I live in Japan. This was a beautiful homage to the artisan culture that thrives here! Also, the toilet puzzle around 4’30” has a twist (figuratively): it’s polite to make sure the slippers are arranged for the next person to use. That was a clever thing to build into the puzzle. It’s instructive and reinforces the culture of politeness. I love your channel, Chris. Be well 😊

For a few years now, as an editor of 20 years, I’ve appreciated how good an eye you have and how good your editing is. The views are discouraging, but one way or another, I know you’ll find your way somewhere, somehow. And we’ll always keep supporting.

YES CHRIS! this is exactly what I needed and I think what your channel needed. This video renewed my love for your channel, not that you lost it, but more that I forgot how much I loved it. Vlogging, puzzles, travel, terrific cinematography, editing, culture, you... Mate, thanks.

I am a lifelong fan of these Japanese puzzles and boxes. A few years ago, I was fortunate enough to travel to Japan and visited the Mt Fuji area with a tour group. I wanted to find a way to break away from the group so I could visit a puzzle box store in Hakone. Unfortunately, I was only able to view one of the stores as our tour bus passed it. Thank you for making this video, showing the store, craftsmen, and just what goes into making these puzzles. I finally made the visit through your video. Well done!

Had to chuckle when one of the artists called himself a beginner after working there for 7 years. Maybe it's true of other countries artisans as well, but to me it always seemed like a very Japanese mindset that I noticed while living there. Sushi chefs, woodworkers, Ikebana artists; the dedication they have to their craft is amazing. (Also thought the vid was beautifully shot, edited, translated, your questions were great, etc etc 😀Well done!)

This was so amazing to watch. From the humble creators to your childlike wonder and enthusiasm.. seeing pieces you've solved in the past (the coffee cup for eg) and the intricacy of so many more is awesome!
So glad you not only had a much deserved break but, that you spent it immersing yourself into a world that you hold dear and may have forgotten the beauty of for a time.
I hope this trip has renewed your love and passion and reminded you why you started the channel and that things worth investing in takes time, patience and passion.

Chris. I appreciate the workmanship of all Japanese craftsfolk. Thank you for bringing these folks to the fore. In our quick use it and toss it culture, we sometimes fail to appreciate the craftsmanship and elegance of design in products such as these. Thank you for always treating these puzzles with the reverence and respect that they so richly deserve and for sharing this journey with us. Blessings my friend.

Thank you so much for sharing this. I've always wanted to see the workshops and craftsmen that work for the Karakuri group and the Hakone mountains where many are made. I've never been to Japan, and I doubt I will ever be able to go, so I got to see it through your eyes. Thank you again for sharing your love of puzzles. I too am a collector, however my collection is much smaller than yours is. Seeing you work through puzzles is quite an inspiration.

@Chris Ramsey - Not only did I find your video extremely entertaining, it was a delight to share your insightful look into the world of an almost forgotten era of craftsmanship. Japan is renowned throughout its history for the masters who take as much pride in passing on their secrets, as they do making their wares. I do sincerely hope these uniquely skilled individuals continue to pass on their skills to others who're wiling to learn, before their secrets become another aspect of Japanese history lost forever to modernisation and mass production. Keep up the great content Chris.
