Mavic 3 has an edge for color, but with color grading you’re good. The night shots for the evo surprised me. But that geo restrictions on the magic is holding it back. The gimble replacements make the evo a winner. Thank you for this review
In the night zoom, Evo had less noise by quite a bit. I had a hard time telling because of YT compression. I believe EVO lets you fine tune your look in the drone too. I don't think you could go wrong with either if price was equal.
When I swapped over to the Evo 2 Pro 6k I was excited. I loved the lack of geofencing, large smart controller and the camera was nice. However that excitement slowly diminished when I started having issues. I first found out the obstacle avoidance system is super sensitive. So I almost exclusively flew with it off. Otherwise it wont let you get 10 to 15 feet away from anything. Secondly It does take some time to get used to flying it as it handles differently than DJI. After tweaking the settings I got it set up how I like it. Battery life isn't as good and they claim it to be. While we all know that what is advertised isn't what you will get...I was finding usually 25 to 30 minutes was the max I could get as anything more the batteries really don't like it and can damage really easily. Ive been flying for over 8 years and this drone takes the cake on having to replace the batteries the most. I still have Phantom 4 Pro batteries and Mavic Air 2 batteries still in great shape with over 200 flights each. After about 60 to 70 flights the Autel batteries start to lose a lot of voltage and begin swelling. One of the things that make my blood boil with it is during video shooting. Often time when I am wanting to get a level shot as I either am moving side to side the drone cannot stay level. It will either slightly ascend or descend and ruin the shot. I usually have to take this type of shot multiple times to get one that looks good and level. I have never had that issue...even with my first drone the Phantom 2 vision plus...lol. Its almost as though it is following the contour of the ground. Also the camera NEVER remains level, regardless of calibration before flights. It may start level, but after a few turns and a few minutes later it is no longer level. Off and on I have run into bugs in their software that have been at my expense (according to Autel). Once the drone no more than 30 feet away decides to return home which it perceived to be off the coast of Africa. Turned that direction and lifted up. Was still connected to the drone but it ignored every command I gave it until it crashed into a tree. After being on hold for 2.5 hours I finally spoke to someone about it and sent it in for investigation and repairs. They claimed it was my fault and charged me $300 with no explanation of why the drone did what it did. Another time I brought the drone down and landed it and it would not power down. It wanted to lurch straight up and I had to keep the stick down to keep it on the ground. It would not shut down, even after doing the manual force shutdown with both sticks inverted down. I literally had to hold the drone down with one hand and try to shut the battery off. It refused to do so and so I had to just eject the battery all the while the blades were spinning. After that I decided enough was enough. Poor customer service (not that DJI is any better), unreliable drone glitches, poor battery usage life and unreliable flight mechanics, camera is never level...so forth and so on. I hate to have to return to DJI, but time is money for me and Its sad that my mavic air 2 can get a shoot and a half done with one battery where the Evo 2 pro needs almost 2 batteries to finish one.
what a roller coaster reading your stories sir 🫡 me too about to get an autel evo nano back then but i read all the reviews and forums about its bad battery life and the most prominent gimbal horizon tilt, so i went back to dji, it just "works".
I've been a long time DJI user yet I've flown a few Autel drones. Both are great companies with the drones they release and hold merits in their own rights. I am still considering getting the Evo 6k or if not, the Evo Lite+ I'm sold by the geofencing. Yet whenever I get contracts to film professionally, I've always gone to my DJI drones and especially my recent acquisition of the DJI Mavic 3. Its great seeing videos like this where the presenter isn't completely biased to one side.
This review the EVO Definitely did a good job in night in regards to sharpness. However in every other category the M3 wins. Color saturation and sharpness was a blowout. The EVO is such a soft image. The EVO not having geofencing is a plus as well, unless you get fined. Range, which isn’t observed in this review, the M3 wins. Overall great review and if I had an EVO I’d want it to win this comparison as well but the truth is, it simply doesn’t IMO. I’m going to get the M3. It’s more expensive but I believe it to be the better drone. Day/twilight pictures it was an easy winner IMO. That said, the EVO is much older and held its own, particularly in night. Just don’t care for the softness of the image and the washed colors. Thanks for your review.
Well, I'm keeping my E2P, since there doesn't seem to be significant difference in video quality, and Autel has no geofencing, has HDR, and my orbits work well. Only glitch is AO calibration error message keeps flashing on the screen, and the OA calibration tool doesn't work on my iMac. I preordered the Nano plus because I was interested in the Mini 2, but my DJI Phantoms are bricked at my house despite LAANC for 200 feet.
