Our son lives in Mexico (Yucatan) since 2018. They had a top loader, like the ones in the US (I know them, because I had a californian girlfriend for 6 years). That thing broke, while we have been there for holidays. His wife (mexican) wanted again a top loader, because she knew that technic. So, we went shopping. The one, she wanted to have (a better model in US-style) was about 9.000 pesos. The one, we would have picked (Samsung front loader - a nice and good machine, for 12 kg laundry) was 12.000 pesos. My wife and me were clueless, why in earth anybody would choose the top loader. So we offered to pay the Samsung - and we got it ;-). Our daughter in law kept beeing skeptical. A few days later (since it is very hot there, they have a lot of laundry) - our daughter in law was totally convinced and happy, that we persuaded her. The laundry is much cleaner (some stains of oil and grease in the DIY-clothing of our son, which have been there for a long time, where gone at the first washing with the new washingmachine). The first days it was really hard. We told her to use much less detergent than in the other one. But we could not convince her to use less than half of the amount. Foam everywhere. We needed the function "rinse" - just water to wash out too much detergend for a couple of times, and it was still not ready. We told her not to use more than 20 ml (like a shot glass). That was the try with the DIY-cloths of our son. And it came out cleaner than ever before. If you are looking for a efficient machine - you HAVE to choose a front loader. It might be more expensive to buy. But you need much less water and only about 20% of the detergent. And you use a washingmachine for 10 years. Think about, how much you safe for water and detergent during this time. Way more than 3.000 pesos.

I am from the uk and you hardly see top loaders unless it’s a b&b or hotel. Seen them more in the 90s when I was kid. One of my first machines when I moved out was a hotpoint top loader given to me for free and it was loud as…. Lol but great I actually thought the clothes come out drier , cleaner and quicker than a front loader it was a 1050rpm. Only had it year and then it was leaking a lot from corrosion of the cast-iron tub. But in that year I loved it. But it used an enormous amount of water. It was shocking 😳😨🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️😂 front loads use half the amount of water and electricity that’s definitely true!
But I got an lg direct drive 8kg drum and 1400 spin and everything comes out clean and just damp really after a full 1400 spin. I probably wouldn’t have a top loader again but it was a good experience using one and was new to me , as always had front loaders. I don’t know anyone over here who has the pedestals it’s just you guys over in the us 🇺🇸 we just put the powder/liquid etc in a the cupboard next to it.

Sadly looking back at how much Germany and America have always benefited from being in the forefront of technological advancement and how they have larger bigger better products in their own countries than the other countries in washing machines and tumble dryers and fridge freezers and cookers are a lot bigger than We have in England and more reliable than ours. We have smaller products that often don’t deliver what they claim they do and they are pushing new heat pumps condenser dryers that don’t work well in the British climate and are not designed to work in cold weather and rooms that have no heating systems that apply to many homes that have no where to place them like the average kitchen and the brick shed and garage that have been the places for people in small older houses have housed there dryers and finding out what useless appliances are being made of supposedly better quality appliances that are energy efficient appliances that is not true for A they don’t work below 50 degrees Fahrenheit and in lower temperatures and in freezing temperatures they don’t work at all and the running times for example a 8 kilogram loads of heavy cotton fabrics like jeans and towels of taking over 4 hours to still be damp based on the spinning cycles of the laundry and washing machines and using 1400 spinning speeds for hours extra than the conventional dryer’s like vented or conventional condenser dryer. I have purchased this summer in 12 June 2022 a new heat pump dryer for during the wet rainy days of summer and autumn which is what you have a dryer for, but the length of drying cycle and keep extending the dryer time for not being entirely energy saving equipment. The past couple weeks have had constant colder weather and week of frozen freezing cold days in not rising above freezing, and my new dryer did not work for only being 30 weeks old and under the manufacturer warranty. I have had a engineer come out to inform me that he could not find a fault for his recommendation to say it doesn’t work in temperatures below 50 degrees Fahrenheit and reason for taking longer than expected to simply move it indoors to sell it and get another dryer to normal dryer having always worked for years in cold kitchen and utilities room without having heating and the same thing in this country where they have installed heat pump heating system in homes and sheltered houses complex for elderly people with my own town hall and the past few years every time it’s cold weather and elderly residents have no heat and hot water in their social housing rental properties from the local council and this past two weeks yes again in the local paper that people are freezing again in the same complex after having new heating systems installed and before never having a problem with asking questions when we are being told to save energy to turn down the thermostat on our heating systems and turn down radiators in place bubble rap on our windows to be energy efficient for the governments pushing global warming and climate change policies and I bet that they are not reducing their energy consumption to have heating in their homes and air conditioning units and expensive washing machines and tumble dryers that are not heat pump machines and understanding economics of technological change in creating less efficient appliances in keeping their economies going to produce products that don’t last and cannot be repaired and mounting waste from greenhouse gases and climate change is a bloody lie to keep a few thousand people wealthy.

In America even front loaders doesn’t have water temperature feature and they don’t do nearly as good job as the ones in Europe! They simply suck and is very agitating that they make them so poorly!!

Agreed! Just do a load in ANY washing machine model sold in the US. Then wash out that stuff by hand. You'll be wanting to throw up, seeing how dirty your laundry was AFTER being washed.
