5:32 the reason the songs in Moana two weren’t as high-quality is because instead of using the original songwriter, they used songwriters that they found on TikTok, and even though they were very talented, they didn’t have as much experience so the songs didn’t really sound as good ☹️
simple answer: when a musical song writer writes a song, it's deeply entangled with the story, hence it moves the plot forward and gives insights on the charcater's motivation/dynamics. The song ususally follows a journey of its own, with a clear beginning (ex: stating what troubles the charcater), a transformative middle (ex: something happens that convinces the character to take action), and an ending that shifts the situation from where it started (ex: taking the leap and crossing the reef). None of the songs from wish and moana 2 abide to these rules, and it really shows theyve been written by songwriters who have never worked in musicals before
Ex: Moana. Where You Are is the inner conflict between Moana's desires to explore and her duty to her people. How Far I'll Go is her decision to explore, as her determination boils over. We Know The Way's similarities to Moana's own songs represents how her desire is the same as her ancestors', and her perception of them. How Far I'll Go's reprise is Moana's rekindled desire to explore. You're Welcome is Maui's whole act, and sets up his character (and how he contrasts with Moana). Shiny is contrasting Maui and Tamatoa, both confident and arrogant powers, but one antagonistic and the other a deuteragonist that learns to humble himself more from it. I Am Moana is Moana symbolically claiming her birthright of navigation and sailing by linking We Know the Way's sound to Moana's again, showing her identity. Know Who You Are extends this theme by her using her newfound confidence in her identity to help Te Fiti.
This is so true and its so baffling just how Disney could fumble such a basic set of rules that they themselves have established for decades. Guess that’s what DEI does to a company
He isn't the only guy who can create good music though, but Moana 2's songs felt very different from the first film because of his absence, and it made the movie feel quite different from the first one and perhaps not as deeply epic (I don't think that if the songs were simply different, it would make the entire rest of the movie a lot better too though.)
They’re not treating their movies like musical theater anymore. They need to re study and return to the principles that guarantee at least an enjoyable if not anything innovative/groundbreaking. Their characters have poor blocking, no motive behind the song, weak stories, and bloated runtimes. All of these issues are usually pretty well handled in a stage show. I think 3D animation has created a quicker way to make movies that can be edited easily at any point in the process, but hand animated took years to design, animate, color, and edit. The time given to the other aspects of 2d animations let the writers and musicians time to solidify their purpose and cut out the bad/extra stuff
The problem is that their Disney parks are making more money nowadays, so Disney doesn’t care about their films now and are spending on their Disney parks and Disney hotels instead of their films. They don’t care about their films anymore. Live action Snow White is a HUGE example of this.

Moana 2’s Lyrics are kind of forgettable but most songs in the movie were or drew a lot of inspiration from Polynesian music. So to me (I’m a Polynesian) I find the songs easier to dance and choreograph too which draws me closer to my culture as compared to the first movie which followed the pop route mostly rather than mixing 2 music genres. Normally Polynesian music is kind of repetitive and then goes into something different for example a drum solo for a certain dance move and that I think is why the songs are repetitive as they follow the basis of traditional music in Polynesia. I definitely think they should have tried to mix the 2 genres better where it’s still culturally easy to dance too and catchy but overall that’s my perspective on the songs in Moana 2 as a Polynesian 🤷♀️

I'm glad you enjoyed the movie's music, but like you said I think they could have blended it better. Really my problem is with the lyrics, they feel flat to me.
@@BeyondDrawings I 100% agree. And don’t worry, you didn’t insult Polynesian music or culture in anyway unlike people on TikTok. Yeah. I definitely noticed the quality drop on the songs when I went to watch it in the theaters. Also, the fact that they put all this hype on this one character only to never show him. I was really pissed off about that. I mean, at least show the character that’s supposed to be the big bad, y’know? Like I get that there’s that one big storm part at the end. But that’s all we get, seriously? There is so many things that could’ve been better about this movie. Too bad Disney doesn’t give a crap though. I honestly prefer the first movie over the second, which I’m sure can be said for a lot of people as well. I haven’t gone to see Mufasa yet, but from what I’ve heard so far, I’m not really interested in seeing it anymore. Besides, I have Disney+ so I can just watch it on that if I really want to. One thing I noticed about Disney songs is that all of the “bangers” build the plot, matter of fact, it’s one of the biggest plot builders that they use. If Disney forgets that the music will flop 100% of the time. It’s not only the song. It’s the time and place of the song
For 2 months or 3 "We don't talk about bruno" from encanto was ranked the 2nd best song in america.Idk y but i watched it, and on a scale of 1 to 10 i would rate it a 6.Also moana 2 came out and my brother made me see it, and i was really sad i watched that cuz it was....disapointing.The songs were BLAH and moana 1 was WAY better
Now I know this will probably never ever ever ever happen but in my perfect world people will just ignore Disney until they don’t have money and will be forced to do better
I didn't watch Frozen until 3 years after it came out (I wasn't attracted to 3D + I was stubborn) yet I gave in; it was ok. After they started pumping live action remakes, I felt maybe it's time to let Disney go. I liked Moana but all I remember are the songs couldn't tell ya anything about what happens because it wasn't rewatchable like a lot of movies past 2012.