Good work! Did notice some differences in time of day/lighting angles and flight paths in some of the side by side footage! But REALLY this is: CAMERA TEST - DJI Mavic 3 - 4/3" vs Autel/1", on weight/endurance/camera it seems to me the Mavic 3 wins Mavic 3 CLAIMS significantly higher forward sensing speed! (No contest on: 1) price! 2)Geofencing/'freedom to fly' and hard to argue that to OA/CA on Evo 2 is STILL superior, as it was not presented here!)
Given the 4/3 sensor you'd think the M3 would just crush the Evo 2 but its close enough that any difference can be adjusted in post for colors since that is always personal choice. The night video being about dead even is surprising. The 4/3 should crush the Evo in nighttime shots. Worries me the Evo 3 will be a similar ho hum upgrade in video quality. Why I think interchangeable lens drones like Evolve and Inspire are better options to get truly better-quality video. As camera guys know it's about the glass. Foldable's are nice for portability, but I think we are giving up glass quality. We aren't getting stacked sensors on drones like in camera's either. It's basically all old camera tech on drone cameras.
When comes to camera technology, bigger sensors means nothing if the lens they use are crap and the way the convert voltages to digital. That's why to put a HUGE label on the camera saying Hasselblad in witch has ZERO hardware on the Mavic. Just a color grade that you can do the same in post with any footage. Why do you think there are 1/2 million dollars lens out there? it is all about what your camera can see, how much it needs to see and how well it does see. Always by any cameras based on what lens the camera has or can use.
@@InteractiveDNA Thus my point of feeling like we are getting cheated on drone cameras. Pretty obvious the glass on a camera is better than the glass on a drone. Cheap glass on a camera is $800 and we can get an entire drone for that.
Excellent Comparison Video Of The Mavic 3 Versus The Autel Evo 2. When Autel Comes Out With The New Evo 3, or Whatever Name They Use, That Would Be A Great and Better Comparison, Mavic 3 Versus Evo 3. Thank You Jack and Chris!
The autel drone has obsticle avoidance while piloting the drone, the dji only avoids things while in auto pilot.. the autel is better, has better avoidance and is just better.
It is obvious, the EVO produces more detail. But for some it is too much truth, and they prefer the softer image of the M3, calling it more cine-like. I do prefer the EVO because for one, I do not shoot movies and second, I can render it soft in post if I chose to do so. But I can not reveal detail which hasn´t been there to begin with.
Hi, thanks for the comparison. However, comparing the Mavic 3 to the EVO 2 is like comparing apples to oranges. The EVO 2 doesn't have geofencing. The EVO 2 has excellent mission capability that is important for mapping and the EVO 2 V1 supports Live Deck that allows others miles away to view the FPV that is useful for search and rescue. While the video from the Mavic 3 looks better in your video I have seen other video comparisons where the EVO 2 shows better definition and contrast than the Mavic 3. Also those videos show less graininess in low light for the EVO 2 compared to the Mavic 3.
What's weird is that the Autel Nano+ has better video quality than the DJI Mini 2 with regard to sharpness, dynamic range, etc. but the Mavic 3 video looks much better than the EVO 2.
Illustrates perfectly the Ugly green stain that is the Mavic 3 lens flare, vs. The magnificent stained glass that Evo 2 Pro provides. So how does this affect the shots? Mavic 3 is a game of avoidance vs. Evo 2 Pro I often seek put the flair. It's quite prominent, so it doesn't belong in too many shots. But flying along in low sun angles, it usually appears and delights vs appearing and causing an audible groan, lol... FYI in Autel speak, "Evo 2" = 8K model. "Evo 2 Pro" = this "6K" camera and "Evo 2 Dual" is the 8K/Thermal combo. Another common name mangling is "Evo 2 Pro 6K" - that one is from the Redundancy Office of Redundancy.
Watching this on a larger screen and yeah, the E2P smokes the M3. I don't own both. Love the M3's flight time and the zoom feature though. I don't capture videos for a living. Pure hobbiest here
The m3 should be killing the evo at night but it does not lol, Your videos and many other show the evo sometimes is betterr at night with almost no noise unlike the m3 wow

Maybe the lens quality is a factor too. The Autel suffers more from flaring and contrast loss, making things look a bit insipid in backlit scenarios.
