I actually love the Live action remakes. I think they are so good and I hope Disney doesn’t stop making them. Here are my favorites - 1. Beauty and the Beast 2017 2. Aladdin 2019 3. Mulan was awful but worse because of the communist actress (she posted a post on Twitter that mocked the Hong Kong protestors and said "You can attack me now. What a shame for Hong Kong". and filming near concentration camps (most of the movie was shot in Australia, there was no reason to even film like two scenes there!!!!) I am a black woman and I find raceswapping lazy, not inherently bad, but in Western media they just do "raceswap this character from a European story" instead of like, changing the whole setting. People liked Princess and the Frog. People liked the cartoon Happily Ever After Fairytales for Every Child. It wasn't just "German character painted black" or "This French character is now Asian". Anyway, I liked the Little Mermaid remake. I think they actually did the raceswap well. They changed the actual setting to the Caribbean, but also it feels like they were doing the Brandy Cinderella thing with Ariel's dad and sisters all being different races. I think Cruella is great. A lot of people hate it. A lot of people think it was too girlbossy or it was trying to redeem Cruella. It wasn't. Cruella DOES become mean. She won't kill puppies in this universe, but that doesn't mean she's gonna be nice. And I also am biased because I love 101 Dalmatians, believe it or not, always had a thing for Jasper, and I love the use of 60s and 70s music.
12:14 I personally LOVE THE Aladdin remake!! The casting was pretty good. I was also scared about Will Smith being the genie but he did pretty good. I love how who they picked for Aladdin and princess Jasmin too! but I understand why you didn't like it as much. Love ur videos btw! 21:05 I dont hate the Mulan movie it wasnt great but it wasnt terrible either my sisters liked it tho
I have already watched the live-action Maleficent and Jungle book. Loved both. Jungle Book was already so close to my heart because of who the writer of the original book was. I also loved Maleficent because its ending showed the power of familial love rather than romantic love. I think Disney was on their familial love arc because even in Frozen, Anna was saved by her sister rather than any love interest.
I would be interested in a live action Princess and The Frog in hopes that maybe Tiana will get more human time in this version. The fact that she is the only black princess and was a frog the whole damn movie was kind of insulting 🙄
I wonder what would happen if we remade The Princess and the Frog, but cast Tiana as a white person? Would people have a problem with that then? I think if you can't watch a live action of a Disney movie that originally had a white character that has a white person as that character, you need therapy.
Tianas race was important and iconic for her character which is why it would be an issue. The same way snow whites skin is important for her character which is why what theyre doing is an issue. Ariels complexion was never important so it didnt matter the complexion in the live action. THE PROBLEM was they made her hair ginger instead of red which is iconic for Ariel.
I may be biased cause it came out on my birthday and it's my favorite Disney film EVER! But I LOVE the Beauty and the Beast live action. Emma Watson is one of my favorite actresses and I also love Emma Thompson as Mrs Potts. U can disagree with me if u want but u can't change my mind lol 😂
I KNOW! It's one of my favorite movies of all time. I put it above all those other movies! Like the aesthetic and feel of the movie is so amazing! And omg I love the songs! Especially Evermore! I am literally shocked so many people hate it..
I love these ranking videos, you're doing such an amazing job! I don't have much to say as I haven't watched any live action remake of the classics because of the same reason I haven't played Mass Effect Andromeda but now I'll surely watch the ones you placed on the first two tier on your list :) Thank you so much
I am SO happy you put Alice and wonderland in movie magic. I watched a long time ago when I was little, and I freaking love it TO THIS DAY!😂❤ Also; I love your channel sm!!!❤❤
I honestly haven't seen any of them except Cinderella and Little Mermaid. I'm not a fan of remaking a cartoon into a live action. They should have left them all alone. I think Mufasa is about to be a flop also. Looking through the ticket sales on the first day of the showing, there was some theaters that had less than 10 people watching it. Sonic on the other hand has been selling out.
