- In today's step by step crochet tutorial I will show you how to crochet this easy crochet baby blanket with delicate border. This crochet baby blanket, shawl or afghan is perfect for for baby boys and girls and is made with easy crochet bean stitch pattern. To make this crochet baby blanket with crochet border I used 575g of Lion Brand Pound of Love yarn #4 with a 5.5mm hook. The finished size of my baby blanket is approx. 40in x 38in and the border measures about 2.5in. You can make your baby blanket smaller or bigger with any type of yarn and any hook size. The stitch multiple to this easy crochet bean stitch stitch pattern is 3+2.

Absolutely. Most of my baby sets are made with #3 yarn which is comparable to dk weight and can be made with cotton yarn, just make sure it’s the same size. I’ll try to incorporate more cotton this year too 😀😉

I am making this blanket for my soon to be grandchild. I have used the correct weight of yarn and correct crochet hook size but mine is looking like it is somewhat stretched out. I wanted a really soft yarn, and I used Bernat BabyVelvet. Did I do something wrong or will it get better once I start the border? I will need to wash it when it’s done (will it shrink?). I bought a Mesh bag to put it in for the wash and dry. Thank you for any help!
If you have the same stitch count and same number of rows then it could be your tension or the yarn is too heavy and drapes more.
