Ya know. Aberrant Mind would be a very fitting addition, there's a flavor text option of how you got the powers by way of Mindflayers for the extra RP end of things, so the setting of BG 3 and that whole plotline just makes it even more fitting. That, and it is one of the cooler ones all around with granting a lot more spells to the pool for free and some of the extra features you can use sorcery points on to do in the world.
Great videos man. I just really started preparing myself for potentially what type of character/class I wanna play in this game, and am super new to d&d (only d&d experience was from the Dark Alliance ps2 games LOL so not much). This channel is helping immensely with learning and understanding the mechanics and what not. It's becoming difficult to choose it all seems so fun!
While in real table top D&D Draconic Renaissance does not stack with other things (like Unarmored Defense), in BG3, the wording & description of this class feature indicate that in BG3 it actually may stack. When you aren't wearing armour, your base Armour Class is 13 (notice how it does not mention DEX at all, in real D&D it is AC = 13 + DEX). Same thing for Unarmored Defense. When you aren't wearing armour, you add your Constitution Modifier to your Armour Class (again, no mention of DEX or base AC, in real D&D it is AC = 10 + DEX + CON). But in BG3 it seems to be not the case. All of those passives do not seem to replace AC formula with another one, but rather change ingredients. So, if base AC is: 10 + DEX, with Sorc you could have 13 + DEX and if you pick Barb, You can have AC = 13 + DEX + CON. Seems OP, but Larian was indicating heavily that they want us to multi class (they even removed minimum attribute requirements, so for Sorc you don't need 13 charisma to pick it for multi class). So I would not be surprised if it would work that way. And since the game has no PvP, then if something is OP in PvE, then why not ? XD
7:31 - I desperately hope they give Storm Sorcerer Call Lightning as a bonus spell at 5th level. They've been giving the other subclasses bonus spells, the biggest example is draconic bloodline, but who knows? I can't wait to see what they do with it!
Great. I'm having so much trouble picking my first playthrough, lol. I change my mind every 5 hours but currently, Blue Dragonborn, Pali / Storm Sorcerer
Do we know if the breath attack for dragonborn changes with the colour you choose? Like if you are blue will you create a wet effect as opposed to fire? I'm in the same boat as well. Dragonborn + paladin or sorcerer, or sorcadin. Can't decide lol
I want to play like 5 class and race combinations as soon as bg3 comes out. I have no patience lol. The pleasant agony of a wonderful variety of choices is something else.
There's something special about waiting for a game to release that you know you'll still be playing in 10 years. The last time I felt this way was Witcher 3, and Skyrum before that. And I genuinely think this is going to be just as good if not better than those.
Going to take a 2 level dip into the tempest domain cleric and go with a blue dragon ancestry sorcerer as a red dragonborn. Dmg reduction on two elements and a they will die button on channel divinity max dmg (especially on a crit)
Draconic Bloodline for me, though Wild magic is hilarious! In the future the only tweak I hope for ( which WotC overlooked spectacularily ) is adding Gem Dragon ancestries and their elements to the list: Amethyst ( Force ), Topaz ( Necrotic ), Emerald ( Psychic ), Crystal ( Radiant ) and Sapphire ( Thunder ). Of course adding the respective 5 Gem dragonborn sub races aswell. Larian does have the freedom to do such. I prefer they do it but modders mod be a backup solution. But that shouldnt be necessary
I'm dying to know the beast progressions of the beastmaster to level 12. I love what they did with the ranger this time around. Pigglywiggly will rule all!
I don't see myself playing Sorcerer right out of the gate, despite enjoying a good Draconic Bloodline Sorcerer. Games usually litter a lot of spell scrolls for Wizards to use, and I'd probably play a Necromancer first to test out how effective a Skeleton Army can be. But shenanigans like Twinned Haste or Twinned Polymorph definitely have wonderful uses.
Draconic sorcerer's also get a free spell depending on a dragons type, including spells normally unavailable to them, like armor of Aggathys. They also get cool cosmetic effect - dragon scales on their skin, plus if they are also of dragonborn race also get unique cosmetic effect for those scales too! Oh, and the scales also set your regular ac to 13, as if you always wear light armor or have mage armor cast at you at all times (doesn't stack with actual mage armor, or any armor, for that matter). With 16 in dex such sorcerer will have 16 ac out of the box on lvl 1 while naked, which puts our fighter Lae'zel to shame with her 15 ac half-plate.
I like that you don't have to play in a party.. you can actually go Solo or duo .. it's a choice how you party up... I've always preferred the lone wolf approach to games... Maybe one other from time to time.. such as an animal companion or a temporary character but never a full party
As much as I want to play bards, if Storm Sorcerers get something like Create Water, or Rain or something as a cantrip, that sounds like a lot of fun. It sounds a whole lot less fun if I have to use my limited spell casts on creating water.