I remember seeing Cinderella in theaters with my mom & we loved it. Definitely my favorite of the live actions. I do really love Aladdin & Beauty & the beast, Alice in wonderland, & the little mermaid no Matter if it was good or not it was just fun to watch. The Lion king, Pinocchio, Mulan, & Peter pan can DIE IN A FIRE😊💖
I have Cruella, Maleficent, Mulan, and Aladin. Cruella is a masterpiece and is honestly an amazing movie with a few misses her and there. Maleficent is a bit different but it still hits hard. I love the different version of Mulan but I feel like it’s a different story. I just imagine that it’s a different movie without the label of “Mulan”. Aladin is sooo good tho but I agree about Will Smith and the women independence. Sometimes it’s just not necessary.
Yesss on the s rankings!!!! I love the Alice in wonderland movie my fave live action from Disney and I don’t get the hate. It’s original, it’s interesting and the actors did a really good job especially Johnny depp. And out of the other live action’s Cinderella is definitely the best one and both Richard Madden and Lily James are perfectly casted. Kate blanchett was also a nice touch as the stepmother. My least favourite from the movies I’ve seen is definitely Mulan… I hated everything they did from giving her superpowers and zero personality, removing Shang from the movie, making a forgettable and not at all intimidating villain, and taking out every single fun aspect of the movie for a boring and soulless story… Overall it’s just a very bad film
FYI Disney makes live action movies because the contract of that movie is starting to expire so they (Disney) needs to make a similar movie but not the exact story 😊
I'd put the live action Cinderella, Alladin, and Christopher Robin as my top three remake favorites. I really did enjoy Alladin personally, but it can't ever top Cinderella! Come on! It's the best, regardless of what people have to say about the trope! Done well, the trope is the most beautiful thing to behold!
There’s a new Mufasa that came out on the 20th and literally it’s the third lion King they’ve ever made because they have the cartoon lion King live action, lion, King and Mufasa. It’s so crazy.
For the Huntchback I think they should do something similar to what they did to Yennefer in the Witcher show. They cast a real actress for it and created a Huntchback
I think Beauty and the Beast should at least be “It was fun” or “Movie Magic”. While I didn’t love the live action Aladdin, I thought Will Smith as the Genie was fine. He was cool in his own way, which is what you want if you plan on doing a live action adaptation.
I know there are a lot of complaints about the Jungle Book, Aladdin, The Lion King etc but for me they would still be at the top of the pack solely because even if the live action variant didnt meet expectations the plotlines in these stories are so good that they are still highly enjoyable to watch based on the plot of the films themselves.
In Pinocchio he did turn into a real boy but it was very subtle . Also Aladdin felt like a Bollywood movie and I feel it’s an insult when that’s the only middle eastern representation that Disney had given us and they couldn’t even cast a middle eastern as Princess Jasmine . Movie needed lots of work.
I adored 101 Dalmations, Alice in Wonderland, Maleficent, Cinderella, and I actually like the Beauty and the Beast despite the criticism of the dress. the movie added to the story, added two scenes/songs that I think really added to the original in an enjoyable way. I was also pleased with Gaston and Lefou's casting/performance--- it was super entertaining! My biggest disappointments was definitely the Mulan adaptation. I was pretty upset about it, lol. So DON'T feel bad for firing the person who made it, cuz honestly same here. I didn't like Aladdin, it felt very cash grab, and it didn't add much to the original. it took away from the original in Aladdin's character if anything--- I will say, I do love the Speechless momment Naomi Novik had in the film. The Cruella movie was pretty good, I enjoyed it. I felt uncertain about it at first, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. I never seen the live action of The Little Mermaid, for no other reason then I just haven't gotten to it yet.