Well umm surely zootopia 2 will be disappointing and I heard that Shakira will have another song yea let’s hope she won’t disappoint us which most likely will
They need to stop having Lin manual Miranda write everything. He’s good, don’t get me wrong, but now almost all newer Disney songs sound the same… they all sound like they were written by the same person.. we need variety. 🤷♂️
At least it seems like they’re gonna do a sequel to “Moana” rather than a live-action remake (this time around, at least, although knowing Disney they may still do a live-action remake as well). Must’ve changed their minds. 🤦🏾♀️ 🇵🇫?
I dunno. I know that Wish and Moana 2 as movies aren't quite as quality as their previous films, and that their songs (in Wish's case) aren't as good as other's or don't quite fit the movie as well (the latter in Moana 2's case) but I can't at all side with either of those movie's songs being forgettable, as they do get stuck in my head often. Things are probably going down over at Disney though, something that didn't used to happen.
For hero songs, look at Mulan. We build emotional connections with Mulan because of the song Reflection, the film directly transitions from her struggling with her family to voicing those concerns. She then gains layers as a character by using a fun metaphor of a mirror to represent her emotions. And then of course, I'll Make A Man Out Of You combines a training sequence with a song, which allows it to use more creative visuals. In terms of writing, its funny because it exaggerates the Spongebob Squidward dynamic (silly and serious person), allowing for banter and funny scenarios. In terms of music writing, its one of Disney's best orchestral accompaniments, so if you wanna write songs like that you better learn music, but essentially, it has some of the best bass lines (BE A MAAANN) that I can think of in a disney songs. For villain songs, look at Hunchback of Notre Dame. Its completely unafraid to be dark, demented, have harsh, bright red colors fill the screen. The writing of the songs delves deep into the psyche of the characters, they don't just restate things that are obvious. Modern Disney is lowkey too afraid to make their villains scary, so imo, don't do that.
I’m not going to lie I watched and Moana 2 and the only thing i remember is the song get lost like no scenes no nothing just the song and that is even snip bits of it because it’s so repetitive
because the one who actually "can make the show" in the "team" leave "Disney" alread, if you check "puss in boots : the last wish" staffs... who make it.. it is all original Ex Disney who can actually do the job. (Tangled, Frozen, Raya, CoCo, Encanto) .. Disney now is just a left over person in the team that can not do qulity animetion anymore.
I like cheehoo and get lost but only in my language which is polish because our Maui who is voiced by Igor Kwiatkowski has so much more character in his voice and i love it get lost is also good not my favourite but it's good in Polish ver
To sum it up moana 2 is a sequel obviously but with way more songs that are kinda repetitive and basic and the typical disney storyline, at least its not boring. 😢😢😢

I just sung I’ll go beyond and then I forgot the rest it was ok
Edit: I don’t know why, but I feel like my grammar’s bad and I don’t know how to fix it. So if it is, I’m sorry.
Him: Sing a song from Moana 2.
Me: Just 1? Ah..... OK
GET LOST CUT LOOSE AND LOSE YOUR WAY THERE AIN'T NO FUN IN HOLDING BACK BABÉ YOU GOTTA ENJOY THE THRILL OF LIVING DANGEROUSLY YOU'VE GOT A LONG LONG WAY TO GO KEEP PLAYING SAFE YOU'LL NEVER KNOW THE RULES ARE OURS TO BREAK...
Want another one? I can keep on going.