@@stevenwoodward5923 having to spent extremely limited resources or hope for environmental effects to get online is the kind of not-fun that'll have me skipping this subclass, personally.
Sorc is my fav. I'm playing it with golden dragon sub and it's amazing. I'm not gonna multi-class because I don't want to lose spells levels, I think a pure Sorc is plenty broken already with metamagic and char based spells (There seen to be ALOT of char based content in the game, that you miss if you don't convince some specific NPC and the dice hates me)
Right now, I'm planning my first playthrough to be a gold draconic bloodline sorcerer half wood elf. I wanted a fire bloodline, I don't think the spell from red is very good compared to chromatic orb so I chose not to pick that. I wanted to be a good ish character so I thought gold would fit the rp better. I'm sure disguise self will come in handy at some point.
So far sorcerer is the class that I've made my strongest build for. A level cap of 12 sure makes different classes shine over others it feels like. For those interested, the build I'm talking about is a blaster sorcerer: lvl9 sorc, lvl2 fighter, lvl1 lock. Hex > Action surge > 5th level scorching ray x2 results in some pretty crazy nova damage from two times six rays each benefiting from hex: 36d6. And the nice thing is sustain damage on subsequent rounds is still better than many other sustain builds. If you go nova on turn 2, you can also quicken an eldritch blast for 3 beams + hex for even more damage. I'm still considering swapping out hex as concentration for haste, since from what I am told in BG3 it gives you another whole action that could then be used to cast a 3rd scorching ray, without hex the damage would still be 36d6, but the benefit should be that if you twin haste it can also boost another character. Though the downside would be that 3x scorching ray would be more costly on the spell slots. It's a shame hexblade's curse ain't in BG3, that'd be wild...
Wild Magic as first rundt of the story Will be awsome. Remember dropping cow's from the heavens to devestate your enemy? Or your group? ... Cant wait for the wild magic surge table!
I've got to wait until payday, but I'm looking forward to recreating one of my 5e characters in Baldur's Gate 3. Either my Half-Drow Draconic Sorcerer or my Human Monk. Probably the Sorcerer first though.
I feel like sorcerers needed additional origins. Not as a they deserve more sort of thing. I just view Sorcerers, especially in this edition, as so tied to their Sorcerous Origin that it's hard to imagine them with so few options. If it had to be limited though, I suppose the generic draconic origin is the way to go with several elemental options. That or the old 3.5 savants. Ill admit shadow not being an option was a surprise since Larian seems to like their darker themes. Aberrant mind wasn't even a remote possibility, but I'm quite biased toward psionics so I'll hope for a mod.
One complaint I have about 5e is that there are too many CHA casters. Bard, Warlock, and Sorcerer. Bard makes sense...But Warlock or Sorcerer don't have to use CHA. There's only one INT caster (well, two...If you count the Artificer). It also means if you want to min/max, you're going to make a "Sorlock." We houseruled a sort of Sorcerer that uses CON instead...Representing magic within them that they channel and control with physical conditioning. This allows for a sort of caster-tank that's been fun to play and have in the party. A Monk variant that uses CON is a good idea too, for obvious reasons. D&D doesn't use CON enough, IMO. All it does is give more HP, and help with concentration checks. There hasn't ever been a single class based on using it as its key ability score.
I can't decide what to play! My Pathfinder WoTR playthroigh was a Paladin. Im always partial to swinging a big stick. Thinking monk maybe this time? Dang this is hard haha. Can wait for the PS5 release.
Thanks for all the guides! Big fan of your videos. I haven't played BG3 yet and I was wondering what your thoughts were on BG3 vs Solasta? Both are based on 5e but do they seem to play similarly or is BG3 a different game all together? ( might be a good video idea ;) )Thanks and good work!
loved the video, but i just wanted to point out the irony that the thumbnail is canonically a forgotten realms warlock named Farideh. from the brimstone angels novel of books
Playing tabletop, my favorite build has been a storm sorcerer. It was a super fun hit and run glass cannon build where even at level 5 I was pretty much down after 2 hits against me. But the ability to use lightning ot thunder magic and then get some free movement without counter away from the enemy was epic! But the party Cleric was of the grave, so I kept asking for a heal and she was like "sorry, you aren't down yet. Once you are KOd let me know and I'll bring you back" and my character was like... But if I'm down then I can't ask for heals! To which she retorted "exactly, when you shut up I'll know you are in trouble" hahahahaha
Greetings and thank you for this series on classes. Your a are a great narrator with vast vocabulary and deep understanding of the DD world. I have a question about the "Wet" status effect and how it doubles the lightning damage on targets who are wet. Does this only apply to Lightning spells or all lightning damage? For example, would lightning based melee attacks do double damage? Or if a weapon that does only lightning damage, would that deal double damage to wet targets also? Cheers!🙂
Will you also do a quick overview on the races as well? Obviously don't need a video per race but a general recommendation and maybe a little race fantasy stuff.