I like when Disney takes a movie like they did with sleeping beauty and like you said expand on it. Also when they instead of saying that the movies gonna be a live action remake I think they should make it more like it was inspired. like how there are a bunch of Cinderella story’s and stuff. Idkkk
Cinderella is the only S tier live actions and I am gladden and happy that Cinderella happened first so it wasn't destroyed by some agendas. it was a wonderful adaptation and at first when it came out I did love it but I never saw it as the best until the others came out and realized how underrated it was and genuinely how well done it was. the others don't compare, only maybe select few exception. With beauty and the beast, its kinda dumb to have the idea that Bell's dress design should be modern (more yellow that gold is a disappointment) when the people around her are dressed as historically inspired dressed, she looks out of place. I agree that some disney movies should have been left alone, Aladdin was part of that. Lion King sucks because they decided to make it realistic to animals for it to be true to live action but the problem is they are so expressionless that I can't feel their emotion. like Aslan from Narnia did a better Lion than Lion king did. it did great probably because people attached their nostalgia and love to the original to the Live Action. Little Mermaid needs some work and race swapping is getting annoying. I got over Little mermaid issues but Snow White should have Black hair, white skin and red lip (lip stick) its specific with the feature and what she is known for that Disney not following this is a big mistake along with many others
In my opinion Aladdin is better than the lion king and beauty and the beast because it wasn’t a carbon copy of the original which is why it is higher on my list.
Live action Disney remake movies are so annoying to me. The only one I like is Malificent because they at least tried something unique. It did NOT need a sequel tho.
4:39 I always thought Alice in wonderland was loved bc I always wanted to watch it but didn’t have Disney plus or anything yet AND the OG Alice in wonderland is my favorite anyway
you showed beauty and the beast when talking about the budget of cinderella which i guessed was your favorite. i feel like maleficent is the perfect example of how a live action remake should be made so i would personally put it in movie magic. i would personally love a princess and the frog live action remake
I guessed Cinderella correctly! CINDERELLA AND MALEFICENT ARE AMAZING! Cinderella's dress was even my prom dress! I loved Alice In Wonderland as a kid, then I rewatched it this year and thought... "That's it?" Still love the Tim Burton aesthetic though. I honestly liked Beauty and the Beast, especially adding in Belle's mom's backstory. The dress was NOWHERE near Cinderella's though. I liked Christopher Robin, it was bittersweet. Hate the gloomy England setting though. The Lion King was meh, BE PREPARED SUCKED SO BAD😭. MULAN WAS AWFUL. Why did they even make it in the first place? No one enjoyed it. My brother and I surprisingly liked Cruella. I liked that it was set in the 70s, and the use of songs from that era which I love. CRUELLA WAS SOOO CUNTY. It worked as a stand alone movie, they really shouldn't have tied it back to the original character of Cruella herself. They should've just made the movie about an entirely original character, because the story was enjoyable! Minus the overdone "oh but they killed her mother!" trope lol. Pinocchio was boring. INSANE THAT THEY CHANGED THE ENDING Because of Disney's bad streak, I had low expectations for The Little Mermaid. It was okay. I liked the Carribean setting. But I still highly prefer the animated version. The actress has a wonderful voice though. I still have a problem with the Stitch casting. Because if I recall correctly, Nani's actress is white Filipino? Look, there are plenty of DARKER SKINNED Filipino Hawaiians or even native Hawaiians that actually look the part. As a Filipino, it pisses me off that it's always WHITE Filipinos who get casted more often, whether in American movies or Filipino movies.
From what I've read the Robin Hood remake was supposed to be CGI/live action hybrid but it was announced in April 2020 with no updates since so I have no clue what will happen with it or if it was quietly cancelled by now. Perhaps it is for the best if it's cancelled though as a fan of the 1973 film if the CGI for Honest John the fox in the Pinocchio remake is any indication as to how it would turn out and this is coming from someone who loves foxes. Also my theory is that they cancelled the remake in favor of putting Robin Hood in the upcoming Snow White remake
Oh yes! I LOVE the live action Cinderella. In fact I actually like it a bit more than the OG(I still love the OG). I just love how it developed their love story! And I loved the step mother's portrayal. It was just so cozy. And when my family watched the live action Mulan, as soon as they revealed that Mulan was a baddie from birth basically, I stopped watching or caring. Literally the whole point of the movie is that she was training to be strong and courageous. I hate when they "empower" women by making them strong and perfect from the get go. It just makes them bland.
