I'm an old newbie. I've been crocheting for 40 years but self taught. My mother taught me how to make a single row and that was it. I taught myself how to turn and begin a second row. I dont know the lingo AT ALL but I taught myself a pattern that confuses everyone 🤦‍♀️😄 but I get compliments all the time. I finally decided I should learn the right way. I bought a book, opened it, then closed it and said it should be written in a foreign language because I don’t understand it haha. TH-cam here i come! I learned 1 beautiful pattern but wanted to learn more. I wanted simple but pretty and elegant, I wanted it to be simple but look complex...... and BOOM here you are! This pattern along with your excellent teaching, is so easy!! I love it! Thank you so much! And the INVISIBLE KNOT😱😲🤯 MIND BLOWING MAGIC! THANK YOU!

Omg! That’s so funny cause I’m on the same boat you are in, my grandmother taught me how to crochet when I was young and in Spanish!! I love it, but can’t read a pattern if my life depended on it! And every book or magazine I buy just totally confuses me! But yes these videos on TH-cam are fabulous! Good luck to you! So glad to know I’m not alone!! 😉

We should start a club for older newbies 🤣🤣 I taught myself to knit and crochet over 40 years ago so when I found myself retired and lockdown arrived I enrolled in TH-cam university to learn how to do it properly much more interesting and entertaining than trying to understand a book that looked like it was written in a foreign language

Remember it’s easy to remove stitches, called frogging because you rip it. Getting the tension figured out is the hardest part.

@@susanvaughn8234, they have lovely things called "stitch markers". I'm 63, learned when I was 9, but am relearning due to a medical dizziness diagnosis and they have completely saved my life! There are a variety available but I rather like the colourful plastic ones that resemble a safety pin. Best of luck!

I am a self taught crocheter too. My mother in law showed me how to make a chain ages ago. I kept experimenting. I did make a few things but to be honest TH-cam did the magic. After retirement I am living with my son. To keep busy I started with crochet
In last 3 years I did many projects. Beanies cardigans shawls ponchos slippers socks baby cocoons baby bags bags doilies all thanks to TH-cam and the boredom after retirement. I also find it hard to follow written patterns. Today also I was looking what to make next. OMG I found your channel and this beautiful easy to make project . So well explained 👏 . I love it and sure this is my next project. Thanks.

I needed a quick pattern to make a small throw for a friend, and the Sugar Plum Fairy is perfect! It’s definitely a weekend project and so easy. I wanted to start the base row with HDC stitches all the way across instead of the pattern. To do that, only 101 sts are cast on instead of 102. When I finish the throw, I’ll crochet the last row with HDC sts all the way across, just like row 1. I’m using HL “I Love This Chunky” yarn in the Herb Garden variegated color, and you’re right - it’s SO soft! I used your invisible knot all through the project, too. That sure made things easier! Thanks for giving us such a fun, easy project!

My blanket is turning out really pretty so far. I decided to use a super chunky yarn that recommends a 10mm (UK) hook. It's working up fast. I've chosen a pale silver grey and the stitch definition is more obvious - I like it. I'm left handed, but have found this video really easy to follow because of the stitch repeat, the knot section was helpful too 😀

F'N THANK YOU! Most sites literally stitch so fast I think it is being fast forwarded! You feeling for your stitches made me feel like I'm not an idiot. I know intermediate crochet, but I love to learn new patterns, but I get so frustrated by some of the people who are trying to "teach" because it feels like it's more like they are showing off.

Thank you so much Brandy! That is my whole philosophy for my channel. To teach for understanding and success, not just to show it being done. 😊❤️🧶. So happy I could be helpful.

You may want to try the speed control on each video. It can be slowed way down. It's how I learn it.

You have made a great video here. Your instructions and the placement of the camera showing your technique are spot on. I used to crochet and knit many years ago. I’m now 72 and heard about the Pioneer Woman’s new bulky yarn, and this might be the perfect pattern for that yarn. I was always confused about the end of row and where the next stitch was for new row. You cleared that confusion up! Thank you for clear, concise video.
