6 years later and this vid still gets lots of comments. Glad to hear it's helped so many folks! If it helps you, I'd love to hear about it below. Also, SELF PLUG: I stream on Twitch a bunch! Come say hello! - twitch.tv/vertigoteaparty
Thank you. I havent had a new console since the 360 until I got a series x in November 2022. Ultimate Game Pass introduced me to Arkham Knight and I am hooked. This guide is helpful.
just started playing this , its a great game but i cannot get to grips with the combat ..keep losing my combos and getting destroyed lol ...im terrible at this game haha
Practice makes perfect. Pretty sure most ppl who are new to the arkham combat system start mashing as first, but you quickly realize it's a bad habit and adapt.
A single dodge will never drop your combo. If you do two dodges in a row, your combo will drop. The exception is when you actually dodge over people. You can do that indefinitely. Also, you can absolutely dodge over tacklers and that is actually the intended way to counter them. As they run towards you, hold the left stick towards them and hit the dodge command. The dodge animation is different and you roll over them. DO NOT try to dodge the big armored guys' attacks. In this game, they attack too fast. In most cases you must counter them.
Prowl76 You can dodge tacklers yes. What I was saying is that if they are too close, you cannot counter them with a batarang. If they are close by, dodging is best. If they are far, batarang is better as you can knock them out. Good to know about the dodge. Shouldn't be an issue during the challenge but could screw up your combo during normal gameplay. Those big guys do attack very fast. Pretty much need to hit counter the second you see the indicator.
Big armour guys are easy to dodge.they hit directly after you done countering an enemy and if you were closer to them because in subconscious mind you get chained dodge overhead from countering enemy
Thanks for this video man! I'm a Batman Arkham crack addict but have been struggling getting high combo/star counts. Appreciate it - hopefully this helps me.
+Chris Emerson One big thing to remember is that, until you feel more comfortable with counter hits, you can dodge forever (as long as you dodge over someone) and not lose your combo. It's really useful for dealing with nasty enemies and to give yourself a breather. Good luck!
7 years later and it still helping people. I just bought all 4 Arkham games so I could relive the thrill. However I quickly realized I never actually gave the combat the attention it deserved when I was younger. This helped immensely in catching me back up and making a few things easier to understand. Cheers mate!
I just wanna get 69 stars in AR, then do a new game + and finally a platinum and never ever wanna see the game again. Edit: Finally got a platinum few days ago!
I'm literally grinding these combat AR challenges out right now and my biggest problem is knives, stun sticks, and ninjas lol I want to have a save file with 120% and all ar challenges so I can have a NG+ save file
@@justarkzy these ninjas are a real pain in the ass. I spend alot of time with this game and I'm convinced that this dodging mechanic when holding y in the rhythm of the slices is nothing but a myth. I tried everything, nothing worked
God damn is the platinum hard seriously? This is my 1st game play and i have problems with batmobile battle while trying to protect ivy. I had to dumbdown the level to easy, get it over then changed back to Normal again. Will fully upgraded batmobile armor helps out in NG+? I know in NG+ the enemy warning hit has none. But what about the drone, will it still show the blue/red dotted line where the bullets be fired upon?
@@Willhoo85 NG+ does not hide the tank aiming indicators and yes, all your armor in NG+ will still be there. But out of curiosity, is it the aiming or the dodging you're struggling with?
The sound cue to chain combo hits you gave is actually fantastic. This helped me get the 50 hit challenge. I haven't used dodge so much but it has been helpful to get the 50 hits. I will rewatch the whole thing later to learn any more useful tricks about the same. Is there a point to be going for these long combos in the story line or should we just kill everything as soon as we see it?
had big probs with timing. Combo breaks at 25 or below. tryed 1 hour. Watched your vid. First try after that, cleared the Challenge with 57. Jump instead of Counter was the best hint. Thx !!!!!!
thank you so much for this video. I tried for like an hour before watching this video and I was constantly getting painfully close (like 48 or 49). The audio cues helped me the most. I got it like 15 mins after watching this video. Thanks.
Nice guide man. also I wanna point out a simple thing to carry on combo counter is always use disarm and break on weaponised enemy's so that they are open to get hit fromany direction they don't defend anymore.its essential to start destroy weapons when weaponised enemy starters to spawn because you get crowded quite easyly and it will be good mix with attacking and chaining attacks to far away enemy like snapping and flying. And with blade dodge take down you can one shot the knife brutes so yea. Also medic guys electrify enemy's to immune to be single hit, just use batclaw and smash on then cuz as soon as batclaw touches them the electricity wears off and they are open to get smash.
Just some friendly advice, get used to timing dodges perfectly. So in my strategy I instantly O to stun to beatdown, counter, pick up to beatdown, counter, repeat, repeat. Sometimes if you need a break I recommend the R2 + O electrical stun.
