  • Hello Everybody,
For this month, a lot of people who loved my previous videos have asked me to show them the skills of the great master artisans (very few people alive) and even older but they’re still trying day-by-day to pass on traditional values to the next generations.
    #japanesewoodworking #ancienttechnical #HakoneMarquetry
To thank and honor them, we decided to create a series of video shows about them and their work from the footage available from my friends and myself.
Everything has been redone. I have edited the script, rewrote the content, new effects work, new music, new footage added and a new creation is created as follows: "Amazing Ancient Technology of the Beautiful Japanese Hakone Marquetry - Woodworking Skillful"
Today, this video will probably be more appealing because of the appearance of master Yosegi marquetry Craftsman: Tanegi Zukuri
    And Master Tsuya: www.hamamatsuya.co.jp
► Purchase Japanese HAKONE Marquetries on amazon:

This technique blown me away. I have never seen anything like this in my life. It is amazing not just for the myriad of patterns but also how much work it takes to make this. Huge respect and appreciation to the men who keep traditions a life.

There is a video of a japanese silversmith creating teapots by hand. The consistency of the hammer beats is almost melodic.

my mothers mother brought 3 of these boxes back from japan after the war in about 48, they have secret slides that have to be moved in sequence so you can reach the centre of the boxes ,the work is mind boggling in its perfection of construction unfortunately over the last 70 years two have been lost ,the last one is on my wall unit in a pride of place with a little note inside when it was last opened .

The craftsmanship is mesmerizing to watch. It's so well filmed, that it feels like you're sitting in the studio with the masters... the music was well chosen too. Thank you to the masters, artists, film maker and anyone else involved.
In this fast paced, mechanical, digital & disposable era, it is wonderful to see traditions carried on !!! Bravo

Went to a Artists shop there in 2014.
I knew Family members and Friends would love this as a gift.
I went through shop showing I wanted “this and that “ buying about 15 pieces.
After finishing I went outside to join my Husband and Japanese guide.
Our guide was flabbergasted saying he had never seen anyone do that.
I told him it was too bad he wasn’t going on the rest of the trip with us 😉

Agreed. I've been a woodworker for just about 3 years now. My tools are always sharp. Razor sharp. I can't stand having dull tools.
You can easily just grab the knife from my handplane or one of my chisels and start shaving with them.
but i've not once managed to get my planer blade so flat and so sharp that i could take some consistent endgrain shavings like he does here.
I don't know what I could improve. Is it my blade? Plane body? Wood?
      Truely amazing.

It's actually face or edge grain. When he is cutting the pieces off the board initially, the face of the board is facing him, so he ends up w/ a "stick" that is face and end grain along its length, and edge grain on the short ends. The patterns become edge or face grain, with the end grain on the non-pattern edges of the glued up patterns. That is even tougher to plane and get a consistent shaving with no tearout.
