so often
this brings me back to the forest I used to go in, the smell of french vanilla coffee around 5:00 in the morning. Man, music brings me back to a lot of times. It's a reason why I love music =)
Man, I remember playing this with my purchase of a Game Cube. I played this back when I was in 8th-9th grade or so when I took an Advanced Biology class. You have no idea how much of what I learned in that class resonated with this game. All of the concept art really spurred thoughts in my mind about how alien biology worked.
I must say that Metroid Prime 1 is really what broke me into the rest of the series, I mean corruption 3 was my first oddly, but I remember not knowing what the hell was going on or what to do because I didn't read shit, and then being stuck on the pirate home world caused me to take a long ass break in which I used the time span to get Prime 1, luckily that time around I found it a necessity to actually scan around and read the logs about Tallon's interesting history, the Chozo, and the Pirates so when I beat this game for the first time I was ready to tackle 3 again.
Such an ingenious soundtrack for the first main level in Metroid prime. Really gave you motivation to keep moving and exploring and gave you a strong sense of wonderment, and that slightly Erie feeling of being completely isolated. It felt like as if the sounds of the environment were emitting this soundtrack like it was natural
When I got this game, I was surprised about the graphics. The graphics are so realistic. Not like modern games where everything is so shiny. This game had real graphics.

I always thought this one was cool but lately I’ve come to really find that the composition slaps hard as hell. I’ve been listening to this one again a lot
You make it through the Tallon over world without much trouble, if your like me you were still getting used to the controls. You find this elevator looking thing, seeing as there is nowhere's else to go you hop on and enjoy a cool yet almost ominous transition scene. You come out of the elevator and find yourself in some kind of ruin, the game senses your confusion and you are treated to a little cut scene that reveals this place is called chozo ruins. epic music, game play you've bought a gem.
This game really showcases what happens when developers and programmers pull out all stops and create an awesome experience. This game is an absolutely timeless masterpiece! :)
Love how these pieces of music really give of the feel of the area. If I played this for someone who couldn't see the title or has never played the game they could get the feeling of the location from these. For example, Chozo Ruins here has a very empty and desolate vibe, what with its repetitive percussion and minimal sound effects on top of the airy synth music.
Its like the music wasnt just music, it was also the sound effects for the enviroment. It made perfect sense, and set a great mood for the game. I suggest everyone viewing this to buy Metroid Prime Trilogy, support Retro Studios

Ooh, I see. I haven't encountered any problems with that door at all (I have 12 hours worth of gameplay) so I think it was fixed.

wait.. was it on that orange tunnel???? In the chozo ruins?
TheSeanminator It's the one in the middle to the left, it sometimes takes forever to load it, and sometimes when it opens, BANG, it crashes, but like i said, it was only on the GCN version.

If Metroid Prime 4 doesn't have this kind of soudtrack Nintendo mind as well not release it at all! One of the coolest soundtracks ever!
Metroid Prime...
Such a great game :3
I am one of the many lucky people to get a copy before game stop "STOPPED" selling gamecube games :P

TELL ME WHERE YOU LIVE, NOW!!!
This is by far my fav song from the entire games sound track. Even tho all of them are amazing. This one is just so chill and ambient.
This game brings back so many memories, like we had no memory reader for some reason and if we turned it off it was over. Dang this takes me back.
one of, if not, the only games that made me enjoy scanning things
currently replaying this game after maybe nine years.......So classic.....and this track....O my god.........love how the drums come in/it becomes more upbeat after you start getting your gear back....
One of the finest games ever made, such good memories :)
This music sets such a mood that I will never forget it all of my life. One of the best games and best soundtracks of all time, period! Any other opinions are obsolete.
You come out of the elevator and find yourself in some kind of ruin, the game senses your confusion and you are treated to a little cut scene that reveals this place is called chozo ruins. epic music, game play you've bought a gem.
same here. i just cant get over how awesome this game is. the music is so awesome as well
This game really showcases what happens when developers and programmers pull out all stops and create an awesome experience. This game is an absolutely timeless masterpiece! :)
Metroid Prime has so fitting music to every moment its near perfect. Everybody should try this game at least once.
Prime's Chozo Ruins is my favorite area in any Metroid game. Just messing around in Main Plaza while listening to this mesmerizing music...
Such awesome music!! Could jam to this all day! Reminds me of the first time I played this game!
First time playing this game and I had to look up this theme after getting the Morph Ball, it fits so well
This brings back memories... for some reason I always felt sad when I saw all the architect of such a powerful civilization crumbling to dust.....
the soundtrack to this game is phenomenal, i wish other games were like this and had soundtracks like this.
This is one of the most unique and interesting tracks I've ever heard. I loved it then, and I love it now.
i remember (and still do this sometimes) just turning the game on and letting the music go while i do other stuff, then move to a different area when i wanted a different song going. switching tracks has never been so cool
i love this song, had it on my comp ever since playing it when it first came out.
this song also reminds me of LOADED, that old PSone game