Not a deal I would take, I don't have a need to take any sponsors at all and the ones I do take have to be video games.
Keep it up man - some of my favorite content on the game.
This is great! I'm so excited to play this game so these class overviews are super useful and informative.
Wonderful, cant wait for the rest of the classes!
Yes, colors correlate with breath attack and resistance to that type; fire, frost, acid, polson, or electric...
@@g8trdone damn that could be a really cool synergy with storm
Bros BG3 coverage is phenomenal, commenting for the algorithm
Thanks for these overview videos! This is really helpful for a non D&D person!
Yush :3 Another class overview ^__^
Perfect doctor office distraction, thanks!
I like ur coverage of BG3 more than some channels
I'm dying to know the beast progressions of the beastmaster to level 12. I love what they did with the ranger this time around. Pigglywiggly will rule all!
Thanks! Thinking about necromancy wizard but sorcerer looks cool!
Twinned Tasha's Hideous Laughter is also incredible, Twinned Melf's Acid Arrow, Twinned Ice Knife (if it's implemented), Twinned Hold Person, etc
Love these guides! Would love a cleric one next.
I like that you don't have to play in a party.. you can actually go Solo or duo .. it's a choice how you party up... I've always preferred the lone wolf approach to games... Maybe one other from time to time.. such as an animal companion or a temporary character but never a full party
That one has already been my most loved magic classes in every system having it. More easy to play that plain pure mage
You will be my guide for my stream of this game!
As much as I want to play bards, if Storm Sorcerers get something like Create Water, or Rain or something as a cantrip, that sounds like a lot of fun.
It sounds a whole lot less fun if I have to use my limited spell casts on creating water.
There are environmental effects in the game like water barrels I believe.
@@stevenwoodward5923 having to spent extremely limited resources or hope for environmental effects to get online is the kind of not-fun that'll have me skipping this subclass, personally.
Another great video. Thank you!
These videos are like TH-cam junk food for me, I can't stop watching these breakdowns of games I'm so impatient for.
Can't wait for the Paladin and Fighter videos!
Cant wait to see your sorlock build.
Sorc is on my short list for first play through. It's was this first class I really got into in Neverwinter Nights (my first DnD game).
The power of magic at the tip of your fingers and within your bloodline!
Awesome videos bro. Keep it up
I've got to wait until payday, but I'm looking forward to recreating one of my 5e characters in Baldur's Gate 3. Either my Half-Drow Draconic Sorcerer or my Human Monk. Probably the Sorcerer first though.
Ugh! I can’t decide what class I want to be! Too many choices and I love it
Been bouncing around for a few days on what character I'm going to make. Thinking 1 Fighter, 2 Warlock, 6 Bard, 3 Sorcerer.
Sorcerer is one of the first classes I want to play. I'm hoping I'll like this game enough for multiple playthroughs though.
Love your channel!
It also means if you want to min/max, you're going to make a "Sorlock."
We houseruled a sort of Sorcerer that uses CON instead...Representing magic within them that they channel and control with physical conditioning.
Never used a sorcerer or any kind of caster before and this game might just get me to do it
i hope in the future for the divine sorcerer
Thanks, I'm aware, good sorc art is hard to find, and 99% of people don't care
@MortismalGaming very true. it's also just great art! Sorry i only ment to point out a book series i adore.
Hi Mortym, will you be covering origin character and companion classes? Gz on 200k!!
Thanks! Origin characters will use the same classes as everyone else, and I've already covered the origin characters
I will play as a sorcerer.
Amazing video 👏
Love your stuff
Good overview!
I'm going bard on my first run, but now I'm thinking about the possibilities of a bard/sorc multiclass to double dip on that charisma!
Great, thanks!
I'm going to play a Green Dragon Sorcerer. Poison damage ftw
My most favorite class overall! ❤
good videos, watching & commenting despite playing (DMing) since 5th grade
Greetings and thank you for this series on classes. Your a are a great narrator with vast vocabulary and deep understanding of the DD world. I have a question about the "Wet" status effect and how it doubles the lightning damage on targets who are wet. Does this only apply to Lightning spells or all lightning damage? For example, would lightning based melee attacks do double damage? Or if a weapon that does only lightning damage, would that deal double damage to wet targets also? Cheers!🙂
It's all, but lightning damage is mostly from spells
When you dropped your monk vid, I was sure I wanted to play as a monk. Now you've dropped this vid, I'm sure I went to play as a sorceror 😂.
Can’t wait to start my wild magic sorcerer lol named Baradun in honor of VLDL and their hilarious campaign
Foresee, many hours of my life put into this game. Look forward to your videos of.
Will you also do a quick overview on the races as well? Obviously don't need a video per race but a general recommendation and maybe a little race fantasy stuff.
I want to check it out on launch and the probably yes, they've made too many changes for me too confidently present them in a video that isn't incredibly basic