I can tell im old because when you brought up live action Jungle Book I assumed you meant the 1994 one. I completely forgot there was another one too. There may be other live action disney remakes even older than that too.
I loved this video and yes, Alice in Wonderland is one of my favourites. There are a few you missed: 102 Dalmations!, 2003's Peter Pan with Jeremy Sumpter. Hook! with Robin Williams as adult Peter Pan. Alice in Wonderland: Through the Looking Glass. Also, don't forget How To Train Your Dragon is now live action too. Oh, and also Mufasa getting his own orgin movie. I love Mufasa, he was my favourite character in the Lion King, I'm just not sure how I feel about getting his origin story. I hope they at least do it justice. There are a few I didn't even bother with. I just hope they keep Zachary Levi away from the Live Action Tangled movie, because he's now been cancelled.
8 minutes into the video - you (by mistake, I assume) used the Beauty And The Beast box office numbers for Cinderella (it grossed around $500.000.000 worldwide) AND the ratings (Cinderella is 84% on RT). Cinderella, imho, is by far the best of the bunch. It has become one of my favourites and I watch it every year around Christmas.
There are FAR too many Yes men/women, and activists over at Disney. Who only taking original stories and putting their twisted spin on it, rather than creating anything original themselves.
I think they needed a lot of work to do with the little mermaid live action bc they did Halle Bailey dirty she looks stunning and has the best voice for Ariel like I watched it for that reason but they didn't care to give her a more otherworldly look and voluminous hair and the biggest crime some good costume designs like it piss me off see how bad the CGI looks and how bad they did Ariel's wardrobe she definitely deserved better For tangled I'm nervous that they would change a lot of plot points for girl bossy reasons bc Rapunzel is my fav Disney princess and I think the humor in her animation don't fit right with a live action remake Aladdin and the beauty and the beast both felt robotic to the original's which is sad bc both movies have insane potential's that were wasted Their older works were better bc they didn't feel generic they feel somewhat good the best of them is Cinderella it has great CGI and great costume designs unlike other movies that came after and the movie was far more interesting and fun 😊
great video & I always thought Cool Runnings was Disney's greatest movie of all time, but I also thought Disney's biggest mistake was hiring so many racist animators to make Pocahontas
I think Cinderella was a solid remake. Beauty and the Beast fairly ok. Just let down by the casting. I mean I loved the direction the music went blending new and old. Reusing demo unused lyrics from the original film and throwing in new songs. Even the score was a blend of both, just not executed all that well. But I liked the effort put into it nonetheless. Aladdin kinda decent. Maleficent was great. It’s just seems as the years went by they just stopped putting the effort in and became lazy and the quality declined. Now the remakes have never been flawless but it just seemed the first ones had more effort put into them than the later ones when they began pumping them out like crazy. I will say Lady and the Tramp does a great job in reinventing the story while keeping the magic intact. Even The Little Mermaid has its moments just needed to be condensed as it dragged on too much. But then there is the Lion King and how they changed very little and just changed the animation style. Peter Pan and Pinnocho were just awful. So was Mulan. But then there’s Cruellla which is fun and entertaining but also is very questionable because I can’t see that version of her becoming a puppy killer well an attempted one that is. Jungle Book at least took more from the book. Which made it stand out as not just being a copy and paste. One Hundred and One Dalmatians is awesome and Glen Close is just perfect as Cruella the evil version. Oh Alice in Wonderland again a solid movie because it isn’t technically a remake more a sequel because it continues the story we already know. Same applies to Dumbo while mediocre for the most part is a remake and sequel in one as it continues the story pas where the og ended. So yeah overall hit and miss but there are some definite bangers here and there. Now Future remakes Lilo and stitch I’m cautiously optimistic because it has potential since the og film puts us us right in the middle of the drama after the car crash that killed Nani and Lilos parents. So exploring their backstory could have potential. Then the Hunchback of Notre Dame has potential if Disney had the balls to bring the stage version onto the big screen including the dark ending. It could make for a solid musical film. As for the rest I’m not sure yet but surprised Frozen hasn’t been done yet since it was so big when it first was released and it’s popularity has only grown since then.
