      I came here to figure this app out. I don't know why my daughters phone doesn't lock when it's supposed to, why she's able to unlock it when I lock it and more. I so far am not having good experience.

    • @HowToDoItTech

      I hope I can help. There are two ways to unlock and award more time : 1. Using the parent app and 2. Inputting the parent password into the child's phone.

    why do I have a lot of time on the Google app, that i cannot restrict? (and this is takin from the daily limit that i set ) making the experience very stressful

    • @HowToDoItTech
      @HowToDoItTech  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi. So, you can go to the app itself and set the limit, lock the app, of set it to unlimited time. If you go to App Limits>the app you want, you can tap on the app icon and then set one of the three options. FYI Your daily schedule will override the limit of the app.

      @@HowToDoItTech thx, but the app is google, that I cannot edit on block or always allow..I think now it might come from Google assist, and that is registering time, i disable it for my boy this morning. Hope it works

    so is there access to mirror screen child's device or notifications he/she receives or access to messages/chat content?

    • @HowToDoItTech
      @HowToDoItTech  ปีที่แล้ว

      No, there's no way to mirror the devices. For messages, if your child's apps have a chat function you won't be able to see them. If your child uses Kids Messenger, you can set it up to review chat content via the app but not using the Family app. Hope that helps!

    I have an aftermarket android car stereo. I use family link to track my car's location and lock the radio making it useless, especially if it ever gets stolen.

    On my family link, it says the device has had no access for two days, but it has been used each day

    • @HowToDoItTech

      Hello there... that very much sounds like a bug. You could try removing and adding the device back again. That *might* help.

    Helpful and clear overview, exactly what I needed. Not sure if you have another video but it would have been so useful to know if/how to set this up for laptops. I'd like to be able to lock down my son's laptop with approved websites only. I like that I can give restricted access to TH-cam as there are so many videos that aren't for kids but are still okay for kids, my older son likes science and my younger son loved Michael Jackson and you can't get many of these videos on the TH-cam Kids app.

    • @HowToDoItTech
      @HowToDoItTech  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you! This app will definitely apply to Chromebooks but for laptops using Windows you'll need to use Microsoft Family Safety instead: th-cam.com/video/g2aReKVkE-A/w-d-xo.html

    I wish you could go indepth more with always allow feature. What would be the purpose of clicking allways allow that feature vs. just leaving it blank with no time limit?

    • @HowToDoItTech
      @HowToDoItTech  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi! Thanks for the feedback. So, with apps you can set Block/Set Limit/Always Allow. This is your ability to control your child's access at an app level. However, if If you set 'Daily Limit' to 'No Limit' your child can still use the device and other available apps. Side note: Downtime will override 'Always Allow' so if you set Downtime to be 6pm to 6am, no app is available in that period.

    I can't find how to change my daughter's phone timezone. Could you help me? It says that it's activated by admin, so even if I change in her phone, it returns to the preview set. And in Family Link admin page I can't find nothing that changes that. Thank you.

      Hi. That is interesting. I've just tried to change it on my daughter's tablet and it's letting me to do it there. I did see online that someone else is having a similar issue. What device is your daughter using?

    • @CarlosEduardoPauluk
      @CarlosEduardoPauluk 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HowToDoItTech It's an old Motorola G5S. But if your daughter can change the configurations about date & time, couldn't she mislead the time that you define until the device will be blocked?? (sorry my bad english)

    • @HowToDoItTech
      @HowToDoItTech  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe it uses your device clock to manage your child device. I'd have to put this to a test however.

    • @CarlosEduardoPauluk
      @CarlosEduardoPauluk 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great video.
    I would like to ask if there is a way to have different time constraints on 2 different devices?
    Example: phone and tablet under same kids name.
    Currently the preset time is simply split half/half between both devices, without an option to differentiate...

    • @HowToDoItTech
      @HowToDoItTech  ปีที่แล้ว

      No, not that I've been able to test. My kids devices are tablets/Google TV/Chromebooks, which have their own funny idiosyncrasies when it comes to time management (hopefully fix this). At the moment, it just seems to be universal time control.

      Sadly, there are limitations to what you can control from a parent Android device for a child's iOS device. Check out this link for more information: support.google.com/families/answer/9037996?hl=en

    I thought I was on the safe side when I limited my child's time to 45 a day. I just found out that I was tricked by my ten year old as he was using the whole for multiple hours without Family link registering it. The trick he used was to open Google Chrome and access all his favourite content, including TH-cam through the browser - Google Chrome. And apparently you can not limit the usage of those apps, and the usage of those apps does not count towards total screen time. That renders the whole Family Link app useless - is there a workaround? Is there something I am missing?

    • @HowToDoItTech
      @HowToDoItTech  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, you're right about the app only restricting app time. If your child is using a Chromebook you can limit the time for the whole device but not individual websites. One thing to try might be to block TH-cam on the Chrome browser and install the app on the Chromebook instead. In theory, you should be able to control the time on the TH-cam app as if it were on a phone or tablet. I'll have to try that myself. Also, not sure if you're already aware but you can set up parent controlled accounts for TH-cam (but it only affects content controls)

    • @Mr.DragunCop

    Does it work with android having parental control over ios

    • @HowToDoItTech
      @HowToDoItTech  ปีที่แล้ว

      In theory, yes. Anything logged in with a Google account should be controlled by Family Link. It'll probably feature less functions than Android to Android but largely it should work.

      Unfortunately I believe the interactivity is geo-locked. Probably for security reasons. This seems to be the case across all Google Services for any accounts where users can be connected.

    How to log child into the Family Link app ? My child use my old phone. She download app with my mail address and my permission. Now, I download App Google Family link on my new mobile, for the first time. Is it possible now to make control on her mobile now, or I have to download App on her mobile again with my permission?

      Once you have set up your child with their own Google account, you'll add them to your family using your credentials on myaccount.google.com. Then log into the child's device with their credentials and you'll have parental control.
