They're coming in a little hot to land on the station. Maybe they use the ejection switch together with wonky solar physics to vector the shi.. Oh. This isn't "Station%" 😂
This uses a semi-recently discovered technique called “Mousewalking” where the player binds walking to mouse movement. The game glitches and makes you go way faster, which is how he’s able to get up to the ship without the full geyser skip setup
It's really cool that the game says you are dead because you haven't looked at the statue yet. Why do the other runs get the statue memory sequence though is it to check a box that unlocks something in the world?
I'm pretty sure it's because of 22 minute thing. It takes a long time to go throught the entire village tutorial, it would be mean to just randomly kill the player cuz they took too long to finish tutorial, so the devs changed it, so until the statue is activated, no game events happen, so Sun doesn't explode, Hollow's Lantern doesn't launch lava that destroys Brittle Hollow's surface and most importantly, the sand flow between Hourglass Twins doesn't start, making some stuff impossible without activating the statue, including actually beating the game, since you need the sand flow to access ATP. It might be theoretically possible to beat the game without the statue, I heard someone say that if you fly at very high speed into a planet, you might be able to clip through walls and stuff, but that would probably require TAS level precision to hit the exact spot and would be way way slower. This speedrun however is possible without ever looking at the statue.
If I understand correctly, the geyser is always active at this point, but it's been impossible to get there with proper launch alignment consistently before it stops (without using TAS-only strategies), so runners have had to wait for the next cycle.
The true outer wilds experience
this video comprises the entirety of my outer wilds knowledge
huh. i beat the game myself but never knew the sun could kill you. weird.

_Cyndi Lauper voice:_ "When I get up"
I misread the title and was like "Okay I gotta see this, aaaand he's dead"

Oh, dang. That's huge.
Me still trying to land on the sun station:
Wait holy shit this is literally like a 30 second time save?? How often are you getting this consistent?

oh wow, new take off without the alignment jumps :)
So wait you're going to be shaving off 30 seconds in every category now? Holy shit
Pretty much
Can't wait for the -30 second death% run lol
oh man, thats scary lol. how consistently can you get the first cycle geyser skip
HOW

I found that out myself on my first playthrough, I always immediately check if environmental fire hurts you and if it can kill you in games
Think you could knock off time by ejecting?
BRUH
The geyser usually doesn't activate this early, how are you getting it to do that?

nice
Oh shit a new skip