2020 here. Thank you ! I did my first run on normal and didn't take in the riddler or do these challenges. I'm doing hard now to get everything done before it ends.
Best advice ever, thank you very much! Instead of counter attack just dodge around and attack afterwards. Increased my combo from 14 to 60 after two attempts.
2:20 Actually this challenge was my first to attempt. And I have only trained 2 combat skills(in other words it's available early game). fyi I think it was unlocked by simply running off the roof into a dive at that location
2:04 Well I love it when enemies are surrounding me, wheres the fun in that if everyone is not trying to come at you at once? I love it in all fighting games when people come at me at once when fighting someone else, yes it can be harder for other people but it sharpens your skills plus I always games with music in my ears as well as being surrounded. I always rely on my other senses otherwise the game would be to easy. my highest score on the combat challenges 330850 and 300 hits on the dot and I don't just constantly press the button. I do it when I need to and I don't need the lights above there heads to tell when there gonna hit as when I first started playing the game I clocked it on hard mode first. if your into separating your enemies then in a way your afraid of getting hit, which I'm not and I always take that chance
I am new to this game and I was smashing the punch button. My best was just 17. I was frustrated and watched and then did the audio cue thing. First try 69 straight away 😅
Great tips. In particular I didn't know that dodging doesn't reset your combo. However, you neglected to mention how to deal with the "red" attacks that charge at you WITH SHIELDS. Batarangs won't work on shields, and I can't think of anything else other than dodging them and using the aerial stomp move.
If you take damage it ends. Also, I THINK if your combo is broken for any reason it stops. So if you punch someone one blocking, swing at the air, press dodge too many times, etc it ends.
What do you think about the easy combo when you stun an enemy or when you pull an enemy back up and you just smash the hit button ? Is it a good way to have a high combo?
Dark Souls helped break me of button mashing. When I played Arkham Asylum at release, I struggled to keep up my combos partially because I spammed attack. Dark Souls made me think more deliberately about what I'm doing. Other stuff I found just by experimenting. Using dodge to pause your combo timer I think I discovered while making this video. Glad the video was helpful!
What do you, or anyone else here reading this, recommend for the AR challenges that have lots of enemies with shields & electricity "armor" w/ shock sticks? Right now I'm trying to master the Penguin's Iceberg Lounge AR Challenge, and by the time you get to the third wave of enemy reinforcements you're essentially left with enemies you can't even touch until they're stunned dizzy with the stars rotating around their heads. It's an especially frustrating AR because you can't counter their charges, and whenever you do attempt to attack them you're either going to be blocked by their shields or shocked by their electrically charged body armor.
For those types of enemies I build up my combo and as soon as possible I use the special ability that breaks their item. If there isn't anyone you can hit to build your combo with you'll have to do whatever ability it is that will bypass their defenses. For shield guys I think it's either to stun them or to flip over them and attack from behind. For electric baton guys I think you have to shock or maybe freeze them.
I've never had a combo problem in any of the other batman games, but for some reason I am having a bit of trouble with this one. I'll try dodging instead of the counter. You also mentioned the batterang for the red lightning guys like in regular combat, but I find its always hitting someone other than the intended target in the AR match. I've also noticed in flow you have to aim towards each target to strike them which seems obvious but gets me into trouble when I haven't turned to the target quick enough. Maybe you can list what breaks the combo besides the obvious like getting hit. Also have you done the Robin AR challenge where you need 50,000 points for three stars I'm having trouble there too it came with the season pass and I don't know his moves yet. Quick batterang is still L2 n triangle but a weird shield comes out with L2 n circle. Maybe you can do videos with all the combat AR missions. Thanks
+Watcherz52 Off the top of my head, what breaks combos: - Getting hit - Countering when there was no one about to hit you - Hitting a shield or an electrically charged enemy - Hitting one of the big dudes when they are blocking - Dodging twice in a row WITHOUT flipping over someone. In other words, if you are doing the dodge/flip over enemies move, you can do it forever without losing combo. - Punching and not hitting anyone - Use a gadget but it hits no one If you are struggling for 3 stars, I'd say the #1 thing to focus on is making sure that you consistently are getting crits. IMO this should be your primary focus. If you can get crits every time they are available (they don't start until hit ~4 IIRC) you'll hit 50 in no time. Aside from that, if all you're focusing on is 3-starring this AR, don't worry about doing counters; just dodge-roll over enemies (sorry, forgot the official name for the move.) This way, there's no chance you lose the combo because you tried to counter when there wasn't anything happening. I don't think I have the Robin challenges. I have the PC version so we've got none of the DLC. =/
I know this is old but if your watching today use fear takedown for enemies with knifes or the ninjas and you can jump over charging/tackling eniemies it's simple really I can get 100 hit combos easy so try my tips combined with the ones you just learned.
