    Great build. I like the emphasis on early game and leveling power before it fully comes online. So many builds are powerful at level 10+ but are a real slog to level.

    The thing i appreciate about your build videos is that the character levels are more or less appropriate for the part of the game you're showing. So the damage numbers are realistic. I've seen a bunch of videos where it seems like they're used a trainer to hit max level in act 1. Thank you!

    The AOE spells are already nuts. Combining Lightning Bolt & water just trivializes most combat encounters lol. The linear scaling on spells like LB & Fireball puts out some huge base numbers on upcasts.

      It's fun for a while but I think you'll quickly learn that the opportunity cost of using those equipment pieces is a little too high when moving into the later parts of the game. You need to generate enough lightning charges in one attack for it to not automatically discharge after obtaining 5. Even with vulnerability, the equipment will only give you +10 damage, eating into your action eco with its required set-up. Fun, but not good.

    Been playing this build (without Fighter levels) in my multiplayer game. A nice bonus I found is that Chromatic Orb (Lightning), by itself, already creates a puddle of water around the target. It's much smaller than Create Water, but sometimes it gets the job done.

  • @HumanKatamari

    There's a very good reason that Githyanki lend themselves well to gish classes:
    The term originates in the Dungeons & Dragons (D&D) game, where it originally referred to a Githyanki fighter/wizard combination. Gish is still an official term used in D&D referring to this, but is also used to refer to any character who has a martial/spellcasting combination of abilities.

    Luck of the Far Realm can make chromatic orb an instant crit, which is extremely useful for single target damage when upcasted on a wet target! Love the build guide, although I think the early game seems too clunky and the build would be smoother taking your fighter levels at 8 and 9 when you already have your 5 levels in sorcerer (for lightning bolt) and your 2 in tempest cleric. I played as Shadowheart on my first playthrough and used a similar build to this. It's blast!

      I took alert on my tempest Sorc. That plus chain lighting from the staff meant turn 1 would be quicken create water followed by twin chain lighting at max dmg. You win before the fight begins. With a bloodlust elixir you can follow up with another lighting bolt for the few times something isn't dead after chain lighting. I put alert on all my casters.

  • @serillen1904

    I know you mentioned it, but the spell slot usage really is a big drawback if you're running with a full party. Its great if you're doing a solo run since you need that burst, but in a full party I'd drop the fighter levels and spread the resource usage in each encounter around among my other party members a bit more making the whole setup a little less rest heavy. Not having the fighter levels will also give you a bit faster start getting to the good stuff like lightning bolt.

  • @furiosomalus
    @furiosomalus ปีที่แล้ว +8

    elemental adept: lightning feat makes your spells ignore target's resistance to lightning, so you can keep on zapping those suckers. Probably a good take on a build centred around one type of damage. Doesn't help against immune targets, but (as you say) those types of targets are usually immune to other things too.

    • @morpheus00
      @morpheus00 ปีที่แล้ว

      that's useless cause wet status overrides the resistances and makes enemy vulnerable

    • @furiosomalus
      @furiosomalus ปีที่แล้ว

      That's OK in the late game when you can upcast your rain spell to cover a huge area and make a lot of mobs wet, but early game, you might need the ability to override vulnerability in a pinch. Especially if you need the spell/action slot to do damage or mitigate, rather than make a mob wet.

    Love the build! I did mine as a sort of hybrid between your Cleric build and this. I did 2 Paladin, 2 Tempest Cleric and 8 Storm Sorcerer. Amulet for the extra Channel Divinity, Arcane Synergy Diadem, Dual Wieldier with a sword and staff. Y'all know the staffs, depending where you are in game with this. Phalar Aluvé with the shrieking song for Bane/++ Thunder. Breezed Tactician. :)
    Edit: Half-orc. Other gear I went for besides the typical were items that gave Reverb. The main hand Act 3 weapon I went for was the Legendary Trident. Markohenshir for the off-hand (lighning attunement).

    For this playstyle class I have settled with adding 1 level of wizard to learn conjure elemental from scroll. Upcasting that to level 6 getting you water myrmidon and its breath action has good AOE range which heals you and gives wet condition. Yes it will also heal enemies but considering they will die soon afterwards, I see no downside except giving that lv 6 spell slot. You can use arcane battery or that necklace to recover the slot

  • @munsamma

    Questions:
    If you are going to need respec anyway, why play this at all in Act 1 where it is awkward? Wouldn't it be better to use something more convenient at lower levels, like Tempest 1/sorcerer 5/ tempest 2 or tempest 4/wizard 1, so you get lightning bolt earlier? And then respec to this nova build at level 9 when it comes online.
    In tabletop dnd you usually have to plan your build so that it doesn't have dead levels before coming online, but with bg3 super cheap respec, you can just not play those dead levels with the same build.

    • @stevenwoodward5923

    I love the idea of getting action surge into this build. Never thought of that.. If spell slot is a problem, then might I suggest go storm sorcery instead and get call lightning. Reason being it's a freecast spell using concentration, so that we only need to pay for the initial spell cost, and can recast it for free after.. Spammable lvl 5 damage for the rest of the fight is pretty good considering how many actions we got.

    • @morpheus00
      @morpheus00 ปีที่แล้ว

      you want to use your sorcerer turn 1 with twinspell haste on yourself and another partymember, then take another action instantly for free and a bonus action, haste concentration is much more important than call lightning

    • @sololoquy3783
      @sololoquy3783 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@morpheus00 that's valid.. It's just that sorcerers have longresting problem and call lightning helps alleviate that. Also, if you want haste badly, just throw haste potion at the start of combat on the ground for AoE haste (throw using melee character). Then your sorc gets 3 call lightning action perturn, all at level 6. Use quickspell gloves for free call lightning quickening once a fight (call lightning recast counts as a cantrip, thus benefit from quickspell gloves). Twinhaste is still great for longer fights, just not necessary for regular battle that ends in 1-2 turns.

      I played wizard and i had a blast! The cool thing about wizard is the stupid amount of spells you can unlock. If you want to feel like Dr Strange or someone with a vast knowledge in arcana, wizard is for you. It has a spell for any situation. Its true that in terms of "raw" power it is a bit worse than sorcerer (and sorcerer main stat being CHA is a plus too) but as a wizard you will have tons of versatility, plus the divination or abjuration sub classes are super strong. Anyway, both are great options, if you like magic you are gonna have a blast with both of them!.