Get lost is one of the best songs in the movie, but everything else? I don’t even know the other song’s RHYTHMS
@@tinaruff8473 One of the bests means it's not the best, and yet you say everything else is forgettable? I think you meant to say Get Lost is THE best and the others are forgettable. And I disagree with that too. I like Can I Get a Chee-Hoo too.
WHO ARE YOU WHO ARE YOU WHO ARE YOU GONNA BE YOU'RE GONNA YOU'RE GONNA A-MAKE SOME HISTORY COME ON-A MOANA GO GET YOUR DESTINY CAN I GET A CAN I GET A CAN I GET A CHEE-HOO.
@@tinaruff8473 You probably don’t like this one but CAN I GET A CHEE HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Me too! Beyond, Can I get a Cheehoo?, Get Lost, What could be better than this? We're back etc.
@Naldillo11 WHO ARE YOU WHO ARE YOU WHO ARE YOU GONNA BE YOU'RE GONNA YOU'RE GONNA A-MAKE SOME HISTORY COME ON-A MOANA GO GET YOUR DESTINY CAN I GET A CAN I GET A CAN I GET A CHEE-HOO!!!!!!
Bro my favorite song ever is your welcome from moana i can literally sing it word by word
fr the quality has gone down 7:41
One thing I noticed about Disney songs is that all of the “bangers” build the plot, matter of fact, it’s one of the biggest plot builders that they use. If Disney forgets that the music will flop 100% of the time. It’s not only the song. It’s the time and place of the song
I thought "Encanto Uno" was more than enough. Bruno should have given some viewers nightmares.
For 2 months or 3 "We don't talk about bruno" from encanto was ranked the 2nd best song in america.Idk y but i watched it, and on a scale of 1 to 10 i would rate it a 6.Also moana 2 came out and my brother made me see it, and i was really sad i watched that cuz it was....disapointing.The songs were BLAH and moana 1 was WAY better
in 2035 their company is DOOMED.Ya know maybe not even 2035, like in 2029 i bet not a lot of people r gonna be watching it at all
omg you are so underrated. I watched this thinking it would have 15k+ views and likes, whattt.
I appreciate that comment 🙏🙏
AHHRHHHRH I just watched moana and i was shocked abt the songs, like I MISS HOW FAR ILL GO 🥹😭😭😭😭😭😭
Thats so real i kept thinking “man i this doesnt hit as much as how far i’ll go/youre welcome” 😭
@soapyywater FRR
I’m still waiting for some epic new theme songs like;
“Tulou Tagaloa” from Moana
“Vuelie” from Frozen
laufey mentioned? 2:37
YEAHH
in my opinion “can I get a chee-hoo” from moana 2 was actually pretty good, it was catchy as hell and it’s been stuck in my head for a few days
moana 2 songs were kinda a bop. like, who let dwayne go SO HARD with 'Chee-Hoo'😵💫🔥
Now I know this will probably never ever ever ever happen but in my perfect world people will just ignore Disney until they don’t have money and will be forced to do better
With Strange World, Wish, and Mufasa flopping, we were close. They're gunna bounce back with live action remakes, but we were close
Good
I know right. It's crazy how so many people are anti-disney but every movie they release is still a theatre hit. Like what do the people want, truly
I personally loved Moana 2 😭🙏🏼
THANK YOU
Samee 😁
its not just the songs, the stories themselves are terrible, Moana 2 is basically just the first movie but with different characters
I actually find the only Moana 2 song I've listened to memorable.
EDIT: I just watched it. The only song I didn't like was the first one.
I agree with you whole heartedly period u are NOT wrong
I didn't watch Frozen until 3 years after it came out (I wasn't attracted to 3D + I was stubborn) yet I gave in; it was ok. After they started pumping live action remakes, I felt maybe it's time to let Disney go. I liked Moana but all I remember are the songs couldn't tell ya anything about what happens because it wasn't rewatchable like a lot of movies past 2012.