In my opinion the vast majority of these movies are forgettable at best and awful at worst (or in the case of Mulan culturally insensitive - watch Xiran Jay Zhao's video on everything they got wrong). The only ones that I actually enjoy and have rewatched are Maleficent and Cinderella (btw Cinderella is just...chef's kiss 👌). I loved 101 Dalmatians as a kid but I recently rewatched it and I think I only liked it bc of Glenn Close. Og Cruella is such a cartoonishly evil villain absolutely irredeemable, so why wouldn't her live action version just ham it up to the max? 😂 I'm a millennial so like I get a lot of people saying I just have nostalgia goggles on but no even taking them off these movies just ain't it. Disney please stop doing this I'm BEGGING
Also I'll die on this hill but Lion King 2019 is not live action it's still all animated just in a "realistic style" A realistic painting isn't called a photo

I also loved Maleficent because its ending showed the power of familial love rather than romantic love. I think Disney was on their familial love arc because even in Frozen, Anna was saved by her sister rather than any love interest.
Cruella was an amazing movie🤬
It doesn't need more work 😤😤
She put it in this was fun
I would be interested in a live action Princess and The Frog in hopes that maybe Tiana will get more human time in this version. The fact that she is the only black princess and was a frog the whole damn movie was kind of insulting 🙄
Hi Marina..❤ I Came upon your channel accidently and now I am a big fan.. keep up the good work..🥰
Thank you so much!
This why I never listen to rotten tomatoes and actually look at the google reviews to see if a movie is good or not. Love the vid btw 👍
You..could put Aladdin in needs some woork😅
I LOVED ALADDIN!!!!
BROTHER WHY ALLADIN SO LOW??? putting Christopher robin and jungle book above it is criminal. It’s at least deserve to be one tier higher
Love your videos ❤
I may be biased cause it came out on my birthday and it's my favorite Disney film EVER! But I LOVE the Beauty and the Beast live action. Emma Watson is one of my favorite actresses and I also love Emma Thompson as Mrs Potts. U can disagree with me if u want but u can't change my mind lol 😂
I KNOW! It's one of my favorite movies of all time. I put it above all those other movies! Like the aesthetic and feel of the movie is so amazing! And omg I love the songs! Especially Evermore! I am literally shocked so many people hate it..
@ yessss Evermore is SO good!!!!
I love these ranking videos, you're doing such an amazing job!
I don't have much to say as I haven't watched any live action remake of the classics because of the same reason I haven't played Mass Effect Andromeda but now I'll surely watch the ones you placed on the first two tier on your list :)
Thank you so much
I knew it was Cinderella ! It is kinda known that it is a well recieved live action, it is definitely the favourite one for most people
I am SO happy you put Alice and wonderland in movie magic. I watched a long time ago when I was little, and I freaking love it TO THIS DAY!😂❤
Also; I love your channel sm!!!❤❤
Aladdin was so good..?.!.?.?.!.?
I just now realized that I never actually watched the entire animated 101 Dalmatians movie, I just grew up with the live action one😂
I loved Christopher Robin and it was so deep for me.
Love, not have lol
Fun fun: did you know that the blue fairy is played by Cynthia Ervo was the same girl who was Elphaba in Wicked
I only noticed that when making this video! i was shocked
When you said you didn’t know the story of the sword and the stone my heart shattered 😭
The movies:alice in wonderland,maleficent,beauty and the beast,alladin
ARE ICONIC MOVIES!
22:42 I LOVED CRUELLA! I think they might be coming out with a sequel too…
I agree I was so upset when she was hating on it lol
For the Huntchback I think they should do something similar to what they did to Yennefer in the Witcher show. They cast a real actress for it and created a Huntchback
12:12 I really liked the Aladdin film. Bvh
Maleficent mistress of evil, dumbo, beauty and the beast and mufasa the lion king are my favourite live action Disney films
Only Cinderella is kind of good. But I have concerns with the names for Cinderella’s stepsisters. Supposed to be Anastasia and Drizella.
