Thanks for watching my TAS! I saw your reaction, and wanted to clarify some things. I will probably make a video about it. The main thing that the tool is doing is recording my positions and speed in the game then play them back. Then, on top of that I've added the possibility to create and load savestates, slow down the game, see some specific values, etc... So it can indeed not really be 100% legit and I suspect it's not. There's still one issue with the savestates, when loading the hands, they have a different speed than when I saved them. So there is some small abnormal speed variation. But apart from that, overall this is pretty close to what is currently possible with the game.
@@chuckpalahniuk2174 This TAS shows there are still a lot of optimizations left, so leave it to Clark to implement these. Although it is possible some inputs are too frame perfect to be humanly possible. But still, never say never, right?
Imagine spending days climbing mount Everest and finally climbing to the top, and when you look down you see the human spider just boosting his way up the mountain at top speed.
I once read a book about everest climbing and some guy was going up there with a whole crew, exhausted, etc. At some point on their way up, Reinhold Messner was just zooming past them 😂
It's always cool seeing how TAS lines differ from WR lines, the way they take all these high-risk routes to save time. In this case, I feel like the TAS is actually playing the game MORE as-intended in several areas compared to speed runners, like how it grabs the breifs on the clothesline at 1:03 and declines the concrete pillar "shortcut" at 1:30.
@@quannyglock It stands for "tool assisted speedrun". That's when people write a program to play the game for them, and they can fine-tune it so the timing is always perfect down to the millisecond.
@@Sonoooo4tool-assisted speedrun. I think it means they used some algorithm to make this possible..? Basically this isn’t fully a human doing it, meaning it doesn’t count as a world record
@@OGCalicant not an algorithm, usually they go frame by frame to put in the ideal inputs, showing us the theoretical fastest gameplay possible. Obviously no human will be able to keep up with a TAS in most games, though.
@@Rondobondohondo what do you mean? I don’t really get how “going frame by frame and putting in idea inputs” works… that’s why I assumed that was some code or something, a person does that?
The craziest thing about this is that it's not even fully optimized in a few places. A preposterously fast time, and it's not even as far as it can go. That is amazing to me.
Read the description of the video: "This is a Tool Assisted Speedrun (TAS). It was not played live." For people thinking that this is the new speedrun record, it is not. This is just an entertaining video.
It's cool to know that it is theoretically possible to get close to this speed as a real person. GOI came down to a lot of 5 minute runs and no one thought it could get much faster but now it's down to under 1 min. I'm sure it will be the same for this game.
I appreciate that you acknowledged the imperfections in the TAS, often when people publish a new TAS they're just like "welp this is it, unless new routing ideas are discovered this is the fastest it can be done" even when they're not micro-optimizing at all. Definitely saw a couple minor snags, and I'm not even sure you're "swimming" optimally (maybe you are and I'm terrible at processing it just because of how slow it is relative to the climbing), but it was definitely hilarious to see that this game played for-the-most-part optimally makes you look like a literal cockroach lmao
At the last swimming section, he clearly grabbed the starting rock later than he could have, the pool area looks like it could have been done faster, but overall it looks mostly clean to me. I doubt a sub-2 minute TAS is possible.
It's like watching a crab scurry on the beach, a spider run on the wall... a night paralysis demon scurry from under my bed. What grace, what dignity...
It looks like he floats from the rock to the lantern around 1:54. This is so cool. I don't know the first thing about TAS's, but Im sure this took some hard work. Nice job!!
I watched Jaboody boys suffer for a long, long time on this game, and jumps that took them many, many attempts to get perfect, as well as routes that you took not being possible in the actual, real-time game play, so you're correct, this version of a playthrough isn't possible in real life. Good to see what the end of the game is like, they got stuck on a super specific jump that your character took in less than a second haha
I am SPEECHLESS!
