As a mechanic of 25+ years I got a chuckle out of your interruption, interruption of your interruption comment, it happens every blasted day! And then having to retrace what you were doing and rechecking things so your interruption doesn’t cause you to skip something because your train of thought got de-railed... usually by the time you are back on track and moving forward you get interrupted again... great videos, TH-cam needs more people like you teaching that diagnostics are key to repairing a vehicle correctly the first time instead of firing the parts cannon at it and hoping it fixes it.

Good video. Stumbled on it. I have a 99 Chevy Express with the P0442 code. I went ahead and ordered a gas cap and purge valve(throwing parts at it) thinking if that didn't fix it I would just live with the light on the dash. After watching your video, if the parts don't fix it I may investigate a little further... Thanks!

You get a thumbs up for having a blue Mag-Light like mine...!! I'm working on my 1999 DODGE Ram van 1500...V-6 engine...same 2 trouble codes...I'm just using an Innova 5210....it does show the codes, and can erase the annoying 'check engine' light...but then you have to drive a while to reset the other codes...
I've been mechanic on stationary equipment for a while...so things are a bit different...but still troubles can be hard to find and fix...

From memory, I'm dont work on dodge much, but I think that generation would have a leak detection pump VERY similar to the VW one in this video. I don't know if dodge scan tool has a "test" like I did in this video though, but the system probably works identically. Other channels that deal with dodge more often like south main or pine hallow might be better but pump is explained very well by Bentley publishers Evap video here on youtube. Dont forget a purge valve that sticks open slightly can cause evap codes.

I have a 2010 VW New Beetle and I’m getting the code p0455 for a large EVAP leak. My gas cap light came on one day and then afterwards my check engine light ended up coming on. I replaced the gas cap with a VW gas cap and I still have the light. I got it tested by a VW specialist and they told me it was the leak detection pump. I have trust issues and I’m wondering what you may think.

the fix in this video was the fuel pump seal. changing the LDP and cannister wouldn't have fixed this car and would have been a waste of money. Point being you have to diagnose.