Beauty and the Beast and Cinderella were actually good live action remakes.
The live action 101 donations scared me as a kid and still does
Live action Disney remake movies are so annoying to me. The only one I like is Malificent because they at least tried something unique. It did NOT need a sequel tho.
I agree the animated versions are 100% BETTER.
4:39 I always thought Alice in wonderland was loved bc I always wanted to watch it but didn’t have Disney plus or anything yet AND the OG Alice in wonderland is my favorite anyway
same i LOVED it
NOOOOOOOO NOT ALADDIN, the Aladdin was so amazing it deserves higher
you showed beauty and the beast when talking about the budget of cinderella which i guessed was your favorite. i feel like maleficent is the perfect example of how a live action remake should be made so i would personally put it in movie magic. i would personally love a princess and the frog live action remake
yassss christopher robin is still one of my comfort movie to this day, it’s so underrated.
INSANE THAT THEY CHANGED THE ENDING
Because of Disney's bad streak, I had low expectations for The Little Mermaid.
It’s been weirder and weirder since 2010s
The dumbo movie was truly one of my favorite movies, but i get the critics and hate. I love it though, maybe just for my nostalgia
I can tell im old because when you brought up live action Jungle Book I assumed you meant the 1994 one. I completely forgot there was another one too.
There may be other live action disney remakes even older than that too.
hahaha i feel you
Don’t forget the 1942 version with Sabu … don’t think Disney had anything to do with it, and there’s no CGI 🤪
Alice in Wonderland the remake is amazing I am going with you here the CGI might be a lot but it carries the story a lot
Alice in Wonderland def S tier movie magic so I def support U haha❤❤
THE 👏 DRESS 👏 IN 👏 CINDERELLA 👏 THO 👏-
stunning!
Wondering if “Pete’s Dragon” should be on your list … the dragon is animated in the first version, but CGI in the remake 🤔
You put Mulan in the wrong tier and also showed the wrong ratings fro Cinderella. Otherwise, this was a great video and I did subscribe!
Maleficent is like my favorite movie
i need to rewatch it asap!
Anyone here remember the "MAY ZOZI" meme for Cruella 😭
There are FAR too many Yes men/women, and activists over at Disney. Who only taking original stories and putting their twisted spin on it, rather than creating anything original themselves.
Omggg!!! I love the live action Alice in Wonderland!! One of my favs!!
yes sameeee
I think they needed a lot of work to do with the little mermaid live action bc they did Halle Bailey dirty she looks stunning and has the best voice for Ariel like I watched it for that reason but they didn't care to give her a more otherworldly look and voluminous hair and the biggest crime some good costume designs like it piss me off see how bad the CGI looks and how bad they did Ariel's wardrobe she definitely deserved better
For tangled I'm nervous that they would change a lot of plot points for girl bossy reasons bc Rapunzel is my fav Disney princess and I think the humor in her animation don't fit right with a live action remake
Aladdin and the beauty and the beast both felt robotic to the original's which is sad bc both movies have insane potential's that were wasted
Their older works were better bc they didn't feel generic they feel somewhat good the best of them is Cinderella it has great CGI and great costume designs unlike other movies that came after and the movie was far more interesting and fun 😊
I love the live-action Alice in Wonderland movies!
great video & I always thought Cool Runnings was Disney's greatest movie of all time, but I also thought Disney's biggest mistake was hiring so many racist animators to make Pocahontas
HEYYY ❤
hi!!
Now Future remakes
Lilo and stitch I’m cautiously optimistic because it has potential since the og film puts us us right in the middle of the drama after the car crash that killed Nani and Lilos parents.
New Lion Guard Live Action coming out. Yay… ahhhhhhhhhhh!
Also I'll die on this hill but Lion King 2019 is not live action it's still all animated just in a "realistic style"
A realistic painting isn't called a photo