Another thing is when one of the guys appears with the red lighting on the top of the head you cannot beat it or if you evade him automatically challenge stop. I’m so confused with this challenge. Any help.
I've been at it for four hours now. I average 13. The highest I got was 45. I've had a couple 33s. Half the time my combo ends and I have no fucking clue why.
Do you have some way to record yourself, like Nvidia Shadowplay? If you can watch the playback that can help. Also, are you pressing attack but not hitting anyone? Or pressing dodge when someone is NOT about to hit you? Both of those can throw off the combo.
Wilder Rua I use audio cues. Whenever I hear the punch connect, I do the next attack. There is actually a rhythm to it you can follow the tempo and consistently get crits. Make sure to not "mash". Press attack. Wait for the sound of fist on face. Press attack. Wait for the sound, Press attack, etc. Keep in mind that you cannot crit until about 3rd or 4th hit in a combo, IIRC. For enemies with daggers/swords (that cause the yellow "attack" bolts) I would suggest initially using dodge instead of countering. Normal counters don't work; you have to hold back and press counter right before each swing. Until you become more comfortable with combat, I highly suggest dodging instead. Electrified guys must either be pulled with the bat grapple or you can use an instant take down if your combo meter is high enough.
Am I the only one that can't get to 50 ? I get to maybe 20 and they just disappear. I don't get hit, I'm constantly hitting and countering attacks. It's making no sense to me
David Prentice Are you hitting someone with a shield? Or one of the big dudes? If they block your attack, you lose the combo. Are you on PC? XBO? PS4? If PC, record yourself with some free software (like OBS). Do the challenge a few times then watch the footage back. Should see if there is something hitting you, you dodging too often without leaping over someone, punching the air, etc.
I'm in the 30's I think right under 40 was my highest combo. The flow got into it. wait till u try Robins AR I think I got it from the season pass because it wasn't there until after I got the season pass and installed everything
Also I noticed at least I think I figured out why it's ending quickly/stopping early for you. I think that if you hit the counter button and it doesn't counter like calories an enemy but hitting the button twice or if you swing several times and miss one hit it resets it
Before that happens just chain dodge over the enemies that are there to give more a chance to spawn. As long as you dodge over someone (and don't get hit) your combo won't ever drop

+Watcherz52 Off the top of my head, what breaks combos:
- Getting hit
- Countering when there was no one about to hit you
- Hitting a shield or an electrically charged enemy
- Hitting one of the big dudes when they are blocking
- Dodging twice in a row WITHOUT flipping over someone. In other words, if you are doing the dodge/flip over enemies move, you can do it forever without losing combo.
- Punching and not hitting anyone
- Use a gadget but it hits no one
If you are struggling for 3 stars, I'd say the #1 thing to focus on is making sure that you consistently are getting crits. IMO this should be your primary focus. If you can get crits every time they are available (they don't start until hit ~4 IIRC) you'll hit 50 in no time.

Matthew Abban man I can't get past 10. 13 is a pipe dream to me.
The camera angle is bothering me terribly in this game. It keeps flip flopping between enemy it sometimes screw up my combo
uhhh. i found out that most of the time you can hold attack and it does a crit
Whats the best way to ensure you get Crits on every strike? How about villains with weapons

Just keep practicing! I used to be bad about mashing but over time I've gotten better about it by practicing and being conscious of it.
Once you get the 3 starts what you got? Or what is the next step? Where can I get critical strikes? How can I do that?
I know I am late but I need help doing a perfect attack since when I try to do it nothing happens to show
"critting"
I doubt the remote electric charge special combo was useful
I used to be top 50 in the leaderboard with a score of like 340, but have since been kicked to top 300 or so.

Bro everytime i hit one star my shit just ends it never lets me get to 2 stars why is that?
I'm struggling alot with the people that run towards you and have the red above there head instead of blue, what do I do with them?
i cant even maintain the free flow gauge even not hit. how come????
I think that if you hit the counter button and it doesn't counter like calories an enemy but hitting the button twice or if you swing several times and miss one hit it resets it
Story + is killing me
Thats funny as soon as you reach one star simulation complete wtf?
what are the red tokens for with two batmans looking at each other ?
What to do when the red sign enemy charging at you?
X-on ps4 (you flip over enemy)
Big thanks shout out to u
Only problem I have with this is when I get my combo in the 100s I start clearing the room before another enemy spawns so I can't hit anybody
Before that happens just chain dodge over the enemies that are there to give more a chance to spawn. As long as you dodge over someone (and don't get hit) your combo won't ever drop
Max combo of mine is 85 think its enough
How to get there since I have the game but can't do it
Every time I hit 10 combos it resets for no reason and the game ends is there any way I can fix that?
No idea why it'd just reset. Are you missing an attack?
Is there an upgrade to do x3 each strike?
Nicely explained man thanks! Now let's go do it!??
How do you get a critical hit?
Why are you playing as New 52