“CheeHoo” is a Samoan expression, basically the equivalent to “Yeehaw”
Yea this video is literally perfect 😭
We need Lin Manuel Miranda back
Everyone was hating but now look what we got
@@dxitydevil Yeah, I listen to his music all the time, he’s literally a musical genius. Me and my sister were so disappointed he wasn’t able to make the songs in moana 2
@@Kylee1246 Exactly. Like even if you don't like Hamilton (which is the main reason ppl dislike him anyway), you have to admit his lyrical scheme is unforgettable and catchy af. He knows what he's doing ! Wish Disney did
@ Right?? I mean people barely knew anything about the American revolution until the Broadway cast recording came out. And history or historic things really interest me. Huge respect to him ✊🏼
@@Kylee1246 REAL. He's done so much for the music world (and history!) jaja. He's truly over-hated I genuinely don't get why
Honestly the only song from Moana 2 I can rlly remember which is my fave in the movie is get lost. I honestly rlly liked that song
And the chee hoo song was a bit cringy but also kind of good imo. (Moana 2 was great imo)
I remember thinking this same thing while watching the movie.
nah cause me and my sister watched moana in theatre and when that song about going beyond finished, we both turned to eachother and whispered IN UNISCENT: sounds like into the unknown from frozen.
Beyond is kinda a banger but I still can’t remember the lyrics
Mufasa was the best movie ive seen in awhile, all the songs are amazinggggg (NOT FORGETTABLE!! I have been singing to the songs from the movie for so long) and i LOVE ITTTTTTT and idk why people hate it its like one of my favorite movies
The only song I loved was Get Lost.
I liked that one rap in that one song
No like for real... Even if people hate Mufasa: "I always wanted a brother" or even "Bye bye" still both the songs got more hype and are more memorable than anything that came in Wish and Moana 2 altogether 😅😅😅😅
7:37 If Hamilton doesn’t write it, it’s not good.
(Lin Manuel-Maranda)
I think that all the moans 2 songs were sooo good!
I know "Get Lost" is a song, but I remember THE SINGERS VOICE, no lyrics or anything.
ive got a feeling that the “I always wanted a brother” will be around for a while 😭
At least it seems like they’re gonna do a sequel to “Moana” rather than a live-action remake (this time around, at least, although knowing Disney they may still do a live-action remake as well). Must’ve changed their minds. 🤦🏾♀️ 🇵🇫?
What about the songs from the direct to dvd sequels ?
3:40 i did manage to tho, literally 3 songs.
Heard the mufasa soundtrack and there was only one song that i even liked. Most are forgetable.
I actually know the names of the songs in 3:43 : Beyond, Can I get a Cheehoo? Get Lost/ Can could be better than this? - LOL!
Man listen ppl have different opinions to if they like the song or not
Moana 2 is a good movie!
Sing all the songs like I listen to all the songs before I even watch the movie
3:42 Hey, i was about to sing this song from... What´s her name?.. Matangi! Yeah, totally not googled it
Wish has one good song, and I listen to it out of context.
Do you have tips on how to write songs? I want to write a film and add sings to it but I can’t write songs lol
@ I want to make a lgbtq story with disney like songs, but idk how
@@d4red3v1l8 that sounds awesome, follow those dreams 🙌
@@BeyondDrawings Ty, I have 0 idea on how to make songs so it’s gonna be hard 💀
@@BeyondDrawings btw happy new year!
3:47 I just started to sing the melody of « Beyond »
I’m not going to lie I watched and Moana 2 and the only thing i remember is the song get lost like no scenes no nothing just the song and that is even snip bits of it because it’s so repetitive
Same :(
Lesson learnt: the first movie is ALWAYS the better one
I honestly would watch Monsters Inc elementary tho
mufasa songs were so goooood man ahhh bye bye and my brother i love them
because the one who actually "can make the show" in the "team" leave "Disney" alread, if you check "puss in boots : the last wish" staffs... who make it.. it is all original Ex Disney who can actually do the job.
Disney is going downhill in my opinion in the last couple of years 😢
Me, who didn’t even know strange world existed (probaly because people don’t like it): 👁️👄👁️
THE MUFASA SONGS WERE SO BAD BRO I CRINGED 😭😭😭
The only memorable thing about Moana 2 was that it’s the first movie me and my girlfriend saw together in theaters. Aside from that, meh.
To sum it up moana 2 is a sequel obviously but with way more songs that are kinda repetitive and basic and the typical disney storyline, at least its not boring. 😢😢😢
Literally the only thing I remember from moana 2’s songs is two words
GET LOST!
Disney will peak money over A GOOD MOVIE!!!!!
AHAAHA MUFASA !!!!!!!!!!!!! IS NOT GOOD
0:53 Lin-Manual Miranda 💀
I like the songs in Moana 2 more than Moana 1 🥲
But like... Beyond, In to the Unknown, They are like THE SAME.
Is that Laufey in the background??
No. It's meowfy.
